Door County Fish Boil at Pelletier's Restaurant - Fish Creek, Wisconsin

are you looking for dinner and a show with a fiery  fidelity then you should check out a fishboil   we were staying in door county wisconsin near fish  creek fish creek is about a 75-minute drive north   of the city of green bay we heard pelletiers has  a good fish boil in the area and decided to give   it a shot we are here at pelletiers in fish  creek about to enjoy our very first fish boil once inside we grabbed a bottle of local cider  from the bar and headed to the area behind the   restaurant there you see a nice sitting area  overlooking a beautiful landscape and the pot   where the magic happens there we chatted with  the owner a bit my name is matthew peterson   i took over pelletiers from the original owner  charlie pelletier which started in 1970 and he   was looking to retire in 2002 so uh ever since  then i've been here usually boil seven nights a   week from mother's day until the end of october  just a step back a little bit farther my father   took over the viking fish boil which is located  in ellison bay the viking is actually the oldest   commercial fish boil which was started in the mid  50s by a gentleman by the name of lawrence wickman   my father purchased that restaurant in 1984  so that's the first year i started boiling   it was quite relaxing watching the cook in  all it took under an hour we should also   mention they have great breakfast and lunch  options in the morning until mid-afternoon here's our fish if you'd like to come on over  and take a look at them before we put them in   the kettle fishermen go out on the bay in the lake  i believe right now they're all of them are out on   the bay side they have zones set up throughout  the bay in the lake that they can only pull a   certain amount of their quota out of each and  every one of those zones so they don't over fish baby red potatoes i added those  texas sweet boiling onions 35 gallons of water and 10 pounds of salt i mentioned these are all lake michigan whitefish  you can basically boil any type we do have private   parties lake trout lake trout and salmon  are very popular along with the whitefish another pinch of salt just get a hint of that in the potatoes it actually helps to firm up the fish   and then it will increase boiling temperature so  that will assist in the cooking process as well all right one minute until the boil over are you gonna go ring the bell quick boil over enjoy your fish boil thank you a standard dinner  includes baby red potatoes with melted butter   homemade coleslaw honey white and bavarian rye  bread a drink and of course a slice of door   county cherry pie well jeanine how did you  enjoy the meal it was delicious i'm stuffed   it's a little bit of work you  gotta dig out the bones and and   it takes a little bit of doings but it was so  good and we have cherry pie to go home with   after the meal we had to check out the cabin that  was on site the thorpe cabin was built in 1849   the year after wisconsin gained statehood asa  thorpe a new york cooper by trade would become   known as the founder of fish creek thorpe created  a pier a warehouse and a saw mill that supplied   ships and residents a short walk or drive down  the street and you can check out sunset beach   it was a great way to cap off the evening  it appears a genius named this beach if you would like to see more gems of the midwest  please like and subscribe thanks for watching
