(dramatic music) (drones buzzing) - Like, these two drones are about to all...oh god. (upbeat music) - Okay, friends. Today, we are gonna be testing the crash resistance of the new Mavic Air. What we're going to be doing today is crashing it against its father pom pom pom The Phantom 3 Professional! Who's gonna survive? The Phantom 3 versus the Mavic Air. I don't know. What do you think, David? What's gonna happen? - [David] The small one's gonna lose. That's just the way of the world. - True, true. So, there's a good chance the small one will lose, but this one here, this is some fancy new technology. This is like the Lamborghini of drones right here. I dunno, Lamborghini, is that a good comparison? - [David] Or like the Mini Cooper. - [Fin] The Mini Cooper! We got the big guy over here. This is our Phantom Menace. I mean his thing is massive. I've crashed this like multiple times. (drone engine whines) - [Man] That was not expected. - No one wants to crash their drone. - [David] That's gonna happen. - But it's gonna happen today. Today, some drones are gonna crash. I say we start off by getting this thing open and we'll go from there. (car shrieks) (edgy drum music) Oh, man, this is actually so nice. Look at this. That is actually gorgeous looking. Can we already compare? I mean we're doing the unboxing right now, but can we already come, like, holy, I am impressed already. Alright, boom, that's the DJI Mavic Air. We got three extra batteries. Got a little guard protector. We got a lot of charging cables, all that stuff. Just gonna throw all that back in the box. You get extra nibs for the controller, I believe. We have a beautiful carrying case. This is absolutely, look at the stitching on this! (sighs loudly) We don't have to destroy the carrying case, right? This is really making me feel even worse about destroying this. Like every thing I unbox makes me feel, at least we still have this. This is saved. The bag, I'm keeping this. This is my new pouch for everything, I'm putting everything. It's so nice! Alright, let's see if all this can compete with one of these. Let's see, alright. (hypnotic electronic music) - [David] Thumbnail! - Say goodbye to these guys. Let's go. (electronic dance music) - [Fin] They have breakfast! - [David] Dude, I'm actually so hungry. - [Fin] I know, this is perfect. - [David] Buenos dias. (electronic dance music) - I'd say this as good a spot as any. It's actually a pretty awesome spot. - Dramatic background. - Yeah, exactly, it's perfect. - Alright, let's set these guys up and crash some drones. - Let's do it. - Let's go! (drone humming) (bright electronic music) Alright, we got everything set up. I've got a drone here that is going to film the crash. I've got the giant. I've got the freaky Phantom Menace over here that's about to crash into our little Punisher Mavic Air. It takes a lot time to set up because of technical difficulties and actually syncing all the drones, and all that kinda stuff, but, we are all ready to rock now. That one, ready to crash into that one. And be filmed by this, and these two cameras. So, yeah, things all ready to rock. Let's see how this goes, let's do it! (drone engine hums) - Okay, aw, man! The, like, gravity of what we're doing is setting in. These two drones are about to all gone. (drone engine hums) - [Fin] Drone one, boom. Drone two. (intensifying music) Everything's recording. It's all in place. We've got the drones into the sights. We're going to shoot these both straightforward and see what happens, ready? (drone engines roar) - [Fin] Whoa, whoa. Okay, we're adjusting, we're adjusting. Let's go a little higher in this one. Try again, try again, take two, take two. - [David] Go. - [Fin] Okay, is that the right spot, you think? (orchestral music intensifies) (drone engines whine) - [Fin] Oh! Okay, I don't know how much I caught. Because that's one still there flying good, okay. - [David] Fin, Fin, look at this! - What, oh, my god. That's a piece of the, that's a piece of the Mavic! - [Fin] No, no! - [David] That's actually not, - [Fin] We did it, we did it, though! Holy, ripped the camera! - [David] No it didn't, it didn't! - [Fin] Oh no, oh no! - [David] Oh my! - [Fin] Wait, wait, no, no! - [David] Oh! - [Fin] No, wait, wait, wait! I think it's good! - [David] Oh dude it's good! I wanna see that in slow-motion. Let's watch this back! (intense orchestral music) - That's why that little part came flying apart. - You're right, it actually landed over where we were. The fact the Mavic actually stays up for a second is pretty good, and then, eventually, it careens off. And it can't keep its-- - Yeah. - Okay, okay, wait wait wait wait. This, I think, is user error. Because I went full throttle forward, right? Because I wanted them to crash into each other. But, I think, if you look at the footage, it balances itself out and then full throttles to the ground, because I'm still full throttling forward. - Oh, so you didn't let go! - I think if I had let go, it would've been fine. But I was like vroom, and then just like, - Which makes sense because, if it happened immediately. - Yeah, exactly. So, if I was actually being a good drone controller, and not trying to crash the two drones together-- - It might've survived. - But that's the crazy thing. It's still intact! - It looks decent, we can still crash this thing even more! We should try and see if we can get the Phantom running at all. So, the thing is we have no vision. But, technically, probably can still fly. - I wonder, can we connect it? - But I think we don't need this. Oh wait, no way! It's just unplugged! Okay, grab the camera. See if we can get this back together here. There we go, plug it in, number one. Okay, and then number two right here. I can't believe it, literally, like it feels like it was meant to come off so it didn't break. - [David] It's a feature, okay? - It's already working! - [David] Really? - Yeah, its already, look at that! - [David] Oh, that's the camera doing that, wow. - Yeah, look at that. Oh, my god, it's already working again. No way, dude. - [David] That's crazy. - [Fin] Did they both survive? Well that sounds bad. (engine clicks loudly) - That's not so good, but okay. The gimbal still works! We plugged the gill back in, look at this. - [David] No way! - [Fin] That's amazing, dude. - [David] Dude. - [Fin] Gimbal still works perfectly, that's amazing. - [David] That's crazy. The menace hanging by a thread! - [Fin] It's literally hanging on by a thread. Okay, you ready for round two? (drone engines roar) Take off. No way, dude. Alright. - [David] Is it staying balance and everything? - [Fin] It looks good, dude! Okay, it's recording, it's good to go, yes? Alright. - [David] Alright. - [Fin] Mavic Air survived. Warning, motor obstructed, uh oh. - [David] Uh oh. Uh oh! - Uh oh! - [David] It's not taking off. - It's not taking off, it's not working. What, okay, last time. Let's try, ready, here we go. - [David] Here we go. - Wait, wait, oh no way! - [David] It's taking off, it's taking off! - [Fin] No way, no way. - It's taking off. - [Fin] Okay, record, record. This is going to be sketchy, let's back out, let's back out. - [David] I'll just hide behind you. - [Fin] Three, two, one, go! (dramatic drums) (drone engines hum) (drone engine shrieks) - [David] Let's see what happened, I'll grab that one. - [Fin] Okay, so that time we actually flew them into each other, but we both were controlling them, because we couldn't get them to line up. - [David] Propeller's gone. - [Fin] No, wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait, this thing could still be good, dude. We have so many extra propellers, I feel like if we put on another one, it might still rock it. But, that means I think we better say R-I-P to our friend over here. Dude, the Phantom menace didn't do so great in these things. The gimbal's gone. I don't know where gimbal is. Oh, god, actually, it's not bad, dude. - [David] This propeller is half, it might still fly. - [Fin] (laughs) It's missing a little bit there. I mean, that's a little, that's a little rough. I mean, other than that though, it's missing the eye, we don't have a camera. Can we find the gimbal? - [David] Here it is! - [Fin] No way, hey! Survived! Dude, these are troopers. I'm actually impressed. Gimbal's still working, video's still recording. And, no way! (drone engine roars) (laughing) What just happened? (bright piano melody) - [David] You got to do a little dance. - My favorite part of flying drones. What if I'm putting the propeller on wrong. Yeah, it can't be that. Aha, look, black. That's been the issue the whole time. I knew it, I knew it! I think this thing, I think this thing is still in business, dude. Okay, here we go and recording. You ready? (drone engine roars) Hey, hey, no way, dude, we did it! - [David] I can't believe this! I can't believe my eyes! - [Fin] Look at this thing. It's perfect, it's beautiful! Look at this perfect balance, how? - Well, I mean, some of it's like, a little. - You know, it's not the best I've ever seen in my life, but like, yeah dude! - [David] (laughs) Drop test! (Fin whoops) - Okay, so, it's still alive now, but you didn't think we were going to end the video. Like David, we can't leave it like this. - [David] It's still alive, I mean. - It's still alive, yeah. The question is now, I guess, if it'll survive crashing into another drone, what else can it survive? Three, two, one. (drone engine sputters) Well. - [David] And that drone is lost. - (laughs) We got it stuck on the side of a mountain! (dramatic drums) (loud crash) (intensifying music) - [David] You can do it, Fin! Yes! - [Fin] Yes! - [David] Drone recovered! - And we recovered it. This drone has now, it's been through a lot, but it still looks like in decent condition. - [David] It looks great man. - I think it's still, I think it's still fine. (drone engines roar) - [David] Oh, snap! (drone engines whine) (dramatic drums) - [David] And the Phantom is done! The Phantom is done. - [Fin] Look at this, it is still flying! (dramatic orchestral music) - [David] That thing is a beast, dude! - It's still alive! Every time it just took this thing down. Not a scratch. And look at this, beautiful. Still a beautiful little drone, it's gorgeous. Well, I'd say that was very unexpected. I'm pretty impressed with these little guys, they're uh, - [David] Both of them actually did really, really good. But I'm really surprised by the Mavic Air. - They're both in really good condition, but this one, no matter what touched it, it was just out. Also, notice the gimbal fell off every time. We're literally holding it on with stickers right now. Gimbal doesn't seem to be working either. So, yeah. - [David] Rip bad. - Gimbal's all over the place. This one, it's still rocking dude! The cage of the actual drone itself, keeps it very protected. - [David] Dude, it keeps, just like I'm alive! - [Finn] It's like trying, it's so sad! - [David] It's like one of those insects that's dead but it keeps like kicking legs. - You know what, okay you know what I think we need to, I you know, think this, - [David] Finn, Finn, what are you doing? Finn, Finn. - Is it, is it time? Do we, do we? - [David] What are you doing Finn? No, stop it! Stop it, no, Finn! - I'm sorry, Air Mavic! - [David] Don't do it! - [Fin] I'm sorry! (loud crashing) (drone whines loudly) - [David] Uh oh. - It had to happen. It had to happen. Sorry! (dramatic piano music) (laughing) - [David] That's a battery right? - [Fin] (laughs) Yeah, I didn't think about that. That was actually a really bad idea. Okay, well, I think-- - [David] Remember to always remove the batteries before destroying your drone. - [Fin] Yeah, before destroying any technology, remember-- - Hashtag, don't try this at home. - [Fin] Don't try this at home, exactly. Look at this, this is literally melted plastic. Like, I don't want to touch it, but that's melted. It literally oozed and melted from the heat. - [David] TechKaboom, huh? - [Fin] (laughs) Yeah, boom, boom! - This is it, episode one of TechKaboom! Tune in every Monday for more. - I think what we learned today is that this does not, actually happen when you crash drones. From what we could tell, this is what happens when you crash drones. They stay pretty strong actually. - I feel like this is everyone's fear, like oh no! It's about to crash against this wall, it's going to explode it's going to kill everyone! Apparently, that doesn't happen. - No, they survive. - It's actually really hard to bring a drone down. - I would say three out of five of these tests, one of the drones was still flying. It's impressive, dude, it's very impressive. But, yeah, that's it for this guy. R-I-P the Phantom Menace, may he rest in pieces. Right there. - And long live the Punisher! - Long live the supreme! - Alright, well that was super fun. Thank you guys so much for watching. Thank you, friends, for joining us in this video, and we'll see you guys all next Monday for another video. New videos every Monday. - Videos every Monday, hit subscribe, hit the bell! We'll see you later. - And now let's go hike one of these mountains. - Yeah, let's go, let's do it. - Sweet. - Let's go. (upbeat electronic music)
