do you really need a slow and sear all right guys how I plan to film this video and how it's worked out today has been two completely different things and you're gonna notice in the video that some things are gonna seem a little bit backwards because it's lighter outside so I'm filming this now just because it's getting dark my neighbor decided that he was gonna have a leaf party and blow leaves so it would have made terrible footage so what I did was I filmed the how to do things without the slow and sear the things that people have been doing for a hundred years the techniques at work for your weber kettle you don't need a slow and sear you can do everything that the slow in Sears says you can do with it without it you know if if you look on their website and I'm I don't have it in front of me right now but it claims that it can take a there water pan will last five plus hours I have a half sheet pan in here right now with 14 cups of water if I remember right compared to theirs holds four cups which I believe is a quart I might be wrong but then you got to refill it after five hours you can just put this whole pan in here fill it up with as much water as you want this is way more water this water could probably I could probably run this ring around this thing three times and never burn off all that water the other thing that the claim is is that it's pretty much set it and forget it it'll hold consistently to 25 once you understand your weber kettle you can set that and you can do the same thing that's that's what I struggled with what the product is it claims it can make your kettle a smoker but your kettle Artie is a smoker I mean mine is I don't think that Weber puts your kettle you're just smoker within the same kettles makes no sense to me I've struggled with it and didn't understand it my the reason I've made this video is twofold number one I'm starting to notice on a lot of forms and things that people buy a kettle and ask can i smoke on it and you'll have the the old-timey guy say yeah just use the snake method or yeah just do where you bank the coals on the side and then you'll have five just by just by a slow and sear you don't need the slow answer if you have a slow in sear good for you I mean I I have no hate towards it what my point is you don't need it and then when when when when you say things like that then people say but yeah but it's the it's the only barbecue product on Amazon with four stars great but that doesn't mean you need it but there's a group of on Facebook with 7,000 people that's great part of my research and making this video is I went on there and there's a lot of people that have questions have problems so it's not a turnkey here you go stick it in your kettle and you're done because you have to learn how the slow and sear works you could just eliminate that and learn how your kettle works and save yourself $89 I think it is plus shipping which is another $12 wait that was shipping on the drip pan and the drip pan and griddle which was $80 so let's take a couple steps back here kids the guy that invented this is a physicist he's a really smart guy that's not where he's really smart he mass marketed this thing like nothing I've ever seen before a guy is really smart and I David I gave you a lot of credit for what you've done now you're gonna sit there and people are gonna say but I went on YouTube and I saw all these big barbecue channels make videos on it so it must be good right it is good it does what it says it does what the kettle already does what it says it does that's what a lot of people like myself don't understand if you have one and you put it in there and it works keep rockin on but if you're the guy that's on the fence or you're the guy hey it's Christmas time a couple days from here somebody's gonna end up with a kettle and thence and they're gonna be it's their first real outdoor cooking barbecue grilling experience and they're gonna start going on forums and they're gonna land on YouTube and it's funny to me there's not one video on YouTube that even talks about this at all that I can find now everybody gets a little a little bit different search results on YouTube we all get it alright so right now let me see what time it is what you're gonna see here in a second I started at two o'clock it's 4:45 so for three hours now I made a half half circle in my kettle and when I checked on it basically an hour ago we had moved about this much so my math is correct we're gonna blow the 8 hours I don't know are they the 8 hours of what you can get out of a Sloane's here out of the water then somebody's gonna say but yeah but they claimed 8 hours but a lot of people say you can get 10 to 12 hours we've only made a half a snake eye we're going to blow that out of the water too it's just all the way you set things up it's the way you understand your kettle or any girl for that matter once again I want to say the guy that made this smart guy the people who made videos on it on YouTube they're telling you the truth but the questions never asked do I need it because the answer's no and a lot of people have seen that do you need the the drip pan griddle thing you're gonna pay $80 for a drip pan this is this this is me talking to everybody who doesn't have one right now you want to spend your money $80 on a drip pan go ahead but remember you could just completely neglect your kettle and it's probably going to last you three years and with that $80 you didn't spent you got buy a whole new kettle so think about that and then the conversation will become but it's a griddle well I'm standing right here you can't see it in front of a 17 inch black stone grill I'm about to make some burgers on here after I get done with this I picked it up at Dick's Sporting Goods for $69.99 you can get them right now at Ace Hardware for I believe it's $64.99 and you can go drive down to your local dicks or Ace Hardware or you can do some more searching and find places that you can pick these things up and you will actually get a bigger griddle then what the drippings here is or the dripping griddle is and it's a nice square shape it's not this awkward half circle thing that you can only use on the slow answer I'm I'm trying to look out for you guys so that I've had a lot of people tell me this is not a good video to make and this isn't gonna garner the attention that I'm looking for and I'm okay with that because if you've already bought it and it works for you you're out nothing you're happy but there's gonna be people who don't know any better and say hey when I read this website and it says this will turn my weber kettle into a smoker they're going to think it doesn't already work that way when it currently already does so this video is for those people I sorry for the interruption mrs. hobo came home and completely wrecked that little swear I was at so I'm jumping back in here from where I think I was at which is end of the day this is what I'm telling you the Sloane's here it works it does what it sets the drip pan that's on you you have to spend that money for a drip pan go ahead yes you can use it as a griddle but you have to use it on the Sloane's here it's not something that you can probably really use on something else just based on the shape me personally if it was me I'd learn my kettle save myself they $89 of the Sloane's here by myself a griddle or take that $89 and the price of the drip and sear or dripping griddle combine those together and I'd probably buy me like a 28 inch black stone I've got a 36 inch black stone in my backyard it is great for doing big cooks that's me choice is yours I'm just putting out there so you have the information I'm not gonna get into the spinning great thing that's the new thing that you can go look that up yourself but apparently that's the new thing that you buy a great that spins so that you sear on a Colt sear thing David you're doing a great job at creating stuff man that's that's all I'm gonna say you're you you got the market cornered on making products that people think they got to have and I give you credit for that but you're not gonna you're not selling me buddy sorry all right guys thanks for tuning in Oh before I forget I'm gonna show you how to not use the sullens here basically what I did it's called the snake method you line your coals up too wide all the way around the outside of your kettle you put a second stack all the way on top of it yeah lean you can put your wood how you like it I like to lean my wood up on end you'll see here in a second I'm gonna run that through if you want to see the the evidence of why you don't need it watch now if you came here to to you know yell and scream and be with pitchforks and shake stuff at me you probably don't want to watch that part cuz you don't care alright guys have at it oh yeah I nearly forgot there's a video on the sullen Sears website with the Great's that I gotta hit up there's a video of somebody dumping trying to dump charcoal into the weber kettle the flip up great and makes it seem like it's impossible so watch this clip real quick and then we'll get to the to the snake method as you guys can see I've already started the snake method just go to wide and then put another two on top of them it's really simple only takes a minute or two to do doesn't have to be perfect one thing I try to do is make sure that I put coals on the second layer that crossover that way you almost guaranteed a continuous burn I've not had any issues with this method it works and it costs nothing this is usually good for about 225 250 oh one other note if you want to cook it to 75 what most people do is they will put one on the center of each one of these spots that'll raise your temp about 25 more degrees this isn't rocket science by any means alright guys let's talk about wood placement what I like to do is put one piece where I'm going to start my where I'm going to dump my coals to start my fire and then what I like to do some people set it on top the problem with that is this is gonna ignite this faster because of this piece of wood acting like a bridge so what I like to do is lean them this direction that way they'll catch but they're less likely to create that bridge I'm talking about how much would you like to use that's up to you we'll stop here you can keep going use less wood that's pretty much your choice alright guys I apologize for the noise currently my neighbors having a leaf blowing party they heard me right it's a simple path steamed pan and this is a hundred ounces of water pour that in there what we to avoid any spilling if you can a little bit that splashes out won't hurt anything all right we can fit probably I don't know another cup or two so the sloan-c r has the capacity for four cups this has the capacity for probably fourteen that's twelve and some change right there we got our coals firing up we got 12 of those and the fire starter once that gets gone we'll dump them in here and we'll let it rip all right guys we got our 12 coals here and fire starter we'll just drop those here at the beginning of the snake that's what I did is I put a temp a stove thermometer temper temper ature is coming up all right well grab our drill great [Music] slide it in there close it down you want this I usually put it about anywhere from 50 to all the way open down here in the bottom [Music] / you guys can see these marks but where it's set now is about 25% opened and there's a half open spot I just mark that so I don't even have to look at I can just slide it over the move it put it out about 225 percent mark and you should be good to go you may have to move it just a hair one way or the other depending on your outside temperature all right we'll see how this method works [Music] one last thing I forgot to put temp gauges up here got a brand new one just for this video [Music] put one right here above the edge where the fires coming up and we'll put this one now we'll call it in the middle all right guys for roughly two hours and some change in if you notice this bolt right here this is where the ring ended and the ring started directly across from that so if we peek in here all if I get this camera angle in it we have just started turning on the opposite corner our temps are hovering right about 225 we got a little bit of smoke there and I put this you ain't go belts hit all right sorry about the steam out I'll bring it back here in another couple hours and we'll keep track of a rat alright guys were right at four hours as you can see that one's reading just short of 225 that one is 235 the yellow cap is where the line where we started and ended roughly as you can see we're right at the corner so I'm pretty confident we're gonna blow the timeline out of the water since we're already four hours in and we still have more charcoal to go I'm gonna guess that we'll probably get six out of it alright update you the next time actually the next time I update you will be when we break 225 as a minimum I'll bring you then all right guys it's 7:20 which means we're 5 hours and 20 minutes in we've got this state right - it looks like the last briquette is starting to catch fire so 5 hours and 40 minutes still sitting at 225 rocking at what's up guys it's 8 o'clock which puts us at 6 hours survey says Kohl's look like they're about gone - 26 ish see if I can - 25 oh let's see it'll probably burn my hand that doesn't help any see if you can see that - 25 but basically our coals are gone looks like we may have one two coals going so this what I'm gonna do I'm gonna say that we have successfully proven that a half ring of briquettes which was roughly 48 to 50 will get us 6 hours of cooking time so if you want to do the math on that and double that you'll get 12 hours out of roughly a hundred so I think we pretty much have beaten the Sloan's here all right one last thing coming up all right guys as you can see we have made it for 6 hours with the briquettes so I think we've pretty much killed the slow side of the argument I was gonna cook a steak tonight I've got this really nice steak here let's get late I don't think I need to do that I'll flip over here to my other camera if you watch the swollen see how they claim to do it after you do the slow side heat up a charcoal starter full of briquettes my suggestion just get this little Center insert thing here set it on top of your Terkel starter and put your stake on there if you got multiple stakes take these two baskets that you got came with the grill take your entire grill set it on there you can do three all right thanks for tuning in you guys know the deal if you liked the video hit the thumbs up want to put hate comments in the bottom I'm cool with that I just felt like somebody needed to say this type of stuff so people got a fair assessment and fully understood what products do if you want to be a subscriber be a subscriber if you like notifications at the bowel blah blah blah goodnight thanks for tuning in bye [Music]
