[Music] hello welcome to my youtube channel if you are new here we upload a new video every week we do it every friday my goal is to help you understand and speak english fluently today i want to give you a lot of traffic vocabulary you will know how to name different types of roads and streets you can pick up some useful traffic expressions that we use when we speak about cars roads and traffic types of roads [Music] highway a major public road that usually connects multiple cities undivided highway divided highway [Music] interstate a large typically federally funded network of roads that are part of a highway system it may go between states but it doesn't have to [Music] toll road a road that drivers must pay to use express lanes motorway highway lanes separated from general use lanes that offer a new and faster commute option for highway drivers interchange a junction of highways on different levels that permits traffic to move from one to another without crossing traffic streams turnpike a part of a highway it is usually a whole road off ramp a short road that is used to gradually slow down after leaving a highway types of streets [Music] one-way street streets where traffic moves in a single direction alley a narrow street between buildings avenue [Music] a wide and long street with tall buildings on both sides in a town or in a city boulevard a wide street in a city often with trees grass or flowers on each side crescent a street in the form of a crescent shape called the sack a dead end no through road or no exit road parkway a wide road with trees and grass on both sides tunnel a long passage under or through the earth made for vehicles causeway a raised way across wet ground or water dirt road a road of packed earth gravel etc with an unsealed surface traffic vocabulary [Music] intersection crossroads [Music] traffic circle roundabout sidewalk pavement a part of a road for people to walk on crosswalk zebra crossing traffic jam heavy traffic bumper to bumper traffic pothole a hole on a road surface the car hit a deep pothole useful vocabulary verbs change or switch lanes how to change lanes driving [Music] cut off to change lanes right in front of a car and give the car no space pull over to move to the side of the road and stop a policeman asked the driver to pull over pass take over a vehicle goes past another slower moving vehicle going in the same direction on a road slam on the brakes quickly press on a vehicle's brakes to slow down or stop swerve to quickly move your car to the left or right in order to avoid hitting something tailgate to drive too closely behind the vehicle in front the car behind me was tailgating me and i was worried they would hit me yield to wait and allow other cars to move before you tow to take away a vehicle that has been parked illegally [Music] fill up gas petroleum i am out of gas i need to head to the gas station to fill up my car thank you for watching i hope you enjoy this video and you pick up a lot of useful vocabulary and expressions thank you for watching and don't forget to click those subscribe and like buttons thank you for watching and see you soon [Music] oh [Music]
