hi everyone welcome to our channel today we have a really fun diy for christmas time using items from the dollar tree so we are going to make these lighted gifts they are two different sizes here the ones that i made and all the items come from the dollar tree so let's go over the supplies list first so i did use these 20 count mini lights from walmart for a dollar 88 because i wanted the white strand of lights um you can use the ones from dollar tree with the green cord that's fine we'll need some shelf liner it comes in four different colors from the dollar tree and you'll need some of their cooling racks we're also going to use some floral wire and then some wired ribbon so i'm going to use the buffalo plaid ribbon from the dollar tree and also some of their greenery they have a bunch of little picks out and some of their poinsettia flowers i'm also going to use a pair of their wire cutters and a wrench to help bend the wire and a hot glue gun and of course a pair of scissors so let's get crafty so to create the large gift you're going to need two of the cooling racks and for the small gift it just takes one cooling rack that we cut in half so what you're going to do is you're going to make sure this one's for the larger gift here you want to make sure that these bumps that you use to set the rack down on the counter that those are facing inward so when you bend make sure that you're bending it so that those will be on the inside of the box when you do so so all you're going to do is press firmly down on the table towards the center support bar there and then just push up on the end and you're creating basically like a letter l or right angles so we're going to do this for two different cooling racks and this is going to be able to create our box so to help give it more of an angle here what you want to do is just kind of grab it with your fingers and push in right on this corner here and it really helps to make it more of a edge of the box there if not it's a little bit more rounded and then just keep pulling and adjusting on the um cooling rack until you have it where it's more of a right angle and it doesn't lean inward so see as you see here i just have to kind of push it back a little bit and then create that right ankle and now that first part is done so i do a second one and then you just line them up next to each other with those bumps facing inwards of course like i said before and then you're just going to take your floral wire take um a small piece off and you're going to just fish this around the corners and tie these um cooling racks together so i did do all four corners and then i did right in the center of the cooling racks as well so you just want to keep wrapping it around and twisting it until you get the wire um pretty tight to hold it in place and then you know once you cut the wire down go ahead and make sure you tuck in those little ends just to make sure that it's not going to poke out that when you pick up the gift or anything it's not going to poke you in the finger because you know it is just wrapped with shelf liner so it will pop right through the edges if you don't tuck those little corners in now that i have them put together on the corners at the one side i just flip it over i do the other corners and then i put some wire right in the center to hold the box together and as you can see it's really sturdy it's not going to come apart i pulled on it pretty hard and it is really stuck together there so now we've got our um first box created and now for the small cooling rack we're going to cut one of those in half and we're going to use the wire cutters and you're just going to cut right up the center so it's basically four um squares over is the center and i just cut right in the middle and you um it's a little bit difficult to cut but it's not that hard it takes a little bit of pressure with the wire cutters and of course you've got those little ends sticking out but we're going to take care of those so you're just doing the same exact process you're just going to bend these cooling racks up to make the letter l and then push those little corners together and adjust it until you get your box created and then of course using your wire tie you just want to tie it together and as you can see i just do this little x basically like you're sewing on a button almost and you do the same process all the way around to create your box and then i took the wrench and i just bend these little pieces in that i um cut that were left over and if you just kind of bend them and wiggle them slowly they'll pop off but you do want to be careful because you don't want to pull that support beam off the center of the cooling rack you just want to go really slow and they do come off quite easily now we're going to start attaching the light so you want to make sure that the first light is in the corner and that the plug comes out the side of your gift at the bottom so then just using that piece of wire you can even use pipe cleaners here if you like you're just going to start attaching the lights on the inside of the box and i made sure that my lights were facing down so that um they would be you know when i flip the box over they'll be facing up and most of the light will be directed up and out towards the edges of the box so then you just of course use your wire here and then slowly work your way around the box i kind of ended up making my way towards more of the center of the box with the lights so that the lights would be more towards the middle and a little bit more lighted than just on the bottom edge there and i just secure it with the wire all the way around and it's 20 lights so you want to make sure you have enough to go all the way around as you're doing that so make sure you stretch those out then i'm going to secure the edges of this box with the floral wire just to make it easier to put the shelf liner on so all i do is i take a long piece of floral wire and i tie them corner to corner to make an x and then i do from the centers to create a plus and it just makes this large star shape so now i have a nice um strong base there on the ends so that i can attach my shelf liners you're just going to flip the box over and do the exact same thing to the other side with the wire to create your sides now i want to double wrap this box but the shelf liner is just a little bit too small to do that so what i do first is i just cut two squares for the edges here and that will be um for the first layer on the ends of the boxes and then when i wrap the box with the shelf liner it won't show as much without the second layer so that's why i'm doing these little squares of the shelf liner for the ends of the box here so then all you're going to do is lay this on the end of the box and then start applying it with your hot glue you don't have to glue the whole entire thing on because we're going to cover this with more shelf liner so as long as the edges are attached it'll be just fine so i flip it over and i put the shelf liner on the opposite end and this is what we have so far and now we're going to take the um roller shelf liner and just get it on top of the box here and then you're basically just going to wrap it just like you would a present except we're going to go around the box twice so that we can cover up the wire and the lights you won't see those as much through the little holes in the shelf liner so once i have it lined up up i just start attaching the one end with the hot glue to hold it in place so that i can pull the shelf liner tight as i'm wrapping that around the box two times that way it doesn't slip off and i can get a nice tight surface over the edges of this box so it looks like a nicely wrapped gift so as you can see i just worked my way around and as i work my way around i just pull the shelf liner straight and keep working out the little wrinkles and things and once i get all the way around two times all i do is i attach the end with some hot glue so there's really no need to do hot glue on the whole entire box this um basically sticks to itself so you just want to glue down that edge using some hot glue and then you're going to wrap your ends just like you would a gift so as you can see it was just a little bit too short to completely wrap it twice that's why i used a little bit of extra um shelf liner on the ends it was just a tad bit too short and as you can see i have my wire for the plug sticking out the corner there so i just cut that corner with my scissors to make sure that my plug would still stick out so it was long enough on this side to completely wrap it so really you could get away with just doing that extra square of wrap on the one side and i have that all glued down and then i do glue that corner where the light is to make sure that that's going to stay or where the plug is for the lights and now the box is all wrapped and all we have to do now is decorate it we're doing the exact same thing for the large box but it does take some extra shelf liner so now i just take my ribbon on the bottom of the box and i center it and just glue that on right in the center that helps hold it down so i can smooth out the ribbon and then i just flip the box over and tie i'm sorry i just glued the first um piece all the way down you're not gonna see this part now when i do the ribbon on the opposite end i do dovetail it and then tie it so that i have these little tails that stick off of the side to give it a little bit more of a decoration so again you don't have to glue this ribbon down all the way around just the middle on the back and then when you attach it in the center just glue that down and then this will be the ribbon that i wrap around the opposite side of the box i'm just going to dovetail the ends and if you hold a lighter close to it it will seal the edges so that your ribbon won't fray over time you just find your center and start on the bottom of the box again and attach a little bit of hot glue and then center that ribbon on the bottom of the box and then just wrap it around and flip your box over and then just tie it in a little knot the way i measured the ribbon was i just wrapped it around the gift to start with or the box to make sure that i had it as long as i was going to need it to get all the way around the box with a little bit of excess for this piece here so i don't even glue this part i literally just tie it and then adjust my end so that they stick down at the bottom on the one side if you tie it tight enough it stays just fine you don't need any extra glue here now for the large gift i cut five 14 inch pieces and for the small one i cut five 12 inch pieces of wired ribbon to create our bows so then once we have our pieces cut all you want to do is glue the edges together to create loops so you're going to create five loops for each um one of your bows and once you have those all done you're just going to bunch them up all i do is i grab them in the center and pinch and then you just attach them one at a time to the next one and then i just tie it with a pipe cleaner or you can just use your floral wire either one will work so once you have it attached all the way down if you want to you can take another piece of ribbon and fold it in half and then glue it together to help hold it together and then wrap it around the center of your bow now i didn't plan on putting a flower in the center of my bow when i first started this which is why i actually did this um because i put a flower in it i ended up not seeing the center of the bow so it depends on how you decorate your gift um if you're going to need this that part of the bow or not so you just want to adjust your loops of your bow just fluff them up a little bit and arrange them so that they look the way you want them to look and once you have them all arranged you are going to attach this to the gift with some hot glue before i put the bow on i decided to put the picks on and i just added some hot glue to it and then slid it right underneath of the ribbon that i had attached earlier and then i attached the bow with the hot glue i did end up using some of those little vines with the berries and i attached that to the bow as well that was just an added accessory you don't have to put that on yours if you don't like i mean it's definitely yours to make it your own then i took a poinsettia and i just pulled it off of the stem and i glued that right to the center and i took one of the leaves that were on the stem and i glued that to the bow as well i also took some of these gold berries and added that to the gift as well because i really like the coloring together and then a few more of the berries and i added that to the center of the flower and i did the exact same decorations for both of my gifts for the two different sizes i love these so much the large one i believe cost me eight dollars and the small one was about six dollars to create so i just absolutely love these i hope you guys enjoy learning how to make these they're really simple to do and i hope you guys will make them and add those to your christmas decorations this year thank you guys so much for watching don't forget to subscribe like and share and here are some other videos from our channel you might also enjoy have
