[Music] [Music] all this vast knowledge we have of China the cultures and its traditions comfortably gets challenged like a cheeky bastard that's great true very true we actually stumbled across some really interesting stuff instead of I figured instead of talking about wool mouths and all those Chinese nationalists commenters let's talk about some fellow native English speakers that are very opposed to us yeah let's also just talk about in general all about like what we do so perronnette you on the road I get a good way to start this without actually thinking about it I don't know how we're gonna get to the green way from here by the way neither do I just rotten roots yeah doesn't really matter let's just find it yeah let's stop it yeah so see milky you know when I was wanting to come to China yeah I looked around online to try and figure out I mean look I wasn't planning to come here for a long time sure but what I did want to do is I wanted to because I knew I was gonna come to China I just wanted to do a quick cursory search online yeah to to see what I was getting myself into right even though I was just coming for a business trip right and I couldn't find anything I literally couldn't find anything that there was a couple of like Lonely Planet Travel TripAdvisor type things I told you to like visit the Great Wall you know there was a severe lack of knowledge back and I remember looking up stuff about hey joke says thinking about being it there was literally not even one article let's go down here and just explore so let's do it urban exploration oh yeah actually we can do a little commentary here that see this housing development up here yeah to the left gum deer yeah yeah these are all these detached villas that they build but they're already rotting because no one moved in all right I can see like literally they still have the scaffolding and stuff up for where they're building them but not look at the condition that they're in yeah they see that one yeah no one lives there yeah sucks waste of money anyway good so anyway there was a very very little information about China like literally none actually now that I think about it right so when I got here after having lived here ready for about a year and a half maybe two two years already I decided to start making videos to kind of help people out in the beginning of course my videos were very misguided I didn't really know what I was doing I was talking about bikes and stuff sure I was throwing in well that's not really true you know the first videos that I did he wear the the PSP traveler videos right and those were pretty much exactly what I do now if you look at them they've got the same sort of format showing people around telling people about like how to get around and you know where to find places and all I can a nonsense sure anyway the thing is yeah look at these villas they they're just falling apart yeah dude like they years ago they put them up and got all the investment money and then Oh oh man dude yeah I got like I'm staying away behind here I got wet boot anyway that's looking at the village so I decided that you know it I wanted to make videos to help people understand China because I found it fascinating you know China is a very interesting place sure absolutely the fact that it's so cut off and that there's no knowledge out there was kind of three you know what I mean yeah so I thought why not just start my video so I did okay and just showing my observations of what China was like on the ground you know yeah so what it's like to live here what it's like to rent an apartment here what it's like to eat here you know the usual three dating you know the usual stuff right and that's on my channel grew really right behind it did never at any point claim to be a China expert and just the person making videos about China and my observations right you know I am actually a pretty adventurous person and I like to explore and I maybe just think maybe take the chances as long people wouldn't right yeah and I like to think that I've seen a lot of China who look at that mud nice get your four wheel drive on did ya anyway the thing is what are we doing I don't have it I'm slipping and sliding it's not a good road the fact of the matter is I've seen now after all these years a lot of China the most Chinese people have even seen yeah I know that's an absolute fact people might think that sounds arrogant but it's actually true most of the Chinese people I know don't travel very much right yes they go to like tourist sites I was gonna say it is usually tour groups that they do let's follow again yeah those trucks and coming down it's people like to use this I think so what the hell I have no idea anyway the thing is I've traveled on motorcycle and you've been with me on all these some of these massive adventures we've done especially our documentaries yeah but you know have been all the way more into the center of China waist South and through most of the provinces except for the Western ones event I've seen a lot and I've observed a lot and I'm not a fool somebody looks at that and says wow you know what is that I can look at it and see oh look someone's trying to do some subsistence farming using you know bits of tarp yeah maybe you shouldn't go in the puddle see I'm avoiding it you're gonna have to walk it up yeah so anyway you get people online I mean you've got a you've got to also tell your little story but the thing is we're giving people online saying that I i suck because i proclaim to be an expert where i never did all right I mean just to let you drink it up my handlers so I'll go for it yeah is it still running no why just just do it with the engine yeah I guess I could be easier of course so you're supposed to do [Laughter] when you were getting stuck back there I was watching I was like I gotta be careful not to do this and then it'll be a notion yeah exactly stick to the dry land okay okay let me get back to it so anyway the thing is having also come from quite a different country that most people use South Africa yeah I can definitely compare a lot of things South Africa and try and actually do have a lot in common I'm saying to you with not called for the killing of white people at least for now I can't guarantee the future yeah but I mean you'd understand somebody watching that especially as it gets shared on Twitter they freak out it sounds like a genocide or a cry babies cry baby I'm not calling for this sort of why do at least for now that I can't give you a guarantee of the future right and basically the point I'm trying to get to here is that I believe that most of my observations are not wrong and they may not be like a hundred percent I may make mistakes occasionally but I'd say it's a good like 80 percent sure but people are this tend to disagree with me to quite an extent right this is not a setter there's a cow pet over here nice holy wow that's deep is it not it's almost going in your exhaust in the back let me think probably go around it I'm just gonna put my waterproof bag on my bag if you don't mind okay because I'm concerned all this cross a lake on both sides yeah be careful this could be fun they don't call Haiti view China for nothing yeah okay anyway how about your videos what how about a little explanation as to how you got started you know almost the same really other than the PSP part but you know somebody people were so I think you've said this before as well but somebody who works a concern that I was moving here yeah and I kinda want to show them that it was pretty pretty cool place everything is fine besides shooting on a cell phone basically and I love motorcycles and stuff but I didn't have a GoPro it was before GoPro yeah and um had a buddy or whatever sit on the back and then film really nothing much to the videos I mean I never really had some topics I would go by at a market or you know go visit the Great Wall or whatever I was doing but it's gonna how I got started but you know it was never more than my observations it was never more than just what I saw yeah sharing basically sharing your experiences whatever claiming to I mean absolutely no a lot more than the average person about China oh yeah but never claiming to be a fricking professor on the topic yeah thing is like that there's a lot of things I've seen with my own eyes which people can try and say whatever they want about China but I know what's true and what's not because I've actually seen it both good and bad like I'm always going on about the fact that you know the histories being lost here right to a great extent and I mean it it's true and you know it's true as well right you actually have to dig and find yeah no examples of fragments of stuff that's left in reality now and it's difficult to find yeah and the thing is if it is there they want to get rid of it anyway to replace it with something new and sparkling so like like these villas yeah man this is this is one of the most difficult episodes we've talked a while and nothing is just falling I think it's like a squatters place dude like as they've jerry-rigged shitty satellites up there yeah wow this is a pretty deep abyss people living there I bet you're right I would I think I would choose somewhere less spooky I don't know I think it's kind of cool wow this is going be Taurean do but you're going in holy man it's fine as long as it doesn't reach the air box right why will it not why isn't gonna be so deep is the car house that yeah when they're missing the point you know like a lot of it the problem I have with the core articles there's a lot of the people on there said I don't know who they are and I watch their videos but if they're anything like other vloggers and I know it's a big way like then blah blah but like that's that's ridiculous you didn't even form your own opinion yeah so you're sizing us for being too general meaning meanwhile you're generalizing and grouping us with other people that's great so there's two different things but why do you think the expats hate us here I wanna see had a guy say like I hate you I hope you die send me a reddit message oh yeah look I know why they hate us it's very simple I think a lot of foreigners especially those who may have got you before us okay of course there are definitely I've never claimed to be the first foreigner in China for goodness sake you know I got here almost 12 years ago right but you get some old old guys are being sure like for for like 20 years or whatever yeah usually people who are trying to escape right kind of make a new life somewhere you know so they go get some dodgy old geezer sort of sex pad or maybe he's a nice guy you do get these older guys that have been here for a long time make it sour and they get sour because they believe that China is their own personal little discovery or something right right there's this Marco Polo syndrome which you see with all foreigners who come here yeah I mean I'm sure you yourself and even I have experienced it to some degree beginning you sure you get here and you have your little neighborhood and you find your little restaurants and you get those you get to know everybody and then suddenly a new foreigners sitting at your favorite restaurant you're like hey what the hell you doing well my my my area what's about my I mean you get that sort of done done encroach on my turf kind of thing I've correct swath here you know so I think that's one of the main reasons is these people see me and you actually getting some notoriety on the Internet Joshua walking around riding around like we do because I bet you those dudes don't come into these floor of stupid of stupid things so we're exploring more we're showing more than they ever have or they regret never having filmed anything they regret never having you know made their own vlog or blog and they see us doing well and they get sour right they get incredibly sour so they like screw those guys they don't know what they talking about I am better than them you know that kind of crap right it's just infantile nonsense you notice it is oh look they even have like 68 card why why I actually have no idea I saw that there's some people actually converted some of these old but like what are their shops into houses over days all right let's go back that way this is boring it is that was cool that we got in there anyway I think that's about it just wanted to basically even look at the entrance of this she'll of international I Cal is bein like okay this is one other thing I want to say is that my Chinese is not great I can read a whole bunch of stuff right I can read one two three four five did they're three characters I'm not entirely sure on that mm-hm okay if I sit down and I read a menu I will know seventy to eighty percent of what it is because I'm familiar with all the food stuff right that's like where there's like free lottery I can read that right I can read all this crap we can read most daily stuff I can speak enough to do everything and I mean everything yeah absolutely everything that I need to do to survive here sure I can have a conversation that's good enough but man do people brag on me about my Mandarin they're like you've been there for 12 years and your Chinese sucks and right it's like the thing is and I think people don't realize this I don't even know if you realize this but I never wanted to learn Chinese right never was it a goal of mine to learn Chinese I know this might shock people since I've been in China for so long right but I obviously wanted to learn enough so I could survive here yeah they're different I mean the key phrase here is you your Chinese is quite good it's not like you don't speak Chinese but on an intellectual level yeah of course not yeah I mean that's the thing I'm not trying to get like the HSK 22 or whatever I'm not trying to read ancient Chinese poems or anything like that that's not sure sure my goal is to survive or what a food get the guide to come and put Internet in my house you know rent rent an apartment you know sign a contract you know get work that kind of thing yeah that's that's it and I honestly I never wanted to learn Chinese it was never goal in my life sure on it and I don't ever want to be fluent right you know and I don't mean it as an insult I just never had that desire right of course I want to earn enough to be able to talk to my wife when we have a misunderstanding in English but sure she's really good right so yeah that that's the thing is people can insult me all that once about my Chinese but it's kind of like saying like well you're not fat you know right right because you're not fat I think as your journey sucks well yeah because it does and I'd never I never said that it was good right anyway a little bit of a rant there bit of a rant I episode but it's just kind of interesting to see the amount of hate that comes experts know and we never claimed to be what we are is where people that have lived in China for a long time and experienced a lot of what China has to offer true that and that's the thing as we share our experiences and it's up to the people that listen to us whether they want to what they want to take out of that right so you know at the end of the day if you want to take something positive out of it then you do you Ramona welcome if you want to take say providing free entertainment for you guys so there's nothing to complain about if you don't like what we're doing then just take a big hike absolutely take a hike man this place sucks drone footage here we probably should let's do that and then we'll sign off yeah sign off People will always be bitter about those who have/do what they themselves don't have/didn't do. For the Chinese haters, I say people only get upset at things directed at them when its true. You are making videos that some Chinese people don't like because of how accurate it depicts different aspects of society. It's not just a China thing its anywhere. People always rage more at what is said about them that is true, than what is a lie.
