okay so i know this video is probably not going to be popular with a lot of people but hi everybody i'm here to tell you that domain authority is dead forget domain authority and long live the age of online presence management today i'm going to talk to you about why domain authority is dead and tell you why i'm going to tell you about the links and the online presence that you need to create if you want to succeed in search engine optimization but not only that if you want to create the media placements that your consumer your customer wants to see let's go ahead and dive into it before you get started make sure to click the notification bell and make sure to subscribe so that you can get more videos like this in the future okay so first let me tell you just a little bit about domain authority what is domain authority well domain authority is a score that's on a lot of different types of link evaluation sites that tells you how high is the authority of this domain okay and generally it's from the moz but other sites that that evaluate links will also give you a score for that now for me i think if you're focusing on domain authority you've got a major issue and by the end of this video i'm going to tell you why you shouldn't be focusing on it i'm going to tell you what you should be focusing on and how you're going to have the most success by doing it that way so first a lot of the sites that have high domain authority from a lot of these third-party evaluation sites they also might have really high spam scores what does that mean well that means that they've got a ton of other bad websites linking to them right in addition to that they might have bad rankings in google and think about that for a second i've personally only tried to get placements right in a completely white hat way from websites that are ranking well ranking really really well growing in their rankings because that's a signal to me that google likes this website so that's a really good thing to look for not the only thing to look for but it's important thing to look for and a lot of these big sites they have tons of random content right they're not very niche but then out of all this out of these three things here's here's the main reason i feel like if you're focusing on domain authority you're not focusing on the customer and that's what you need to do jeff bezos said the reason amazon has been so successful is because they focus on the customer they put the customer first they listen to the customer so listen to your customer if you went to your customer right now and you said hey customer where would you find us online where did you find us online where would you expect to see a credible business in our niche online i believe this is what they would say and i have just a ton of experience in this actually wrote a book on this at one point called digital influencer which talks about all the different places that you need to be online to influence your customers influence a prospect but here's your website right here okay if you want to get somebody to come to your website one of the first places you want people to find you are review sites okay so here's number one now these are review sites but not just general big review sites review sites in your niche right so if you put in keyword reviews or keyword companies you want to make sure that you're showing up there so that's one of the first things that you want to do is make sure that you're showing up on review sites and getting links from review sites also number two you want to be listed on all the major directories and social media profiles google crawls these review sites they pass authority to you here they crawl all the major directories the biggest ones out there and they pass page authority to you here they crawl all the major social profiles they see that you've got you know not only the basic stuff but that extended 20 social media profiles out there they also like to see that so now you've got three different types of silos of links coming into your website also are ones that your customer would want to see you on to see if you're credible next i'm not saying that large media placements are bad it's great if you can get large media placements and if you can get picked up by getting quotes inside of major major sites but that shouldn't be your entire backlink profile because there's probably something not right going on there if you've got a hundred you know placements from major sites but you're not in these other areas so that should be natural that should come in from great press that you've created because you've done something awesome you've made a great story you know you've done something great you've created an industry study it's been picked up you've been quoted things like that and then you also want to show up on the niche industry sites so if you create a map of all of the people that you support right if you create a map of all the people that support you if you create a map of everybody in the industry you know your industry right who are the top 50 websites in your industry those are the type of websites that are really incredibly incredibly powerful and in many cases they've got much much lower domain authority than some of these other areas and large national media sites even in some cases so you want to make sure that you're getting niche industry sites to link to you and you're doing that in a responsible way and finally you want to be creating content that's getting social media shares and content that is generating a buzz and all of this is really around one thing i talked about putting the focus on the customer but what happens if you put the focus on the customer well that all results in one major chain reaction that google absolutely loves not only finding you in all these important places online but in addition to that what does that say brand growing the size of your brand google loves to see brand traffic growing they love to see searches growing they love to see people finding you on these places where the customer would actually look for you on the web going back to the web and doing a search for your brand name and coming in to your website and seeing the size of your brand search traffic go up on a consistent basis and that's why it's not just about links it's not just about domain authority it's about great media building a great media presence a great media placement and then growing the size of that brand and then even taking that a step further and amplifying that through a 360 marketing campaign throughout all the other channels so that more and more people are consistently searching for you throughout time so domain authority is it important is it a metric that you should be looking at i don't think so what you should be looking at is where are all the places that your customer would want to find you online what are all the places that would influence your customer that they would really really care about right what is the map of everywhere your customer would want to find you online and make sure you get listed there so that you can
