- [Narrator] Hey,
YouTubers, I've got a quick do it yourself video. We are installing rigid foam board against the rim joist, and sealing that up with
some Loctite PL 300 here for foam board so it
doesn't eat the foam board, or rot it out, whatever you wanna call it. And we're using DAP Alex Plus
to seal the seal plate up. So, we're taking the R 150
by Owens Corning, here, and we're turning it into this. So, this works out pretty good. It's actually saved us on our heat, because it stops the air from communicating back
and forth anywhere, and it also stops any cold coming in, and it does also for
the heat in the summer. The other thing we're doing is we're running a bead of that caulk right against this seal plate, right at the very bottom where
the concrete meets that wood. So, that's two things that we're doing. And the other part I did
was I sealed that rim joist against the subfloor, so if there's any air coming up underneath the siding
and in, that stops that. And now the one thing I do wanna mention, this is quite a hard area to reach because you're trying to get the caulk gun down in the bottom there, and it just doesn't work that well. So, there's other options you could do. You could foam and seal
it all up and that, but I didn't wanna do that and deal with the smell
or anything like that, and have to take the kids
for the day and leave. And plus those kits for
a do it yourself kit are about $300 to almost $400 or more, depending on how much you're buying. This was a pretty easy compromise. You'll have to excuse the
wiring and stuff like that. It's an old home. But basically what I did is I took this, cut it down with a big razor
and everything like that. You can see it's not
perfectly square and that, and I gotta shave it down because the joists in the
house have settled so much. So, this is one of my quick projects that I've been doing on my days off, if I got just a few minutes I can get a couple of these installed
at a time and glue them up, and it turns out like that. But I have noticed the
difference on the heating bill, and probably a little bit on
the cooling in the summer, but mainly on the heat. But I wanted to make this
for you guys and gals. It's real easy, something
everybody can do. So, I do appreciate you guys give a like or a subscribe on here,
it helps out the channel, especially nowadays on YouTube. And thanks for watching, have a good one. Don't work too hard, bye.
