welcome back to stay tuned I'm Tony Angelo and today we are building a truck I have dreamed about for a very long time my Cyclone I went out to try and buy a legitimate GMC Cyclone which if you don't know in 1991 was basically the fastest thing to 60 miles an hour in the world there were these super super quick 4.3 liter all-wheel drive turbo trucks you could buy straight from GMC they were incredible and they have really really really held and even gained a ton of value I went and tried to buy one for 15 grand which is a lot of money for me and it was supposed to run and drive good but need a bunch of other work we got down there and looked at this thing and it just didn't run right it was missing it was a disaster and it bummed me out but at the same time it inspired me to just build my own it's just a bunch of GM parts you know crammed together in the right sort of order and then the right combination and they made something incredible and we're gonna try to do just that but we're gonna do it cheaper we're gonna do it better and we're gonna do it faster I think I think yeah we'll see please take a second gonna go over to the stay tuned merch store we've got a rack of Cyclone like we're doing uh get yourself an S10 I got a short bed short cap configuration because I want it to be as truly original as possible this is a 2.8 liter truck with a five speed it's four by four the frames are totally different you have to get a four by four if you can get an 89 or later it's got a little bit more room in the engine bay and this thing is perfect I picked it up for 1200 bucks in Virginia it's basically rustery it's a perfect starting point after you get yourself a truck what you need to do is find a donor for all those all-wheel drive parts now they're not the same as the 4x4 stuff totally different than a selectable 4x4 transfer case so go out and find yourself something with full-time four-wheel drive your choices are If You're Gonna Go Old School Astro van or Bravada Oldsmobile if you get a little bit more new school there's Denalis there's Trailblazer SS's all those sorts of things that are are real all-wheel drive trucks because that's what we want we want a sport truck all-wheel drive turbo V6 Rockin so that's the plan and I found just the thing this is what I found for our all-wheel drive donor now you can get a Bravada you can get an Astro van after digging around I found this on Facebook Marketplace this is a 1994 all-wheel drive Astro van it's got the 4-3 it's got the 4l60 it's got the same all-wheel drive transfer case as the cyclone and it has the proper all-wheel drive front drive shaft so we're going to take all that stuff out and bring this truck back over and I will only owe those guys 800 bucks that seems like a steal it's it's not all there I wouldn't put her on the road I don't think she'd Pass State Inspection but for what we need it's perfect it's grimy it's gross they already stole the steering column out of it it came straight out of a junkyard uh but it's going to hopefully do what we need just fine it is oh the door doesn't close we've tried we towed all the way back like this too a little ventilation just air it out and we're gonna get on the lift and tear it apart the hood on this thing is this long so I guess it comes out the bottom I don't really know there's I can see some engine in here we'll figure it out this is straight down and dirty between the truck and this van the goal is to have a 4.3 liter v6 all-wheel drive S10 we'll have 2 000 bucks and two trucks that's good that feels like something and the Cyclone's coming check the weather alerts the Cyclone's coming batting batting down the hatches Cyclones come in Cyclone make a shelf right there you put that in a pot with some veggies you got a stew going everybody giving me a hard time about the shelves there we've got some kind of like irrigation system in the back that's what I was saying 10 minutes ago that feels Shady irrigation system yeah cool down your tires maybe some Hydroponics going on over here where are they growing in this thing what aren't they doing in this thing we have no keys right oh dude they're fancy I'm sure you can buff those out in fact put them on man-made that's what size they are there you go this is a nine attorney that's your size I'll be able to sell them to your Amish buddies no they're not black they're not black kind of fire oh yeah are they comfy no no they're not not at all take a girl out on the town there's some dancing probably put those back those guys might want them you don't want to disrupt the ecosystem that's true yeah they could be feeding something giving something shelter you never know all right I put the shoes on somebody's got to eat this granola bar he said it Jimmy you got to wash your face with this little town music somebody get in the game ugh look at these dude those are hot these are a sick pair of glitter mortens over here [Music] [Laughter] These are nice these are relatively cool cars and what's so funny is I posted this thing on my Instagram tangelo96 you want to be down and people were like yes I love those vans and I sometimes in pictures they look a lot obviously this is a disaster but people were like those things are the coolest we gotta go van racing they're not wrong they're not wrong this thing in nice shape is I wouldn't want to tear it apart I just put a turbo on it or something oh blur all right doing all the drive stuff already look at that look at that Bang I'll just take it off the dollies and push it back it's a shot yeah like same day when it changes twice yo you know you know the packaging is tight when they put the belt routing on the power steering reservoir they're like we got no space there's no flat spots here anywhere there it is sort of this guy said runs and drives good which has gone really well for us before considering here's what the throttle body looks like and there's no alternator on it the belt's still good hold on to that oh man that's 55.10 right there but a real tight in here what do you think is that it's a throttle pedal no way it's Gotta Be what else would it be shifter it's a shifter [Music] probably not nope it's not gonna hold it's got to cancel issues there our first look underneath the van uh it's obviously got some Rust issues because the lift went right through it at one point but these are a little bit built different than S10 basically like a half frame intervaling system S10 obviously uses the body on frame truck so we're gonna try to figure out the best way to get everything out there's also no room and the top side of the hood I'm assuming running this game all right so we need this drive shaft we want the front diff obviously motor transmission rear D shaft is here just hanging take that too and that's about it I don't know man it might be better just to drop the whole subframe out this whole big frame and then lift the motor out of it on the ground and put it bolted back in and send it back to junkyard right because how else are we going to start sneaking all this stuff yeah around it and I guess yeah because that's part of the frame here too but is this ear bolting I don't think this is going to slide past here well that's what they have them bolt in they did a decent I think or is that this is welded to the frame yeah that's what I'm saying you're not gonna look you gotta especially this arm here let me see this here yeah drop the whole subframe down and then lock the motor out of the top of it that's the move I think okay well then we just gotta disconnect the steering done already disconnect but not much should break a couple break you know let the brake lines hang off the firewall pull that off the firewall let that come down and start uh doing body mounts all right well I can suggest we get a bunch of PV blaster a bunch of Pabst Blue Ribbon hmm it's a couple PBS a couple different PBS and we'll hit it PBS and PBS so brake lines excuse me brake lines got to get disconnected from the frame yeah oh I can disconnect yeah I bet you can there's no way there's fluid these brake lines are shot they don't they're like nothing left they're like a rumor of a brake line that once existed there's some guy in there telling a story about Metal definitely The Backs the backs are worse than Brendan's oh buddy pulled his wires out somebody dropped that Reservoir and let's make sure that if the radiator hoses are off let's just send this thing take the upper and lower rad hose off leave the radiator in the body and go anything else gets the Sawzall set this thing out God I love the way so we are just gonna clear out everything we can get ready to drop this thing out the bottom it's very grimy and hope that it spins and hope that it's going to have it's going to come back to life for us yeah we turn this thing over or what no we're gonna find out if it spins when we turn hit the starter the first time if I was a petcock where would I be anybody have a light you can use a smoke a little something to take the edge off except that cool one dude it's like good stuff okay so I didn't really explain the plan yet if you're going to do an all-wheel drive conversion whatever power plant you have you can use the 4l60 from this which is just a rename 700R4 you use the Borg Warner 4472 all-wheel drive transfer case you use the front differential out of this thing and the front drive shaft and then you figure out whatever motor you're going to use but here's what I thought ding this is a 4-3 V6 the cyclone and typhoon had four three turbo v6s so just to let you know we're gonna put this in there cheap turbo this thing and see if we can go even faster than a cyclone on the absolute Dirt Cheap down and dirty you stay tuned style I'm so excited about it yes it could get a V8 later but right now just turbo this thing and see what it does I'm so pumped about it it's three volts out let's get more let's get it somebody punch something we got it he got it now I can see just how crusty it is yeah another 15 years and you'll know what I'm talking about I need as much light as possible ac lines gotta get broke off oh buddy usually I not get you at all I was like I feel like we were just working on Gross brake lines like two days ago I told Russo I said how did we go from working on like SEMA build to this do it all buddy a little change of scenery could be a Cuda you could eat off of underneath too this thing I wouldn't want to eat in the same parking lot as remember the firebird find out Fender covers and stuff yeah this is not that Fender covers Arch analysis yeah you gotta do it okay all right let's folded together down there but it looks like there's about zero chance it's coming out there it is wow I grab it and give it a yank yeah yeah I think you're right [Music] hey it's all in there it's all the same good there oh yeah that works [Music] what's up it's connected by something here or not hey mazel tov yup sure hold up hold up that's it there she is [Music] leaking not anymore I'm not hell yeah this is nuts there's not a lot of weight on those front arms just yeah I would say it's fine just just there's so much crap on the ground here hold up [Applause] careful go straight get this all right yeah boy slippery and Barb leaves so do the sleeves baby [Music] [Applause] okay now probably fine now for our next trip I'm gonna be right back oh okay it's a little bump there we go I love it when a plan comes together it's fine here look at that right there it is perfect perfect that's captured right what Andrew yeah I hit that so it's heavy mount front drive shaft uh and the shifter gotta come out of there oh yeah that little chicken feeding feeding the chickens [Music] now we are just about ready to snatch our 4-3v6 the all-wheel drive transfer case and this 4l60 right up and out of our Astro van half frame and see what happens give our wiggle in the back here he's gonna come back towards you to see you yeah all right keep going gonna work [Applause] [Applause] yeah that's fine you never know yep rock and roll he's free she is one old junkyard V6 sometimes we work on some pretty gnarly stuff sometimes we don't it's all fun I'm more excited about this than I've been about all sorts of dumb stuff so that feels weird I got Marie I'm real excited to throw a dirt cheap Chinese turbo kit we got on Amazon onto this junkyard four three it's exciting but if this thing runs perfectly smooth and just jams a pretty good chance yeah it's just a small block where somebody forgot to put the back two cylinders on okay don't worry that's easier don't make me do it with the engine anymore all right one under each amount one under the transmission will be invisible ready just a little bit that's good uh I think we're gonna tear out of here now is the front differential with the drive shaft on it and I guess we'll take those engine mounts just in case they're different all right we have gutted this Astro van of everything we want and it's time to send us 800 Beauty back to the scrap yard a little bit lighter this time come on down a couple left bolts couple less engines in there now that we've got the Astro van strip let's get rid of it and bring in our project Cyclone pull that out that side like everything off disconnect the throttle cable anything that comes from the body to the to the frame itself into the motor AC line all this junk so this is the 4-3 out of the all-wheel drive Astro van this is the motor we're going to use first I did my favorite thing I bought a dirt cheap Chinese turbo kit for this thing and we're going to jam it into our S10 make a whole bunch of all-wheel drive horsepower and try to go fast for dirt cheap if you're keeping up right now here's what we've got in this thing 800 bucks for the motor and everything we needed to go all-wheel drive out of the Astro van 1200 bucks for the S10 I'm not great at math but that leaves me at two thousand dollars and believe it or not this turbo kit lists on Amazon at 640 bucks 641 and that comes with manifolds wastegate turbocharger a whole bunch of stuff oil lines I'll give you a full total when we're done but it's we're going we're going lean on this one and that's my favorite way to go unless it's steak or burgers then we like it fatty so Zach came through pulled off the serpentine system gave this thing a nice coat of barbecue black it looks eight million times better believe it or not inside this engine looks pretty fantastic so that makes me happy and what's the craziest part of all this is that this Amazon turbo kit comes with cast manifolds which is sick because here they just last forever as long as they seal up all right we're excited about it I gotta move that a little bit but cast manifold over tubular is like just like so much more robust not gonna crack it should hold together really well and it's got a little up pipe that connects to two very simple setup Turbo's gonna live out here crams and boosts into that carburetor about the bolt on it's going to be awesome we put on an Edelbrock part number two one one one one that is a four barrel manifold for the four three [Music] and it is the way to go we're just gonna do you know blow through turbo setup as opposed to trying to deal with the old spider fuel injection or re injectifying this thing with any fancy parts this will be my first time dealing with any kind of blow through carburetor stuff outside of just exploding to rodson when I drove it years ago I just took this little intake tube off and I guess the mices made a home out of it that'd be nice and cozy I'm gonna say how did it run so good but I did flip the air cleaner over yeah so performance stuff I just threw it across the shop and I saw that glob fall out and here's what we're looking at her turbo place look at that this is a T3 T4 uh six three AR on the hot side T3 style this is I believe off a t04b small one I think it's going to work awesome nice piece of Fine China if you know what I'm saying here it's going to be just right this is bolted on here yeah we can still do them that's fine I'm gonna throw the exhaust manifolds on and look at the oil drain it's from Barb wants to suck no or we've got to calm down today but is there even any water in it or have we've been running it dry this whole time so I'm checking right now give it a look see let me get the light in there um the water level is here that's fine yeah that just means the last time climate change man is it it's still gonna make you know what we should get so she's got like one of those tree like sap Taps and you just poke them to the side into the side of the line you're done cut off yeah how many high noons have you had today Mark I don't know that's an idea there hey we got a new air conditioner last night that's a good feeling thing runs on 220. nice yeah yeah it reps we have one of those in my old house my dad my dad wired he's like I just wired it into the baseboard heater and I was like wait that's 220. he goes yeah I was like so I could weld in my bathroom if I want to yeah and he goes I mean I guess you could he's like what do you have to weld in your bathroom he's like don't worry about it what's up Dad that's for meeting though it's my bathroom all right manifolds going on a little trimmy trim on that 50s so far so good oh look at that all right I'm just gonna snug these in we're gonna see how they fit uh one cool thing about these V6 is they actually came with like 200 horsepower what they 250 tour pretty good quite a bit it's our if you've ever driven a blazer with a 4-3 in it they rip so plus a turbo this thing's Gonna Fly [Music] that out of the way sweet a little bit of background on the 4.2 liter V6 and why it's so red it's basically just a small block Chevy with the rear cylinders knocked off so everything's small block on the front end fits accessories uh timing cover it's really so many parts that you're used to because it is a 90 degree V6 instead of like the 2 8 that's a 60 degree it's a totally different everything you can use a V8 transmission on this thing you can use the front drive pretty much everything it's it's really cool it's going to feel really familiar if you work on small block Chevys and it lets you get a lot of parts for very cheap so we got a bunch of small block cams in the back room just take one cut the back two cylinders off sure would work fine but no wouldn't you have to cut them off the front because you'd still need the distributor the distributor Gear Well you need the front too I don't think it's impossible you'd have to cut it glue it back together yeah make sure it's straight put it in a piece of angle to keep it flat you know all right the point of this thing is you got one turbocharger right uh One Bank of the V6 comes in here into the crossover tube feeds one side of the turbo flange this one feeds the other one it's actually a pretty sweet little system you're going to run a single turbo on a v-motor perfect I'm not mad at anybody so far this thing is sick things okay yeah that's it that's how it goes on this way guys we almost had it the other way almost one size fits manifolds are 600 bucks you'd be pretty pumped true turbo one that'd be awesome all right well so we're happy so far with this oh the engineering but we're looking at Zachary show me this is thread a diesel thread and we gotta you can drill here because you can get behind it so we can't put bolts we can put bolts in three you gotta put a stud in that one and then drill through one of these you can't just put bold in this way I don't know it has to be a stick does it go into the manifold now it's a blind hole or just do that and do the wastegate here yeah we can take the wastegate up on out of the housing I think that'd probably be better I don't know look how much bigger and much more felicious tiny we have a flat flange here with a three inch hole that we're gonna use to make the downpipe oh here it is it verocious send it over there whoo I think it's a brick over here boom yeah pretty sweet so then we'd have to sneak another one here and then try to control it with that I don't like I like the other one let's try to get it on let's try to come over the way to get on there get a little flow in her this one is not something I guess you'd use bolts on the turbo that'd be easy enough bolts through here to this little space you guys so we got to do is deal with the manifold to the spacer if you ever run one of these this is just it's a space your turbo out and give you a place to put an external wastegate a pretty applicable way to do it but they've got this thread and they've got that threaded so one of them's got to be not threaded or whatever through it it's a mock-up phase what you want to do is get all your parts and slap them on the cars have hazardly as possible just so you can look at just get that Vibe stand back put on Instagram 96 check this out what are you the real Slim Jimmy the real Slims that's the guy right there my concern here is like where is the once this is clocked where's this wasting gonna go supposedly I'll make a pipe to like put the wastegate somewhere else no just sneak it in there and down with the pipe down that works pretty cool if you ever run an external wastegate this hole here this little recess is for it's actually not just a flange or a gasket it's a valve seat a removable valve seat this is a design that came out a few years ago and you got to put this on there it will literally kill your your Boost it'll just lag like crazy so it makes you got something here has this chamfer on it that matches the valve and then when it gets bolted in it's going to suck it all together under pressure and then you'll have a working wastegate power explosions I cannot wait no no no we're not we're not doing that what explosions no explosions of fire out the turtle I always get so excited about when we whip together like just slap it thrash it yeah it's the best they always work good too when I'm like oh let's spend 2 000 years ripping it together although honestly the firebird is like the nicest thing we built and that thing is dialed and it works good but I guess this will probably go this way won't it yeah because it's going to go here intercooler back to that but just for visual sake let's put that anywhere I hear you you got it buddy doing great look at this thing here that's the video oh 100 it's going this way do what now so I think we'll pull the oil pan once it's up in the air and we'll do a drain yep but it's crazy to me already the Astro van had the diff the front differential like basically touching the front of the car and it's like three feet back and then two feedback in this thing it's gonna be better for packaging for sure it's tough to see with the two eight but we're gonna make this work and once these inner fenders are gone this AC box is gone all right so since we have a lift we're going to pull the cab right off of this S10 it's a body on frame truck so it's super easy uh you just have to disconnect literally everything that touches between the chassis of the truck and either and the body so it's just steering brakes wiring during the radiator pull that out take off the hoses ac lines power steering lines that's about it not too bad all the wiring and yeah get up throttle cable Etc if you're going to do this yourself just keep looking until you see nothing connected can anybody lock in there pretty good I think they're probably back in like the position he said can anybody roll this trash can stand it up on the tires look at that sick cowl hood we decided to pull the bed off the S10 before we pulled the tab off of it you're good we're gonna pull the head up we're gonna pull we're gonna pull the bed off we're gonna pull the bed off the S10 okay you're trying to use this used to be a World War II machine shop so it has this killer fully Pantry training I don't pull like 2 000 pounds out of the ground let's spin it stand yeah come back more and bring it down I guess you want it on your end right nice Shane is free just Lift It Up Lift It Up all right yeah the cad bolts out you took the right these are the wrong ones though there we go all right wouldn't be stay tuned without something yummy to eat so we have a very regular local slice place I'm gonna make a killer pie pepperoni and cheese that's all you need put it on your hood let's go okay A little Dusty [Music] Beauty six there it is one Buck Naked S10 I mean if you had a carburetor we could but no all roads always you just saw it through the engine harness I don't think we're driving it anywhere so much for ironic yeah [Applause] [Music] got it I got me in the face there pretty good at the end all right it's time to take this 2.8 liter yank it out of our S10 frame and just kind of toss it it's a decent running little V6 it doesn't have a lot of the power potential and uh it'll find a new home somewhere else very basic it actually runs great it's got a couple little you know replacement parts on it five speed selectable 4x4 somebody will use it for something you go crank here look at that baby coming right out right up and out step one up and out if you want to pull your engine out very easily just take the body and just knock it off it streamlines the whole process Transformer hold on hold on you're gonna snatch up the steering shaft it's about to get weird yeah we can roll the frame with the whole thing just that easy fellas grab a phone shot of this nonsense real quick very quick vido look at this thing this is Farm Fresh boys I feel like I'm running out of ram here you're you're at a rambud watch your fingers yeah go down a little bit love it I love it it does good didn't waste a lot of time putting a bunch of fluid in this transfer case that's nice didn't leak a drop not one oh there she is drawing here I had the chickens in this little chicken coop I'll tell you some fat chickens they should be making some eggs fat chickens around here oh don't go nuts on a dip like I said that's just coming out but the mouse for sure the box that crossover we're gonna have to cut and modify so I definitely get that real good grab a dub all right we've got the S10 frame cleaned up just a little bit let's get some of the grime off of this thing I'm now going to pull out the front 4x4 differential and put in the all-wheel drive one that's out of the Astro van I think it's a straight swap in the uh basically the pinion flange is different and step one is going to take off the CV axles at these flanges take the mounts out of the far out of this thing this thing should launch super the whole point of this is having like endless traction and a car that can launch everywhere that's that's the goal of this project Cyclones are super cool the reason they went zero to 60 in like four seconds in 1991 not because they had unbelievable horsepower they made 280 horsepower and a bunch of torque but it's because we have tons and tons of traction and I want to see what that's like some of my favorite old school videos from back in the day where these all-wheel drive lunatics from Japan and these suck in skylines that were like you know eight 900 turbocharged inline six cylinder beastly GTR horsepower and they would launch them and they would just like skate and be out and these Maniacs would just be steering them trying to keep them going straight I want to be that maniac it's a not too yeah but like where where is it thank you okay yanked it's definitely a tighter fit in the S10 it was the Astro van it's definitely so one thing you need to be aware of when you're converting your truck or Blazer or whatever to all-wheel drive is you need to use a drive shaft like this this has this kind of double universal joint I think it's called a Cardon joint it's a type of CV that is happy going 100 miles an hour driving a truck full time this is what you're going to see on a four-wheel drive part-time truck it has a little slip slider here to change length and just old school single U-joints that will not be happy power through all the time it's gonna have a lot of vibration it's just not set up by the way this is a proper all-wheel drive front drive shaft so that's what we've stolen out of the Astro van that's we're going to use here and the reason we're able to bolt it up in our cars because we're gonna use the Astro van front differential you see it is basically the same unit as the S10 but it has the proper flange for this drive shaft so that's what we're gonna do I've heard you can use your S10 and just swap the flange over but then you have to get the opinion just right the drag everything set up we don't want to do that we're just going to muscle in the all-wheel drive one from the Astro van bolt up that drive shaft and be ready to rock it up like that okay there she is you got a shot cool there she is Sean it's just that easy no big whoop and a half 17 by nine and a half C4 Corvette Wheels with some tires that are Beyond rotted they're in questionable shape but they were 175 bucks we didn't pay anything for them top this is uh glow it's not exactly a glow up it's like a glow over plus side legs it's like a glow plug glow over there was like a dude had a brand new set for 400 bucks remember yeah ready ready man she screams wow she's raked out I love it look at it it does look significantly better that's great that's sick here's that one [Music] yeah almost there all right let's start lowering it okay hmm okay close on my mounts here I have an oil pan and stuff all right yeah you can stand over this way super far this pedestal is definitely way wrong see it's in there yeah but good news I think is that the turbo kit is going to work just fine once we get the right mounts in there okay the whole thing's over the passenger side a little bit quite a bit yeah it's in the trans mount in there something infinitely better all right so we do not have the right mounts to put this engine in this car somehow 2.8 ones are totally different we've got pedestals from the Astro van pedestals from the S10 are the same the the mounts off the engine we have from the Astro van for the 4-3 totally don't work in this chassis uh we're gonna just dig around and figure out what it is but I'm pretty happy with everything else we did a ton of work we had to tear down one Astro van tear down one is 10 whip it all together tear this thing down clean it up scrub it drop it in uh turbo is on there for mock-up we're getting close I'm feeling pretty good I've got the all-wheel drive front differential already in there um we gotta put the rear drive shaft in have the front one shortened and then like it's going to be just hooking stuff up which is crazy we're going obviously if you haven't caught on yet four or three carbureted turbo it's gonna be awesome and will that get us in our Cyclone to be cheaper and faster and better than a real cyclone time we'll have to tell
