yes it can be difficult to get a check Rod scheduled but you don't have to make it more difficult on yourself here are the things not to do when scheduling a check ride with a [Music] DPE as an instructor I talk to a lot of dpes and I wanted to find out what are their pain points when it comes to scheduling check rides for applicants and here are the top 10 pet peeves when scheduling a check ride number one I can't believe that I even have to say this but they all said applicants are rude to them no one wants to deal with somebody with a sour attitude especially a busy examiner if you're going to interact with an examiner be polite dpes are there to evaluate your skills and hopefully issue you a new rating or certificate getting off on the right foot to start with that will certainly set the stage for a successful check ride okay number two The Power of communication if you reach out to an examiner through email text or whatever and they respond to you please don't ghost them be timely in your response back to them if they actually have time to respond to you so many of the examiners said they'll immediately reply to an applicant and then it's crickets by replying in a tily manner it shows that you're committed to this process and if you like this kind of content I'd appreciate it if you go do a touch and go on the like And subscribe button thank you okay number three too little detail when initially communicating with an examiner so many the dpes I talked to said they'll get a random text from someone that they don't know that just says hey can I get a check ride on that initial call up give them the information that they need that information would be your name your ftn number your flight school or where you're training perhaps your cfi's name the type of airplane you're going to be in and what's your time frame they'd also like to know if there's any special circumstances like if they all to check ride and you have that 60-day window that you need to hit the more detail you can give them during your initial communication that'll cut down on the back and forth and that brings us to number four more about communication you need to find out what style of communication The Examiner you're going to use prefers some like text some some like phone calls some like emails ask around find out what they like and go with that you the fifth pet peeve of the examiners was poor spelling and grammar I said this in another video I'm not the spelling and grammar police but the examiners when they get a text or email that is a giant run out sentence or poorly spelled it just doesn't show the attention to detail that a pilot should have okay we're halfway through the list I'd love to know what are some other things that you avoid when scheduling a check ride let me know in the comments below number six booking a check ride with multiple examiners so let's say you want to get your private certificate and you scheduled that private exam with three different examiners some of the examiners I spoke with didn't have a problem with this and some were adamantly against it the dpes that were for it and the dpes were against it they both did share a common uh response to that happening if you're going to do it you have to cancel the dpes that you're not going to use in a timely manner if you wait till the last minute not only is that unprofessional but you're taking away a slot from another applicant it's tough to get a check right so don't do this to your fellow Pilots okay that's a good segue into number seven cancellations life happens emergencies happen the examiners know that and they understand that however cancelling last minute should be Last Resort and speaking of time that brings us to number eight you need to respect that their time many of these examiners are airline pilots or corporate Pilots or working serving in the military if you don't hear back immediately don't be demanding and follow up with the text after text after text give give them some time to respond just be patient okay the last two pet beefs they're really important number nine have a realistic expectation that you are ready for your check ride before you schedule it if you schedule your check Ride 3 months from now all the dpes said that almost never works out many of them f it that you schedule your check Rod when you're actually ready they have applicants call them or text them all the time and say hey can I get a check ride in two weeks and the DP says well I got a cancellation for three days are you ready almost every time the applicant is like no I need more time and lastly number 10 if you have any issues scheduling with an examiner or having an issue with an exam or don't blast them on social media they're online too and they're going to find out that's going to hurt your reputation just keep it professional even if you do everything properly and you get to the check rod and you don't pass it's not the end of the world I have a video here why failing a check Rod can actually be the best thing that ever happens to you say flying everyone
