Doctor Octopus Forms the Superior Four

[Music] what's up my comic comrad today we're returning to marvel's six issue devil's reign mini series with issues three and four for those of you who may not be up to speed with the story mayor wilson fisk has basically outlawed all vigilantes in new york city which of course causes our heroes to band together to stop fisk but that's literally just skimming the surface of the story it's way more interesting than that in fact we've already covered the first two issues of the series in this episode right here so check out that video or read the two issues first because there is nothing but spoilers ahead for the entire devil's reign series with that said let's see where issue three takes us as the end of issue two was a pretty big cliffhanger this review starts off with a beating up ben reilly who has a power dampener around his neck being interrogated by two cops if you're wondering why he's all bloody and bruised it's because taskmaster put a power dampener around his neck last issue and then threw him out of building in any case the male officer is doing the whole bad cop approach while the female officer is taking the good cop approach and after the cop roughed up spidey a bit spidey says did you train as tough guy when people can't fight back because you're clearly top of your class and as the cop slams his head on the table he says gonna love hearing that smart mouth in court and just then the thing in human torch arrive at the police station with the thing saying i know that a bunch of you don't agree with the garbage that the mayor is handed down i also know you still have jobs to do but me and matchstick here are gonna do what's right and get our friend a guy who saved your lives over and over at this point johnny storm burns through the door saying hey sorry about the door i can't turn the fire off these days while the thing breaks through a wall saying and i'm sorry about the wall we're here for a slightly annoying superhero and with that they bust spidey out of jail we are then taken to the city somewhere where luke cage is announcing to the public that he's running for mayor he essentially says that wilson fisk is trying to keep the city living in fear that's what this is all about making his city scared and tricking us into thinking he's the only one who could save it he continues to say well unlike wilson fisk i've actually saved lives and i'll save the city from the kingpin of crime i'm luke cage and i'm running to be your next mayor as the press asks how it's going to work considering he's a superhero running for mayor in a city where it's illegal to be a superhero he then walks off stage but foggy nelson takes the podium saying i'm franklin nelson mr cage's lawyer and i'm happy to answer any questions you may have about the legal situation as foggy is dealing with the press luke and jessica jones get out of there and meanwhile foggy continues to tell the press that mr cage is fighting for the rights of everyone affected by this wild municipal overstepping by mayor fisk myself and my partner miss mcduffie are representing the heroes who have been unfairly imprisoned mayor fisk knows this is an unethical move he's a convicted criminal who's been left to run free for too long and we won't rest until that's rectified and he's behind bars once again elsewhere we see kirsten mcduffie visiting sue's storm in jail sane we don't have a trial date yet but the myrmidon is adding an assault charge to both you and your husband mrs storm as she looks over the legal documents sue replies it's just sue kirsten and this is preposterous reed and i were defending ourselves mcduffie says it's clearly a vendetta getting fisk out of the mayor's seat will go a long way to overturning this but i'm more worried about the national sentiment people across america generally view superheroes and supervillains as a new york problem and polls suggest they're worried new york is going to push them into their backyards sue says which would lead to a federal law damn it we can't handle another superhuman registration act we need to stop this before it gets bigger as mcduffie leaves we see that sue took a paper clip from the documents she was looking at the book then takes us to where they're keeping purple man in prison with purple man saying so this is your grand plan use my powers to brainwash the voters to elect you seems like a small move even for you wilson wilson replies sometimes small moves win wars this is beyond an election zebedaya this is about a new day when men like me finally have the freedom to rule and those who would stand in our way will be the scurrying criminals the purple man isn't buying it he says nah this is more than that this is about your achilles heel this is about daredevil he's got you riled up wilson says he is a tick burrowed in but there's something else to him he's done something to me i knew who he was who he really was but now purple man says i know because i feel it too but i feel it because it's as if i use my own power against myself fist asks are you telling me you did this he replies no but it's my power it's familiar but deluded it's my children fiskan says of course while he walks away calling someone and we see that it's auto octavius he asks otto if finding purple man's kids and making them part of the machine would make his mind control device more powerful and octavia says undoubtedly but adds he's not going to round up his children for wilson because that's not part of their original agreement but he's willing to update the psychoprism once he gets the subjects to which fisk says fine i'll gather them i hope whatever's occupying your time at richard's lab is worth disappointing me and when octavius hangs up the ghost rider hulk and wolverine that he pulled from other realities asks if there's a problem he replies nothing i can't handle fisk is obsessed and that obsession is the perfect distraction we then find out as otto continues to talk to them that these are actually superior autos from different realities octavia says i brought you all here because we share a dream and have suffered similar setbacks each of you inhabited a hero from your universe each with dreams of showing the world you could be the greatest heroes unafraid to make the hard decisions and in each world you were hunted and attacked and lost everything but together we can truly be superior we will show everyone that the world will no longer be run by small-minded men so you know how when otto octavius became the superior spider-man by taking over peter parker's body well this is the same thing but on these earths we see he took over other heroes giving us an auto octavius version of wolverine the hulk and ghost rider after this we were taken to the avengers and we see they realize that fisk is using mind control to steal his election win at which point daredevil says this isn't a matter of legality or democracy anymore he's violating an entire city we need to take him down by any means necessary captain america says we need to be certain if we're wrong but daredevil just walks out saying i know fisk he's doing this we head out tonight to remove him from office with or without you we are then taken to purple man's children who are hiding from the thunderbolts but they are spotted by a kind old lady who offers to let them stay with her without even using their mind control powers on her we are then taken to city hall where the avengers are making their move on fisk but before they could strike the autos start attacking them that's right the auto version of hulk ghost rider and wolverine start fighting the avengers and during the battle we see ghost rider take out iron man who is revealed to actually be chameleon meaning chameleon infiltrated the avengers but we don't know exactly when that swap happened anyway the main doctor octopus shows up and says i was going to steal the mayor's seat out from under him but you had to dismiss my proxy candidate in favor of harlem's hero so instead of running the city i'll have to settle for saving it as we see him up there with a bunch of drones the comic ends with foggy nelson returning to his office in the middle of the night and being greeted by two thugs who beat him up with a crowbar one says you and your lady lawyer are real loud yeah our boss doesn't like that thinks you're better off never talking again and with that let's jump into issue 4. it picks up two weeks later and we see matt murdock walking the streets seeing how much the city has changed in that time we see october drones flying over the city patrolling looking for any person breaking the vigilante law he says they fly over the city with their demise thousands of them hunting anyone who dares ignore fisk's zero tolerance policies the heroes are underground the people cower no freedom no crimes the city is afraid but you forgot fisk you forgot who i am i'm the man without fear as he grabs his baton we are then taken inside city hall where otto octavius meets with fisk telling him it's election season shouldn't you be out campaigning oh right why would you need to do that this city is crime free and you're using the purple man's powers of persuasion on it fisk then says i almost admire your swing octavius but it's a swing that you have failed to land if you were going to come for me why not come for the crown otto says you've always been obsessed with power wilson i'm happy to have you sit in a useless seat to shake hands and kiss babies but i i make the world better safer and i couldn't have done it without you richard's lab yielded marvelous things a multiverse of help of inventions that made my octobots possible before leaving he tells wilson i almost forgot why i came i wanted to deliver the news in person wilson crime is down which means we've arrested your criminal son dude octavius is freaking cutthroat anyway we see daredevil visit foggy in the hospital making sure he's okay but after foggy assures him that he is he leaves and runs into kirsten in the hall at which point they start kissing elsewhere we see that fisk has gathered his thunderbolts which consists of members like u.s agent rhino female electro and so on and he tells them they need to bring purple man's children but some on the team are having doubts about the mission like u.s agent who asks what do these kids do i've got no problem upholding lawmaker fisk i just want to make sure that's what we're doing here fisk uses his mind control power saying you'll do as i say mr walker and of course he does back in prison we see sue storm remove her power dampening collar with a paper clip that she took from kirsten earlier then as you guess she uses her powers to free herself and read they also free moon knight and the real tony stark as all four of them bust out of prison we then see fiscal the police station to have his son released but his son is not thankful in fact he tells his dad everyone thinks you're doing this the drones but i'm the only one who sees how weak you really are you're under the foot of the octopus man i'm ashamed to call you my father to be called kingpin after you fisk says i can make you fall in line i can but his son just spits in his face and walks away while saying i'd like to see you try dad elsewhere we see rhino of the thunderbolts and the champions battling but mid-fight rhino tells them i'm on your side of course they don't believe him at first but when the drones surround all of them and they're about to be apprehended he gives them all badges at which point the drones fly away he then explains that the drones know not to attack anyone with a badge it's like wi-fi or whatever i told you i wasn't here to fight they ask so why are you here he says to miles morales spider-man look kid you know me i ain't a bad guy this was a good paying lawful gig but the mayor he wanted me to go after some kids not you guys other kids kids who hadn't done anything wrong and that ain't me i just wanted to tell someone one of you hero types we then go to miles captain america she-hulk and luke cage saying that if he gets the children he wins the election and the minds of the city jessica jones adds we're going to find those kids and if fisk or otto or anyone gets in my way i'm going to end them elsewhere we see wilson fisk is having a heart to heart with his wife typhoid mary they're talking about their first time with one another but she says she doesn't even remember their first time all the years of treatments and drama have robbed her from so much wilson grasping his purple cane says i wish you could remember at which point she says my god i remember what a gift that that power it's remarkable i had no idea it could do that he then looks at his cane and says neither did i and then runs to the top of the building thinking i need air space the weight of years is crushing me the weight of that hate that i so desperately need to let go of or be consumed by like the fire of a phoenix he then stares at the jewel on the top of his cane and says remember captions continue to say as we see fisk kneeling in the rain so i can be born again as he looks up in rage he says matt murdock meaning he's finally remembered who daredevil is and there you have it friends issue 3 and 4 of devil's reign this series has a plot line thus far that i'm really digging i'm loving how auto octavia seems to be the real mastermind behind all of this and how kingpin realizes purple man kane gives them the power to bring memories back very very cool i can't wait to see where the last two issues take us but what do you guys think about the events in this story let us know down in the comments and that's
