Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
I've seen this vid a couple of times. One thing that irks me is that the 'narrator' plays it off like everyone else was screwing up. All this patronizing 'our boy' stuff. He made a really rookie mistake by not equalizing properly and at that point his dive was doomed. Listen to his breathing. He is obviously far from calm himself and needs assistance and then disobeys instructions to ascend. On a deep dive with a SAC like that I can't imagine he'd be down for long. The whole thing is a clusterf*ck beginning to end. I was advised to do at least 40 dives before AOW and I'm glad I did.
DM seems to have it together though.EDIT: DM neglects panicked diver. So I just stumbled upon this video, and I'm shell-shocked. The sheer volume of wrong in this dive is staggering. First off, can we institute a court martial for 'instructors' like this one? I mean, I haven't seen a single procedure done right in this dive - made orders of magnitude worse by the fact it was apparently AOW cert dive??
I had a bit of trouble figuring out who was who due to shakey vid and weird narration.
The thing that struck me the most was how much these guys were waving their arms for control (sometimes referred to as skulling). As one guy already said ITT you should have a LOT of dives before you attempt your AOW. You should totally have buoyancy under control. None of these guys seemed to have that.
From the vid it seemed to me that both "our boy" and the narrator were both a bit panic-y. When the narrator later explained that they would go on to take DM training, i though whoa! If you have any predisposition to panic in any dive situation, you really should not be in the DM role. People are going to depend on you.
When we do the deep dive portion of AOW at the shop i work for, we take them down on a rope to the deck of wreck. and we all collect ourselves for a minute or two. This looked like a high speed, heads down, free descent. No wonder there were ear drum probs.
My first thought was "where the hell is the instructor?"
I'm only just barely open water certified and I can't believe how quickly they went down. I'd try to take way more time than that, I don't see what the rush is, especially when inexperienced.
So I'm no expert, but that guy who was constantly kicking his legs to stay level was doing something wrong, right?
