in this episode were very excited to be teaming up with diesel tech magazine they've brought us a bone stock 1995 dodge cummins truck and they brought it to us hoping to get a few more horsepower let's see what we can do we decided to install one of our complete fuel packages for this particular build we're going to use our 400 horsepower fuel package what that gives you is all the components needed on the fueling side to achieve four horsepower now this includes our Oh five five delivery valves which are a modest increase a nice towing delivery valve govenor Springs so you can wrap out the RPM a little bit higher it includes seven by nine injectors what that means when you hear these numbers there are seven holes in the injector tip and each hole is nine thousand of an inch in diameter so if you see injectors 5 by 12 7 by 9 6 by 13 that's what those mean also in this truck we're going to increase injection timing a lot of people think this is a very difficult highly technical process it's not terribly difficult we supply this degree will and it's actually quite simple to do finally we're gonna top it off with our AFC Live this is gonna give him complete control of his fuel he can turn the fuel up turn it down he'll be able to dial in as a GT for whatever trailer he's towing with this he'll have total control over his fuel make a driving his truck real easy real fun with all these power upgrades it's a good idea to support those with some other modifications first and foremost is we're gonna put some gauges in we want to be able to monitor our GT you want too much boost remain concealed a we have a good set of s Pro gauges also we're gonna want to upgrade our clutch the stock clutch is not gonna handle this power for a very long time so we're gonna put in a South Bend clutch rated for about 485 horsepower also we're gonna run a full mbrp 4 inch exhaust that'll make this thing breathe real good with all these modifications we expect the power to go up dramatically so we have just finished installing the s Pro gauges we now have an e GT gauge and a boost gauge the rest of that truck is bone stock I want to see what this thing does without any modifications so we have a good baseline to compare to with our future upgrades we're going to run this from 1500 rpm to about 2400 rpm with the stock truck they're not going to make any power beyond that they start to be fuel and so we're just gonna run that from 5400 rpm and see what kind of power this makes you can watch boost the GT and see the bone stock truck will actually do it's arable about that part of me one 46.83 83 points I'm okay so this truck makes 146 horsepower infinity foot-pounds of torque to the tire without any correction at all Wow Wow I know I mean it's been such a long time slip in it stock drug oh this is the gutless man this they are known for being slow stock to be fair though honestly this truck came stock that's rated 175 horse part of the crank so to get 146 to the ground really is about what we'd expect but uh yeah we got some room for improvement here let's get some parts on this thing the first thing we're going to do today is install the AFC life the hardest part of the entire install is probably running the lines for the firewall but for most people that already have gauges and installs pretty quickly now since we had the AFC out we are going to do the modifications we need to to add the extra fueling and then we'll throw our back on the truck and it's all ready to go back into the truck before we put the ahc housing back on we need to remove the fuel plate goodbye fuel plates fuel plate out this is ready to go back on that's what we just finished the installation of the modified AFC housing we're ready to install the AFC live in the cap we'll go ahead and do that now we're gonna start our installation of the HD live burning these lines through the firewall but the AAC life does is gives us complete control of the fueling of the engine inside the cab okay we got all ready FC live all installed all that's left just to hook up the lines the one with the white tape goes to the head the one that has no tape goes to the AFC housing next we're going to install delivery valves injectors and bump the timing this combination will allow us to pick up probably another 100 horsepower with the different injectors that we have in a different driller valves and silver valves allow more fuel to get to the injector and of course an injector with bigger holes in the nozzle allow more fuel to get into the engine bumping the timing allows more time for that fuel to burn inside the combustion chamber allowing you to decrease eg T's and pick up horsepower and fuel economy we're bumping the timing from 12 and 1/2 degrees to 18 degrees so only a 6 degree bump now since we have the fuel package installed we're ready to install the new clutch this is a Southbank clutch this clutch is capable of supporting 425 horsepower which is more horsepower than the factory to revoke and support for this particular build it's a great option it's crazy now if the clutch is installed we're ready to install the exhaust the exhaust is an mbrp four inch stainless steel turbo back exhaust with a muffler this exhaust will allow higher flow which will allow decrease DG T's and make a better sound now that we're done with all the modifications let's get this thing on the dyno the modifications are now done we've got the 400 horsepower fuel package installed we've got the South in clutch it's gonna hold the power but the mbrp four inch exhaust it's gonna let this thing breathe we've got our gauges installed so we can watch what happens with the added fuel we got a back load on the dyno let's see what kind of power we can get out of this thing okay we're loaded up we got the Dino parameter set now we're gonna run this up to about 2700 rpm see what kind of power makes we go 300 all right so we got it we got we just cracked 300 horsepower 300 point three exactly with torque 890 point two so huge torque again we're limited by the turbo on this thing if we went hardcore thar tuning we could probably get another 20 or 30 horsepower with this turbo but doing that kind of hurts the street fronting this the good towing characteristics so for this truck good towing 300 horsepower to the ground we've double the power runs good to be real fun truck so we have the dyno graph pulled up and what I've done is I've put both runs on the same graph this way we can easily compare the two runs let's take a look there's red lines and green lines there were both red lines represent the first run and the green lines show the second run the upper of each mean upper red is a torque and the upper green is a torque of their runs so notice this red curve how it comes flat and then rises up it's a very different shape than the torque curve on the Green Line the second run the reason for this is the stock AFC spring this is too stiff in the stock form so it keeps the fuel from advancing until too much boost is needed so it really really slows down a boost curve and that slows down your torque a simple you know spring change could make this much more similar in appearance to this one but even so the torque numbers is much lower I mean this was 890 foot-pounds just 383 foot-pounds so a huge difference in torque huge difference in power the horsepower is like you know up here 146 horsepower up here and we hit got our power an earlier 300 horsepower down here so the power comes in much earlier and it's quite a bit greater so this is one of the great things about a 12 out with some minor feeling upgrades we can literally double the horsepower and triple the torque first ramen headers for starters one 46.8 and torque was 380 3.7 Marc Garneau 343 and torque is 890 point it's gonna pull this triggers a lot better this truck is gonna work great for Dean he's gonna be able to pull his trailers up the hill without losing a bunch of speed this is an entire different truck he's gonna get an increase in fuel economy that's gonna be a real fun truck for him to drive around so much
