Spirit if we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in US but if we confess our sins God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness let us then confess our sins to God our Father most merciful god we confess that we are by Nature sinful and unclean we have sinned against you in thought word and deed by what we have done and by what we have left unknown we have not loved you about cold heart we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves we just serve your present and eternal punishment for the sake of your son Jesus Christ and forever [Music] thank you the Old Testament reading to the fourth Sunday after Trinity is from Genesis chapter 50. when Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead if they said it may be that Joseph will hate us and pay us back for all the evil that we did to him so they sent a message to Joseph saying your father gave this command before he died say to Joseph please forgive the transgression of your brothers and their sins because they did Evil to you and now please forgive the transgression of the Servants of the god of your father Joseph wept when they spoke to him his brothers also came and fell down before him and said behold we are your servants but Joseph said to them do not fear for am I in the place of God As for you you had evil against me but God meant it for good to bring it about that many people should be kept alive as they are today so do not fear I will provide for you and your little rights bossy comforted them and spoke kindly to them this is the word of the Lord foreign [Music] for the glory of your name Deliver Us the abyssalis from Romans chapter 8. for I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us for the creation Waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God for the creation was subjected to futility not willingly but because of him who subjected it in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to Decay and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God for we know that the whole creation has been growing together in the Pains of childbirth until now and not only the creation but we ourselves who have the first fruits of the spirit grown inwardly as we wait eagerly for an adoption as Sons the Redemption of our bodies this is the word of the Lord [Music] look at us [Music] the holy Gospel According to Saint Luke the sixth chapter Glory To You O Lord Jesus said be merciful even as your father is merciful judge not be judged condemnon and you will not be condemned forgive and you will be forgiven give and it will be given to you good measure press down shaken together running over will be put into your lap for with the measure you use it will be measured back to you he also told the parable can a blind man lead a blind man will they not both fall into a pit a disciple is not above his teacher but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye but do not notice the log that is in your own eye how can you say to your brother brother let me take out that Speck that's in your eye when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eyes you hypocrite First Take the Long out of your own eye and then you will see clearly to take out the spec that is in your brother's eye this is the gospel of the Lord praise the Youth of Christ [Music] here [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] yourself [Music] away [Music] thank you [Music] because you should take care of us [Music] foreign [Music] because [Music] somebody amen foreign [Music] foreign [Music] one of the best known sayings is when Christ said judge not in other words don't stand in personal Judgment of your brother before you presume to take the spec out of your brother's eye First Take the Long out of your own in other words don't try to take God's place but before we consider what it does mean in its fullness we must first understand what his passage does not mean Christ does not forbid all judging for instance God says to those in position Authority as in governmental leaders parents teachers employers managers at work that they are to judge imagine that no one in a position of legitimate Authority can do their job without judging others people's work and behavior try raising a family without judging your children's conduct it can't be gone secondly judge not may not be used to reject or to massage God's will to your liking when Christ says judge not it doesn't mean that we should not judge between What God Says is right and what he proclaims to be wrong in fact we are required to judge those things now Luke 6 is part of Christ's Sermon on the Mount it includes the strictest law that is found anywhere in the Bible and Christ's command judge not is God's law it declares God's standard for how we are to think speak and to act who may not use another one of God's laws and yet that's exactly what people often do Christians are often forbidden condemned and laughed at for calling a sin a sin abortion divorce sex outside marriage homosexuality illegal drug use underage drinking and a whole host of other sins are no longer by many considered sins at all and even people who claim to speak for God who pass laws and who preach from pulpits tell people that they may not judge sins because it's simply the wrong thing to do but when God's word has already judged what's right and what's wrong Christians Christians accept the Judgment that God has made and yet it's true Christians are often afraid to take a stand for what's right and to reject what is wrong and why because we've been taught that if we do so we're going to be labeled by the people out there as judgmental judge not these words have been used as an excuse for every kind of imaginable sin but the words of God's prophet Isaiah stand forever woe to those who call evil good and good evil who put Darkness or light and light for Darkness who put bitter for sweet and Sweet for bitter again these words do not mean you're not to judge between true and false teaching between God's right and God's wrong as Christians we remember thankfully there is forgiveness from God for every kind of sin even the most wicked kind of perversion and cruelty that is imaginable but that forgiveness is given only in the pure preaching of the gospel and in the right administration of Christ's holy sacraments when the words of Christ judge not are twisted into forbidding us from judging the abuse the misuse or the non-use of God's holy word we must not cave to this human tyranny for only God's pure gospel has power that we all have such need for be merciful Christ Jesus says just as your father is merciful and where and when is the Father's Mercy revealed is shown to us in word and sacrament but not in this generic humanly inoffensive use that we so often see one that kind of mutters these these generic cliches but oh how much that God loves us no you see it's in the purely preached biblical gospel it's in the rightly administered Sacrament it is centered only in the full preaching of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection that is where you see God's true love so God's word requires us to judge all false Gospels because without the true gospel we have no mercy from God no forgiveness and no everlasting life but that does not stop those who do not trust or love God's word from trying to browbeat us by misusing judge not and when they've succeeded in forbidding us or dissuading US from judging the falsehoods we've been charged by God to condemn if we no longer do the things that God has given us to do to Prime sinners the Forgiveness of sins why because if we don't condemn sin with God's truth they can't know that they are sinners in need of forgiveness it is for the sake of Sinners under the burden of sin that must judge between true teaching and false teaching I cannot think of a greater Distortion of the Holy scriptures than the false idea that Christ's words against judging forbid Christians from judging false teaching thank God in the fourth Century athanasius judged the false teaching of those who were denying the true deity of Christ if Christ wasn't true God and true man he couldn't be our savior and we would still be under God's judgment but that false teaching was condemned thank God in the 16th century Martin Luther jumped the false doctrine of the Pope who was teaching that good works are absolutely necessary for salvation if our good works helped save us then twice Jesus as God's word says didn't really suffer fully for our sins on the cross and he didn't really forgive us when he died there significant Christ would then be uncertain and we would remain under God's judgment there's always been and there will always be the need to identify and to condemn false teaching that hides God's grace in Christ from the human soul thank God for the servants who sounded the alarm when error threatens you see all false teaching ultimately leads us away from the simple trust which is in the Forgiveness of sins life and salvation given in the purely preached gospel and in a rightly administered sacraments of Christ for all false teaching therefore keeps those who believe those falsehoods that they have heard it keeps them under God's judge and condemn any teaching that would attack God's word on any point Christ Jesus warns us about false prophets and he warns us about false teachers and Saint Paul by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit tells us to Mark and to avoid them why why because there is truth is falsehood true gospel brings us out from under God's judgment and sets us free the many false teachings that are believed leave these misbelievers under God's judgment the true gospel reveals a real and Powerful Mercy from a loving father who saw us in our sin and laid all that sin on his beloved Son who then willingly bore that judgment and that condemnation in our the true gospel tells us that in our baptism God has graciously adopted us as his children the true gospel tells us that Christ feeds us with his true body and blood in the true gospel God brings us to repentance by speaking words of pure and boundless love to our deepest guilt and shame we must and by God's grace we will judge and condemn every false gospel we hear because by faith we know we need God's mercy that we live alone by God's mercy and it is only when we've received it that we can understand Christ's command be merciful judge not condemn not forgive those who refuse to stand in judgment against false teaching usually are those who are quite at ease standing in judgment against their neighbor those who tolerate errors in Doctrine are quite intolerant of their neighbor's errors why do we find such pleasure in judging one another what compels us to condemn each other to withhold forgiveness from one another is it not our sense of guilt and our own fear of judgment but do we make ourselves better or remove God's judgment from ourselves when we choose to assign evil motives to our brothers and to our sisters of course not we aren't made better when we try to explain the actions of others in such a way as to make them look bad and ourselves good by comparison in fact the very opposite is the case when we stand in personal Judgment of others when we Delight in exposing their sins we deny the mercy God that has shown to us we deny the faith and we bring God's judgment on ourselves the essence the Nugget of Christian faith is the mercy of our heavenly father who for Christ's sake Lots out every sin therefore the heart of Christian love is to cover up the wrongs of our neighbor just as God for Christ's sake has covered up our wrongs with his blood what are we doing when we hold grudges in others use ourselves as they would condemn others we're doing nothing less than rejecting the true faith that proclaims we all need God's mercy we're rejecting the life that's lived under that Mercy we are embracing personal judgment and private condemnation as better are we so concerned over our own reputation that we get hot at the thought of how people run us down judging condemning and putting the worst construction on everything we do so that so that we forget our reputations are no more valuable than the reputations of those that we choose to judge or have we forgotten that our only worthiness to Glory our only honor is in the crucifixion of the Son of God for us Where Mercy incarnate met and satisfied the Divine demands of justice so that we could receive God's mercy from the blind lead the line they both fall into the dish Christ must be our only leader because he alone is the true light that has come into the world and so yes we judge and we give them all sin and all false teaching that command we have received from God but we do so for the sake of the gospel for the sake of others that like ourselves need the mercy that God has given to us in Christ Christian love doesn't rejoice in evil doesn't enjoy finding bulk it rejoices in the truth finding its greatest joy and the Forgiveness of sins do you find yourself judging condemning criticizing blaming and finding fault you need a clear conscience and only God can give it are you living in some sin without any repentance are you afraid to admit to God what you're doing is wrong but does your conscience condemn you do you feel like God is judging you try to use Christ's words judge not as a license as a license to keep on doing what you know is wrong and do you then appease your own accusing conscience by laying judgment on Those whom you think might be standing in judgment against you I invite you to look where all judgment is silenced look and see Christ Jesus hanging on the cross bearing God's judgment against you see in Christ God's mercy for you and that that Mercy is for all people you may mask but you cannot rid God's judgment from Yourself by standing in Judgment of others that's Christ's work and in fact he has done it completely and he has given it to you through faith in his blood and you can't lose it by giving it to others so remember to cover up the folds of your brothers and sisters imitating the mercy of your heavenly father is never a loss for you Faith knows that it lives under and by that great and merciful wondrous greatness of God who has love for us in Christ and it is for his sake we offer God's forgiveness personal judgment's place you see Christians deal as we have been dealt in Jesus precious name amen obey the peace of God which passes all understandings if your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus amen I believe in one God the Father Almighty maker of heaven and Earth and of all things visible and invisible and in one Lord Jesus Christ The Only God Son of God begotten of his father before all worlds God God every God every God begotten not made men and for our Salvation came down from heaven and once incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary and was made man and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate he suffered and was buried and the third day he rose again according to the scriptures and ascended into heaven and sit at the right hand of the father and he will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead whose kingdom will have no land and I believe in the Holy Spirit the Lord and Giver of Life who proceeds from the father and the son who went the father and the son together is worshiped and glorified who spoke by the prophets and I believe in one holy Christian and Apostolic church I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins and I look for the resurrection of the Dead and the light of the world to come remembering always to give thanks to the Lord that he has founded his church upon the pure preaching of the gospel and right administration of the sacraments let us pray for the church throughout the world and for all people according to their needs for such faithful preaching and right administration of his saving sacraments that the Lord would continue to raise up strengthen and encourage all those serving in the office of the public Ministry for the leaders of our nation our president our governor the Judiciary that they would protect all human life especially that of the weak and the vulnerable and that they were governed with courage and wisdom especially giving attention to those so terribly afflicted by fire and storm for the second homebound especially Laura drinking Jerry mcgilbrey Tom Matson and Connie Joe Gokey for the poor needy those with mental illness or the institutions that care for them For Those whom death draws near that God would provide faithful care and loving compassion during their time of need for Leslie bushel and in thankfulness for the safe delivery of a healthy son keep him to the Waters of holy baptism and the receiving of your grace for the grace of Christ's enduring love through Roger Williams and his new ride Gene for a compassionate and christ-like response from all of us for the suffering and need that we see in our fellow human beings as we witness the need for help from we who've been spared these particular reflections for refreshing and quenching the rain we plead for the right reception of Christ's holy body and blood in the sacrament of the altar that God would grant us true repentance of heart and bind us together in the body of Christ for the Salvation of our souls all these petitions and whatever else you know that we need Heavenly Father Grant to us in the name of Our Risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ please be seated welcome to all of you today it is our duty and Delight to celebrate the sacrament of our Lord's body and blood confess about this sacrament of God's word says it that it offers to under to us under the outward forms of bread and wine that our body in the very blood of Christ being the drink and that it gives to us the greatest blessing we have need for the forgiveness of sin We Believe teaching confess also that this Sacrament gets to be celebrated in the unity of the faith that we confess before this altar therefore we practice what's called Closer closed or Fellowship Community if you're a member of Trinity or if you've spoken to Pastor Sharon or myself about receiving the sacrament here and you intend to do so today please fill out the card Mark uh you know put your name and a mark next to it and hand this glorious Resurrection open to us the way all of the heaven therefore with angels and Dark Angels and with all the company of Heaven we lord and magnify your glory for your name ever more praising you will answer again [Music] Lord [Music] of your glory yes [Music] [Applause] Lord remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray Our Father who art in heaven Hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on Earth as it is in heaven as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but Deliver Us from Evil for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever amen our Lord Jesus Christ on the night when he was betrayed to bread and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to the disciples and said take eat this is my body which is I will be gone for my father-in-law's 90th birthday in Nebraska so for today and next Sunday we will not have Sunday school or today and next Sunday we will not have Sunday school we'll Begin Again the uh third Sunday in July then we will have Sunday school again and uh I know that that will cause a severe difficulty for some of you but given the fact that Pastor Cheryl has nine of our Sunday school participants in the young side why that puts a little dent in our participation anyway so uh we'll uh we'll go ahead and cancel for the next two Sundays and um have a blessed and happy and safe
