hi everybody I'm dusty with the lamp and we're lighting it up with relevant teachings tools and resources and in this video we are going to be discussing the doctrine of God or theology proper I'm excited about this let's jump right in it's the doctrine of God what is it well it might sound intimidating but doctrine just means teaching and obviously what that means then is it's just a teaching of God so what the doctrine of God is is really just a consolidated teaching on the person nature and character of God that's been compiled from the entire scripture that's it now primarily or normally I should say the doctrine of God carries with it four main points and those four main points are the identity of God the perfections of God the transcendence of God and the character of God in this video we're going to only be looking at today the identity of God and the perfections of God so let's let's look at point number one point number one is the identity of God under the identity of God we look at how God identifies himself and normally most theologians highlight as being a key to this the fact that God is living God is living and this is seen very clearly in a lot of places throughout scripture Inc in fact it's a common a common phrase to hear some of the prophets say as surely as the Lord lives this is seen very clearly in Jeremiah 10 5 through 10 check this out I think you'll like this there idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field they cannot speak and they have to be carried for they cannot walk but the Lord is the true God he is the Living God and the everlasting king what I think is absolutely beautiful about this as you can kind of get from the gist of Jeremiah 10 is that this is regularly assigned to God in order to separate himself from the worship of inanimate objects or objects that are dead as opposed to God who is living as you remember from that passage it describes God as being the Living God because he alone is alive in contrast to you no objects of wood or stone that can either see speak walk or move which are dead and this is a truly important to the identity of God because it separates him from other things that are regularly worshiped and I think that is so important also underneath God as living we also have it very connected to the fact of action and we see this in Hebrews 10 31 and what does it say it says this it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a living God and for all extensive purposes that is highlighting the fact that God as living is inseparable from God as being active isn't that beautiful let's continue on the second thing we see under the identity of God now is God as personal personal God is personal and of course I love this this is seen so clearly in the creation account Genesis 1:1 through 2 3 and what we see in that section of Scripture though it's not explicitly stated we see and many theologians will tell you that the twofold purpose of creation was that God would be glorified first and foremost and then secondly that God would create mankind with the purpose of having a personal relationship with them isn't that beautiful now what I think is absolutely incredible about that is God could have created you know anything to put mankind on but instead he created the heavens in the earth he created the beauty of the flowers and the oceans and the mountains as a beautiful beautiful setting for his ultimate creation which would be mankind or humankind because he wanted to have a relationship with us and because he is truly a personal God I think that's incredible secondly under God being personal we see that very clearly through how titles and names are given to God probably the best and most clear example of this is God being the being given the title father right in Matthew 6:9 and that famous that famous example prayer of Jesus he says our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name he's saying our Father he is relational he is personal he is ours and we can consider ourself his sons and he our Father isn't that incredible I mean I don't know that you get much more personal than that I think it's beautiful continuing on we have the Third Point underneath the identity of God and that is God is spirit God is spirit and this is a fascinating point which truly challenges the mind of believers to think bigger about God we see this example very clear especially in Psalm 139 7 through 10 where it says where can I go from your spirit to things under God as spirit or God being a spirit first we know that this really does tie in to his omnipresence which we'll talk about a little bit later but it means that he is unbound untrammeled untethered to a body right he is incorporeal so what that means is he is literally without restraint of being restricted in any way to one particular place in if you will in time or in creation he is he is able to be everywhere which should bring us great joy because that means that God isn't restricted in you know who he helps or when he helps that's beautiful isn't it so he is without restriction in that way there is no obstacle or hindrance within himself number two we see that this also has to do with freedom God is being spirit is tied very closely to freedom in second Corinthians 3:17 what we see is Paul writing for the Lord is spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom why can we find freedom for living because we find it in God who has freedom entirely in himself to give he is so free that he alone can give true freedom who I mean that is absolutely incredible isn't it I don't know about you but I want to start jumping and screaming for joy hallelujah let's continue on to point number two which are the perfections of God underneath the perfections of God we'll be looking at the areas in which God is perfect to the point where anything natural or human or created are not able to fully attain to follow along the first point we have as God's omnipotence God is omnipotent and what that means is it sounds it might sound intimidating but all that means is Omni which is all and potens it's Latin for power for power so all power God is the possessor of all power the Bible is very clear about God being all-powerful it over and over and over again it gives him the title almighty which is the same as saying all-powerful isn't it of course one of the greatest revelations or instances where we see God being all-powerful is at creation Genesis 1:1 where it says in the beginning God created and I absolutely love that because as we say in Latin create o.x Nilo what we see is we see God creating from nothing there is not one person or one thing that can boast that type of power only God can boast possession of a power that can create from nothing what a great glimpse into the power of God isn't it also underneath God's omnipotence we need to keep in mind that this needs to be associated also with the salvation God as being all-powerful means that only God can truly work salvation powerfully on behalf of mankind I mean we see that as early as Genesis 3:21 and then of course we see God redeeming and leading people to salvation so that ultimate work on the cross through the person of Jesus Christ isn't that incredible so only God can truly and powerfully work salvation on behalf of mankind also under the perfections of God we see God's omniscience God's omniscience and what that is is the same thing it comes from Latin and it means all and knowledge or sigh antica knowledge okay and so what this is talking about is God is the possessor of all knowledge I want to talk about two aspects of this that I think are truly important first of all we see in first John 3:20 we see that God knows everything God knows everything okay so what does that mean that literally just means you know everything that can be known is known by God and I think that might even lead us into understanding as well that even the things that we cannot know are known by God the outcomes of decisions and choices and our actions that we might not be able to fully calculate ourselves can be fully known by God who is the possessor of all knowledge also I want to highlight the fact of job 37 in job 37 it says that God's knowledge is perfect his knowledge is perfect now this is truly something we can't fully fathom because anything that we call or consider knowledge we have to learn with great effort don't we but god is being the possessor of all knowledge he in and of himself knows everything and he knows everything perfectly I mean that is so big scholars and theologians have spent lifetimes trying to try to dive into the depths of what that means he is truly omniscient insofar as he knows all things Wow lastly in our discussion today we are going to be looking at God's omnipresence so again all that means is all present ok so literally God is everywhere present this is so huge and so important to really God to who God is because God needs to be everywhere present so as to be with his people at all times able to comfort able to heal able to redeem and able to work good on behalf of his people not just here in America but also elsewhere right on the other side of the globe Trulli near near to the hardy god he is on the present this is seen very clearly in Psalm 139 7 through 10 where again it says where can I go from your spirit right the the psalmist is is literally saying there is not one place I can go where you are not isn't that powerful by God being everywhere present he is not spatially bound right he is not bound to any one particular space or another he is everywhere and that should bring us great joy because that means there is literally nowhere where we can go where God is not every time and every place we need God he is up there we can run to him we can you know find him exactly where he is because he is everywhere present what a beautiful thing finally I really
