hey there crafty friends this is misty with gleespin designs thank you so much for stopping by my channel as always if you are new here let me know down in the comments i would love to say hi and if you've been here before welcome back for today's video i have five farmhouse diys using new what i would consider farmhouse items from dollar tree and today's video is also a collaboration with the crafty quinn here on youtube and you guys it is my very first collaboration and i am so honored to be able to do that with her she has an absolutely amazing channel and you also might get to see a little bit of marcus the crafty kitty he is absolutely adorable so i will leave a link down in the description box so you can check out her video she is also doing five farmhouse diys using the new dollar tree items also make sure to stick around to the end of the video so you can get the details on how you could win the 100 amazon gift card giveaway and now let's get crafting with diy number one for this diy i'm going to be using these two chalkboard tags from dollar tree they are tied together with this little jew twine they also have tags with a white dry erase board on the front but i like the chalkboard tag for mine so i'm just going to cut the jute twine hanger off of it and then i'm going to take some painters tape and just place it down over here kind of towards the side just to where i can make a little pinstripe by taking two pieces of that painters tape and placing it next to each other once i have the painters tape down and i like the thickness of the little pinstripe i'm going to fill it in with my white rust-oleum chalk paint and then once it is completely filled in you can reveal your little stripe by peeling off the painters tape i get a lot of questions in the comments whether or not i wait for my paint to dry before i peel the painters tape off and i personally like to peel the painters tape off while my paint is still wet because i have had lots of experience peeling it off while it was dry and it will peel some of the paint off sometimes so if you peel it off before it dries you have less of that peeling off i guess you could say if you've ever used painter's tape you probably know exactly what i'm talking about so anyways i went ahead and made a larger pinstripe with the painters tape next to the smaller one and again filled it in with my right white i cannot talk today you guys it is insane white rust-oleum chalk paint and look how gorgeous that is once you peel it off and then i do one more simple little pinstripe down here at the bottom you could do as many as you would like you can make them as thick or as thin as you would like i just think this gives it such a gorgeous nice little high-end look and now you are done with that tag and i just love how simple and easy that one is to make so let's move on to the second tag which i i had an idea for the other side so that's why i painted this side but i ended up just not doing the other side so i went ahead and used this side to paint with my white rust-oleum chalk paint and i have been using the color linen white once i have the tag completely painted white and then it is completely dry i'm going to use this farmhouse fabric from dollar tree i love this fabric they do carry other farmhouse fabrics as well and they are all beautiful but this one i am absolutely obsessed with i want to use this rooster image so i found one that is closest to the edge and i used my scissors and i cut it out and as you can see on the image there is that square going all the way around well when you cut it out you want to leave a little bit of excess fabric and then you just cut it down so that again there's just a tiny bit of excess fabric over around that square and then you're going to take your fingers and start pulling at those strings that's why you want to have that little bit of excess fabric so that you have this really cool ripped effect once you pull a bunch of those strings out and it is super easy to do once i have the ripped look to my liking i just take some mod podge and i place it onto the back of the fabric and i make sure that i do cover the entire piece of the fabric and i really do try and get those end little pieces that are ripped as well then i just take my piece of fabric with a mod podge on it and i place it right on the tag in the center and i use my fingers to completely smooth it out when i smooth out my fabric i like to use my finger and just go from the center outward and kind of almost like you're stretching it and pushing it down at the same time next i'm going to use this gingham ribbon from dollar tree and i just add a little bit of hot glue up here at the top corner of the tag place the gingham ribbon onto the hot glue wrap the ribbon around to the front add some hot glue going completely across the front of the tag then wrap it around to the back add some hot glue onto the back and secure it into place and then i'm going to repeat the same steps down here at the bottom of the tag add some hot glue to the back of the tag wrap the ribbon around the front of the tag to the back of the tag and then add some hot glue secure it into place and cut off the excess now i can go ahead and glue my two tags together and i just add some hot glue to the back of the white tag and when i place it onto the black tag i do it crooked but making sure the two holes on the tags line up so that we can add our hanger and for the hanger i'm going to be using this twine hanger that i actually got off of a different dollar tree sign and it has this little plastic piece on there that when you turn it it kind of holds the string or twine from coming out so again you just push it right into the hole turn that little plastic piece and you can see it will not come back out so then i just do the same thing with the other end of the twine and turn that plastic piece so that neither ends could come out and i'm going to add a little bit of hot glue up here at the top and glue that twine down so that it has a nice little hanger once i had the hanger done i knew i needed something else up here at the top and i just had this tiny little piece of that gangnam ribbon from dollar tree left so i'm going to create a bow just by simply making the cancer awareness shape with my ribbon and then kind of pinching it in at the centers and then you can just use other ribbon twine string whatever you would like i'm going to use this i believe it's like a cotton twine and it's from dollar tree it is also white and black so i figured it would kind of go with it and you just tie it into a knot so that it secures the bow into place once the bow is nice and secure i can cut off those twine pieces and then i'm just going to pull at my loops and at my tails to make sure that they are the length and the size that i want them if you would like to dovetail your ends of the ribbon i just go ahead and fold them in half and then cut at an angle and once both of your tails are dovetailed you have this cute little bow and i just add some hot glue up here by the hanger and add my bow and this diy is done now let's take a look at how it turned out [Music] i don't know about you but i love a quick and easy diy that turns out absolutely gorgeous and speaking of it you have got to check out the crafty quinn here on youtube she makes lots of gorgeous quick and easy diys that you definitely don't want to miss as i had previously mentioned she is also doing five farmhouse diys using the new farmhouse items at dollar tree so i will leave a link down in the description box to her channel and as well to that video so once you are done here head on over to her channel by clicking on the link down in my description box to her video and you can watch five more farmhouse diys please comment on her video and let her know that i sent you and you definitely want to subscribe so you do not miss any of her new uploads and now let's move on to diy number two for this diy i started off with two of these wood rounds from dollar tree i do end up needing three of them so just go ahead and grab three all together but i did not realize that until the end so i'm just going to remove these cool hangers that i was telling you about earlier i feel like more and more of dollar tree items are actually getting this type of hanger instead of like just the knot hangers so which i'm cool with because you can reuse those as well so anyways i take some wood glue and hot glue and i'm going to add a bunch of it onto the wood round so that i can glue the two wood rounds together so that they are thicker once i have those two glued together nice and secure i'm going to fill in the holes using some of the dollar tree spackling and then i go ahead and sand it down so that it is nice and smooth i'm going to use these half wood beads that i got off of amazon they come in several different sizes i believe like six different sizes and they are a super good deal so i will leave a link down in the description box for these as well so all i'm going to do is start taking these half wood beads and you can use dollar tree wood bees and just cut them in half you guys they cut in half so easy i promise i was shocked i was literally shocked when i found out how easy those dollar tree any any beads from dollar tree really will cut in half so anyways i go ahead and i hot glue the half wood beads going all the way around the circle once i have the half wood beads going all the way around the wood round i'm going to use the faux stain technique to give this a really dark stain i used black chalk paint with some water and i just mix that together and then brush it on just like you would a normal stain and then wipe it off once you have the wood round completely stained look how absolutely gorgeous this turns out i love this faux stain technique dollar tree is now carrying these really cute farmhouse stencils and i did use the one with the chicken in my previous video and i'm also going to use it a little bit later on so i decided to go with this farm fresh stencil for this diy i just placed the stencil where i thought the center was i suggest measuring because if you go too far over it will look a little bit wonky when you spin the turntable so i just took some painters tape and placed it onto the stencil so that it doesn't move or go anywhere and then i use my brush my little foam stencil brush i love these ones and i just go ahead and use my white rust-oleum chalk paint to fill in that complete stencil and once it's completely filled in you can peel off your stencil and you have this absolutely gorgeous crisp image like these stencils work so well these farmhouse stencils and actually really any of the new stencils that i've used at dollar tree have came out so perfect let me know what you guys think of the stencils from dollar tree especially the new ones down in the comments i would love to hear your guys opinions as well i want this to have a little bit more of a weathered farmhouse look to it so i take my chippy brush and some white rust-oleum chalk paint and i do a dry brush going all along those half wood beads and then whatever paint is left in my paintbrush i also do a little bit of streaking on the inside of the wood round as well just to give it a little bit more detail and make it look a little bit more weathered as i had previously mentioned we are making a turntable and this is like going to be a turntable tray so i'm going to use this pencil holder from dollar tree this is what is going to make our tray spin because it has this little black spinny thing on the bottom that is super super easy to take off and it spins very very easily so all i do is take a little screwdriver and i just take that black piece right off and then you will no longer need that white piece all you will need is this black piece here it does have little pieces on the inside and you will also need this screw and here's where i realized it is definitely going to be it's like going to poke through so i went ahead and added a third wood round so that the screw would not poke through when we screwed it in and i just went ahead and marked where the center was i did measure and add a little mark and i just made the mark bigger here so you just place your little black piece again like i said i cannot talk today you guys place that black piece on there and then just screw that screw in and you guys that's it this thing spins and it spins great and here's a look at how this diy turned out [Music] before we move on to the next diy i have to send out a huge personal shout out and thank you to susanna crowe for the adorable comment and the donation to the buy me a coffee app i always take those donations and put it towards craft supplies so if you guys would like to do that there is a link down in the description box and again thank you so much susanna and now we are on to diy number three for this diy i had seen this at big lots for 18 and i just wanted to take a little bit of inspiration from it and make it into my own personal style so for this diy i'm going to use two of these wood boards from dollar tree and i'm actually going to make them look like they are a bunch of wood boards put together so i'm going to start off by painting them both white with my white rust-oleum chalk paint once the paint is completely dry i'm going to take this wood piece that is actually from dollar tree it was in my stash it's been there for quite a while and i liked how white it was so i'm just going to take my pencil you could also use like a ruler or paint stir stick whatever you have on hand and i just take my pencil and i make the lines so that when i'm done it will kind of look like i have six boards total once i put those two boards together once you have those lines drawn you can smudge it with your finger or whatever you would like but i wanted to try a little bit of a different technique i've i kind of just came up with it as i was sitting in my craft room trying to figure out how to make this look a little bit more like wood boards put together so i take my box knife and i'm going to score the line from my pencil and then i just take a butter knife and go along where i scored to kind of make it a little bit wider and then i'm just going to repeat those steps using the box cutter to create that line and then using the butter knife to widen it and then i'm just going to repeat again those steps on the other board as well once i had my lines done i flipped those two boards over so that i can attach them in the back and i'm just going to use some craft sticks these are like the larger ones from dollar tree and i'm just going to add some hot glue and place a bunch of these craft sticks on the back once you have those two boards nice and secure together they look really nice and i think that technique worked out really well but i'm going to go in with some black chalk paint and do a really light dry brushing just to give it a little bit of a weathered look and i go around all of the edges and then i also really lightly go along those lines that we made as well i always say in all of my videos where i do distressing if distressing is not something that you like you can definitely skip this step next you will need two of these wood crates from dollar tree and technically you only have to paint three of the sides and the inside because that we will be gluing them to that backing with the boards so go ahead and paint those three sides you can paint the bottom if you would like and paint the inside i used my white rust-oleum chalk paint and then again i go in with my chippy brush and that black chalk paint to give a little bit of distressing on the crates as well and just like i did with the lines on the board i'm also going to add a little bit of dry brushing to these creases here on the crates as well to give it a little bit more of a weathered look once you have the crates distressed to your liking i add some hot glue onto the back of both of the crates and then i'm just going to place them down at the bottom portion of the board so in the inspiration piece it had some galvanized metal on there so i'm using this galvanized metal piece from dollar tree and i'm just going to add a decent amount of hot glue you guys please use a low temp heat gun or give it a second to dry or even use like oven mitts on your hands just to protect your hands because that hot glue really heats up that metal i just glued it right to the center of those boards and then i'm going to take this super cute galvanized chicken from dollar tree they also have a pig and a cow and i'm going to cut off the hanger and then add some mod podge a crap ton of mod podge but i do end up smearing it out and taking a little bit off and then i'm going to use this gorgeous dollar tree fabric once again i do like my diys in my videos mostly to match or go together so i'm going to take this fabric cut off a piece big enough to cover the chicken and then i'm just going to place the fabric over top of the mod podge that is on the chicken and then just to make sure it lasts a really long time i'm going to add another layer of mod podge over top of the fabric and you really want to kind of smear and smooth this out as much as you can and once it dries that you can go ahead and cut off a lot of that excess and then i usually take like a fingernail filer if there's any really small paste spaces like kind of by up where the chicken's head and neck area is those little creases where i'm at would be great for a nail filer or you could also fold a piece of sandpaper in half and really get into those grooves and cut off well sand off all of that excess before i add my chicken i'm going to use four of these thumbtacks that are from dollar tree i've had them for quite some time now they are silver and i want them to be black so i just go ahead and paint all four of those black with my black chalk paint as some of you may know these dollar tree galvanized metal pieces have four holes in them one on each corner so it's going to make it really easy for us to take our thumb tacks push it right into the hole right down into the wood and they are very secure and in place and look really cute as some detail and now we can finally take our chicken add some hot glue to the back of the chicken and then place it right onto the galvanized metal and oh my goodness you guys i am already loving how this is turning out also on the inspiration picture from big lots the front of it had a welcome saying on there and it was really cute so i kind of wanted to mimic that as well so i'm taking one of these galvanized metal words the welcome obviously i did get these last fall but they have them pretty much all year round and i went ahead and painted that as well black with my black chalk paint and i'm just going to glue it on the front of the crates down here at the bottom now all you have to do to add floral florals or greenery just add some spanish moss nope not spanish moss floral foam into the crate you guys it's a mess today's a mess add some floral foam into the crate and then add whatever greenery you would like i just cut up some of this boxwood looking greenery from dollar tree add it into the crates and then i just went in with a little bit more black chalk paint to give it just a little bit more distressing and look at this you guys i absolutely love it so very much again it is not an exact dupe but i hope you guys can see where i got the inspiration from on the original picture from big lots and that is what i'm here for you guys i love making diys so you can either recreate them exactly like that or get inspiration from them as well [Music] and now we are on diy number four i am so excited about this diy i personally absolutely adore this diy so to start out you will need two of these easels from dollar tree i personally have not seen them before at my dollar tree i think i've heard of them a little while back but i hadn't heard about them for quite some time so i think they are back again so again you will need two of these so to start off you need to remove these two screws that are on both of the easels and they hold up that little wood piece that will hold up your canvas or your picture frame and you're just going to take that wood piece off and set it aside don't throw it away we will need it for later so now you have this three piece here and that one wood piece and then just go ahead and repeat the same steps on the second easel so that you just have that one three piece and then the little wood piece as well again do not throw those two wood pieces away that we took off of the easel you will need those later on now i'm going to take a 10 inch dial rod from dollar tree and i just use my miter shears and i cut it in half so that is at 5 inches next i add a little bit of hot glue just on the two wood pieces that had the screws in it and i add the hot glue right where the screw holes are and then i'm going to glue that dowel rod right to those two pieces so that this back kickstand part always stays where it can be moving and then i do the exact same thing to the other easel as well and just like the previous one you want to make sure you're only gluing it to those two wood pieces so that back piece can stay moving now hold the easels up so that those wood pieces that can move are facing each other and then you're going to want to just simply push them right up and then add some wood glue for the long and strong hold and some hot glue for the immediate hold and then you're just going to glue those two wood pieces that are able to move together straight up here at the top once you have those glued together you want to tighten these metal pieces over here i know they have a name but i cannot think of the name right now but if you tighten those that will make it so that your legs to your swing set are very sturdy and they will not move now i can start making the seat for our swing and i'm going to use those two wood pieces that i took off earlier and a five gallon paint stir stick and i just put the stir stick between those two wood pieces i just liked how wide it was with the stir stick in between those pieces and i mark it down and i'm going to just simply cut it with my miter shears once it is cut i sand it down so that it is nice and smooth and then i'm going to place one of those pieces of wood facing up and then one of the pieces that we took off earlier facing down so you kind of see that little bit of a lip on one of them i just wanted one of those lips to kind of be up on the other side just to look almost like a little bit of a backing or kind of like the stopper for the swing to hold it all together i used some craft sticks and way too much wood glue i do wipe off all of that excess and i just place those down to keep all three of those pieces together because i used that paint stir stick i did have to sand off any of the image if i was going to paint over it it really wouldn't matter but i'm going to do some stain the faux stain technique again i know you guys are probably sick of that faux stain technique but i just love it i am a mom so i have kids here and i don't like to really use a lot of icky smells and chemicals and things like that i try to craft when they're not home but still either way you know just to be safe i love to use just the paint and water mixture for the faux stain as you can see i stained the entire frame for the swing set and then i'm also going to stain the wood piece for our seat as well once everything is stained it should look like this and i can already see this coming together i'm so excited about this diy so at dollar tree they carry these picture hanging kits and they have these little hooks inside of them and they are kind of closed they have just a little bit of a space that's open and you really can't fit much through there so i'm just using my scissors to kind of make that opening on the hook a little bit bigger i'm going to use two of those hooks and i'm just going to screw one on each side about an inch away from the edge underneath the top of the swing set basically where the chain on a swing set normally is when i screwed my hooks in i made sure that the opening was facing outward on both sides next i'm going to take some of the dollar tree nautical rope and i'm taking two pieces that i cut at 34 inches and i'm going to fold them in half and then i just take where the halfway mark is and i'm going to loop it onto our hook that we screwed onto the swing set then once the twine is on we're going to take that wood piece and i'm just going to take the twine and place it like underneath the wood piece creating a loop bringing the two ends up here at the top and then i'm going to tie it where pretty much at the length that i want my swing set swing to be goodness gracious you guys it is definitely easier to watch than it is to explain so i just cut off the excess on that knot and then i slid the knot down to underneath the wood piece and then i'm just going to hot glue the nautical rope in place so basically you're making a loop at the size or length that you want your swing to hang and then you'll glue the bottom of the wood piece to your loop and then you're just going to do the same thing to the other side add the nautical rope onto your hook i brought it down underneath the little wood piece to the same length as the previous nautical rope and then i'm just going to tie it in somewhat of a loose knot just so that i know that i have it at the length that i want it and then i'm going to hot glue it into place and then add another knot so that it is nice and then just cut off any excess nautical rope with some scissors and you have this super adorable little swing for the little decor piece on the swing i'm going to use this little metal like mug that i believe i got at dollar tree a few years back i have seen them like on yardsticks at dollar tree and i do believe they also had one with a little spigot so it was really like cute as well so i go ahead and pull all that excess stuff off and then i sand it down so that the paint takes a little bit better and will not peel or chip off and now i'm just going to go in with the white rust-oleum chalk paint again and i'm going to give this two coats of that chalk paint covering it completely once i have it painted completely white and it is dry i'm just going to use some black chalk paint and a paint brush and go through and add a little bit of distressing along like the rims and the handle and just really anywhere that i kind of thought would look nice and needed a little bit of an extra touch dollar tree carries so many different robot transfers and they have these new farm farmhouse transfers i love them there are so many different styles these are one of them and i'm going to cut out the farm fresh flowers seeds stems blooms the rectangle on the outside like the border was just a little bit too big so i only cut out the wording and then i'm just going to place it on the center of the little mug and once i have it where i would like it i'm going to push it down onto the mug then take my cricut tool and start rubbing it from the inside out and what i mean by that is i start in the center of the transfer and i work my way out on one side and then i go to the center of the transfer again and work my way out on the other side until i have it completely rubbed on and then you can peel off the plastic piece and reveal your new rub on transfer now this was just a little bit too crisp and clean for me you could leave it just as is if you would like but i just wanted to kind of distress it a little bit more so i used the black chalk paint and a chippy brush and i just go along the whole entire mug and kind of distress it down just a little bit and you guys that is it add some florals greenery succulents whatever you would like put it on your swing and check out how stinking cute this diy turned out [Music] this diy is definitely by far my favorite in this video you can add a potted plant on here a gnome whatever you would like i just adore this swing so very much [Music] and now it is time for diy number five while i was at dollar tree the other day i not only found that really cool bead garland but i also found these wall bases these galvanized wall vases so as soon as i found it i knew i had to do a diy with it right away i don't know why but these totally screamed farmhouse to me you could have them be any style that you would like but i wanted them to have a farmhouse style to them so i went ahead and cut off the twine like hanger and then i'm going to use this folk art metallic gunmetal gray to kind of dull this down and make it look a little bit more like old and i guess weathered so i'm going to use a sponge and i'm just going to kind of sponge this lightly across and over basically on the entire wall vase i don't know why they call it a wall vase that's just i don't know i've heard of it being called a wall pocket which i think is a little bit better but yeah anyways you're going to again sponge that folk art metallic gunmetal gray all over the metallic no galvanized you guys i swear it has been a day so anyways as you can tell that really dulls this down and i'm sorry i put so much of this footage in here i did not mean to but there we go now we're done so now i'm going to use this hello hobby i believe it is cafe noir and i'm just going to use another piece of sponge and add this going around all of the edges because this color is the perfect rust color i love using this color for rust you don't have to mess with any powdery substance like cinnamon and you know stuff like that so you just kind of sponge it on and i went across the top edge here and you guys it really makes this look so much better i love the way this turned out now i'm going to use the farmhouse stencil with a chicken on it from dollar tree and i just placed the chicken right centered on this galvanized piece down here on the bottom of the wall vase and i definitely should have taped it down i highly recommend taping it down it did want to keep kind of sliding around so but i got it to work in the end so just tape it down to save time i highly recommend that and like i did with all the other stencils i'm going to use my stencil brush fill in the chicken with my black chalk paint and all i'm doing here is just the chicken so you do not have to worry about any of the rest of the stencil and once you have that done look at how adorable at this point i felt like it needed a little bit of rust on this inside edge here so that's all i'm doing here is just adding some of that cafe noir to the inside edge so it just has a little bit of rust as well i'm also going to use these rub on transfers from dollar tree and i like the leaves down here at the bottom that are kind of long and they also have a little bit of a shorter set so i just go ahead and cut out those leaves so that i can transfer them on i like to lay my pieces down before i actually transfer them on to see where i like them so once i have them in the position that i like i just go ahead and transfer it down by using my cricut tool and again kind of starting from the center and working my way out and then just slowly pull off the plastic piece from the transfer and then i just repeat the same step on the other side with the other rub on transfer and then i also added the two smaller little leaves right up like kind of above the first rub on transfers and look how absolutely adorable that looks i just love how this is turning out as well originally this was meant to hang on the wall but i actually want it to be a stand up decor piece so i'm going to use some of these dollar tree beads and i use like the medium size and i'm going to paint four of those black with my black chalk paint these wood beads are going to be the feet that make our decor piece stand up so i'm just going to kind of stand it up making sure that it is nice and level and then i'm going to add some hot glue it to one of the wood beads now making sure you are holding your galvanized metal piece in place slide the wood bead towards the front this is you're gonna have one in the front and one in the back and when you slide it into position once it hits the side and cannot go any further that's where you want to glue your wood bead and then you will repeat the same step with the other three beads creating all four of your feet to make the decor piece stand straight up to cover up the holes where the hanger was i made a boat just like i did earlier and then i also made a dew twine bow as well and glued that right on top of the gangnam bow and then i'm going to glue those bows right over where the holes were for the hanger and that is it you guys this diy is done you could use this for so many different things you could add florals greenery you could put your mail in here your keys it would be super cute i love how this diy turned out and i hope you do too i hope you all enjoy these diys as much as i enjoyed sharing them with you and if you
