leader of the underdogs he just turned 50 on Wednesday he is victorious in Super Bowl 52 on Sunday Doug Peterson congratulations thank you guys so much it's a great feeling hats off to our fans our team organization what a way to finish our season all right let's start with the 4th down call in your own territory still had plenty of time could have punted it away what's your thinking I'm giving the ball back to that guy on the other sideline I had I had to consider that because you know we hadn't really slowed them down you know from our defensive standpoint so I just knew that if we were gonna win this football game I got to take a couple chances and that was one of the chances that we took coach let me tell you some men I'm off as a coordinator in Texas ran to Trinity Christian I throw that in but you don't understand how proud being a former player to another former player at your position what you did tonight 538 yards who is 10 for 16 no third downs against the New England Patriots coach you dialed it up I mean your play calling your timing was extraordinarily wonderful man well I appreciate that you know and in the last two weeks against the Vikings you know one of the beat number one third down defense in the NFL and we had a great success last week and to come out again this week and do the same thing my hat's off to to Frank Reich the offensive coordinator the staff the guys on offense that they just you know I I talked about I talked about doing doing our jobs on first and second down those third and third and manageable situations and and we were able to do that tonight and then our quarterback was able to put the ball in our playmakers hands and for us to stay on the field you started it up coach ups hold on speak it out is your Super Bowl 52 MVP Nick Foles is here did you guys discuss you starting out the game throwing the football the first play of the game [Applause] he's an aggressive play caller and we all love it the talk about the fourth the fourth down call early in the game - touchdown - Nick fan yes how long have you guys been working on that play we've had that play in probably the last three or four weeks we've been working on it every week we've kept it in you know it's fitting because the play call is called Philly special and our art guys executed tre Burton throwing it to - Nick Foles did a great job well execute a plan Wow well hold on hands when the balls in the air did you do much thinking or just react just reacting to make sure I looked it in you don't want to drop in that but I just know reacted great throw so we learned that Nick Foles is a much better receiver than Tom Brady tonight is that what we learned caught the ball how do you explain what has gone on for you over the last seven or eight weeks and now listen you might not listen to all the sports shows and the radio stuff in Philly but you know when Carson went down everybody goes that's it really so how do you explain what is transpired with you I mean I'm fortunate to be around a great coaching staff great players that we just continue to work throughout the process I mean guys got guys win if you look at our training room it's all Pearl Hall of Fame training there's a ton of adversity but everyone just kept working together kept believing kept grinding and that's what you know this team is about everyone doubted us but we just kept coming and now we're world champs hey Nick Nick that sounds good coach that sounds good this soon and you're second yeah I mean this soon you're the Superbowl champions man you know I'll go back I'll go back a year ago and and it started when we drafted Carson Wentz and then we built the pieces around Carson then we go out and we get guys like like Nick Foles and and we go out and get the Patrick Robinson's and the officer on Jeffries and Torrey Smith and all those guys LeGarrette Blount said that that's surrounded Carson and we understand Cara's a great quarterback he's gonna be a great quarterback for us but being in this position as the backup quarterback my confidence level even when Carson went down was you know what we're gonna be fine we're gonna be okay because we got a guy that's played a ton of football in this league he started in this league I have history with him we drafted him in Philadelphia and and it was just a matter of time with him being around the players and getting some timing and some rhythm when yeah we didn't look really good that's fine I'm okay with that but you know what I saw these guys in practice every week they got it done and they got it done tonight over the last two weeks well not two weeks the last two games championship game and the Super Bowl obviously you look the best how did you tweak the offense maybe a little bit to cater toward his strengths well a lot of it was just sitting down and having conversations with him and then going back and watching some of his old tape and and and seeing seeing this success that he had on film and what was really comfortable with him and what he likes and and it's okay that he may not like something that Carson likes but you know what it fits our offense it fits our personality and that's what we did and and Frank my hat's off to Frank Reich and the entire offensive staff Jeff stoutly for the run game and the rpoS and the things that got us in this position and then ultimately winning this football game Mick were you really close to walking away quitting two years ago were you close to quitting yeah I mean in my heart it was probably a hundred percent and it was you know it's a tough six months I went through a lot my wife was there every step of the way my faith was tested but I just kept leaning on the Lord kept praying you know it was a journey that we all go through you know Sharon this is like people shouldn't be afraid to feel that and you know inside them because I feel like everyone goes through that moment and we we're so blessed to play this game but it eventually comes to an end and at that time I would not be the man the person I am today without have gone going through that and then it just makes this moment like you're just grateful and blessed to be in this moment did you lose your love for the game yeah that was it or do you don't love this game it's hard to do so when you don't have your joy I grew up in Texas play some Texas high school football talk to him baby hey that stuff's real you I touched a football the first day I was born so when the joy goes away that's a hard thing but that journey that I went on strengthen me because when I was weak I became strong and that's where you're just blessed in this moment we're humbled in this moment and grateful do you think it helped you that your coach with all due respect was a career backup in terms of preparing you the minute you're thrown in there in week 15 just to make sure hey we don't miss a step I mean this guy's a stud I mean he's had a long time you still throw it he can still do it but just I think the most important thing was just being around him Doug didn't Doug drafted me he came working out of Westlake High School he was one of the only people that believed in me and he hasn't changed as a head coach he just his role is just larger but he's still the same person so all I did was simply just fall just watch him watch him live watch how he is he's a man of character we all respond to that and you know to be in this mode is it's a real identity and that's what created the identity of the football team and I'm grateful to have played for this man I'm grateful to have one world championship with this man all right I got two quick things for you you started 17 games in your career do you remember who your last win came against Patriots Bill Belichick and the Patriots congratulations we'll give you if you ball you get the call prime hold that up so that the MVP gets ahold of that team and the coach as well and then coach you finish every meeting by saying let's go get what I scream all right happy birthday so here you go enjoy it might be it might be chocolate soup at this point warm woman here you go by the way we know that your buddy Brett Favre's spoke to the Eagles yesterday get the team ready here's a little bit of a tweet so proud of my friend Doug Peterson and the performances Eagles show tonight Doug called a great game and his team was pure class congratulations on the Lombardi I appreciate that I've you know those are some notes of great memories he and I had a chance to put being two of these Super Bowls in and my hat's off for him for taking time and spending some time with our guys yesterday seeing a deer blind near you I guess exactly Peterson what I'm talking about Nick Foles congratulations guys congratulations there's your Super Bowl champion Eagles the head coach Doug Peterson and in Super Bowl 50 to MVP Nick Foles
