it has been roughly three months since I switched from Android to iPhone after 13 years on Android and I haven't really shared much about that experience like I promised I would in my initial video so in this video I'm going to do a little update about how that experience of switching over to iPhone has been and in particular I'm going to go over seven things that I really like about iPhone and five things that I don't so in case you guys haven't seen that initial video I'll leave a link in the description below but I explained my main reasons for going over to iPhone and my trepidations were doing so because it was kind of a nerve-wracking experience at first but the first thing I will say is that if you are thinking about switching over to iPhone and you've been with Android for a long time like for me it had been 13 years of being on Android and it's actually really easy to get your information over from Android to iPhone I was the most worried about this whole process actually but there's an app that the iPhone has it makes it super easy to do it does take some time so you definitely want to plan ahead to do that but it was super efficient and it not only moved over my contacts and my apps and a lot of my information but also my photos and my videos they were all saved on the iPhone even though they were taken with an Android phone but as I mentioned I do use a cloud service to automatically backup my photos into videos and I did this on my Samsung and I immediately set it up on my iPhone once I got it as well so I don't use iCloud I don't use Samsung cloud or anything like that I actually use SmugMug not only can you take the photos and videos that you've taken with a camera and upload them to SmugMug but there's actually a feature so that you can automatically take any of the photos from your phone and have them automatically save to SmugMug and so this has been just a lifesaver I have it set to Auto the other reason why I like it a lot is that it has unlimited uploads I'm not sure if it's available at all tiers because you do have to I think there's a free version but I actually have one of the paid memberships because I love and use smug mug so much not sponsored by the way but I like that unlimited feature because a lot of the cloud systems out there including iCloud are you know up to two terabytes like they cap how much storage that you can actually use but smug mug has an unlimited storage feature so something really worth checking out if you don't already have a cloud backup of some kind for your phone the second thing that I've really been loving so far with iPhone is magsafe so if you are coming over from Android you might notice that iPhones are having these cases with like this little circle in the back and I wondered for the longest time what this was but it's actually magsafe and so it's a little magnet that is in the phone but you can also get some cases like the one that I have here this is actually a super cheap phone case but it has like an enhanced magnet on it so there are a few different ways you can use magsafe you can use the magnetic charger or you can get a bunch of little accessory trees to snap to the back of your phone like this and so I have converted over to I've always used pop sockets actually because I really like how you know it pops out gives you a nice grip so you can easily you know hold your phone to take videos or photos or selfies and it's just really ergonomic but now it's in magnet form and I also got the version of it that has like the little mini wallet and so this is now my wallet I just have it with me at all times and it has been such a game changer for just going out I can literally just grab my phone with the little wallet attached to it and I don't have to think twice about anything else so I love magsafe oh and the other accessory for magsafe that I really like is being able to use the magsafe phone tripod mounts because again it just makes it so fast to just pop your phone on that little magnet and you can just have a little mini tripod now I was completely new to magsafe I didn't know anything about it until I came over to iPhone but it does sound like if you do shoot Android or maybe an older iPhone there are some cases out there that can have magsafe built in so you can still take advantage of the magsafe accessories and I really recommend it because just having magnets makes things so much easier the third thing I'm really loving about my iPhone so far is the whole design and user experience so people are pretty quick to say that Android is more customizable and that's one of the main reasons why you might want to go with an Android phone and I think that's still largely true however I was surprised at how much I can customize on my iPhone I again waited until I had the iPhone 14 to even consider switching over to iPhone the last iphone I had was the iPhone 3G so it's been that long that I've been away from iPhones but one of the things I did notice way back in the day was that I could definitely do a lot more design and customization of my Android phone but but now there's quite a bit that you can customize in the iPhone there are things like the widgets and the home screen that I think is relatively new to the iPhone 14 and that's something that I think was present on Android but something I just never really took advantage of and so I just love how clean the home screen looks automatically with your Apple widgets you can of course uh you can download like third-party apps and customize your widgets and your home screen even further but honestly that's a little too much work for me so I just stick with the default Apple widgets and I can come up with some really nice clean aesthetic home screens that I really like but one little con I will say is that a lot of the widgets that are present in the iPhones are kind of catered towards iPhone products or if there's a competing product then they don't really highlight it so much like one example is you know my watch I have a Garmin watch this is the Garmin vivoactive I believe or I'll leave a link in the description below to which which watch this is but I really like it because honestly I love round facing watches so I don't anticipate ever getting an Apple Watch we'll see if that holds true but I really like my Garmin and so I didn't want to give it up or anything and I noticed that you know on Android the Garmin has a really nice widget so I can easily glance at how many steps I've gotten for the day or how much activity I've gotten and that's something that I can't get on my iPhone and I imagine it's because you know iPhone wants to pump Apple Fitness and Apple watch and so they don't really have an incentive to support a Garmin widget so it's things like that that um are a little Annoying and I can't quite customize my iPhone the way that I'd like to another thing I've really been liking about iPhone and actually using quite a bit is Siri the voice assistant and also dictation dictation is just mind-blowing like I can just talk to my phone and it like transcribes what I'm saying into like an email or a note like I never took advantage of those features when I was over with Android and you know some folks do say that the Google Voice Assistant and Google dictation is actually quite good and maybe even better than what's on Apple I wouldn't know because I personally never use those features when I was with Android even though I was with Android for 13 years but that kind of speaks to one of the reasons why I made this switch over to iPhone and one of the benefits of I had just been in the Android system for so long and even though I got new phones I never really took the time to fully look at all the features and try them out because I was just so used to the ecosystem and you know all my information was already ported over and I didn't really have any incentive I guess to try out all the features but when I made that switch to iPhone I was like okay I'm starting from scratch I don't really know anything about the phone so I actually read the manual I watched tutorials I tried new things like Siri and dictation just because I wanted to see how they worked and even though I don't have a way to really compare that experience to what was on Android I have really liked those features and I kind of wish that I had used them when I was on Android and so yeah that's just one thing if you are thinking of switching phone systems it can be really good just to break up your routine or break up your habits and you might might find new features or things that make your life better or easier the fifth thing I'm loving about iPhone and kind of what I anticipated when I switched over was FaceTime and iMessage or whatever it's called I'm not sure if it's really called iMessage but whatever they use to text and you know that was one of my biggest reasons for switching over to iPhone was the social component so many of my actually pretty much all of my friends are on iPhone and so they would always want to FaceTime or send me messages or send me videos or photos through messages and I couldn't quite do the same because it's just not the same when you're doing that on Android and you know yes I know that there are other video messaging platforms like telegram Facebook Skype you know things like that but you know and all of your friends and family are on iPhone and they all want to use one service and you're the one person that's like oh I don't have FaceTime let's use another video platform then it kind of ruins things or just it was harder to socialize with folks and you know my parents also have iPhones and so trying to get your parents to use another video chat platform is pretty difficult my mom has a really difficult time with FaceTime so convincing her to use something like Zoom is just a battle I don't really want to fight and so I've been a lot more social honestly since going over to iPhone and I've really been enjoying that another feature that I've been loving like 10 times more than I expected is airdrop now if you don't know what airdrop is it's something that if you have Apple devices like I have my iPhone if I have an Apple computer which I do and I want to transfer information like a photo video any kind of content like that and all I have to do is make sure that both devices are on Wi-Fi and then I can airdrop that content from one device to another and I can do this with my own devices I can do this with clients or friends and it just makes that whole process so fast it was one of my biggest gripes with using Android phones was how difficult it was to get my content off I don't know if it was just me or what but it was just a battle every single time now that I have Android Android now that I have airdrop I am using it all the time I'm actually using my phone more often than I used to to film you know little videos whenever I feel inspired using it for b-roll and it's just made my whole video editing workflow so much faster I've also really been loving the built-in camera on the iPhone so it has a triple camera my Android phone I use a Samsung Galaxy S10 for a really really long time and I loved that phone I actually had a really hard time giving it up just because it had treated me so well throughout the years and it was one of the big reasons why I got into YouTube in the first place was how impressed I was with that Samsung Galaxy S10 but that phone had a triple camera as well so you know that was one of the main reasons why I went for the iPhone 14 pro and not the regular iPhone 14 because the 14 is lacking one of the lenses and so loving the triple lens set up here also loving the front-facing camera the fact that I can do 4K 60 the fact that you know there's extra features like the long exposure mode on this phone so cool there are just so many cool things about the iPhone camera that I'd heard about throughout the years but never really had chance to play with and it's something that I just love like like I said before I am filming more than ever with my phone and so yeah I like that it's just more freeing if I really want to I can just head out with just my phone got my wallet with me got you know my means of connection and I can stop and film whenever I feel inspired and that is such a liberating thing so those are the things I've been loving about iPhone but there are some things that I don't like so much and a lot of these things I've gotten used to now that I'm three months into using the iPhone but at the very beginning like they drove me nuts for the longest time the first thing is how heavy this iPhone is and so yes I'm using I have a wallet now so but even if I take this off this phone and this is a super lightweight Case by the way it's just it's Hefty you know I don't even have the Max and that's why I didn't go for the iPhone 14 Max because that was already too big and heavy this is a good size in terms of the screen and everything but like it is heavy whenever I grab Martin's Samsung Galaxy s22 I'm like I'm so jealous with how feather light that thing is but with that I will say that the whole construction of the iPhone just feels so good when it's in your hands I debated for a long time if I even wanted to put a plastic case on it because you know I paid all this money for the phone and it feels so nice and so I don't really like covering it up but at the same time you know I've dropped it a couple times and so having the case just gives me a little bit of reassurance for when that happens but yeah I mean it's made out of super nice materials it is just heavy very chunky the second thing that I did not like so much about iPhone was just the gestures or the way that you swipe to navigate the whole thing like again three months in I'm pretty used to it but it took me so long to figure out how to do things on this iPhone like getting to my notifications I was like okay I saw them for a split second but how do I see them all listed like it took me weeks to figure out how to do that I had to Google it and then it took me so long to retrain my hands to swipe in the special way that you have to do that you kind of have to go up to the to the right hand corner and swipe down to see the notifications and so that just took me so long to figure out and also I really miss having like the three buttons on the bottom at least on my Samsung that just took a long time for me to get used to and it was pretty annoying at first but you know once you get used to it once you retrain your hands then it gets a lot easier the third thing that I really just like about iPhone and I still have not really gotten over this because because it really is a pain but the lightning port like I don't know why is this the only device that uses lightning like the thing with Android that was so nice is that it uses USBC and I use USBC to charge my camera gear I use it to charge my microphones to charge my computer and so yeah I could just have one cable to charge a bunch of devices now I have to carry this lightning cable to charge my phone I guess it does also charge you know like the magic keyboard and the Magic Mouse but yeah I'm so annoyed to have to carry this one cable and if I forget it then I can't charge my phone and so yeah I really can't wait for the day that Apple finally Embraces USBC on an iPhone that is rumored to happen with the iPhone 15 so we'll see if that happens but uh yeah for now we're still using the lightning cable which I don't like the fourth thing I don't like about iPhone and this actually really surprised me it still surprises me to this day but the fact that so many apps that are free on Android are paid on iPhone like so many of my apps like I was just shocked and they're not necessarily expensive but still like they're asking for money like one example is filmic pro which I really like I it's one of my favorite apps for filming videos on my phone and that is completely free on Android but on iPhone it's like what four dollars a week like there's a subscription price and it really adds up and so yeah I'm still very shocked about that honestly and the fifth thing I don't like about iPhones that I'm kind of getting used to but I still don't really like it but that's Apple carplay I didn't know much about it but honestly Android auto is so much better and I'm constantly reminded of this because Martin still has a Samsung and so he's using Android auto all the time and it just looks and works so much better than Apple carplay one example is that Android auto just got a new update where the user interface you can actually split screen it on your car so you can have two things going like you can have the maps going to navigate and show you where you're going you can have the other one be something like Spotify so you can see your playlist or control your music and that's something you can't do on Apple carplay another thing is like the maps so on Android auto you can pinch to zoom and on car play it's kind of a process like you have to like tap the little magnifying glass to zoom in and out or it's not so intuitive how you zoom into the map and so it's things like that that are a little bit dated and hopefully carplay catches up in the future so that is my three month update from switching from Android to iPhone on the whole I really enjoyed the experience sorry for the interruption my camera battery died but yes I've been enjoying iPhone I do recommend it if you are thinking about switching over I mean it's a very personal choice and you know there are pros and cons to switching from Android to iPhone or iPhone to Android Droid and ultimately you just gotta do you and do what is most comfortable to you but just know that you know the beginning can be very difficult but I would give it a few weeks maybe even a few months before deciding if you made a mistake or not and really stick with it I like I said before I think one of the biggest reasons to make that switch is just to change up your habits change up the way that you do things and it just opens up different parts of your brain it shows you apps and things that you may not have done before that might actually make your life better and so yeah I recommend changing up your system anyway if you want to see more videos about iPhone my whole experience about why I switched or some accessories that I'm using to film now that I have an iPhone then check out the videos in the links below thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next video
