today i'm an all-new dr phil she's seven months pregnant sir i'm duck still people you know who you are out of control i said that i didn't want that talked about you're not running this show and putting your baby at risk you smell crack and use heroin once or twice isn't really like using why did you refuse to take a drug stream if anybody cares about this unborn child then tell me the truth all right i need to stop let's do it everybody here we go i hate to see people suffering and you've heard long enough stand by dr phil i'm gonna get you the help that you need five four this is gonna be a changing day in your life take a look at these pictures they are the aftermath of a fiery crash caused by a 16 year old girl purposely leading police on a high-speed chase she says she gunned the gas flipped her rear-view mirror and blasted the music to drown out the sound of sirens surprisingly she survived the crash but her reckless behavior is nearly killing her mother kristen take a look my 18 year old daughter sarah is absolutely out of control no one can ever control me to this day i'm gonna do what i want sarah started using drugs and drinking in middle school sarah's drug use has escalated over the years going from marijuana to pills to crack and heroin she was so out of control i went to the local courts the court system assisted in getting her into programs for at-risk youth she ended up going to different group homes being group homes was like awful because i'd either get kicked out or i would run away from them once sarah could run away from a group home and i got a call after four days of her being missing i'm not talking about that now i'm gonna go smoke a cigarette i was terrified and so afraid for her sarah seemed to be spiraling more and more out of control one night someone offered to you know just give me heroin and i had never tried it before so i decided to take my mom's car and go and get her sarah didn't have a driver's license the police tried to pull her over that resulted in a high-speed police chase which ended where the car burst into flames and the police officer broke her out of the car i don't know what to do i never feel like i know what sarah's going to do next well unfortunately it gets worse kristin was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and feels time could be running out to save her daughter and her unborn grandchild that's right sarah is seven months pregnant kristin is terrified that her grandbaby will be born addicted because sarah admits to smoking cigarettes and marijuana every day and a two-week crack and heroin binge just one month ago now as you can imagine my biggest concern today is the well-being of the unborn baby i couldn't imagine things getting any worse seven months ago sarah found out she was pregnant i'm excited about being pregnant i feel like having a baby will definitely like help me get my priorities straight sarah is currently still using drugs when i was first pregnant and i was doing drugs i only used heroin and crack for like two weeks the only drugs i use at the moment is i just smoke marijuana i do smoke cigarettes at least a pack a day the first time i saw sarah high after knowing she was pregnant my heart just dropped i'm so angry at her for doing this to her son sarah says she only used hard drugs at the beginning of her pregnancy but i no longer believe anything that sarah says sarah is a drug addict i do not feel like i have a drug problem whatsoever i wouldn't say my life's out of control i can smoke crack or do whatever and then the next day i'll wake up and i won't even want it i'm not so much afraid that this baby is going to be born addicted as i am that he's going to be born alive my biggest fear with sarah in her pregnancy is that she's done irreversible damage to that little boy and she'll have to live with the consequences of that less than a year ago kristen was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and has been undergoing chemo and radiation treatments kristin says her cancer diagnosis has not stopped sarah's raging behavior eight months ago i was diagnosed with breast cancer sarah will come home slamming doors and start with verbal abuse right away on her mother i call my mom [ __ ] everything that i could possibly think of i went through 12 rounds of chemotherapy and 33 radiations now that she has had cancer she threw her own like sympathy party and expected everyone all feel bad for me millions of people have cancer like i'm not gonna wait on you hand and foot we're not gonna shine your shoes and brush your hair that's gone my mom has used her cancer to gain something from people i feel like my mom just likes to play the victim in every situation she possibly can i feel like she is making a bigger deal about her cancer than it really is sarah's upset whenever she doesn't get all the attention it's all about sarah all the time i feel like my mom thinks the world should revolve around her because of her cancer i don't think she thinks it does i think she thinks damn well should but it is not going to in my world okay kristen ralph good to meet you sorry for the circumstance we have an empty chair here because sarah now is backstage refusing to come on what's your biggest fear that my daughters both are going to die and that that baby is going to be either permanently damaged or not alive we've been talking about sarah you have another daughter sadie sadie sadie is using drugs as well yes sadie's in the same position sarah minus a pregnancy minus the pregnancy and you have concerns for this unborn child right of course and this child now is we're guessing seven months into the pregnancy so certainly viable at this point and your daughter is ingesting all manner of drugs i mean some we know about and some we probably don't know about yeah and listen the the baby gets blood and oxygen supply from the mother through the placenta and what she takes in and puts in her blood goes through and goes to the baby for example this heroin that she's talking about using we have found research indicates that the the level of toxicity within the baby can be between 50 and 100 percent of what's in the mother so the baby's using drugs and and your daughter also smokes yeah 4 000 chemicals in tobacco 60 known carcinogens all of these things going right through to the baby as well yeah um so is this an emergent situation to you is this something that you consider to be an emergent crisis absolutely without a doubt it hasn't been very i do agree it was an emergency a while ago and has been so yes it is at a crisis point right now well here she comes oh thank you i didn't say do it what am i lying about what happened are you serious i'm glad you're out here because i want you now's the time go ahead no continue i want to hear this please okay sir i'm dr phil by the way i know who you are you don't want to shake my hand okay let me tell you what you know what we can do this easy or we can do it hard okay and and i'm trying to treat you with dignity and respect but if you want to get up on your hind legs and these things and be bratty about it then let me tell you you ain't going to believe what happens next okay well that is completely wrong you need to rethink what you're doing what i'm doing yeah you need to rethink what you're doing right now and overall are you pregnant and how well pregnant how far are you pregnant 27 weeks okay is it responsible for you to be taking drugs while you're pregnant no it is not okay do you want to know something yeah i only use the beginning of my pregnancy i have not used it until i came here so what drugs have you used since you got here marijuana what else i used cocaine twice since you've been here yes and you're seven months pregnant yes said on the tape you drug screened me and i'm clean why did you refuse the drugstore all right i need to stop for a second and later she's saying she does drugs with you and you know that your sister's pregnant but if what she's doing to this child is a crime then you would be an accomplice wednesday on an all-new dr phil she thinks her daughter-in-law is a [ __ ] she wants proof that her grandson is biologically hurt i told her bring it on i have the dna results then on thursday they're two of the wealthiest teenagers in the world heirs to a billion dollar fortune you're taking diamonds to school for show and tell and nobody knows that you're locked in a room for days at a time this is luxurious life but it's downtown living health the shocking exclusive interview they say they have been beaten abused starved neglected witness murder they survived the unthinkable feet really really bad locked in my bedroom with the deadbolt locked on the outside that's thursday now when i say are you using drugs you went on a two-week heroin and crack binge when you were six months pregnant right no it was beginning of my pregnancy a month ago are you kidding me sarah a month ago when you and your sister both were going out and doing that and we know that's true we know what even if i sat here and told you the truth and said it wasn't and you know what mom you have it in your head whatever you want in your head of how everything is you found parent vanilla in my bedroom when i had a friend over that was doing it mom her boyfriend you know that you know you know that wasn't me i know you know that was not me did you not even play that i will stop lets you and i talk for a minute why don't you stay out of this for a minute because we've seen the results of your management you're right okay so let me talk to your daughter for a few minutes here yes she knows it wasn't me she told me see that's deflection i'm not interested in that i'm interested in the fact that you say oh hey it was early on in my pregnancy well let me give you a flash when you use those drugs in the first trimester of your pregnancy brain spine and central nervous system are at risk i know and i feel like scumbag thank you okay yeah well you're welcome thank you for abusing this child okay that's abuse i'm sorry that's not what i want i was doing really really good in the first trimester of your pregnancy you use these drugs and that can cause your baby's brain to be malformed your baby's spine to be malformed in the first trimester okay yeah i messed up yeah i think so so you you come here with the opportunity to get some help and and you want to be rebellious and defiant i don't get that you messed up it would seem to me like you'd be saying hey listen if you've got help and resources to help try to take care of my baby to help me take care of my baby i wouldn't then i i would think you would be leaning into that instead of arguing with your mother let me tell you your mother didn't take those drugs you did have you i'm sorry i haven't even been arguing with her you've been arguing with her since you got out here about using a month ago because you're not telling the truth on that even on that video you said what did you say when you found out i was pregnant you were angry no you told me you were so excited so why did you lie though doesn't matter what i'm interested in let me tell you i wouldn't be talking to you except i'm here to protect this child you know frankly if you and your sister wanted to go out and get high i i got 10 000 letters stacked up on my desk i wouldn't be talking to you what i want so why are you doing it i can't be around myself like i sound pathetic but i cannot like be around her like she's just not a good influence for me i try to help her i go months and months and months doing nothing honestly i swear and then it's right when she comes around well we'll hear from her in a minute talk about these are adults they can talk about what they want to talk about i know but they they asked me if there was anything i didn't want to be aired to let them know i i swear to god and that's what i told them like that's a sensitive subject for me and that was like what how long ago and it's not like it like yeah i ran away yeah there's a little piece of that tape that i want to replay watch this very closely no one can ever control me to this day i'm going to do what i want nobody's going to control me i'm going to do what i want so that was a lot because when i said that we were me and the interview person were talking about my past and everything and i said that i couldn't be controlled when i was younger in and out of placements which i haven't been for actually over eight how it's been a year two years and that's what i was talking about okay when when you got here what i mean by no one can control me to this day is like if if i feel like something's not not right you know i'm not going to do it but it's just so where did you get the cocaine when you were here when you got here how did you get it you walked out of front of the hotel what'd you do i didn't i didn't get it who got it for you your sister sadie yeah okay she went out and got it for you and came back and and you did it right yeah and did you get drunk no i know i don't drink when i'm i know uh-huh so you draw the line i drink it you'll do cocaine you'll do crack and you'll do heroin but you won't drink i haven't done any of those things except for cocaine while i was here i've been clean for months i've been clean for months why did you refuse to take a drug screen this morning you said on the tape you drug screened me and i'm clean so we brought in a nurse and offered you to do a drug screen why did you refuse the drug screen because everything's just so honestly like i feel like you're like trying to get me to get mad right now and i'm trying to get you to what all right i need to stop for a second please like i'm i don't i don't know i mean i still knew what you said you said i'm trying to get you to what can i please like just take a break for a second like you guys you don't understand i'm like really overwhelmed right now like i'll tell you what let's take a break and when we come back we're going to meet this sister and i'm either going to have a conversation with sarah here or we're going to have it somewhere else we'll brought back by the time i turned 17 years old i was a full-blown addict when i first met keith he didn't know about my drug use i went out and bought padlocks for like a locked city in my house i would lock the padlocks i put these precautions in place to make sure she wouldn't buy any more drugs in one week a family brutally slaughtered police say penny cathy and her eight and thirteen-year-old sons were shot and stabbed multiple times before dying the house was then set on fire police have arrested a 16 year old daughter she has told a lot of different stories about what happened tonight that they were murdered but today we're going to try to find out the truth a dr phil exclusive they practically decapitate your mother shoot and stab your brothers to death her plan was to have the entire family murdered so what was aaron's reaction when she learned that her father had actually survived the brutal attack i was shot 11 times these are bullet wounds in your father's body have you seen me this is where they shot him in the face but is her father in denial you know that she planned this right how do you transition from the daughter that everybody would dream of to find the death of your family for the first time the daughter speaks out you needed them out of the way for a reason what was it when the girls were growing up i was struggling i really wasn't available to them because i was an active alcoholic i was drinking nightly probably six to nine beers a night i had my first drink when i was probably like a toddler my mom she used to leave her beer is just sitting around stadium and i would just like walk up and just start chugging them i thought i was a good mother i really did i was so caught up in the selfishness of alcoholism i didn't know anything else i feel responsible for not giving them a more secure childhood that caused them to have to make the decisions they do now that was kristin admitting that she feels responsible for how her children have turned out because she was busy drinking when they were young we're looking here at an ongoing legacy right i mean you chose a bad path uh you just heard her say two years old she's picking up and chugging empty half empty bottles i have no idea at two years old you do know she was so stressed she was pulling her own hair out yeah right yes you do know at five she's trying to jump out of a window you do know that this child has had extreme stress in her life because of the choices that you've made yes absolutely okay so you know you reap what you sow you did it now she's doing it and we are in real danger of this unborn child being born addicted yes yeah do you believe that everything that you know about is what there is to know or do you think there's more to it no no i'm not claiming to know everything i mean she's very likely using more drugs than she's telling you about yes i mean they weren't here for 24 hours before they were getting high and i know she's used more than just here i mean i do know that and then yeah i'm sure there's even more you know because no one's telling the whole truth no one's even telling a little bit of the truth so i'm assuming we're not getting the whole truth yeah we in fact got a notice of fine this morning from the hotel that we do business with they're finding us 250 dollars because of marijuana use in the room because they've got to go in and redo the room they've got to get all of that smell out of there and stuff because these girls are in there smoking dope now kristen's other daughter 20 year old sadie also admits to using crack and heroin even with her sister sarah now look i'm no lawyer and i'm not in law enforcement but i think when you recklessly endanger a child that could well be criminal and sadie could well be an accomplice in that regard we'll get to that later sadie says her boyfriend keith has resorted to extreme controlled tactics to stop sadie from using drugs he padlocks her in the house screws the window shut and monitors her every move with a security camera by the time i turned 17 years old i was a full-blown addict there was so much going on with sarah when sadie started using drugs i couldn't see it my drug addiction progressed from pain pills to heroin to cocaine to crack six months ago i started dating keith when i moved into his home i became pretty much a stay-at-home mom to his daughter i would care for her when i was high on heroin when i first met keith he didn't know about my drug use i started to notice money missing i took his debit card and that would take hundreds of dollars a week she had taken at least a thousand dollars out of my pocket while i was sleeping i hold not only sadie accountable but her sister sarah as well they'd go to the drug deal or buy some crack or cocaine or some prescription drugs this has made me totally lose trust in sadie i went out and bought padlocks so i could lock sadie in my house i went out and bought a safe to put my money in i would lock the padlocks and i'd head to work i put these precautions in place to make sure she wouldn't buy any more drugs i haven't touched any drugs in about two weeks city left small crack last night she's sick she's gonna die i've dug myself into a pretty big hole and eventually i'm just going to be buried alive and there's no way out you know you can whisper to me no y'all don't pay attention to the assistant between us i can just say i'm a hundred percent willing to give cover custody to my mom until i my together this could just be done like i i don't know i'm trying like i'm sorry i just i know i don't oh my god you you understand it's so hard like if anyone's ever been in this situation you know how hard it is you're doing a good job siri are you addicted to drugs she's saying she does drugs with you and you know that your sister's pregnant but if what she's doing to this child is a crime then you would be an accomplice sharing are you addicted to drugs no i am not addicted to drugs okay so i'm not i use sometimes i'm not addicted to drugs i would not say i'm an addict i do not get physically sick i'm here as an advocate for this unborn child you get that right i understand that yeah and i listen and hear things that not other people hear and i've been doing this for a long long time i just ask you if you were now you said no i use sometimes and people that use drugs aren't all addicts i i get that but what you just told me is i'm not an addict i just choose to use sometimes and other times not i don't have withdrawal problems right honestly it's when i use them i'm with my sister okay well i'm gonna get to her in a minute but since you say you're not an addict then that means you choose to use addicts get to a point where it becomes an involuntary craving an absolute must have physiologically psychologically sociologically behaviorally every way and you say that's not you right i just want to be sure it's really important okay that's not you okay and see that's it's kind of which is the worst of two evils because you're just telling me no i don't do this out of addiction i just choose to do it i know i'm pregnant and i choose to do it i don't know why i choose to do it with her i don't do it when i'm not with her i don't i don't know what makes me choose to do it when i'm with her i just what would we have found in your drug screen this morning if you had agreed to step up and take it like a responsible mother so i could get the information that i need in order to take proper detox steps to protect your child what would we have found cocaine so why wouldn't you take it just because it's just overwhelming everything's just overwhelming right now i'm really stressed out i didn't i didn't want you to take the drug screen to impeach you because i don't need that because you've already said you've done heroin you've done crack you're smoking marijuana you're smoking while you're praying you told me all that i wanted that to see what levels were and what chemicals were in your body so i would know what would be important prenatally for your i child i understand that yeah but you still said no or you just mean you understand it now but you didn't then i understand it now yeah will you take the drug screen now i just don't okay think about that one she's saying she does drugs with you are you an addict absolutely a hundred percent yeah yeah anymore i'm sorry there's absolutely no control yeah and you know that your sister's pregnant yeah but if what she's doing to this child is a crime then you would be an accomplice yes because we um we kind of beat each other's demons like this because you admit that you've smoked crack and snorted heroin with your pregnant sister you smoke marijuana with her daily right pretty much not daily well not since not for like a while we just started hanging out again you've used percocet cocaine and heroin right yeah i mean the heroine was like literally like six months ago honestly like or maybe a little less honestly like i haven't been addicted to it for a while i got that out of myself are you high now no last night to be honest last night you were high what'd you what'd you do last night sleeping pills like and they told me you'd put me to sleep but it made me like kind of slow you know we heard a tape piece from your boyfriend and he says it's gotten to the point that you're just stealing from him right yeah well sadie's boyfriend keith is here today and i have a lot of questions for him as well she's stealing things from me right the last thing she stole was a digital camcorder i had just assumed she sold it for crack crack heroines percocet whatever wednesday on an all-new dr phil she thinks her daughter-in-law is a [ __ ] she wants proof that her grandson is biologically hurt i told her bring it on i have the dna results that's wednesday mercedes boyfriend keith is here today she's stealing things from you right yes what's she stealing most recently what has she stolen the last thing she stole was a digital camcorder i had what'd you do with it i just use it to pay somebody back you you didn't pawn it you just paid just yeah use it for payment just here's this camera and that way we're even or at least it reduces what i owe you yeah what's your understanding about what she did with the camera all i know is that it was there in the morning when i left for work and i came home and it was not there yeah you just assumed she sold it for crack crack heroin suboxone right you know percocet whatever you did take a drug screen you tested positive for thc cocaine and meth and you tried to water the urine down to sabotage the test correct correct how did you do that put it under the faucet so you ran water and try to dilute it you know the problem with taking street drugs is you have no idea what's in them yeah i know you you say you just smoke marijuana you have no idea what they fertilized it with this is an fda control that you you're just this cigarettes themselves have cyanide in them they have 4 000 chemicals in them that and then you start street drugs and we know the kind of people that bring you the street drugs they seem very lab savvy to me um so you're taking you don't even know what it is they're giving you you know they could be cutting it with bacon soda or any you have no idea what's in there you just pay your money and and take them and you know that's that's the problem right just anything to get rid of the pain honestly that's all that matters at that time yeah are you going to tell me the truth about your sister the truth but what i want to know i want to know what all she's doing she didn't take a drug test so i wonder what all she's doing when somebody says no to something like a drug test i assume they have something to hide i'm just saying if anybody here besides me cares about this unborn child then tell me the truth yep i mean i just tell me the truth i want to be the one to tell you right now but i know and what i know from being told by her sister and by her that you that she's used cocaine i heard something about ecstasy within the last couple of days of methadone or meth not method of meth definitely smoking weed this is what i've been told we're here for this baby and for you guys but for this baby i'm going to say whatever i know and that is the reality of the fact along with the fact that a month ago you two were using together smoking crack together snorting heroin together bottom line that's it that's the truth cut the crap that's the truth that's why we're here to be done with it but you told me that isn't the truth you said you did a long time ago and you didn't use again until you were here with your sister now she's saying a month ago you were doing all of this you know you were i mean like once or twice wasn't really like using what i underst oh that was just hilarious well you know what it's so ridiculous it's hilarious they're laughing at the ridiculousness of your statement they're not laughing because you're funny they're laughing because you are absurd with what you're saying it just didn't come out right i don't have the right words right now there is no right word for what's been going on which is why we're here it's just wrong why do you think i took the initiative before we even came out here to get into counseling and i already have it set up why why do you think i did that what counseling do you have set up the anger management that starts on the 28th of january no i have the anger management and i'm waiting for a call back on drug counseling if you're not an addict why do you need drug counseling i just want to learn about it you know like ignore it how's that the laptop was missing from our house last week last week that was traded for crack cocaine i did not steal it you're wrong it never happened it did happen i know the laptop ended up coming back we know the story we know the story okay well no probably not stole my ipad and traded it for cocaine no i did not last weekend no i did not i helped you look you tried to sell it to somebody and then you didn't give it to them when they offered you cocaine okay no yeah and then you went until that person your father was buying you a couple hundred dollars and you got more cocaine no you sound familiar no you're wrong that never happened it did happen it did not happen i know what happened and that did not happen i did not take your ipad last time okay i've done nothing to you the counseling that's set up in the future is too long for me to wait get into this show was almost too long for me to wait uh you know i really appreciate i know you get a lot of letters and i appreciate it and when she stole in the house i i don't i've never seen it was a line that it was just like we can't go here no no it's coming okay well i have text to my mom saying i know you didn't do it i don't care about those i know for a fact you took it well i did did you see me take it no there were only three people i did not and i ended up three streets away from my house whatever i'm not even humoring this anymore because you guys are incapable of telling the truth sadie you're coming close you are thank you i just don't really know because this is enough i mean like i'm not even lying like i'll tell the truth about myself she can tell the truth about herself if she chooses trying to be the victim i know what i did wrong and i'm trying to help you here i'm trying thinks that's active all the time every doctor's appointment that says he's growing healthy and everything your behavior leading up to today and today is to me addict behavior you said all of these doctors appointments we ask you for your doctor's contact information name and number nope what i didn't say no yes you did yes we asked you about the midwife you said no nobody called me my phone shut off they called me and i asked you and you said no oh okay now where you asked for that information and did you say no i was barely even i don't even i don't know i don't know you don't know but i didn't even use it yesterday i just don't know i like everything is just so overwhelming and like stressful and it's been like honestly before we came here we didn't use for two weeks one of my staff either one of us ask you for that information and you refuse to give it to her i can have that person come out here and confirm that if it would help you organize it in your mind for my medical records do you remember talking to lauren you remember lauren asking you for your midwife's information well no i don't remember saying no because i wouldn't say no to that why would i say no don't know i'm pretty sure i didn't my phone's been shut off and i don't remember ever telling you anything about that it was yesterday i don't remember hollywood boulevard you refused to get on the phone you were asked the information and you screamed out no yeah well you need that how specific do we need to go boulevard and we were walking and i was aggravated because she kept snapping at me and i just said i don't want to talk to anyone on this phone right now like i just don't want to talk to anyone on the phone right now that's it i did not say no i didn't want to give her the information you know i didn't i said i i don't want to talk on the phone right now yeah after that yeah but it's because this is why i need to work on my anger when i'm angry i just say things and i like well here we go i hate to see people suffering and you've hurt long enough stand by dr phil today a story so dire we are not going to stop taping until i get the answer i need to hear because it will literally save an unborn child's life sarah is 18 years old seven months pregnant and admits that she smokes cigarettes and marijuana daily and has done cocaine in fact she just snorted some a few days ago she's taken klonopin heroin and other street drugs all while she's pregnant but she says hey i know pregnant friends who did drugs and their babies are fine well here's what happened yesterday when i confronted sarah her sister sadie their mother kristen and step dad ralph my 18 year old daughter sarah is absolutely out of control no one can ever control me to this day i'm going to do what i want take a look at these pictures they are the aftermath of a fiery crash caused by a girl purposely leading police on a high-speed chase sarah's drug use has escalated over the years going from marijuana to pills to crack and heroin seven months ago sarah found out she was pregnant the first time i saw sarah hi after knowing she was pregnant my heart just dropped eight months ago i was diagnosed with breast cancer sarah will come home slamming doors and start with verbal abuse right away on her mother i feel like my mom thinks the world should revolve around her because of her cancer i don't think she thinks it does i think she thinks damn well should but it is not going to in my world we have an empty chair here because sarah is backstage refusing to come on well here she comes thank you i'm sure i'm stuck still by the way let me tell you what we can do this easy or we can do it hard okay what drugs have you used since you got here marijuana what else i use cocaine twice let me give you a flash when you use those drugs in the first trimester of your pregnancy brain spine and central nervous system are at risk i know and i feel like scumbag thank you yeah well you're welcome thank you for abusing this child why did you refuse the drugstore all right i need to stop for a second what's your biggest fear that my daughter's supposed to go to die and that that baby's gonna be permanently damaged and not alive we've been talking about sarah you have another daughter sadie sadie is using drugs as well yes i haven't touched any drugs in about two weeks city lost small crack last night she's sick she's gonna die i've dug myself into a pretty big hole and eventually i'm just going to be buried alive she's saying she does drugs with you are you an addict absolutely 100 you know that your sister's pregnant but if what she's doing to this child is a crime you would be an accomplice yes because you admit that you smoke crack and snorted heroin with your pregnant sister you did take a drug screen you tested positive for thc cocaine and meth a month ago you two were smoking crack together snorting heroin together that's the truth cut the crap once or twice isn't really like using what oh that was just hilarious oh you know what it's so ridiculous it's hilarious they're laughing at the ridiculousness of your statement did you tell our staff member a pa here that you got drunk with someone from australia no said you've been here last night no no you didn't drink with there i don't know whether you did it or not i'm just saying did you say you did you were right there when i was talking to them i said he was there okay me and her were outside earlier that day smoking a cigarette we were talking about how i was craving pizza he so happened to order pizza the next time i was outside i don't know i don't know his name is glenn is he by chance from australia yeah he's australian but i did not drink so we didn't just pull that out i did not drink you could blood test me right now i have no alcohol in my system i did not honestly i would tell you i don't know what you did or not i didn't ask you if you did i just asked if you said you did no i never said i did ever i said he was drunk and making me very uncomfortable so i went back to our room did you also say that you lost your state id no in his room i didn't lose it it should be on top of his dresser i just don't remember which room number it says because i remember i emptied my pocket is this some guy you met i met him the first day i was there he was talking to mom mom knows him and she knows and you're in his hotel room and you left your id there yeah because i used it earlier i was in my pocket because i got cigarettes where were you two i didn't think it was a good idea to have their own room to begin with i was trying to track them for the last three days when she's going in some australian guy's room she does in the middle of the night we're in around the middle of the night then when was it i i wish i was able to be there what did she say when i told you about it this morning you said oh he's cool isn't he uh sarah's seven months pregnant she admits to using drugs but she says hey i know people who have done drugs while pregnant and their babies are fine now mom kristen says her grandbaby is what she is most worried about that's why we're here today here's what sarah had to say i'm having a boy he's due april 25th i believe sarah is completely clueless about what it is to be a parent i definitely feel like my life is straightened out enough that if i was to get a job i could raise this child of my own sarah is delusional sarah has no job no education sarah has absolutely no concept of what is involved in child raising i feel like i would do everything i could possibly do to give my baby a different life than my mom and my dad gave me i'm terrified for that baby boy what scares me the most about sarah raising a baby is unless she gets her temper under control i truly believe that that baby may be you know abused by her she's been abusing it in utero why wouldn't she after he's born actually sir i just actually enrolled myself in anger management counseling starts the 27th of january so no i don't feel like i need help kristen and i have discussed the possibility of us raising this child the idea of my mom raising my baby makes me feel very angry it's just not gonna happen i'm raising my child and that is how it is gonna be well it's time to stop the back and forth we'll be right back our rules for the house is no drinking no using drugs i believe if you don't want to live by the rules you can move out of the house i hold my ground with sarah and kristen does not back me sarah knows how to manipulate me i have heard sarah tell her mother how you're going to feel when you can never see this child done a pushover i'm horrible at following through with the consequences i don't want my pregnant daughter to live on the street when they try and kick me out of the house i usually ask why and it's usually a reason that makes absolutely no sense and later we have no choice but to report what's going on here i haven't even used drugs like i didn't even use today at all so i'm just going to turn this over to the police tomorrow is this the most meddling mother-in-law of all did you go in their bedroom with a video camera she thinks her daughter-in-law is a [ __ ] she wants proof that her grandson is biologically hurt i have the dna results then on thursday heirs to a billion dollar fortune you're taking diamonds to school for show and tell and nobody knows that you're locked in a room for days at a time the deadbolt lock on the outside the shocking exclusive interview they say they have been beaten abused starved neglected they survived the unthinkable they were small and frail very underweight a lot of dark circles under their eyes you pick him by your ankles like this and he would drop me on your head that's thursday people need to know that i'm not using drugs right now you could drug test me right this second and i would drug test completely clean except for marijuana i'm not doing anything to harm my child i'm doing everything i can for people to sit there and degrade me and say that i'm a mom and all this other stuff you know it's not right and they don't even know the situation well sarah and sadie both claim they haven't used anything other than marijuana in a couple of weeks and then as we got to talking we found it well that's not true since we go since they've been here they've used cocaine and marijuana as well joining us now on the stage is the medical director for the los angeles department of child and family services well-known author a member of my advisory board dr charles sophie dr sophie thank you for being here also i've asked los angeles-based attorney and child advocate ariva martin to be here and i would like to talk to her about sarah's unborn baby's rights here in just a minute you two been listening to everything we've been talking about so far here and we've got three people involved here we've got sadie she says she's an addict we've got sarah who says no she's not but she does use drugs and then we have an unborn child here that's now at seven months almost seven months so certainly uh viable at this point now you know there's a lot of history you may have missed that we talked about while you were gone that the two of you heard your mother's parenting skills when you two were growing up was abominable in my opinion she was negligent she was abusive she was an alcoholic the stress that was placed on the two of you during that time you probably don't even have an appreciation for how divergent that is from what you deserved to have we saw stress signs in you at two years old pulling your hair out five years old trying to jump out a window drinking leftover alcohol sitting around i i look at the two of you and i don't ask myself why you have problems with drugs and anger and dysfunctional behavior i ask myself why not i mean i i totally get it i i know why you are making the choices you're making and there's nothing you can do to undo that now but you can do the right thing now so i get it i get it isn't fair you didn't get a fair shake when you were growing up you didn't you deserved better and you didn't get it sadie you deserved so much better neither of you got what you deserved but that legacy has to stop at some point i don't want you to do the same thing with your baby that your mother did with you i don't want that to happen you know i don't want that to happen for either one of you i really don't but at this point uh let's let's talk about this baby at this point because i i understand but sarah seems to minimize and trivialize this i want to talk about it medically and legally in terms what about this baby's rights here you know dr phil talk about cases of babies having babies this is just a prime example of a baby having a baby and thank you for stepping up for this unborn child and in states across this country women who abuse drugs while pregnant are criminally prosecuted they're put in jail they're fine they're forced to go to counseling so you're not only risking your freedom you're risking having that baby in jail so this is such a serious matter here and and i'm hearing you you know make excuses for it but what i want you to leave here with today is that you can be in jail do you want to have your baby on the floor of a jail and someone take that baby away even before you can touch coddle or name that child that's what we're talking about here's some very serious implications for you criminally as well as civil uh commitment for you and having that baby taken away from you so dr phil this isn't just about you know getting sarah help this is about that baby being put in a safe place this is a loop of babies that are born addicted gotta look at it you have to say you have to feel it these babies shake they're in withdrawal when they're born they're craving their heroin i would never do that baby this february at age 19 i was married to the prophet of the flds people this 85 year old man who has 64 other wives a former sect member confronts her polygamous father my father condones my marriage how does that make sense to a father to marry his daughter off to the group keeper plus was this soldier falsely convicted you had a hand in putting my son in jail possibly for life have you ever made false allegations prior to this yes i have he's this father killing his child you have an addict for a daughter and you're giving her money are you telling me that you don't know she's buying drugs with her you took her to a drug house to get it and a family brutally slaughtered police have arrested the 16 year old daughter you know that she planned this right for the first time they practically decapitate your mother shoot and stab your brothers to death the daughter speaks out you needed them out of the way for a reason what was it i do know that using drugs of any sort is not okay when you're pregnant but i am good friends with people that did use when they were pregnant and their children are perfectly fine they have no problems that does not mean that i think that my son isn't going to have any problems he very well could but it's not going to change the fact that like i still i'm going to love this [ __ ] out of him and dr sophie i want to talk to you in a minute as the medical director of the largest department of child and family services unit in the entire united states you are the medical director of that i want to talk to you about that aspect of it in a minute but first i want to talk to you about this from a medical standpoint because i think sarah in her mind just because she doesn't know i don't think she's trying to be hard-headed about it i just think she doesn't get the ramifications of what she's doing on this unborn child from a from a medical standpoint what are the risks here i mean the earlier in the pregnancy that you insult that child with drugs alcohol whatever it is you're risking the development of their spinal cord their brain their vital organs kidney liver all that stuff you have put from birth to at least the first trimester about 10 or 20 barriers in this kids way already we don't know what what the ramifications are going to be so i mean from a medical standpoint every puff you do every snort you take you're adding another problem for that child do you get that yeah i get that and i didn't know that and this is not to scare you like we're just making noise trying to make excuses i'm not this is a loop of babies that are born addicted i want you to everyone just take a look at this look at that you've got to look at it you have to say you have to feel it because that's what's going to make an impact for you and i wish we could show her dr phil women on floors in prison delivering babies that's a reality okay oh sarah these babies shake they're in withdrawal when they're born they're craving their heroin they can't suck they can't eat they get diarrhea they vomit they don't gain weight they don't bond to you because they're too busy neurologically there's so much noise going on for them then they have delays often they don't talk they suffer from mental retardation that's the reality of why i agreed to talk to you because i don't think any young woman with a clear view of what the risks were would make the decisions you're making i think if you knew then what you know now i would never want to do that to my baby okay but so you've learned something here today right yeah i am so sorry like i cannot wait to tell way and the fact is it it may not be too late because what needs to happen at this point and dr sophie helped me out here i don't want to get out of my lane but what needs to happen at this point is a very different type of prenatal care a very different regimen that could bolster this baby and close any gaps that may have happened there are things that can be done remedially that might can help this situation and you know your baby may be completely fine we don't know we need to know there are certain people that are mandated by law to report abuse and neglect and endangerment of a child we have no choice but to report what's going on here i haven't even used drugs today at all monday a family brutally slaughtered police say penny cathy and her eight and thirteen-year-old sons were shot and stabbed multiple times before dying the house was then set on fire police have arrested the 16 year old daughter she has told a lot of different stories about what happened tonight that they were murdered but today we're going to try to find out the truth are dr phil exclusive they practically decapitate your mother shoot and stab your brothers to death her plan was to have the entire family murdered so what was aaron's reaction when she learned that her father had actually survived the brutal attack i was shot 11 times these are bullet wounds in your father's body have you seen me this is where they shot him in the face but is her father in denial you know that she planned this right how do you transition from the daughter that everybody would dream of to pardon the death of your family for the first time the daughter speaks out you needed them out of the way for a reason what was it i feel like ralph just needs to just like my mom open his eyes and realize the reality of everything it's not me i am not the problem i feel like it's katie's drug problem more than anything people should definitely stop judging me because they don't even know what's going on i believe that you have a choice to make right now and that is to voluntarily submit yourself to an inpatient program of care for you and your baby to find out where you are and deal with your drug use with your anger with your bitterness towards your mother which is very understandable i i i understand i mean you you call her every name in the book no i don't i don't call her every name in the book actually well you must have a different book than i do what does what does she say to you what does she call you oh i got a bleeper oh okay i've been called everything from a [ __ ] to the word to idiot freaking [ __ ] stupid lazy selfish um the latest thing was i've been in since i got diagnosed with cancer it's not like i like call you at all like it's not like i'm like oh mom every single day blah blah no mom it's like rarely ever it's just like everyone you're mad you say things you don't mean and it's like i don't need to learn how to control it that's it it's not like you mean it you love mom i know you it's not that you know those things you have to deal with um and i i and if you fail to do so then let me now speak to you not just as a general physician but as a medical director of a child protective services a department of child and family service whatever it's called around the country what happens in these situations i mean the bottom line is you have to understand that you can have this baby it'll come out of your body but you may never hold it and that doesn't mean that goes to them because any child welfare agency that gets involved is going to see them as as accomplices just like she is so there's no relative in their right mind here who has good judgment who's made any decisions to protect that child so they're not inclined to give that baby to them i know you think you have a second part of your head saying well i'll give custody to my mother like you came out and said earlier that's not your choice that's going to be the government's choice and they have not demonstrated good decision making so none of them would be eligible at this point until everybody gets their act together you have three months to do it i would definitely get on that and i'm trying i'm trying to derail all of that there's a term called mandated reporter there are certain people in our society that are mandated by law to report abuse and neglect and endangerment of a child i'm one of those people he is one of those people she is one of those people one two three are all mandated reporters we have no but under the law to report what's going on here unless you do something dramatically to turn this around i am going to offer you an opportunity and i'm going to offer you an opportunity both of you opportunities to go in to dual diagnosis treatment programs that are going to help you with drugs and medical supervision and detoxification and help you with this baby and figure out where things are and what's going on ben levinson stand up if you would ben introduce serious your problem is and how it's hurting your baby and we're here for the baby the baby can't afford that one time one is one time too many for that baby you may never get to know that baby you know what i'm never using again ever i said i agree and i will i'm like have already made the decision we both did actually you agree you're going with ben no what um listen we both what i'm just you can say yes or you can say no i just don't want to be far away from me i'm i'm offering this to you and i would very much recommend that you grab on with both hands and you do this for you and you do heart and what i want to say is that you know the attachment disorder that you have the anxiety that you have the medic you're medicating really that that disorder you have inside and so all i can say is that it's a gift that you have any willingness i'd really like to support you in the transformation of self i just wonder how long the treatment is i'm and i'm willing to go i just want to know how long it is probably about a year a year 90 days minimum to about a year it takes a while to change our behaviors and our systems inside the fact that this is so embarrassing so public like i i really not gonna do anything ever again but i don't want to be away from my frickin life for a year it's not necessary like a 30-day program whatever like i i don't understand why it has to be so drastic i don't you have a drastic addiction i think we should both learn more about you want me to be gone for a year honestly would you love that okay let me let me fill in some blanks here 90 days is fine not a year i think um i think you're looking at probably a minimum of 90 days and i think that decision will have to be made between you and them at the time and it's this isn't an incarceration i mean you can leave after two days if you want to and i'm not going to chase you i'm offering you a gift and you you will take it or you won't and this is a a wonderful place and i have every belief that you're an intelligent young woman and i think you and these folks once you get there will come to a mutual decision about what you need to do and what you don't need to do you may never go back to the place that you have all these triggers for drugs and drugs connections and all of that that may be your choice ultimately but right now you i am offering you the opportunity to go there velvet is saying this is a minimum of 90 days it could be much longer but you understand you're not being locked away you can leave any time you want to leave yeah but i'm in california like what am i going professionals are all expert in exactly what you need and sarah we have a lot of work to do this is an awesome day in your life i know it's really uncomfortable but you know what it's also rather beautiful let's take a journey sarah listen i'm real uncomfortable uh begging somebody to save their own life no no my answer is like yes but i just want to know more you'll know you'll know more once you get there well i guess so and if you don't like it then you can leave but do know when you leave i am calling the police and i would too if i were you i have to i don't have any choice i have to
