If you want to know how I made all these fashion pins using as main material foil trays, the type you use for keeping food and a whole lot of nail enamels stay here and watch the video! Make your own Fashion pins recycling foil trays I am going to recycle several of these foil trays that are used to keep the food These ones have actually been used to keep food, I washed and dried them and now I cut the base with scissors to make the most of them. Using a credit or shopping card, I flatten the alluminium piece that I have just cut Here I have an stencil I made with the motifs I drew to make the pins if you don't want to make your own drawings and you prefer to use the same ones as me you can download the free stencil from my blog You will find the link in my blog to this downloadable file in the description under this video Place the printed stencil on top of the foil and mark the drawn lines of your chosen motif on the paper using a biro pen that doesn't write anymore or one of these ball tools, the kind you use to decorate painted nails because this tool is finer than the biro it gives me more precission when working so this is the one I prefer to use Before taking the stencil off the foil make sure you have marked over all the lines and then you can take the stencil off Place a soft cloth under the foil and start redrawing over the same lines to make them deeper Flip the foil over and you must redraw around the lines you have just marked so you redefine them and make them pop even more Define them as much as you can, you can even push to make them thinner the better you draw and define the prettier the pin will be If you want the pin to look exactly like the drawing you have on the stencil paper (not a mirror image) before marking it, turn the stencil over and taking advantage that the print can be slightly seen on the other side of the paper, mark if from behind this way the image you mark on the foil will have the same orientation as the drawing in the stencil Turn around all the pins you have marked because now we are going to fill them with a paste I have a video in Spanish explaining how to make this paste, to cut it short you can make it mixing powder plaster with white wood glue till you make a thick paste, then add a few drops of white acrylic paint and mix, so the paste will dry quicker Use a spatula to spread the paste on the back of the pins if you don't have an spatula you may use a popsicle stick, for example Make sure you fill in all the lines you marked on the foil and flatten the paste on the back of the pin Clean the paste stains on your working surface with a damp cloth before they dry and remember to clean the tools, when this paste dries it is quite hard to clean To make the pink flamingo legs I will shape a paper clip I cut it and I bend it using pliers and wire tools I shape them till they resemble the shape in the stencil drawing as you see in the video I fill in the foil with the flamingo drawing with the filling paste I cut the shape of the flamingo thighs on the foil and I glue the legs with the fill paste to the flamingo body using the stencil as a reference I add a little more paste on top Let the paste on the pins dry To make the flamingo feet I cut some foil triangles and fold them in half over the end of the wire fill them with a little paste so the stay glued in place I reinforce the top of the wire legs adding a bit more paste and a piece of foil To cover the back of the pins I cut some pieces of black cardstock slightly larger than every pin and I paint them on one side with transparent nail enamel to make them stonger specially to the damp paste so they won't get wavy Spread more fill paste on top of the one that is already dried and glue the enameled cardstock side to the back of the pin The pins are ready to be painted! I like to combine many different colors and mix both bright and metallic enamels Take care not to paint over the relief marked lines marked As it is prettier if they stay that silvery color Combine in a pretty way all the enamels you have and, if you need so, mix different colors to make the ones you don't have, as you will do with paints As you see here that I mixed two colors to get the popscicle stick color and I also mixed them to blend the popsicle colors Here you can see I made a mixture with different enamels to make the chocolate brown for the icecream Once the enamels are dry you can cut the shape of the pins around the edge of the relief line use scissors or an scalpel or x-acto knife Push the pin borders pressing the edge with a tool and the result is very pretty Make this with every single pin Here I have them all! For the pin I can use any of this alternatives either a pin closure or a brooch style closure I chose the pin style I cut a foil circle with a punch to reinforce the pin base you can also cut it with scissors Pin the needle in the center of the foil circle glue the pin to the back of your foil pieces I add a bit more glue around and put the foil circle on top to reinforce the union and press with a tool to get good contact of the pieces I paint the edges of every pin with silver enamel to cover the fill paste that may show around the edges Paint the back of the pins with more enamel to make it look prettier Once it is dry turn it around and paint all the front with transparent enamel so you will get a high gloss finish I pin them on a supermarket expanded polyestyrene trays This way it is easier to get them to dry and paint them I applied a second coat of transparent enamel, a thick one will look so much better! Let them dry for a couple of hours Then I put the secure piece of the pin on ...and here I have my new whole collection of pins ready to be worn!
