if you remember scribbling down combinations to the fusion dance trying to hit the boulder with the z sword and getting terrible finger cramps from doing the spirit bomb then you grew up playing dragon ball z boos fury but here's the thing i didn't because boo's fury was never released here in the uk legacy of goku 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games for the gameboy advance yes even the first one where you start off collecting dirty magazines and i think legacy of goku 2 is the best dragon ball game ever made at least for a handheld you can see my videos on both of those games here so imagine my excitement when one day i was just sitting in my ict class scrolling through ign instead of building a website in dreamweaver and i saw the news that a sequel to legacy of goku 2 would be released later that year from that day on every time i'd go to my local game store i'd run straight for the game boy isle looking for booze fury but all i found was van helsing shark tale and catwoman eventually i read on the game forums that the game was never actually going to be released here in england and so i was left to suffer through catwoman the game i don't know where to go but 18 years later i finally got my hands on that missing piece of my childhood so is it as good as i imagined and can it be better than the second game can this be the best dragon ball game ever made well let's find out boo's fury starts with a recap of legacy of goku 2 and we find goku in his natural element dead the game actually picks up the plot at the start of the filler other world tournament saga that bridges the cell and buu arcs and i've got to hand it to these developers their attention to detail is great straight away you see loads of little bits from the anime the nice plane and the beat up old plane the goku rides on you get king kai oglin grand kai's cadillac so you then make your way through the forest filled with these generic dead fighters um i guess they're dead again now in terms of the gameplay and controls everything is almost identical to legacy of goku 2. it even carries on the level progression starting goku at level 60. a new addition to the gameplay is the improved stat system which now allows you to select which attributes you want to assign to your fighters you can also equip armor and accessories which boost their stats yes these additions are quite simple when compared to other rpgs but i think they provide a nice little enhancement to the gameplay alright so olubu wants to spa apparently he's the strongest guy here all right nice like he just buggers off nobody wants the kamehameha spam okay so the tournament begins hold on is that admiral agbar in the crowd we get these nice little 16-bit renditions of the fights one thing that has changed about the combat is the removal of the wall bounds from the second game and personally i think they should have kept that one because now most battles just consist of you cornering your opponent and pummeling them into submission okay so we get to time skip and then pick things up back on earth where gohan's all grown up he starts high school meets vidal and helps her fight crime as the great saiyan man we've got all your standard criminals here a punk rocker with a bazooka a dog and this big fella of course this wouldn't be a legacy of goku game without a healthy helping of filler missions the first one has gohan rescuing a baby dinosaur who's been kidnapped by the most evil of organizations the circus and trust me this really is an evil circus look they have a tank the story moves on to the world tournament goku's coming back and everybody gets to training and by training i mean grinding in the forest because the level barriers from the last game also make a return but you know what doing all of this grinding is almost worth it just so you can see the little details from the anime that have been incorporated into the game like goten throwing rocks at gohan trunks trying to hit vegeta in the gravity room the z fighters punching the machine too hard and trunks taking on that redneck kid after winning the final trunks takes on hercule oh wow is this gonna be an actual fight oh no wait he just sends him flying with one punch as i said very faithful to the enemy alright so the bad guys show up and for some reason spokovich and yamu are just huge and why do they look like south park characters anyway so the z fighters follow the bad guys and get some mid-flight exposition about the evil wizard barbidy who's looking to resurrect the monster margin boom but before we get to them the game throws a bunch more level walls at both gohan and goku meaning you're going to be grinding through a bunch of these mini popovich's for a while before finally getting inside barbary ship once inside each of the three fighters have to solve a bunch of puzzles before taking on the villains from the anime i'm trying to stop this video from becoming just a boo arc recap because this game is so faithful to the source material well at least when you're not grinding or doing side quests just know that whatever your favorite moment from the buu arc is the developers have probably incorporated it into the game oh it's margin vegeta better turn super saiyan for this ah crap and so vegeta makes the most noble useless sacrifice ever and then everybody reconvenes up at kami's lookout so remember that one mostly filler episode where the second tier characters look for the dragon ball so they can wish back everybody killed by margin vegeta well this is expanded into a huge chunk of the game where goten and trunks have to travel all around the world collecting all seven of the dragon balls and you can kind of see why the devs chose to expand this section so much most of the boo arc actually takes place across a couple of days so there's a lot less opportunity to pad the game out compared to the first two games where the story spans months or even years and so with booze fury the developers had to fit this extra content wherever they could and boy they really went all out with this dragon ball hunt we've got goten running through the desert then jumping on a moving train that's been taken over by bandits and by bandits i mean these dogs and guys that look like ub's dad the seven-year-old child then proceeds to kill all of them also why are these seats so huge compared to the people are they meant for popovich next we have trunks making his way through the ancient pyramid taking on mummies and a bunch of other undead creatures all to save these five identical scientists i swear to god this maze is as bad as the namekian maze from the first game the next dragon ball is atop an airship man by topless cyborgs trunks then comes back down to infiltrate the thieves den you see my bandana a bandana means i'm abandoned and a thief what's he on about what bandana so trunks disguises himself as a thief and steals the dragon ball only to have a monkey blow his cover left with no other choice the nine-year-old boy has to murder an entire army of thieves to escape trunks then flies over to pilaf's castle takes on a bunch of vampires and steals the dragon ball poor pilaf just can't get a break at this point he's going on to like 30 years of having all of his plans absolutely demolished by children not to be outdone goten then goes and wipes out an entire village of ninja and samurai okay one last dragon ball left where is it on top of some mountains surrounded by leather daddy tigers nope broly has it that's right broly this whole last mission is a quasi-tie-in to the second broly movie it's actually a nice touch so yeah the village has been terrorized by broly and trunks then proceeds to punch broly in the deck repeatedly oh look he just blows up you know what yeah getting hit in the nuts repeatedly will do that to a guy okay so with that chunk of filler out of the way we can continue with the main plot goku teaches the boys fusion then turns super saiyan 3 and takes on buu before having to return back to the other world goten and trunks then practice the dance until they're ready to take on buu meanwhile goku's back on snake way so is this where he goes looking for gohan on supreme kai's world eventually but first the game takes a bit of an unexpected turn we learned that the evil demon genember is causing havoc all across the other world that's right welcome to fusion reborn the side quest you know what it kind of makes sense if you're gonna pad out the game why not use the plethora of dragon ball movies that already exist i definitely prefer that to taking out some disco guy speakers or picking flowers alright so goku has to go down to hfil to find vegeta look there's even a river of blood and it's nice that someone put a bench next to it ah wait how can goku die again if he's already dead also how did this android get into hell and what kind of twist at pac-man level is this so goku finds vegeta they take on fat genumber and then fuse to take on the second form ah also side note you can actually go to heaven and meet a flower power deborah back to the main story where hercule befriends boo you actually get to play as hercule for a second and look the champs pack in heat meanwhile goku finds gohan training in the world of the kai's with the z sword ah rock okay back to goten and trunks on earth journal entry take a nap now that's an objective i don't mind grinding through alright so they fuse and go tanks takes on super boo for some reason the villains are huge in this game oh well time to utilize the old faithful dick punch back to gohan who's finished his training and ready to cosplay as his dad we've gotta find dundee hurry alright you do that i'm just gonna catch up on some reading what gohan will need to catch up on is some grinding because there's a hefty level barrier in the way so you do all this grinding just to get absorbed in the very next fight and why does he have to grind if he's just unlocked his potential and achieve this ultimate form i don't know it kind of seems like a bit of a waste of time to me right so goku returns then vegeta which means it's time to fuse but first it's goku's turn to grind another 40 levels and then finally you get to fuse and punch super boo in the dick so vegito then gets absorbed and then you've got to make your way deeper inside boo thankfully there's no grinding here you just get to beat up these blood cells and punch the gallbladder to unlock the sphincter also you get these little tumor that spit out green goo at you it's not a tumor and i don't even know where i am right now although i wonder what will happen if i do a big bang attack here so you rescue the kids in piccolo and then take on buu inside his own head oh he's moonwalking we then get a bunch more plot supreme kai's backstory and then the earth blows up and then it's time for the final showdown and by final showdown i mean goku vegeta fighting buu about a hundred different times we then get the big spirit bomb featuring hercule and that's the end i was glad to see the epilogue section 10 years later is intact although it's not really playable it's more of a long cutscene as for the post game it mainly consists of collecting z fighter exhibits oh and there's also a multiplayer mode where you and a friend choose one of the fighters and go head to head inside a dojo i imagine this would have been pretty fun back in the day and so there we have it dragon ball z boos fury look i know the buu saga isn't exactly everyone's favorite but it is kind of a sentimental favorite of mine as this was the saga being broadcast on cartoon network uk when i first started getting into dragon ball so seeing this game be so faithful to that portion of the story was one of the best things about it for me plus having both broly and the fusion movies as side stories was a nice touch i also enjoyed some of the new gameplay elements like the customizable attribute system and the equipment but i've got to say taking out the wall bounce and the charge attack was definitely a misstep but my biggest issue with boost fury has got to be the level barriers and the grinding i'm not sure that there's actually more grinding here than in legacy of goku too but it feels a lot more tedious as i said this is probably because of the more compact nature of the story i wish they'd have just got rid of the barriers altogether just let the player take on the boss like in other rpgs and if they get their ass kicked then go back and level up and try again so time for the big question is this game better than legacy of goku 2. well unlike the first game two and booze fury are very similar to the point of booze fury kind of feeling like a giant dlc for legacy of goku 2. and because of that i really think it sort of depends on which dragon ball z arc is your favorite if you like the android and cell sagas then it's probably gonna end up being legacy of goku too but if you prefer the boo and fusion sagas it's probably gonna be this game but i'd like to put this hypothesis to the test which is why i'd be really interested to hear from you guys especially those who actually got to play the game when it first came out is this the best in the trilogy and if so could it be the best dragon ball game ever let me know your thoughts in the comments please remember to like subscribe hit the bell and follow me on twitter [Music] you
