hey there Michael Church and we're continuing our attic series showing you how radiant barrier can help keep your attic cool stay tuned okay so if you're new to crawl space ninja what we talk about is how to make your home more energy-efficient and improve the indoor air quality by fixing those four parts nobody ever talks about the Attic basement crawlspace and ductwork so make sure you subscribe to our channel down below and ring the notifications bell this is radiant barrier now let me give you a couple of tips about radiant barrier this is how it's supposed to be installed don't ever take this radiant barrier and lay it on top of the insulation because they can trap moisture between the radiant barrier and the ceiling which can lead to what a mold problem so if you've got a contractor trying to install radiant barrier by just laying it down on the hanok floor get that guy or gal out of your house immediately tell them you want it attached to the roof decking and watch the price change okay so I'm using my Fleur c2 camera to show you how important it is to have radiant barrier on your roof decking right now it's 70 degrees outside and it's noon and I want to show you the temperature difference between the radiant barrier and the roof look at this it's 99 degrees right there a hundred degrees right there it's only 70 degrees outside the radiant heat of the Sun is actually making this part of the roof really hot because those asphalt shingles are transferring that heat into the roof deck okay and as you can see in this everything turns blue and purple that means that the temperature has dropped dramatically we go from 99 to a hundred degrees down to 80 to 83 degrees with the radiant barrier Wow okay so another installation tip is you don't want to put the radiant barrier directly on the roof decking you need to have some kind of air gap now this is about a 10 inch air gap you really only need about a quarter of an inch minimum so that way the air behind the radiant barrier that hot air that's being trapped back here can make its way up to the ridge vent and then get out of the Attic just so you know I love radiant barrier I installed radiant barrier on my house and it was not the easiest thing in the world to do but over the years it has paid for itself and kept my attic cool which in turn keeps my house cool and if you want to know more about why you should do these kind of improvements to your attic make sure you check out the playlist that we're doing about our attic series and my name is michael church with crawlspace ninja and i hope you make it a happy and blessed day and we'll see you later
