today I'm gonna tell you everything you need to know about Doc Martens yay another Doc's video hey pals I'm Jen and it's no secret that I freaking love doc Mons at this point I don't know actually how many I have in my room right now but there's a lot so I thought I would do another little joke mom's video for you today and kind of give you an idea of everything you need to know before owning a pair or if you already own a pair then this will just help with everything you have questions on so yes I'm gonna go into everything from breaking them in cleaning them sizing making them fit better just like everything you need to know and hopefully you'll have all your questions asked asked acid but if there's something that I forget to say in this video feel free to ask me in the comments below and I will help you up also if you hadn't noticed I look a little bit different if you hadn't seen my last video I firstly cut my hair short and then I dyed it pink and had a bit of a glow up so I don't look like a bit of a head anymore so here we go I look a little different a little bit more alternative than usual so yeah let me know what you think of my look but enough random chitchat let's get into the video and if you haven't already and you love dope mons please subscribe and yeah go come on it's time first up sizing that is probably the most asked question I have all the time on my dog mountains video what size do I need for my dog Mons basically you should go try someone in the store yes they do different from different styles and I will give you my experience with the ones that I have but I think you should try them on in store if you can so for me the drop ones that I get I am usually a size 9 Australian women's true and with the Docklands I basically go down to a size 8 Australian women shoe which equals a UK 6 so all of my doc Mons are pretty much in UK 6 except a couple so I'll go through them quickly so with the 1460 which is the regular don't Mon true that you'll find the most classic type I do tend to wear a UK 6 and these they are a little big on me I do wear my orthotics in it sorry it looks so gross I've had them for years but this is just an orthotics because my feet are really flat but it does fill up the shoe a little bit more if I didn't wear that in here these would be massive on me with the Jayden's I find that these fit a lot tighter I don't wear an orthotic some these at all I don't even wear an inner sole or anything they are very narrow compared to the other shoes and definitely fit better for like a female I guess but yeah just know these are a narrow shoe and I got uk6 and these with the regular 1460 ones I find that they are pretty big on me too I put just like an inner sole from some of my sports shoes in this one and yeah then it tends to fit a bit better but I do find the opening at the top is pretty wide and sometimes my feet can slide out so they are a big issue I also have the 1460 ones in the women's shoe which I also have a new UK six and I find that these are really tight and I had to take the inner soles out of these ones the ones that comes with the dog one sir they are a tight shoe and they took forever to wear in and again with the 1461 vegan shoes these are so so narrow and tight I feel like there are smaller fit and everything I never wear them because they're too tight so yeah just know that these are a small fits then with the Polly's I find that these just fit you know perfectly true to size I sometimes might put a little in a soul in depending on what socks I'm wearing how thick they are but these fit pretty true to size for me with my dog Mons going down the size so these are a very comfortable shoe and I've had no problems with these with these Chelsea quads I find that they are super really easy to wear they are just my normal dog line size they're not too tight not too small and yeah I don't have to do anything with these with the 1460 Pascal's I find that these are a narrow shoe definitely better for a female I don't actually like the top of these because they go too tight but yeah these are very good if you've got skinny feet the bet I find a really bigger my feet so you've got like a sports shoe in a soul in that I have to have them the tightest they can possibly go because of my skinny feet and I find that they're pretty big on me but my toes do go to the end so they're quite a wide shoe and then with my Clarissa sandals these are different I got a UK 5 for these which is a size down from my usual Doc Martens size and they fit pretty good my toes do go right to the end but they fill up all the sides really well I found that I see a lot of photos of people wearing their sandals and that's just the way too big on them so I do recommend sizing down on these but do you try them on so that's the sizing of all my Doc Martens basically all around the UK 6 my kind of advice to you is definitely try them on but if you have small skinnier feet like you're a female I would probably size down if you've never tried dog bones before than your normal size but it's probably safer to just go with your regular size and there's ways to make them fit better if they don't fit as you can see because I kind of altered all of them to make them fit the best for me and I'll go into the altering at the end of the video next is where do you buy doc buttons well you can buy them from any store they have been going on from price a lot in the last couple of years when I bought my first pair which I don't even have here with me anymore because they rest in peace I got them for about a hundred and forty Australian dollars and they were the Napa ones and so they were kind of more of a premium doc Manju because they were comfier that was like a long time ago so now like around eight years later they are around probably over $200 so the pricing has gone up a lot I find that that is a ridiculous amount of money and I've never spent that much on Doc Martens so where I try to buy them is from depop or secondhand try thrift them Facebook marketplace anything like that and you can find you basically new documents on there so that's what I'd suggest I've also got a whole video about how to deep up in second-hand shop don't mons which I'll link somewhere up here so how do you know if you don't want ins a fake or real basically I'm gonna hopefully help you know by any fake ones the first thing you have to look out for is to make sure it has this tag here and it's normally about this kind of length and says air wear and it also says with bouncing Souls on the back you also have to look out for this yellow stitching it's the signature yellow stitching although some of the boots do have different colored stitching but most of the time the originals have yellow you got to look out for on the inside it will have this size guide here and it will normally say doc marten and style where it's made and the sizing and all the different kinds of sizing methods so yeah that is what you look out for also look out for I don't know if you can see it in this one but this Doc Martens symbol on the inside and also on the bottom oh wait these are really sandy I'll get another one they have this on the bottom here so yeah it just kind of says doc mine's air-cushion sole it's stamped in the bottom with the Jayden's they will have this kind of bottom on the bottom if that makes sense and then the others will all have this pattern on the bottom so yes some of them also mainly say the original can you see that the original on the bottom you don't look at my nails by disgusting but the made in England ones on the bottom will also say made in England and all the vegan ones will have a tag that's this color so it's kind of more of a Goldy color I feel like it's pretty obvious when I see ones that are not actual diamonds but I've been looking at them for the last like 10 15 years so I have a good idea of what to look for so if you're confused just feel free to message me on Instagram and I'll be able to help you and just in case you're wondering the difference in the soles basically there's an original sole which is this thin one then you can get the BEC sole which is a little bit thicker than that and then it goes up to the Jade in Seoul which is like both of those two together we're really big so obviously there's other different types as well but these are the main three that you'll see cut the shops and yeah and if you're wondering what my favorite shoe is it's the Jaden so that's the one that I would get if I could only have one pair next up is the almighty question how do you break in Doc Martens now there's many different methods I just tend to tough it out for a couple of weeks and end up with blisters but it really depends on the shoes that you buy most of time I will just wear them around the house just kind of stretch them out kind of move your feet around in them and I will wear really thick socks sorry these are kind of dirty but this is an example of the socks that I like to wear underneath brand new Doc Martens so just like thick tennis socks and they don't move around on my feet they just kind of stay in place I find if you use socks that kind of move around a lot you're going to get a blister so yeah that's what I do first if I feel after wearing them for a while that I'm getting a blister then I will put some band-aids on in that area hopefully before the blister forms and that should work pretty good and the type of band-aids you want to use are ones that don't really catch on the shoe as well so you want to make it like as streamline as possible so yeah that's pretty much what I do I walk around the house and then I'll go out a little bit out in the daytime and do a little bit of walking see if they're gonna work and then just slowly and gradually get them to a point where you can wear them all day but I think my feet have kind of just got used to breaking in Doc's because they don't hurt as much anymore so that's good but this will obviously just depend on like your feet and like how they fit in the shoes you have to make sure the doc ones fit all right or else you're definitely going to get blisters your whole time you might not ever be able to break them in which is the case that I'm having with these ones so it's too tight and I just can never get them to wear it so yes you kind of need to make sure you get the right size so it will work out another thing you can do is you can and massage the docs so if they kind of really stiff and everything you can get the Doc Martens Wonder balm or anything like that and kind of massage it in and make them softer if you try and make the leather softer it should be able to break in a bit easier and also you can stretch them out by putting in a bunch of newspaper or something inside the shoe overnight and it should stretch it out a little bit more so hopefully that would work and also just make sure they fit right lace them up exactly how you need them although if you're finding you're getting blisters at the top of your foot you can just lace them up to around four eyelets up and that should be able to help you kind of wear them in a bit at the start they also are a whole bunch of other methods but I really don't want to suggest things that are going to wreck your shoes so I think the best thing to do is just wear them and make them fit perfectly to your feet if you speed up the process great but you might also wreckage here sir try to just wear them in and wear thick socks and hopefully it'll work out for you but again I really depends on the duct lines that you get some are softer some are harder I found I didn't even have to break these in at all these ones gave me a few blisters on the back but nothing crazy these ones had no break-in time at all because they are so soft so if you're scared of breaking in just get some soft ones or just go for some second-hand Doc's they should be wroking in already and yeah hopefully that helps you out next up is cleaning and honestly I don't clean my dogs too often I like the look of them being dirty but yeah I will clean some dogs for you right now but basically the idea is all you have to do is kind of wipe off the dirt get them a bit cleaner and then you can add some leather protectant to them and like leather conditioner and leave them outside to dry and they should be good to go although each pair is kind of different these ones I just kind of wiped down with some soapy water and they just clean right off because they're kind of more of a finely kind of material these ones really soak in the leather conditioner so they will change color when I clean and yeah the rest of them pretty much do that same process it's not very hard to clean your docks but if you want it really professional you could also get some like black polish if you've got black docks and you got scuffs and you can polish over them to make them more of a black color I can't really show you that example because all of my black docks are fine right now I don't really need to polish them so I won't do that but yeah I'll quickly show you how I clean them right now now the first thing you want to do is remove the shoelaces they can get pretty dirty so you just take them out and put them in some soapy water if your docks end up getting really dirty and wet they may end up smelling so I'd suggest putting some odor-eaters inside them for about 24 to 48 hours and now we'll get the smell away but probably do this before you clean them now for cleaning the shoes I like to use a toothbrush to scrub them down and then you can use either some detergent or I like to use a single Jeff which I think it's for cleaning ovens just to get all the dirt off these shoes but you want to be careful to only use just a tiny little bit then you want to scrub all over the shoes nice and evenly so you can get all the dirt off although this really depends on the type of dog that I'm cleaning if I'm just cleaning my Brown docks I tend to just use water on those but for these ones I will use the detergent once they're all dry I tend to just get a tea towel and get off all the excess water and then I let them dry outside now I didn't have time to do that so yeah let's just imagine that I did that and then I like to add a lovely conditioner now the one that I'm using here is dubbin which is just the stuff I found around my house you can also get the doc mud wonder balm or whatever product you want to use I just use this because it's around the house but yeah use this I normally use a old cloth and I just wipe it all around my shoes until it's evenly spread and the leather just soaks that right in then once I've done you can lace them up and good to go so that's how I clean them I might do a whole video where I clean all of them would you be interested in seeing me clean every single one of my Doc Martens now this next step is probably a life-saving tip if you have Doc Martens and they fit right honestly they never feel right for me so yeah there's ways to make them fit perfectly and you'll wear them all the time and they will look great so here is how I kind of make them fit better I kind of touched on it a bit in the beginning what you can do if they are too big is as I said you can add an inner sole in them and it should make them around half a size almost a size smaller so they fit a bit tighter I do this because my feet are too skinny for docklands and they're quite a wide shoe so you can add your own kind of inner soul in there and honestly these Bethany's are super hard on the sole on my feet and most of the top ones are kind of tough on the bottom so if you add a soft in a salt it will also make it comfier now that only works if I do bagel width wise and if they are too big length wise what you can do is you can add some stuff in the front I find that I kind of add a lot of stuff in the front here because I'm scared of how they wrinkle when I'm stepping so I put some stuff in the front and I kind of fill it up a little bit so what I've put in the front of these ones are just some foam and that sometimes comes in the box with top ones some foam or you can find it around the house but I've added this in the front of the shoe just to kind of fill it up a little bit and make it fit a bit better obviously these are really professional techniques adding foam in here but yeah hopefully that house now if this is the opposite for you and your dog Minds fit too tight if you have the originals you can take out the inner sole that comes in the shoe I don't have one for examples but these shoes were way too tight for me so I took out the inner soles and they fit a little bit better so you can try to do that and they should fit around half a size bigger hopefully but it won't help too much with the length and then if your feet are hitting the end of the shoes here I suggest just selling them and getting a new pair because you can't really do too much about that now if you got sandals and they don't fit right well your feet fit but your feet are exactly go to the end of the shoe what you can do is you can get some foam off some and just anything that you want to put in the back of the shoe and you can just put it in the back there like so and you can get some tape and tape it in I've done this to both of my dog man sandals because one of my feet is actually a tiny bit shorter than the other one and it's very noticeable in these sandals so I get some stuff stick you to the back of the sandal and I'm good to go so it's kind of a weird hack but I do that just so that they visually look a bit better but yeah let me know any hacks that you've come up with in the comments below so that's basically all the tips that I have for the video let me know if you have any questions below I'll make this into kind of a Q&A kind of style in the comments because there's obviously so many questions that you can ask about dog on sir yeah I'm an open book and if you want to know any tips on how to style dog buns or anything like that I got so many videos on my channel about how to start up month and yeah I plan to do a little threat flip soon on a pair and maybe even turn some into roll escapes like this video if you want me to turn some into rollerskates because I may do it not that I know how to roller-skate at all but yeah I hope this was helpful I know it can be tough getting a new pair of coupons knowing exactly what you want to get how to break them in just everything you need in our sir I heard this helped but anyway I have been Jen if you haven't already please subscribe and until next time keep watering [Music]
