hey there guys welcome back to my channel my name is anna sophia for those of you that are new here and if you are new please consider subscribing because i post home decor diy content every single week my husband and i are a military family who recently bought a house and moved from scottsdale arizona to washington dc come along with us as we decorate organize diy and deep clean this new house on a budget in the series from house to home [Music] in this video i'm gonna share with you guys the four ikea products i flipped for my diy craft studio the first ikea flip we're gonna do is the ikea ps cabinet this cabinet retails at ikea for 99. but i happened to pick this one up off the side of the road and i knew why they threw it away because it was missing some major parts for example when they threw it away they did not throw away the key with it so i did have to take off that keyhole system as well as the fact that they didn't have the back or the shelves in it either which was fine because i'm just putting some camera equipment and my printer in here so i didn't need either of those things but i won't bore you with all the little details i had to do to fix the cabinet because if you're buying this from ikea outright you shouldn't have to do any of the weird things that i had to do so let's just get right into the flipping part before i do any sort of a flip i always look to inspiration as to what i want to turn this into there was nothing wrong with this cabinet it just felt very like college-y to me kind of like a locker room you use in grade school so i wanted to give it a once over with some black spray paint and then we are actually going to be using contact paper for the top i saw this metal cabinet on overstock where it was black on the bottom and had a wooden slat on top and i thought it looked so chic this contact paper i chose was from amazon and it was 9.99 for one roll and i used the entire roll for this top piece like anything else the contact paper that you choose is very important because i feel like the one that you might find at dollar tree is just the quality is not going to be there and this one i feel like was really nice really good quality and i feel like it looks super realistic the first thing you want to do is start with one end of the contact paper and use a putty knife or use something that has kind of a slatted edge to make sure that your contact paper is going over nice and straight even though you can make it as straight as possible there will be some air bubbles so one of the tips i learned when you do have air bubbles is to take a needle and kind of puncture the bubble and then just kind of smooth the area over it because you're not gonna see that little poke that you just made but you will see a bubble so i just did that repeatedly until i got all of the air bubbles out if you're really good at wrapping gifts you'll be very good at using contact paper because it's a very very similar concept you just want to make nice straight clean cuts and you should be in good shape i did learn that when it comes to the corners it was better to just kind of make a diagonal cut and then kind of fold over which made it look a lot more seamless and now that we got our contact paper all on top it's time to just deal with the knobs now the knobs that i chose had to be big enough to fill that hole that we had removed the keyholes from something that wasn't included was like a washer or something that you could put on the other side of the cabinet to prevent the screw from just coming right through so you needed something as like a barrier i didn't have a washer so i actually just took this old sort of circular piece from a different knob and it worked out perfect i feel like the knobs that you choose can dramatically affect how a piece ends up turning out so these are kind of i mean four dollars each which is kind of expensive for knobs but if you only need a few of them it's worth the money and as you can kind of see in this clip i already have my printer nicely tucked away back there it has room to be there which is great and i don't have to see it all the time so let's tally up how much i spent for this flip so the cabinet was free because i picked it up off of the side of the road the spray paint i needed two cans so that was about seven dollars the knobs were 7.99 and the contact paper was 9.99 so for under 25 i have a super chic cabinet that you would never know i literally picked up off the side of the road [Music] for the next ikea flip it's actually going to be a really similar concept so i'm just going to kind of buzz right through it but we are going to be flipping this ikea fig desk which still retails at ikea for 99. i happened to pick this one up off of facebook marketplace for only 20 bucks so it was a really nice deal but obviously like there was like some weird situation happening on the top but it didn't matter because we were gonna cover it anyway the first thing i needed to do was just flip it upside down and just spray paint the legs black to match the cabinet that we just flipped and obviously it's not in perfect condition and it's not like i really wanted to preserve what was underneath here but i am one of those people who is just like a messy diy er like things are splattering and spilling everywhere and i thought that it might be a better thing to just use the contact paper because it's easily wipeable or if it does get really damaged i can just recover it as my style and as time changes so i felt like it was a good option because if i were to use like a real wood desk that thing would never survive with my diys i'm just folding the corners over as i did in the previous flip but one thing i did do differently was i had something to actually be able to tuck it under which was nice and i wanted to make sure that that seal was really nice and tight so a little trick you can do is just use a blow dryer and that will act as like a double adhesive to make everything really nice and really like stick well together so doing the math on this one the desk itself was twenty dollars i needed one can of spray paint which was about 350. two rolls of that contact paper makes this under 45 for a brand new desk my the next flip they actually do not sell this frame at ikea anymore this is the undrill frame but i actually picked this up off the side of road when i lived in las vegas many many years ago and i never did anything with it because i didn't really like it white and i guess it was probably black because the back is black i'm not really sure comment down below if you know the origin of this frame and is it supposed to have a mirror is it supposed to be a picture i have no idea i just have the frame this is all i have but i've been seeing at some of the high-end stores they are just hanging the frame without anything in it and they're gold and they're really like ornate frames so i thought it would be a good idea to just spray paint this frame gold but i want to antique it a little bit to make it look more like vintage and less glam so i'm using this metallic gold spray paint by krylon which this spray paint is expensive but honestly the quality is so there it has like a nice pink undertone and it looks really like polished and clean after i let my gold spray paint on this frame dry completely it was time to give it that more antiqued appearance so i've seen a bunch of different ways you can do this but this is just the way i did it because i feel like it's the easiest and the cheapest so you just need a few things if you have like a dark gray or a dark brown spray paint just use that but i didn't so i'm just mixing these two paints together and you almost want to get the color of dust after you do that you're just going to dry brush the frame in the most detailed or most ornate parts of the frame to give it a more vintage appearance and after you paint it on don't let it dry go ahead and take an old rag and just kind of wipe off some of the excess but enough so that you can still see the detail that you just painted on i feel like it's really hard to see the detail on camera but in person it really does make such a difference so the krylon spray paint is about 12 and the acrylic paints were only a dollar each so for under 15 i have something really beautiful really vintage inspired and i think it just fits the room so nicely hello [Music] for the last flip in this video we are actually going to be flipping the marius stool the marius stool is 5.99 they do still sell it at ikea which is a really nice price to begin with but honestly the top of it just looks cheap and plasticky so i've had this wooden kind of plank thing that i picked up from the thrift store and i never really know what to do with it so i'm actually just going to flop the tops out for one another this is probably going to be one of the easier flips of the bunch because literally i'm just taking the top from this one and exchanging it for the wooden plank the only thing i really needed to do was unscrew the top and then i removed the bumpers off of that tray which i understand why they're there because you don't want to scratch your table but i don't need them and i didn't want anything to be uneven when i was gonna screw the wooden plank to the base [Music] so after i removed all those little weird bumpers i had to sand some of them off because some of them were on there like really really well and after i did that i just flipped it upside down and i wanted to pick a screw that was not obviously going to puncture through the top but enough to give it a nice secure hold [Music] before i fully committed to the placement i just screwed each screw down about 70 and then when i determined if it was like the right spot i sealed the deal and screwed them in all the way so the marius stool is only 5.99 and that wooden plank i had got from the thrift store was i think 2.99 so for under 10 bucks you have a cute little side table that looks so much better so much chica shaker is that a word and that is it you guys for ikea flips for such an affordable price that i was able to completely fill this room with pieces that i love i hope you liked today's video if you did please make sure you give it a thumbs up and don't forget to hit that subscribe button because i
