feels like it is day 7 000 of quarantine and i have a two-year-old who is getting really bored and hard to entertain at home i don't have that wait actually i have lots of those so i went out and i bought a used power wheel but this thing is kind of gutless we found a lot of diy guides online of using like lithium-ion drill batteries to make these things go faster but it doesn't look like it's very reliable they burn up and oh yeah not have a high enough discharge rate on the batteries yeah and so we uh we did some hunting and that's when we stumbled across a website called ml toys they have a ton of modifications for power wheels and not just this one you can do motors gears lights new sticker packs four point harnesses they've just got everything that you could imagine would be moddable on these things so i reached out to ml toys to get their opinion on the types of mods i should do on this and they were gracious enough to sponsor a build and go all out this is what they sent they sent us a 24 volt battery conversion this thing is normally 12 volts so 24 volts means at least twice as fast they're the motors and gears i believe yes so these gearboxes have hardened steel gears in them where that one is plastic but does it harden plastic probably but it's still plastic some cooling fins for the motors wiring kits for headlights and taillights and new switches a four-point harness switches and fog light kit we've got everything we're going to apply all of those mods to this and then do a quick comparison to see how much power gain we actually have and if it is still drivable by a two year old my guess is no especially since my kid can barely even reach the pedals oh no the battery's dead keep going keep going yeah you're out so there's your before speed let's uh fix it up and see if there's any improvements you probably couldn't make it slower [Music] [Music] [Music] and there is our new dash plate for where the stereo was it'll just sit in there kind of like that that'll give you your battery voltage your motor temperature on the left and right motors and then you've got your headlights and taillights and then this is going to be your brights so far everything we've done we've got our 24 volt batteries in there this will just plug into there when we're ready batteries have a fuse in line so we don't burn it to the ground and then down here the gas pedal that was the brake reduction module that you saw us putting in there so these power wheels when you let off the gas it uses the motors to the resistance from the motors to slow you down to a stop well if you're moving like four times as fast as the power wheels normally would that would be a pretty abrupt stop yes so that brake reduction module makes that less sudden we've got the new switches in here those new switches are just better optimized for 24 volts you can use the old ones but they tend to burn out after a little bit of use you're not doing the lights with the switches everything else is pretty easy and could have been done like in an hour we would have been done like over an hour ago if we weren't doing lights and gauges because these motors all we got to do is just snip these off attach the new motors and then throw them in there put the axle and the wheels back on and it's done this is what's taking most of our time but we're getting close [Music] we have this all done and back together but before we test that out and look at everything we did bless you this is one of the old gearboxes and motors this motor is quite a bit smaller than the new ones that we put in and this is a 12 volt motor the new ones we put in are optimized for 24 volts and then inside the gearbox you see you've got a bunch of plastic gears and this really thick grease so the new gearboxes that we put in have all metal hardened gears and they've got a better quality grease that they call a race grease so you know it's fast yeah we've got our dash in we've got headlights and tail lights and then this is our high beams this gives us our voltage on the battery and then this gives us left motor and right motor temperature there's our voltage left and right motor temperature just the headlights now do the brights nice tail lights perfect we do have some new stickers for the back of this we are going to put those on but we might paint it first so tbd on that now all we got to do is test the fastness the engages my favorite part it's real nice that did turn out pretty good i was not expecting something quite that fast i think it was like the first six feet my back wheels were just spinning and dan's face was just huge thanks to ml toys for making this happen if you guys want to do something similar you can with products from their website we'll have a link down in the description go and check them out they've even got other options that we didn't even pick on this and uh i think we need to just play around with it and see if uh your five-year-old likes it because my two-year-old will he died he just turned six so he's six now some co-worker i am [Music] conclusion the 24 volt upgrade and the motor upgrade are definitely worth it the steering is where we start to run into problems the steering on this is really cheap and plastic and it needs to be upgraded and my two-year-old still can't reach the pedals on it so if this video gets enough likes what we'll do is we'll upgrade the steering we will upgrade it to rc and maybe we'll do some other slight modifications paint it new stickers stuff like that [Music] you
