Highly recommend the podcast "Dolly Parton's America" if you're interested in learning more. The episode "Dollitics" spends a bunch of time on this song, and her politics (or lack there of) in general.

Did anyone else ever notice how a lot of jobs just don't need to be done? But it's basically taboo to say that actually, we could all just work less and have the same standard of living. You read all the time about how people need to work more, and especially if you're poor the solution is always more work. I think the opposite - everyone would be better off if we just admitted we could work less.
If we did away with all the unnecessary middle managers and Vice Presidents of Creative Development, we could easily have a 15-20 hour work week.
Dolly Parton is just so talented....., great song
There's an episode of The Orville (a scfi space comedy adventure) that brings up 9 to 5. It's really good in my opinion.

in 2009 my friend and I went to Ireland and this song played in 3 of the 4 restaurants/bars we went to in one night. at first we were shocked but they we loved it as well.
