the mom series is a classic in the world of ikea and in this video i'll be reviewing this particular desk what makes this desk special is that you can either build the storage cabinet on the right side or the left side people have different preferences and different layouts in their living space so this feature is just an added bonus with this mom desk you also get a good amount of work space you'll have enough room for your plants your laptop or your desktop a lamp and any other necessities you need for your desk setup to be more exact the width of this ikea desk is 55 inches and the depth is 25 and a half inches right now you can get this desk in a brown stained ash veneer or black brown i'd recommend getting it in these two colors as this white color can show pen marks really easily and therefore you'll have to clean it more often plus the other colors are made out of ash veneer so they should last longer as ash is a dense hardwood my brother bought a mom desk about eight years ago and it's still holding up i don't know if the older desk is exactly made out of ash veneer but nevertheless he's happy with the purchase i noticed minor separation in some areas mostly in between the strips of veneer but that's as far as any imperfections i can see with this old mom desk with this desk you also get a wire holder underneath the worktop you can place a power strip in this area or just keep your wires here in an organized fashion some wires are too short to reach the nearest outlet so this little wire holder can be very useful especially when there's enough space to fit a narrow power strip as for the leg space i would say you get more than enough room i'm six feet tall and have a pretty bulky desk chair i still had plenty of room to move from side to side if you want to see if your desk show will fit under the desk then the height from the floor to the bottom of the desk is about 26 and a half inches the width of this area is about 37 and a quarter inches i noticed that the top drawer opens and closes pretty smoothly but there was some moving from side to side it feels on the cheaper end but it still gets its job done by storing smaller objects like markers and staplers as for the cabinet i noticed the door opens and closes pretty smoothly as well the storage area is divided into two and the shelf can be adjusted to three different heights if the shelf is placed in the middle you'll have enough space to store larger books and binders i noticed that this area of this cabinet is pretty deep as well you basically almost have 24 inches of space depth wise you also have the option to take out the shelf and can use this area to store bigger items like storage boxes or electronics it took me a bit over an hour to finish the assembly and you'll have to transport two packages you might have some issues if you have a smaller car but if you're interested in purchasing this mom desk right now you can get it for 179 dollars in canada and america overall i found this ikea desk to be really stable and didn't see any problems with it so going back to the title of does it suck i must say in my opinion i think it pretty much satisfies every basic need that you look for on a desk so no i wouldn't say it sucks smash that like button if you enjoyed the video and screw that subscribe button if you want to see more furniture review videos
