[Applause] they're ready we're ready we hope you are too we'll send you to Dick Enberg and Bob Humphrey for the call right after these words from your local station when the football game that's the problem today they could not San Francisco Dallas and Pittsburgh are convincingly in the Final Four either the Dolphins or their Chargers will fill the semis it should be a battle of top guns and aerial attack and appropriately the Navy up four teams from nearby Miramar Naval Air Base with a flood they'll become great friends because they're both cut from the same cloth you can look in their eyes you see the spirit the tempo of this game and joining us down on the field here in San Diego is John Dockery Thank You dick I spoke to both coaches moments ago Bobby Ross talked about his offensive line being the key able to run the ball keep the ball with Moreno Don Shula talk about intangible momentum about magic and playing continuing to play as well as they played last week against Kansas City should be a great game kick back to you alright doc great to have you with us and we're set to go boss Ross the immortal Don Shula Irving spikes number 40 otay McDuffie deep short toward the sidelines from Penn State written out of bounds at about the 33 yard line here coach Dan Marino and the Miami offense they are built around strength on the left side Webb and Simms are Pro Bowlers with him in the backfield Dan Marino and it's been a rebuilt backfield with injuries this year Saxon and Parmelee the leading rusher prior McDuffie outside with all-pro Keith Jackson a tight end when they go to three wide Aaron cravers signed when Keith Byars went down and Scott Miller for the injured Mark Ingram we'll enter the contest but it at the 34 Marino's first myth [Applause] to the San Diego 36-yard line before Stanley Richard can make that tackle Moreno right on the money threading that one through San Diego traffic great play-action fake here by Dan Marino Jackson releases outside of hims 94 it's right by the linebacker Gibson and he's wide open I mean it's one of the things you know about San Diego's defense Dickens there's lots of zone if you can call back there go find receivers open deep down the middle Moreno first down at the charge of 35 and spikes behind him in motion Heathrow under pressure don't think [Applause] mainly Richard the safety coming in from the left side Blitzen I'm sparker the defensive coordinator of San Diego's going to pull out some stop here's the Blitz most people say when you played Dan Marino you've got to get pressure in his face they try Stanley Richard is right there but Marino with that release is still able to get the ball off this should have been intercepted are we nuts in games like this that's an opportunity you have to make you've got to catch that interception [Applause] the ball just as marina was talking it to throw [Applause] this is significant top of the screen he beats Ron Hillier bim's does who last week Ron Heller shut up he'll smith no tackles no sacks give Mims a sack on that play he had 11 during the regular season he's in his third year from Tennessee O'Neill led the chargers with 12 and a half so they can put pressure from either corner NIM third and ten no time to find it off [Applause] one of the things that Dan Marino told us is you've got to have confidence in your past protection well here mims straight outside move on Ron Heller he's got a bad left shoulder but mims comes inside there's also pressure from Raley Johnson on the outside thomas-john kid the former charger hunter [Applause] signed at bid season and he lost the high one Gordon lets it go and it's kiss hey San Diego bounced into the end zone [Music] back it'll be stand Humphrey sir well after holding Miami William Stanley Humphrey says this offensive line watch three hundred and twenty pound Ricky Isaac Davis he'll be blocking Boehm's in the back through it filled with Humphreys Natron means leading the Russian for the charges fourth in the NFL Jefferson and say the outsiders young and Kapono in the double tight end they use a lot of Wham blocking Ronnie Harmon could be the key in this game he comes in in the San Diego posse a great receiver tied for the team lead Tony Martin a former dolphin also will come in there's Harmon played in Iowa and he is caught in the last three years 210 passes most of any NFL running back they start with means and kikuno in the backfield and Humphreys to throw he does that's on Jefferson it appeared he was out of bounds anyway Vincente macabre so both teams come out stretching the defense with a long pass on the first play trying to leave a message for the other team no no no Natron means we run the ball a lot but we can throw it to it you can't cheat those defensive backs up and Humphreys at home man you practice that all we always made that completion Ronny Harmon comes in they sprayed at this time [Applause] means by the shirttail and dropped for a 4-yard loss Marco Coleman who played for Bobby Ross when they won the national championship at Georgia Tech it's crossbones cling pile and Coleman on the front floor for the Dolphins their linebackers Aubrey beavers a rookie and then Jesse Solomon actually would be third on the list because Chris Singleton and Dwight Hall you're injured Vinson and Brown at the corners and steward and Atkins the safeties means out Harmon in the backfield third and 13 Tim bones out in pest situations for Miami [Applause] I'll pass braxton the former Denver Bronco in as an extra defensive back to deny Ronnie harmony dick watch cried Cox here this is a four-man rush of four seven defense by Miami and Brian Cox although not as big as most pass rushers great speed has that good second move put a lot of pressure on Stan Humphries Miami's defense has the answer to San Diego three and out and Brian Wagner from cal state northridge to the punter he sends out of beauty [Applause] 2:35 pounds at the 46-yard line marina will have good field position after that 51 yard buddy charges winner goes to Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh the hometown the AFC championship awake from his own 46 Saxon in motion and the first family by less Leone [Applause] [Music] the San Diego defense we've already seen Chris NIMS in how he can destroy plans Lee and Davis both over 300 and O'Neal led the team in sacks Briggs a former dolphin Gibson of X Lion say how at all-pro Gorton and Harper at the quarters in Carrington and Richard are the safeties in the dime Willy Clark the rookie from Notre Dame and Sean Vann Horace Center [Music] underneath Marino goes and he's just shy of a first down to OJ McDuffie Dennis Gibson the tackler we talked with Dan Marino yesterday it has been felt since early in the season that that Achilles injury just did not heal properly and we asked him point-blank what do you think and he's been he's the kind of guy would never complain would what not want you to know he's been playing in pain with that that Achilles he said it looks as if I may have the operation I'll find out I'll get an piñon or two he made the Opera as soon as the season ends [Applause] Richard on the safety side the sheriff from Texas bill arms Brandon Sheila callin the shots look at those two defensive tackles they're pointing right in towards the center and you see Stanley Richard again safety flips are one blitz orange Barger the defensive court in has got a lot of tricks I'm gonna pull them out early here to give the Miami offense a lot to think about it second punt Gordon who returned to four touchdowns during the season at the 15-yard line 32 yard punt no return five minutes gone opening quarter is to see playoff intensity all's I can leave an impression on your opponent Sean Lee says to John kid it's honest don't be a tough day for you you're a - this isn't pinky League oh yeah this is Sean Lee that's right shieldon first time in motion [Applause] say say have 58 catches the son named Harmon for the club lead this year Yael he admitted that the disaster two years ago at this time in Miami 31 nothing dolphins where he didn't do much at all as you can see was his worst game and frankly said I've never looked at a poor film doesn't want to yeah but at the same time he also admitted look we were just happy to be in the playoffs we're not really playing to Miami's level this year we do believe we belong nature and pull closed in a hurry as means as to the 20-yard line a game oh five maybe six Jeff cross and the Brian Cox on the stop means a rookie last year out of North Carolina backed up Marian butts they thought so highly of Natron means they said we'll see you Marian we think this kid can do it that 343 carries that's the only thing that bothers me second most in the league behind Emmett Smith that's a lot of work [Applause] [Music] it's initial first I'll get what the San Diego is doing here is putting Miami in a real ticklish situation this is Ronnie Harmon and he's coming in motion but Miami has its base defense so when you have Ronnie Harmon in there against your base defense you've got a linebacker on him or you go so and here Jefferson finds the scene and it's an easy completion for Stan Humphries now that's something that San Diego can exploit see how they're gonna cover Ronnie Harmon 16 yards on the play [Applause] - Tony mark [Music] one of those charges that has had a big big play this year a 99 yarder he have was ik and a let go in Miami they kept OJ McDuffie in his place and actually he made a lot of drops in Miami Dan Marino kind of lost confidence in him but he did say when he left Miami Don Shula treating him very fairly wished him good luck said hey we think you're going to be a great player someday we can invest the time in his former college quarterback first catch he ever made was in the pros [Applause] [Music] he says the coach is so funny he doesn't even know he's funny yeah well except when you do something wrong the coach is not funny Sheila hopes to get that cast off his Achilles operation and be on his feet he said by Super Bowl time [Applause] [Music] in 20 minutes but one thing about San Diego maybe stop once or twice but they'll keep giving it to him you see the good pole Isaac Davis and also Gary swing nice sweep run by San Diego just blows Miami off the line of scrimmage this is a powerful offense San Diego has a year ago means had a terrific day against the Dolphins rushing as you can see first down at the 35 [Applause] down Eric the enemy had given memes break on this play but up here the Chargers had two men in motion ball stark 87 young the San Diego cannon going all the way back to the Bell a charger San Diego Chargers Barron Hilton Bay's signaling a big play touchdown for San Diego I've got some cannons on this offense down means Humphries first and 15 [Applause] running through Plus before Brian Cox can make the tackle short yardage there but this has been a team San Diego with big place 7 over 70 Martin 99 yards in Seattle 90 yards punt returns George Coleman kickoff 90 yards Coleman kickoff touchdown 80 yards Gordon 75 yard punt return touchdown 73 yard interception economic a seven over 70 for San Diego but that's not what they wrote oh they want to be slow and steady today he took time on the clock I'm second down screen demands breaks out of this [Applause] that the 21-yard [Applause] that's just his hip formal of the season created in 43 times is an excellent receiver but the ball has tipped away by Coleman I believe 90s it out of his arm Jessie Salomon recovers for Miami at the 21 something that Bobby Ross nor any coach enjoy saying but especially San Diego very infrequently do they give up the ball in fact they fumbled an NFL low 14 times the past two seasons dolphins on the first turnover start from the 21 [Applause] finding some Running Room first down out to the 34-yard line before Richard and Harper can make the tackle 13 yards for Bernie Parmalee you look at natrone means lead blocker sex and an excellent blocker good cut by Parmalee right here to the outside runs out of the armor Reuben Davis when this guy's a specialties player was a special teams captain and a good preseason and Don Shula couldn't keep him out of the lineup here's junior se out being hit by James 2nd Saxon that is an excellent block by Saxon first down my [Applause] portal [Applause] a great throw to the men so urban fire had a career year Miami this season was 73 catches 17 yards on that play dick watch one of the greatest attributes that dan Marino has he avoids that first rusher you see Leslie O'Neil comes from the outside just takes that little hop up always looking down the field for a receiver Neal makes a good noodle but Moreno gets himself out of the way of jeopardy there and still next to completion first down San Diego changing place [Applause] [Music] Richard coming up had a shot at a pig and once again Moreno gets the ball off but Mims knocks him down Miami has had its greatest difficulty scoring early throughout this year it's hard to believe that Moreno does not have a touchdown pass of his 30 not one in the opening quarter that is hardly I don't understand why that is they said that this there is generally a lot of experimenting going on by Miami what defense do we see against this particular dinah distance and use of personnel so maybe that accounts for it's a kind of pass that that gives shivers to Don Shula bouncing high into the secondary Dennis Gibson made the break on Aaron Craver the one thing Miami has done historically longtime they like to throw it to running backs and Aaron Craver to Tony Nathan I think started it for Miami Jim kicked it and they've developed that offense where with motion and with formation they try to release a receiver dr. either this time it was there in flavor third [Music] then for time to pass rush which was third best in the league in sacks [Applause] prior open first down inside the 30 Castle an extra defensive act made the tacit 19-yard excellent pattern here run by fryer extra defensive back in the ballgame the fire big strong it's zone he reads it properly makes a good sharp cut in their home Reno certainly has confidence in Irving fryer never had a better year fryer the first player selected in 84 by New England next his top mark 73 catches seven touchdowns yards today third and ten Marino gets the first down at the charger twenty nine to the 10 and Keith Jackson has me Dwayne this is the tight end out now beautifully executed Ianelli watch Marino keep himself alive a little slide step great confidence there's a blitz coming by San Diego Carrington was the closest man in coverage of course they watch this out and up see the plates going knows it's man-to-man Carrington looks back Jackson turns it up Marino puts him right on the money first and goal [Applause] Parmalee no gamejr sale [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Jr and our conversation with his tolling that bonus that his left arm is still a problem he's got a next stinger his arm goes numb and I said well what do you feel about it well it needs a lot of rest I got I didn't have enough rest to get completely healed but I'm about 90% and I can play through the pain spikes and [Applause] now the chef by Stan Lee Richard for the second time they bring the safety on it was so thick what San Diego is doing those motion here's Keith Jackson coming in motion then the San Diego Chargers are coming with a blitz I mean it's it it's point/counterpoint here actually Keith Sims the left guard cause an excellent job to come out there and get a helmet on Stanley Richard hits Richard right in the side of the helmet Jen and receiver was one flavor out of the flat [Applause] keep in touch [Applause] Moreno directing a groin all the yardage significantly through the air and Keith Jackson with an 8 yard strike the veteran from Oklahoma says next year will be his last year dick that time Miami ran motion and there was no Blitzen there should have been if they blitz each Jackson gets held up at the line of scrimmage [Applause] Pete's Toyota Vitz with a try after [Applause] dan Marino has thrown a touchdown pass in 12 consecutive playoffs that's an NFL record Jr say out drunk Keith Jetson runs a little circle route that quick release and before any defensive back and get there Jackson scores stadium where the Dolphins have struck first seven nothing a 79 yard drive in nine plays after Natron means fumble and keep Jackson with the eight yard touchdown catch from Marino I'm Greg Coleman now the kick return artist or is he from Kansas State for San Diego took two back four scores this year dianna [Applause] place it's not there the tackle at about the 26 yard line dick back to the touchdown here's McDuffie in motion and this is Jackson Stanley Richard with McDuffie releases van horse comes with him and it's a simple n route by Keith Jackson they're expecting some pressure on Dan Marino but again when he breaks instant inside Stanley Richard somebody blows to coverage because nobody's there watch how open he is there is a moment's hesitation by Stanley Richard 24 and Jackson's in the end zone means trying to get too much with the fumble at the 21 Salomon recovered and that led to the 79 yards first down a Raider running play for Harman on to the 32 during the season he carried only 25 times his role usually in the passing game where he caught 58 and he comes out and Eric the enemy comes in I think one of the things they want to do with Ronnie Harmon it just create that that little bit of indecision in Miami's defense are they going to throw to him or there or are they gonna hand to him it that it changes what you do defensively a great deal second down for this is Eric the enemy a former star at Colorado finish the third or the Heisman in 91 looks to have close to a first down [Applause] going to measure Johnny Greer our referee today [Applause] [Music] now the Vicksburg Steelers Congrats the bill counters team a very impressive winner yesterday and undoubtedly a day in which they'll have time to watch this one and the interesting to listen to the cheers as to whom they hope they'll be facing on Sunday night's I think their response all we don't care not in Pittsburgh in the middle of January but we'll take a team from San Diego we'll take a team from Miami come on in to Three Rivers Stadium bring on the cold and snow yeah we don't care which one third down and inches [Applause] Hendrickson purpose Henrickson is they blocking [Applause] but it's Humphreys who sneaks it ahead didn't get much but didn't eat much first what a day thank goodness the weather is cleared at least for a few hours these aerial shots courtesy of the Goodyear blimp eagle based in Carson California more rain is on the way they predict three storms are lined up out in the Pacific and they could hit sometime early evening but that's about the only blue sky folks in this part of the Southern California have seen for quite a while waist-deep out here earlier in the week one [Applause] [Music] first down San Diego up to the 49 48 yard that last touchdown Miami has put a little bit of pressure on the San Diego offensive game plan this is a simple route choice by Stan Humphries he takes the square in JB Brown the closest man in coverage nice first down pickup by the charges if they don't have to change a thing or be patient but they got to get the ball in the end zone first quarter complete in Miami with the late Chiefs territory wearing 19 she really she threw the ball over 50 yard she is impressive Eric the enemy for they tryna knees we don't know if means is injured [Applause] the first play of the second quarter Michael Stewart made the tackle it means obviously is okay dick look at the old man pull here is Dan Brock 67 and a loser's is putting a little bit but gets a good hit on Jesse Salomon Eric the enemy breaks behind him charges whether it's means whether it's the enemy they have the chance to control the line of scrimmage here against the Miami Dolphins I got to stay with the game plan but they've got to answer that's going dry first very 41 thank to means praise the Jefferson and it's offline as Humphries went down hit as he threw Margo Coleman and Tim Bowens in on the San Diego quarterback I'm a possession and of course part of the themes this week for San Diego was to keep the ball away from Moreno you generally get in an NFL game 12 offensive possession 6 ahead sandy is always thinking look if we can cut it down to seven or eight and make Dan Marino go the long field and we can neutralize him a little bit well the first Drive was 79 yards but it's got to have to be a long long field to neutralize Maria [Applause] [Music] [Applause] endeavoring the main Commandments after his fumble to the 38-yard line at nearly 400 beers the rookie from Oklahoma made the stuff he has a bruise on the outside of his left knee that may be why is coming off the peel with a slight limp and it's that week off kind of freshened his legs a little bit but the the bruise doesn't require any taping or anything but it it does begin to ache when he takes hits on it talk about eggs what part of that body do you try to take the put the shoelaces [Applause] [Music] and almost intercepted by Brian Cox Troy Vincent covering marks a Circle Route run by Mark say Justin underneath they're going for the shore for the dining version here and they're going to go for it on fourth down they had man coverage Dan Humphreys makes the right choice but they can't make the reception go on fourth down and seven the Chargers go forward at the 38 yard [Applause] emotion [Applause] motion and again little crowd over things like he's going outside comes inside stick velcro oh it's mine later like he's got a first baseman's mitt do exactly that in private practice two days ago one handed local Parma give San Diego life on fourth and seven and means boroughs inside the 20 big that fourth-down attempt all in in San Diego keep it out at Dan Marino's hands I have great confidence in my offense Bobby Ross makes the call you got to give your offense a chance to win the football game and on fourth down and six or seven what's the big deal [Applause] second and six they're not great [Music] [Applause] [Music] whistles that ten-yard play [Music] Alfred soprano Weber State dick nobody covered for uno at all now understand he's the size of a guard but he does wear an eligible number so someone is going to have to cover that was an easy completion for staying Humphries I mean it was nobody between him and the receiver the pono is in there as their tight end blocker Joe Gibbs Oh relate to his role very well it's much like that Washington offense had big title down Warren [Applause] first and goal fake to me throw it away Miami defense they had two defenders on the two receivers that were out on the pattern they try to get both young and Mitchell that too big they call them tight ends rates backs but they're basically guards with eligible numbers good coverage by Miami 7-nothing dolphins 1125 remaining in this first half time [Music] [Applause] 4:13 [Applause] seconds you see the confidence they had a means in his offensive line in double pole the kozo and brach also come around there and John means lowers his shoulder there's just not much to hang on to rushing for means in this first half he gets the ball to the two yard No [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] well [Applause] and Michael Stewart who made the big play and stripping the ball from Marcus Allen in the Kansas City when a week very close to go fund 100 the other whiskey was no dick because they threw on 2nd down and it took them out of the idea that they could go for all four downs here this is definitely for down area Oh Kearney to try what amounts to an extra point that will count for 3 is Gilbert holds a 20-yard field goal Kearney on his way to the Pro Bowl the leading scorer in the NFL this year 38 field and he gets San Diego [Music] 35 yards and 72 yards one ended in a fumble the other in just a field goal yeah sorry good news and bad news they got the ball they kept in a long time just three points out of those two drives not enough bitching for his next chances carnie kicks it off McDuffie and spike Sadiq [Applause] [Music] [Applause] she's the same one and Hendrickson though it is number fifty-four Doug Miller who makes the tackle at midfield the Swift marina ordered good field position no Jay forty-two [Applause] open receivers Duffy first down at the 41 of the charger Darian Gordon and we on the Chargers personal foul unnecessary roughness number 21 defense Darian Gordon in the left corner on his coverage Bobby Ross I think thought his team grew up a little bit a couple years ago but this is a very childish and foolish play at that point I mean knowing that your defense has got a short field behind you one of the greatest joys of the football in the game he's staring right at the sideline that's ends up being something like a thirty-year 25 or 30 yard play here 26 at the 26 [Applause] he's inside the 20 yard as Dwayne Harper unable to bring him down the initial head Dennis Gibson and Reuben Davis finally got into the turf and NC dick now which with the ball position in Miami has they can run every part of their offense this is the little drag slant the slant was to McDuffie it's covered he goes to the drag by the tight end and you starting to see now San Diego it's not working so they're starting to try more than they should here keep your head Sandiego keep your head [Applause] Irving fryer first down at the 14 I think we were told by members of the San Diego charges that they wanted good tight coverage on the outside receivers try to reroute them try to at least take Dan Marino away from his first reach to this point in this game they've done none of that they have flinched hiss but they've not rerouted these receivers McGuffey and fryer both big bold strong [Applause] McDuffie left fryer right [Applause] from Ball State able to get back to the line of scrimmage Dennis Gibson a spearhead of the defensive charge there's bill arms partner he is Dean the architect of this defense also the architect of the no-name defense that shut everybody out I am 68 years young now I have prostate surgery early he is a whiz Roman and this guy's played for Woody Hayes played for Blanton Kyle coaxed under both wrists Shula now much he doesn't know about the defensive side of this game open receiver in the flat is James Saxon Saxon former Kansas City chief bounds at the nine its jr. say on out pressure up through the middle that try to disrupt and Marino's rhythm i sir from the outside by O'Neill but junior sale was late again with that clip lilies and the knowledge of this offense and an expert of reading defenses he goes to the outlet perceiver for positive yardage it's third down [Music] longed-for they call it by [Applause] touchdown Keith Jackson two for two beautiful the motion has hurt San Diego's defense and that and the missed opportunities [Applause] Gabriel's got one receiver in mind here Jackson goes in motion watch him wait Jackson Jackson he fakes inside it comes back outside when he turns around BAM how do you stop no one has yet he not only has two touchdowns but every time he's caught the ball he takes a couple of steps before he runs into any defense story on events with a point out and the Dolphins impressive and no couldn't play any better than the ways on the ball those last two touchdown drives we can't on NBC well Don Shula has to like the ride so far in San Diego a 14 to 3 it's been downhill in his first ever Andre Coleman at the 5 as Toyota Vitz sends a twister to the near sideline [Applause] at the 26-yard line nature dad's Gerald McRaney and Tracy's Scoggins will star world premiere of Jake Lassiter justice on the bayou that's tomorrow night at 9:00 8:00 central of your on the NBC deck 14 2011 to go in the first half here now you basically take the running game away from San Diego they need points I need them now they've eliminated Natron means here even though he might be in the backfield they're not going to hammer the line of scrimmage with him meanwhile Moreno is humming he was 5 4 alive on that last scoring drive that went 52 yards and six plays [Applause] mark say and he said by jesse sullivan shy of the first down at the 35 good pattern run short and then see say come out from the right-hand side just a little delay try to push the defense to the right get an underneath receiver only makes a good solid tackle not enough for the first down well so far it's all marino 2/10 stands Humphreys has moved his team just can't get any voice these are 46 yard line Nene [Applause] [Music] that's all right to sweep with Natron means I mean that's like a pass excellent job again Davis number 73 out in front blowing one of those big tight ends Shannon Mitchell Shannon Mitchell Jordan escort or Natron means he knows how to get him first down and of course with all his carries he's gonna get his chance just to have your name right behind Emmitt Smith in any category as a compliment that's a nice list Larry Sanders Jerry Rice in that list means with 59 yards rushing [Applause] a shielding block 20 more 4 means he's got a 79 the offensive lineman gets running backs eight yards wide receivers blocking they get you 80 excellent job out front and see that little move and little move gets him outside and then Sean Jefferson does help Harry Swain with an excellent block now they're going to the perimeter of this defense 240 pounds showing the speed of 180 pounder he's averaging eight point eight yards a carry replaces means [Applause] to the 23-yard line and hanging on the desperate tackle from Aubrey beavers gang of 350 the enemy if he can just pick his feet up here Swain again coming good blocking down in there the running back jumps up through there nice saving tackle here by beavers but again watch swing excellent job you hope you're running back and break that tackle the enemy stays in Harmon is out in the far wing [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] they are the foremost [Music] the enemy have been this drive again nice little delay that catches the 90 dolphins deep here's Brian Cox middle linebacker excellent job done by another one of those HVAC tight ends first and goal six names part from behind marko Coleman was able to bring through and Michael Stewart came up to support no gain they had first and go earlier in the game and through on first down and finally had to settle for a field goal stopped at the two there they have more field goals and they do touchdowns when they're inside the 20 you can see up or they've been that this is most assured they afford on area they they can't take another field goal here San Diego run more effectively in terms of yards and passing it [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] dick I don't understand this I mean they run the ball to this point and then I guess they read their own statistics we're not good inside the 20 so they try something tricky you got Natron means in the backfield keep giving it to him here comes Harmon and Sean Jefferson third and goal at the six and Don Shula counters with four five changes as he brings in his dollar defense at seven defensive backs [Applause] Jefferson they try a play this people where we finessed plays nothing but finesse down there inside the 10-yard line as opposed to just trying to power it in the end zone they go as well preaching the offensive coordinator if it works he's a genius at this point it hasn't worked you don't like to see field goals twenty yards and now 21 Miami calls time may not have had enough men on the field so we'll pause with 250 left in the half few points apparently as Carney after a 70 yard drive set up for a short field goal now the thinking here not like yesterday Cleveland Pittsburgh were they brown for down 17 nothing and having trouble moving the ball went for the field goal here's a case where you make the field goal you move the ball well and you're an eight-point touchdown away from the time that's amazing they've changed personalities inside the 10 [Applause] carny ships in the easy when it's goes into six tunity we almost saw an interception to stop a drive-by settle down and keep that emotion inside John Carney short [Applause] fights Grayson is hit at the 30-yard line spikes from northey's Louisiana School the produced and Humphreys addictive this was the they were about to attempt a field goal here and Brian Cox throws his helmet down I think Miami had 12 men on the field and as Brian Cox goes to the sideline that's Tom Oliver dottie the defensive coordinator say Tom very calm very cool very collected Brian Cox has done a great job moving from outside linebacker the inside linebacker I think he's playing it on instinct Marino 14-6 lead [Applause] ran into spikes check that Aaron flavor its flavor and he's out for about four yards before Richard and Harper can make the style and not dick 225 to go Miami is already setting up for the two-minute warning here they're already in there two-minute offense trying to stay at the line of scrimmage get more points san Diego's been very generous with the opportunities for Miami Craver in the back side when Byers was injured Craver again buycks to the 38 yard line it'll be third down and two at the two-minute warning ever Moreno Moreno has hit nine in a row he has his Dolphins in front 14 to 6 and he faces 3rd and 2 and off the spikes second Craver again and Kramer has the first down Aaron Craver here's a man that was released and Don Shula said I couldn't believe that no one picked him up he was sitting out there and we needed someone and buyers went down and Kramer producing big plot by Keith Jackson coming from the outside crater a big weight lifter a very strong running back and it's McDuffie close to another first down at the san diego 42 and dick 43 day market you can't give dan Marino and Miami these chances it's just suicide [Applause] by jr. sale almost deflected that one to himself I got jr. on a blitz he recognizes what's coming and watch the athletic ability gets around the blocker hands up quickly old it's one hand that could have been the play to turn the tide here Marino's string of 10 straight completions snapped there by sail it took an all-pro to do it now three plays in the huddle he recalls one an automatic in a minute 13 seconds try to get it much yardage as he can't here Miami has two timeouts left and now only one got the time before so the Dolphins saved the five yards [Applause] [Music] [Applause] to the school obviously I get in time actually that's a plus it is it really is because its third now and six and you still have two timeouts [Applause] ballmart back at the 48-yard line Eric Castle an extra defensive back in for San Diego that's the first my well played half both sides oh what a catch by urban raising the level of play and prior making a sliding diving grab in front of Darrin Carrington for 24 yard and how about the region's robot marina Moreno he throws it where it can't be intercepted it can only be completed Orton we pass [Music] just cats by keith jackson open at the 16 and then the time i'll call with 42 seconds left and because they saved the time out on the delay of game penalty they still have one remember lute Lee they could use the entire width of the field but here's the big completion during Friday's looking down the field finding the receiver that quick release frog makes the catch interesting in talking to Dan Marino he said that when he went to the University of Pittsburgh jackie sherrill was his head coach Jeff jisuk and Sheryl said to him son don't let any coach ever mess with your delivery they can tell you anything they can do anything with you don't let him mess with your delivery and remember what fryer told us midseason he said that Marino with that injury and the fact that he sat out last year realized that time is short ease aids is getting him like it gets everyone that he's playing with a vengeance this year and I'm the beneficiary no question about it and look at the numbers the difference in touchdowns two interceptions 76 143 more Joe Montana 133 more touchdowns two interceptions for the all-time list General Quarters [Applause] second and two it's Leslie O'Neal shouting something to his teammates and that's two time-outs in a row that's two timeouts in a row [Applause] the wine that's twice now the officials would help them they gave him the timeout on the other one they don't let him have it here that would have been a penalty [Applause] so they still have the one time out 42 seconds left the key to this game if you're just joining us each team has been inside the 20 San Diego twice two field goals Miami twice two touchdowns and ever inside the 20 again now you're right on that Bob Trumpy and Don Shula member of the Rules Committee knew it as well as you say inside the 20 and I think it's more what San Diego's done to themselves inside the point of this resulted in those field goals [Applause] going for six off the fingertips of Irving fryer believe the chargers for guilty of an illegal Chuck Darian Gordon on that left corner again the spotlight on him with Eric castle automatic first down Miami [Applause] 37 seconds left [Applause] holding 21 defense first down only 3 San Diego penalties to Andheri and Gordon as Darren Gordon right there you see he grabs the jersey of Irving Pryor probably very smart yeah that would have been a touchdown on the flush that was just enough the hold and yep they'll take the penalty block is on their side here with 37 to go Miami build on it's 14 to 6 late [Applause] yes Jackson turn one way the past the other is family Richard has to be talking to himself the way Jackson's turning him around blitz run by San Diego Junior's say ah they also had safeties on the Blitz Eric castle watch all the Blitzen and here's Keith Jackson again to fix the out and up and Richard buys it Marino throws that to the inside it's a completion but there was so much pressure coming the antigriddle [Applause] yards in this first half [Applause] does this women who did not have a touchdown [Applause] damn or you know opportunities the jazzy will eat you alive sixteen yards as Moreno has thrown for his third touchdown in the half and Mike Williams will take that one home is first Miami touchdown and this is court season elevates makes it 21 to 6 excellent job by the offensive line first give it in time here's the slant pattern run and again Moreno at that quick delivery when he gets that thing up and ready to go BAM it's gone the defensive back has no chance to recover from any mistake that he makes that's Marino's eyes he knows where he's going he puts his rear end into it manners makes the catch that this was awful easy that this was entirely easy watch the defensive that kind of back off of the receiver is dear it looks like that's a little kick we're going to the outside Moreno chooses the inside guy he's wide open yeah 70 yards in nine plays two minutes 20 seconds for Moreno to get number three and that touchdown changes the whole thinking of this game going into the locker room now you don't go for field goal yeah coming up it's the Domino's Pizza NFL live with Greg Gumbel Mike Ditka and Joe Gibbs on tap first-half analysis of this game a live interview for that terrific quarterback in Pittsburgh robbed of Woodson and the national finals of the Gatorade punt pass and kick competition between the first female to ever make it to the national finals and she's good vulgar old Kendra wicker from Kansas she had mom and dad here watching they were really cheering from the end zone for Kendra how's that for a second quarter numbers for Dan Marino and dick there are times when you can draw up any defense you want you can have as gifted a defensive defensive back as you want when he's in the zone and he has been for the last two weeks you can't stop it you absolutely cannot stop him I mean San Diego starts the game banging him they get him on the ground a couple of hits he's so tough inside comes back like he said all day and just stands there and tears him apart and they stopped him forced Miami to punt the first two possessions but the three Miami opportunity since have gone for three touchdowns all Moreno passes to Jackson and one now too infrequently use Mike Williams [Applause] Skid the king cobras hands and goes to Ronnie [Applause] fights out to the 37 yard line and Stan Humphries at 21 seconds to try to do stage yes yes here when to give them time they'll come up with stuff you don't know what but they'll come up with stuff Francis I producer director John Gonzalez good to have Tommy Roy PC executive producer of sports what is today in San Diego dick when San Diego goes in at halftime they're gonna kick themselves absolutely hit themselves for the opportunities they've missed [Applause] underneath and again and timeout with 11 seconds left reminder again tonight it's all new episodes of Earth 2 and secret I don't wonder that booth - we might see Marino on there the way he's in his own orbit followed by the network television premiere of ricochet that starts at 7 6 central here on NBC Marino is definitely not an alien but he does play at a much higher level and I don't think we can under play one bit what Marino has gone through this year the disappointment to know in summer camp that that Achilles just wasn't right and it didn't get one bit better he said all season long never got better as a matter of fact when you that's the brace he wears on his ankle when you look at his calf I mean it's beauty it's pathetic I mean he has to really protect himself when he's out there and he can't run much he can barely walk he big certainly throw OH [Applause] by Smith Smith his tackle at the 40-yard line is the first half comes to an end and appropriately it ends on another Oh critical for San Diego means plows for about six let's go down to John Dockery you know dick Papa Ross said the same thing he said we can move the ball on offense here we just have to make a bigger place but he was more concerned about the defense it was very direct and very forthright he said hey we're gonna play more men two men will get a blitz we got to get to Marino to get him out of the zone Don Shula on the other side the boy said what about the first half coach hey there was one word Marino he's making every right decision back to you okay doc [Applause] [Music] [Applause] undernea Harmon tackled at the 41st down San Diego let's check the two quarterbacks Moreno and Humphries and remember the game started with a lot of contact on Marino but 17 of 24 for three touchdowns and staying up with just eight of 17 he's not been able to get the ball down the field the one interception that at the end of the half chief Jackson six catches two four scores Sean Jefferson leading the San Diego to the two somewhat meaningless scratch first down at the 44 Humphries [Music] [Applause] and names as duck Sundra and gains five well that time you saw Brian Cox at least stick his arms out there to try to make the tackle the little swing pass to means well thrown by Stan Humphries but leave not tall break Optimus comes over at the top of it the hidden head trick by a Natron what an athlete both pick one you can start a franchise with either one of them means or Brad Cox [Applause] territory where the first town if area Babri beavers makes the tackle me holding the San Diego we flying on the field now when the referee throws the flag and it's not a pass you know it's holding and Johnnie rear threw the flag holding 153 often still second down Courtney Hall the center regarded as the leader of that offensive line for the charges here's Courtney Hall he's got cling pile on his nose no a group that kind of grabs although I don't know kind of stuck his arm up around cling boughs leg jump ran right through it mystery hole there Rodney Colbert makes his first appearance rarely used [Applause] one time [Applause] good running bike over they had him for a short gain and kick free for an 18 yard pickup San Diego comes to excuse me Miami comes with a blitz cover of Boyd's Brian Cox Solomon should make the tackle no question about that but a missed tackle and that's been something that's perked Miami last couple of three weeks again cops he runs [Applause] and it's offered people new short yards and perhaps just did get to the line of scrimmage Stan Humphries has gone through a painful season injured hip a sprained ankle sprained knee and a dislocated left elbow being the most serious and he's still wearing a brace and that elbow that was dislocated the mid year upper arm this is where the lower arm goes he said I'm not comfortable with it but when he first got it he couldn't really hold the ball where he normally does just just before he threw it so and there's a little rusty there for a while [Applause] but no Chris's converted only one to the the wide open [Music] [Applause] I think I sense that boss walks at halftime probably put some heat marks on some folks so the offense here is a lot crisper they're learning more precise patterns protection is a little better for Stan Humphries it's just a darn shame that it took them so long to get the wake-up call here and Tom Oliver down here on the side here well what's going on here what who's got that man their coverage [Applause] [Music] [Applause] blockers and it took half the defense to finally break last man there was [Music] dick for a young guy he was only 22 years old watch the patience he is he allowed the garton's hacker to get out in front of him stealing those skip steps binds the little slot a little crack a little seam gets up through there runs through the tackle of Brian Cox very gifted runner been 240 pounds since he was a sophomore in college so knows how to carry that weight [Applause] [Music] met in the hole fine hit by veteran Craig VC who wants very much to go on next Sunday because he would then face his former teammates the Pittsburgh Steelers they kind of alternate the defensive tackles here for Miami here's BC right here does an excellent job of getting around the block they try to double-team him with the center in the guard fights through both that makes the tackle now the third and long Humphries and Ronnie Hartmann comes in he's flanked out to the left [Applause] he needs another [Music] [Applause] they're just in time he played it beautifully [Music] that looked to be a perfectly time throw by Humphries as Hartmann broke Claire that was the out and up that's what Keith Jackson scored on for Miami associate ego said alright we'll try it now on 4th down and 7 this is where that touchdown by Marino at the end of the half change the course of the game to go 14 6 that go for the field goal [Applause] to [Applause] for Sandhya [Applause] [Music] [Applause] we're going to go back to the Ronnie Harmon mist reception you see the out knock gene engines does an excellent job just gets his head around to knock his balls away at the last possible second then the choice on fourth down say runs the delay inside good protection nice pickup first and goal from the maybe a Bowens at 317 pounds from Mississippi he was named the NFL's top defensive rookie that's actually excuse me here's the situation as you normally have your five or six best goal line plays printed out on computer you've decided on Tuesday or Wednesday what you're going to do and it certainly appeared there's route freezing the offensive coordinator there choice to this point has been to finesse Miami in this situation it has not worked another long time consuming but no points yet [Applause] [Music] deja vu all over again aubrey beavers check it was the man who took kupuna and it just appeared at the start of that play the Humphreys body language was saying I'm not quite sure what you want here certainly when you head to eighths in the first half inside the ten yard line and get just field to field goals you'd certainly think the start the second half there's got to be something that they can do this allows Don Shula dissent in his dollar defense seven db's Marco Coleman getting a breather [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] they screen at the Harmon down at the 100 my the pressure on my me he's gotta go for absolutely Rocket head coach in number 30 [Music] Henderson could be the game if Miami can stop them here Humphries who has led to thrive with eight completions he had only eight the whole first half with every [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] dick what's what's calming number 94 a Miami first of all Webster makes him go outside a little deeper Coleman 90 makes the hit [Applause] they ships out at the 20 that's going to be a safety market tests out of the end zone how'd you do that Parmalee you can see him lying on the ground that [Applause] through his 320 pounds into the center the chart says get something out of being inside the 20 Davis is able to stand up Dylan Bob get hurt no question the same rules apply to a ball coming out of the end zone as going in the end zone it's the outside line of the so that wasn't back to safety two points and San Diego will get the ball back so it's 21 to eight and the free kick by the Dolphins from their own 20-yard line some momentum some momentum Ruby Toby Davis from the North Carolina he and shortly are now playing side-by-side on that defensive line both drafted in 88 by Tampa Bay and now happy teammates in San Diego here at football six three days in Southern California and the Thunderbolts of San Diego Reuben Davis tackling Parmalee for a safety to make a 21 day really icing marino 654 left in the third he stills yet to get on the field and now San Diego gets it on the free kick crime to the 45-yard line 645 Evelyn 21 date and that for very long drives keeping the ball away from Moreno but not productive only six points out of those drives but they get to on the safety just back on a clarification Jerry seaman the head of officials in the NFL pointing out that I'm fourth down you can't fumble forward down the inside the 10-yard line and so the ball was marked where he fumbled it at the one and had that been a third down play at the pylon it would have been a touchback right October that gives that often as they set back before Michael Stewart comes up and safety Gober carried the ball only eight times all season makes you wonder why means isn't in there this is the counter play run by San Diego Davis 73 close but Stewart goes outside the blocking and that's a critical series now for the Miami defense they just faced a 15 play drive took one play off and they're now back out there on the football field and Harmon with Harmon slotted right [Applause] [Music] [Applause] he only gets a couple [Applause] [Music] Markel Coleman made the tackle assisted by a whip stir Bonnie Greer one of the NFL's best face masks Huma 90 we keep secondary [Applause] five yards is the inadvertent facemask [Applause] he does that's pretty strong tuk there and just give him the five yards but he's putting a little pressure on that second down and two for San Diego at the Miami 46 and a half still on the sidelines [Applause] second and short for that Marko Coleman has had a game Coleman gets the sack again he's on Harry Swain the offensive left tackle for loss Coleman who played for Bobby Ross at Georgia Tech you should be coming right at you woman who's probably improved more than anybody on that defensive line I set him up on the outside comes back to the inside makes the sack and at Coleman clan used to working well on Sunday in the Dayton Ohio areas dad's a Baptist minister [Applause] [Music] Sean Jefferson for the first time but we have seen some outstanding receptions on both sides now when he needs it Stan Humphries has got a strong arm and this is certainly an example of that this is a long deep out and Jefferson comes back for the football Frankie Smith 29 is the man in coverage certainly enough for the first down well done boy there's life in the Chargers I'm called here with five minutes exactly left in the third quarter and the Miami Dolphins yet to get the ball on offense but for one play and that was the safety poorly tackled in his own endzone we can only speculate as to what this conference is all about was he down by contact perhaps was the [Music] the reason for their fear that Smith did make contact as he to the dive on Jefferson it was just kind of a touch of the sock but there was contact another big plus for Shawn Jefferson there let's say this will be a better angle watch the arm well maybe he did just swipe by his leg and not touching but knowing that you can get up in the NFL it turns it into a first down for San Diego at the Miami 35 yard line [Music] [Applause] I'm phrase missing on only one throw in the second half all this with me is on the bench gain of before and beavers can make the stop cover released by the Indianapolis Colts this year and signed by San Diego supreme one of the world's most enduring symbols the Goodyear blimp eagle based in Carson California been providing these beautiful aerial shots so many years 1995 in fact marks the 70th consecutive year that a Goodyear blimp has flown over a major sporting event what a day to be up there above beautiful San Diego means we turn [Applause] I guess you could say Humphries is the ways and they phone has the need notice it when's my turn yeah come on gentlemen they pay me a lot of money to play not watch like a cat out there in the San Diego Zoo Marino encaged on that far side lines basic give me a chance come on defense well it's always days to see you some of the farmer announcers I wondered who you were going to say our boss is here that shy of a first down now the safety changes the mathematics of this game in an interesting way this thinking in head should San Diego have to face field goal again then Russ could say well three more makes it 21 to 11 that's back onto a you know touchdown point game but I think he's kind of got a wall going here with the safety and the two points and now the ball possession this again is for down area so Hendrickson comes as the blocking back [Applause] over the time for the first time two instances in the first half works at that play not field goal that wouldn't it been against that exact defense wouldn't and now don't dick I'm trying to make a point here come on forget I said it okay go ahead okay next time they get down inside the five yard I would suggest that play justifies domains and means with justify the end 94 yards for [Music] three minutes left in the [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] there's some discussion as to whether or not he get in he got to the end zone [Applause] touchdown and signal touchdown right on the goal line and so it is confirmed it's the counter davis and jonathan 74 watch means stay with it first contact made JB brown again pork tackling by Miami last couple of three weeks it's cost him again a player not wrapping up a ball carrier and he's allowed to get in the end zone that all pro play right there Warwick's footage about that should have been marked at the one karni for the extra point [Music] fifteen dick is put it away [Music] [Applause] next step [Applause] actually the two yardline the official that called the touchdown the 35 yards of that drive that he was a couple yard size of 35 Carney [Applause] out of bounds near the 30-yard line let's go back so they a means questionable touchdown there's no JB Brown is hanging on during that Solomon that hits him and there's the with the Chargers inability to get the ball in first and goal from the two that's why Miami's complaining so much and the plates are led by Tom Oliver dotty when he saw it on a big board that wasn't even close what did they used to call that instant replay into this third quarter [Applause] minutes 10:34 left in the [Applause] zone 31 [Applause] it's an open man first down Oh J McDuffie first pass in almost an hour thrown by Dan Marino man can he silence a crowd on the road in a long time since a guy silence is a crowd like Dan Marino 33 seconds Miami Center the ball here in this quarter now these two units certainly fresh Miami offense San Diego defense first down [Applause] and Jackson by Darien Gordon just shy of mathilde O'Neal almost got to Moreno that son Jackson obviously been a big receiver today in the gameplan watching the ball condemn releases former buddies down in Little Rock Arkansas just kind of hangs around Leslie O'Neil there and then Moreno somehow gets in the ball pressure all over Moreno he's still able to make the completion yes O'Neal and keep Jackson where members of the sunset Tigers in Little Rock as 8 9 year olds [Applause] [Music] they're shy the first down with partly carrying to the 49-yard one ownio makes the stop along with Dwayne Harper nice little delay run here by Miami I'm gonna see the guard pole whitener gets out in front an excellent job also of blocking by James Saxon a San Diego defense this is the biggest third down so far today dick that's where Moreno has been so tough to stop he was 4 for 5 on third downs in the first half receivers [Music] [Applause] no it's against it often the way the charger vents [Applause] there we go Chuck because Bobby [Music] leap out to the hash work mirela makes the he gets his hand in the air he is an unlikely he illegal ran to the face number 69 often as people walk there penis emza left guard he doesn't he hasn't made any mistakes in his professional career here Sims right here no it's on for Ella to Sims pushes him into the spot where he knocks the ball out of there [Applause] Mendeley high-kick that Gordon at the 10-yard Oh 38-yard punt there's a flag [Applause] at the 50 [Applause] or [Applause] [Music] rather than start at the 10 will let can't have another chance sure was released after some four years with San Diego this year as they signed a Brian it was around for several weeks trying out and then he finally and kid then finally replaced veteran Jim Arnold who was cut by and Shula they have to punt again in a punt to Darian Gordon one of the game's best punt returner so another advantage here for San Diego that the just had the best AFC punt return record led by Gordon's thirteen point two yard average two touchdowns [Music] [Applause] fight for the chance to come home and this short amounts to a ten-yard [Applause] Miami as San Diego will start from the 20 instead of from the 10 yard line well will the the professional football see 4 seconds left in the quarter Humphries trailing by six [Applause] and rodney cover gets only a yard the end of Miami 21 Chargers 15 we'll be back after these messages from your local station [Music] reporter my 21-yard San Diego 26 yards [Applause] tackled at the 26 a 5-yard gain Jesse Solomon and Michael stored it will be third and fourth this is the young man Ronny Harmon who creates lots of problems for lots of Defense's of his choice here is zone he's hit some excellent job there by the linebacker just making sure he has no out to run we'll give him the five or six yards got a slow San Diego down here three wideouts Jefferson Martin and say [Music] [Applause] the inner man has love Miami goes with the nickel package there's one last linebacker in there to make the tackle you see the four-man front Davis does a good job at kicking out but they're all defensive backs there so it's kind of a it's it's a real problem for Miami to match up personnel right when Ronnie Hartmann is in there we call that regular Ronnie regular Ronnie [Applause] now the first ever was irregular Ronnie I'm sitting here [Applause] [Music] and that Alton's stacked him up after a short game Marco Coleman again and Brian Cox well that Coleman has played some gas he has I think he's trying to show off for his former head coach Bobby Ross a guy he likes a great deal and I'll be Ross has great things to say about Marco Coleman they thought they could run into that side the Komen side who's you know the lighter of those defensive linemen more that stand up defensive end than a power guy [Applause] second and eight [Applause] [Music] it will be third and floor and a late [Applause] like facemask against Miami that would give a first down [Applause] [Music] we play the down dick when you looked at Don Shula I think he's beginning to see a fatigue - defense now fifty-three beavers and against a hint I couldn't really pick it out there but nevertheless the five yards but a that opening drive of the second half by San Diego 15 plays they don't score put the defense back out there on the field again they do score get the safety perhaps the key play in this entire game for San Diego family takes it out to the 41 in the first town and Invicta think his calling his San Diego played in the first half that the missed opportunities to be six down but they didn't play poorly they just didn't score well they stood they gained a lot of yard they showed that they can move the ball they made poor choices all right missed opportunities and to be just six points down darn lucky [Applause] the bounds at the 46-yard line this is a hey Roz Culver just a sparing contributor throughout the regular season suddenly playing a major role in this critical game to get to the final fool yeah that they've they've enter intermixed not only culver but also the enemy they've had Ronnie Harmon in the backfield trying to keep everybody freshly this is a team the power football team has won a lot of games in the fourth quarter maybe keeping means press for this part of the game is exactly what Bobby Ross's plan was on second and fire [Applause] you got nothing on there to the 50 we'll be third in a short two woman possession 2nd half San Diego played the third quarter and that's absolutely amazing Bobby Ross couldn't have scripted it milk to keep it out of Marino's hands you're right now what we have to look for here is the beginning of poor tackling demise by Miami that's where that fatigue begins to show broken tackles by means and other San Diego Chargers means names just two more yards [Applause] [Music] stop short of the first down good defensive pursuit and by the Dolphins running well to the ball and led by number 95 Tim bones the rookie yeah they were also running at Coleman but Bowens appears got he's the one that got held Vic Cox is saying you want me to decline it it's fourth and one no I think they go for it fourth and one yeah Ellis says make them play told us yesterday said I have to take some chance a little north and short but not this time he said basically divided by inside the 50 welfare the ball shot length shy of that spot he figures now at a six point game bride of Tim Marino Waggener sends it high at the 15-yard line we'll take the field with less than eleven to go on the floor he's been sacked once three three times three deflections [Applause] 19 of 27 three touchdowns today comes out byron to the 20 yard line oj McDuffie who has been a prime target underneath that's his fourth catch proper and stay out with the staff again now this miami offense inside the 40-yard line here very conservative but more than happy to take the quick slants they don't want the turnover here Gary Stevens a quarterback coach Bernie goes on the sideline Dan in situations like Jesus make sure the completion [Applause] Parmalee that looks to be good enough for a first down at the 25 his first cats say Owen Gibson with exactly San Diego Chargers third in 92 when they went to the playoffs and it dropped down to 32 and then this year back to third and they could use a sack here but the offense that Miami's use it right here one sec very short short drop Moreno setting looking only at one receiver reading the that's why I wouldn't give sack that much the chain gang second down back Nate would appear to be a first down of the 25 [Applause] this crowd screaming with all the hopes of an entire season on the line and a flag is down [Music] [Applause] holding 88 often Jack's up for sale as two of the three touchdowns [Applause] penalized in the league they were more guilty this year than most seasons you know and he can't attack Alyssa Neal and that such a critical block because it's on the point of attack it's hard to hook that defensive in and that's what Keith Jackson was trying to do so Parmalee could get outside as you see how penalties have increased a little bit for Miami over the years [Applause] and he follows [Applause] why I go move they may say down the officials threw flags and caps at the spot where Jackson went down he's trying to lateral that to a receiver out on the sideline [Applause] or lateral as a live wall the same as a fumble should be san diego's at the 40th that's what this discussion is about what in the world going through Keith Jackson's head [Applause] we have an illegal forecast number 88 offense from the bar hit the ground it became an incomplete pass [Music] what I agree with you totally look he's right here on the 30-yard line you're going to see her the ball goes forward and he's trying to get it to this guy out here how can that not be ruled a fumble I agree with you it's gotta be a fumble that is a weird call what with a whole season on the line that's the same as if you're tackled in the ER you give a little ball how is that any different it only cost them five yards and they keep the ball and it's from the end of the reception oh my so it's a win-win-win for Miami so why not do that every play just get thrown the ball forward whatever that's just everytime unity tackle just throw it forward and you they've got to think this one over this dissident can't be right there Gerry seaman is here there is an NFL observer here he is the top dog Gerry seaman top man [Applause] for us and that official Johnny Greer is looking into the eyes of a first lieutenant the US Army a company commander of a tank division who wants to know how in the world can that be [Applause] the charges got a break on means touchdown his foot was out of bounds you hate form to pay this way [Applause] thank is the proper call interpretation it just seems to open up such an incredible can of worms why would you have a ruling in the book that rewards a team for throwing the ball forward when tackled [Applause] and what was in the head of chief Jackson even tribe well there's 843 left Miami leads by six at the moment Miami has a ball at its own 30 unless there's an overrule here San Diego still they still get it line [Applause] gonna be one day - they're going to really be chewing this one up tomorrow [Applause] incomplete pass although Dennis Gibson came up with a ball watch Junior say out as the motion comes he's free to blitz picked up by Heller which you're right whoa Ellen block gets him on his back foot bad throw by Dan Marino five some of the old-time pants in San Diego remember another call of [Applause] all things flickered [Music] [Applause] and a great cat but it's shy of the first down Irving fryer in a crowd with Wayne Harper on his back makes the catch at the 34 where it'll be fourth down and well they tried to get this thing to the first down marker and you saw a punt Shula wasting no time there you know aside from all the things that going immediately Don Shula's you look into the face of this legend who is the winningest coach in the history the National Football League a win today would give him 20 playoff wins and tie him for that mark 2 with Tom Bobbe better to work for Shula for several years as a director of player personnel as they measured seemingly is a good distance from her first name Bobby pepper Bobby better said the thing that I learned most from Shula and what my most about him is [Applause] always positive no matter what the condition positive even seven Bob Griese broke his ankle they wearing a half if you didn't know Greece he had broken his ankle Shoeless state made no mention of it there's Bobby better one of the kings of personnel in the NFL 817 left and kid to punt gilt Gordon back at the 25 so controversial play at the moment call by Gordon E played it safe at the 2047 six at the half today maybe Jensen who is a historian of notes was thinking about his own forward Bernardo please means the long running he picks up seven on first down JB bruh one of you means where I gotta correct his total means now has 129 yard how many carries does he 21 I say 25 and they win good job by poopoo no hooking Coleman beavers inside JB brown outside that's a nice pickup now that's the way you use Natron means you get him at those defensive backs soften them up [Applause] in the fourth quarter in San Diego this crowd in San Diego history [Applause] a first down at the 32 [Music] having a career game in this playoff 134 yards rushing and before this one he did an excellent yet his personal best in Miami was it earlier was the last year he had his personal best yes always topped it today and this is the top rushing of anyone in the playoffs this year Foster had 133 yesterday against Cleveland Gary Foster [Applause] Tony [Applause] dropped a couple of big plays against the Rams and then is corrected and then here plus his mom who lives down in Miami Sarah went to the grocery store with lightning bolts on this week and there was over booster wears over riot a riot down there so she's quietly sitting inside her house with the shades drawn routing for the San Diego Chargers as Sarah you bet she's tier first down to the 14 yard throw 6:05 [Music] short to mark say at the 50-yard line it'll be second and five doc have you been able to straighten out the puzzle of that call you know dick I just talked to Jerry seaman a head of officials and he told me it was simply this it's an illegal forward pass and he compared it to a quarterback running beyond the line of scrimmage and throwing the ball it's a 5-yard penalty loss of down you know it's a very bizarre play but he said it was called correctly by the officials illegal forward pass law stood down 5-yard penalty back to you dick all right a cover tight ends weighing young but there was no receivers they had to throw to home Jackson who is not a quarterback out in that field and that's really a rare interpretation but so it is and two tight end down the middle here almost able to make the completion can't quite stretch his arm out enough Dave Duane young to make that catch but well that's yeah seeing a big bite that's what happens too tight is you know always got dirt in her face thrive Harmon in the backfield they the blacks dead [Applause] [Applause] [Music] if Miami doesn't lift their people here to make to catch the interception but because they're committed to the line of scrimmage Martin's really the only one that can make the catch first down at the 37 look like a 115 look like all for the hand of Brian Cox he was the man one of the many putting pressure on Humphreys a break for the Chargers block [Applause] Humphries pose he's going along Jefferson [Applause] do we want to see this on one boy I'm asking you now we're going to see it a good pump fake by Stan Humphries Wallace caught well by deficit 100 books or aren't you fancy this one on the reflect Royale - doh [Applause] wonder what the excuse will be this time just showed on the big screen [Applause] that Wednesday go ahead touchdown tonight second and ten to save these official Humphry says somebody get old they're saying than intercepted by snow [Applause] this is intended to be a stream where Natron means is the screen man it's not open so Stan Humphries trash to improvise he makes the big mistake late down the middle Stewart picks it off it was trying sit who made the play deflected the ball control and both [Music] that's the touchdown that's coffee that happens sure no question about that michael stewart often [Music] [Applause] two long curving fryer well if there's a sensational athletic play by Vincent Tony Martin is just an outlet this is a screen designed to the other side of the field and Vincent gets his hand up there Stuart makes the interception dick I've heard that the arguments against instant replay that in a three-dimensional world it's hard to call to the screen things that are two-dimensional but can you deny that there are instances where instant replay works perfectly but sometimes it did [Applause] second and ten [Applause] Denis Gibson who labored in Detroit for many years before coming here as a free agent makes the tackle Parmalee the receiver if we go back to the interception Humphries knows the mistake he made that's the only thing he could do there was turn the ball over everything else was working fine he just didn't go far enough inside and Vincent made a heck of a play big third down seven who turnovers [Applause] one of the big statistics [Applause] that [Music] as he started the game pressure we know gets to him you're going to see say outcomes he'll late guy come here they put as much pressure on Moreno as they possibly could it's 29 Carrington coming he had to get rid of it rims made him short his arm a little bit [Applause] in Carrington putting the pressure on he says boy I want to win my mom's 50th birthday watching in Atlanta Canada - fine [Applause] 26 rivers but plane [Applause] michael stewart is just at the intersection stored on the special teams as well denies the chargers out a little razzle-dazzle on that pump return great discipline by stewart to stay there when the tendency is to go after the Paul Kelly's leading his team this far leading by six but Humphreys has developed a 39 315 to the 49 will be close to a first down JB brown dick I consider this Miami defense has faced an awful lot of place in this second hand at some point it's always more difficult it's more fatiguing you play defense and in his offense because you have to pursue on defense at some point the wonder if this defense is just out of all of its collective energy that's good point Bob - and that the bye week allows that offense to put in absolutely sure work [Applause] second and one [Applause] boy he barely got the handle off and has the first down at the Miami 49 to 27 left and bowing bones made the tackle there would suggest running the corner in a three-yard another two games six interceptions no touchdowns for Stan Humphries [Applause] that counted first down at the 40 [Applause] he came back to meet us [Applause] that's a big double he catches it and for the first down it's gonna be close to a first-time right at the stakes beat her down we'll be back 21:15 just inside the miami 39 [Applause] tackled immediately by michael stewart after a six yard game and boy michael stewart was right on michael stewart ever even cheated up to the line of scrimmage so he could have a better chance to cover Ronny Harmon as San Diego would write back to the line of scrimmage half dozen catches for Harmon 50 yards total [Music] that stops the clock with 1:29 left buffoon ooh the target weather a couple of things going on here one for San Diego should they score if they score quickly Marino gets his chance to bring Miami back the other thing they don't want is first and goal at the five wasn't proud let's try from here gentlemen third and four Humphries now is thrown 40 [Applause] and Humphries is looking to the sideline for Cole I think Bobby Ross while I was running I think Stan's already got these plays they've practices in practice there's a lot to Terry second slip the Chargers are ten see they had Salomon and coverage on Ronnie Harmon and immediately you got to look at this was to play two plays ago that's the slam good release here by Martin Goodspeed Troy Vincent - soft and coverage Stuart has to make this stop it's second down [Music] [Applause] Harmon to the eight garden be close to the measurement there we go again a reminder as this game has gone into primetime for those of you watching in these two reminder that after the game most of these stations and all know earth-2 and then an all-new Seaquest followed by a network television premiere the movie ricochet viewers on the west coast will see these shows that their regularly scheduled time dick I do not see Natron means in the huddle I see them on the sideline it San Diego to this points gotten the ball inside to ten with their passing set but at this point you got to think look we got three timeouts we got 53 seconds each time we run the ball we can stop the clock with a timeout they have two now they've just used to be two they have not had success in this game trying to finesse Miami at this point you would certainly hope that recent history is a good teacher and they try something else 53 seconds remain weary is 65 year old Don Shula at his birthday on Wednesday collecting Social Security this is the jumbo outfit here for San Diego third and one means is in there three tight ends and each batch they got a whole bunch of meat up in front of him [Applause] [Applause] showing his acrobatic jelly that was a tough little movie made at the line of scrimmage as he goes to 140 yards for the day a charger record for playoffs is 25 that was his 24 he said 25 wonder signs and you thought San Diego would at the door I didn't figure that it would be quite like this but my thinking was that if he carries the ball 25 times he's got to be carrying it a lot in the second half and in the fourth quarter the score 21 15 Miami Miami led at the half 21 to 6 48 seconds as you see laughs one timeout remaining for San Diego as they measure it's a first down a possible victory the frustration Brazil is he just hasn't gotten a chance to play fairly in the second ab he's not had the ball you're absolutely correct the opening drive by san diego 15 plays they don't score the safety and defense got worn out there moreno hasn't he hasn't broken a sweat in the second half and the worst thing should san diego score is that they are chewing up time so if Miami pastor alley they won't have too many ticks left 48 seconds the ball 39 minutes Miami 20 minutes in this game [Music] this has been so excited he got shul up out of his little cart there he's thinking about we get the ball we got our timeouts now use them Murray well the charges calling here three wives [Applause] praise what [Applause] [Music] [Applause] as any official point after block play this is the time Bendis nap Gil the Chargers believe [Applause] five seconds four more to get his team in feel [Applause] you're going to see say coming motion get lost and come right up through the middle of the defense because that way comes back the other way out there to cover Marcy plainly from inside two kids and for her a touchdown pass in the post season Troy Vincent dropped the coverage aimes yard play [Applause] well the beauty of all sports is how grown men a little kid and now it's marinos chance Miami has the chance they have all three timeouts 35 seconds a lifetime for Marino [Applause] he can't believe that as much as his team's dominated in the first half that they're now down by a point there's another gunslinger left in town one would think that carny will not take a chance on a long return that this will be some form of a short low kick San Diego today with 467 yards [Applause] Irving spikes and OJ McAfee are the defense Ronnie Williams the tight end at the 38-yard look you're going to start Moreno at the 38 with 30 to the second you're just doing him a favor now stay on of its the field goal kicker for Miami one of the best from long range he's kicked one on a 50 this year and coming into this season stoy Hana has kicked 11 for 22 outside the 50 11 for 22 so anything close to the 35 yard line [Applause] are very much alive they're incomplete but obviously Pryor didn't have possession you see the smoke from the cannon flouting Shula Moreno did a bit of running to get opened it whoa wait a minute if he worked out I'm not sure I wouldn't call that a catch well there was a hesitation but it's ruled and incomplete test I don't can't remember a game when we've had more instances where I thought gee if somebody could take another look at that play well Mike Ditka and Joe Gibbs agree with it [Applause] in [Applause] Pass incomplete they'll mark this off unless they call that interference that's interference the balls at the 30-yard line already was something burning down below us here they can and I don't know somebody's a barbecue and early here but I think that's a very good call castle was there before the ball was this is an excellent call [Applause] 47 yards from a field goal [Applause] canta I don't think there's any question that's an easy call 32 yard penalty well the officials certainly have been a big part of this game yes they have probably more than they want right now I'm sure they'd be the day beats toy out of its nose he's going to get a chance to win it you want to talk about pressure they don't see much duty but so often it's with all the hopes of a team in a city and all the fans on the line and that's where story on a is going to be if they kick it right now it'd be about 47-yard interesting thing about story on a at miami he practices on uprights that are eight feet apart the hash marks and the uprights are the same at 18 and a half feet so he only gives himself eight this is a stuff that legends are made of how you get it done Marino closed it down there 32 yard penalty puts Miami possession to win [Applause] intercepted football Junior Seau had a bead on that one intended for Mike Williams 12 seconds [Applause] and hearsay out right here he fakes the Blitz but the ground he covers you're trying to make this interception can't quite get there Gary and Gordon made the play 12 seconds this probably the last play and it's a matter where do you want to kick it from story out of its right [Applause] incomplete oh you gotta hit it to Miami so it's six seconds and now's the time here comes toy univis with a timeout remaining for San Diego one would guess that Raza wait'll they set up and and then try to ice the kicker snapper is Dylan bot holder is John kid in the meantime on the other sideline one young man Eric castle the 24 year old defensive back from Oregon for San Diego has to be rooting for someone to make a play as his 32 yard penalty has given Miami this chance [Music] kickers don't have friends until after the kick and they either go away or you got lots of French he's kicked them from fifty-eight successfully and a 59 yarder in his six year career and it all comes down to this so Ayanna makes its Miami at Pittsburgh next Sunday and if he's tonight it's the Chargers going to the Steel City [Applause] the holder is kid [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] second [Applause] spoiled [Applause] [Music] the final two in the AFC was picked by [Music] the so-called expert last in the AFC West they lost their top receiver they lost their top running back from the but they traded him to know [Applause] Don Shula his team so close to victory in staion a [Applause] frames [Music] number two San Diego Pete Pittsburgh a couple weeks ago yeah Pittsburgh was missing starters yeah Pittsburgh was playing out here warm California's son but it has to be a psychological punk fork San Diego knowing they already beat next week's opponent this year 57 year old Ross did not get a vote for Coach of the Year [Applause] just the formality of a successful snap for the Chargers and this town will celebrate the biggest win in a couple of decades was there anything missing in this game do [Applause] the safety is a temperance of victory John had some before our defense came out the second half and held him to no points offensively we were moving to follow the first half we just couldn't get it in the end zone way to stopping ourselves but I tell you what it feels great right now I'm just asking what was the difference in the second half we just made the plays when they were in there we were running the football and we made some keep fourth down past the plays that kept the chains moving congratulations what about Fitchburg initially don't be a tough game gonna be a real tough game but I think about them tomorrow I'm just happy right now congratulations like and so as Susan hands for one team was it the season where he finally gets back with a chance at a Super Bowl ring [Applause] the chargers in the second half kept the ball away but even at that here's the snap that is hi kid get sit down but staion of its was wide right all the way dick Dylan bought the center the snapper normally very good and that is a rare mistake by the snapper kid does a great job but you're right the distraction when story on a sees kid rise up all of a sudden something's wrong they'll blame himself but it's just it's more complicated than that it's the snap but on Shula denied a chance to go to the AFC final with the hopes of playing the Super Bowl on his home turf Joe Robbie [Applause] the first half when he had a chance to play three touchdown passes but the charges would let him hang ball in the second half based on only one touchdown do playoff opportunities gets the one that wins today and Bobby Ross [Applause] one of the one of the he'll hide in the shadows would be the last one to say hey I did a good job [Applause] we'll be enjoy that glass of soda pop tonight [Applause] if double-wishbone suspension elevates your feel most valuable player they Tron means the Chargers as the winner of today's we try harder award 24 carries 139 yards 16 more yards and receptions a controversial touchdown we try harder award Davis the official rental company of the NFL this is this 24 yard touchdown run - to watch his foot right there are about it was ruled a touchdown oh my next week it'll be Humphrey and the Chargers against that iron field up if you will next up Steeler defense noon week from today for the AFC Championship the winner goes to the big party 21 Gaming statement standing with an all-new earth to than Kyle threatens the ship on Seaquest battle by the network television premiere of ricochet West Coast viewers can see these shows at their regularly scheduled times the Bob grumpy Johnny I'm Dick Enberg saying so long from Jack Murphy Stadium this is better presentation NBC Sports our 30th dear [Music] [Applause] [Music]
