>> Crazy Nate: Did you think I was just going to just let this movie float on by, and I didn’t see all of your little comments? No worries, I’ve gotcha covered. Today, we’re going on a new adventure with everything you missed in Disney-Pixar’s movie, Up. [intro music plays] >> Crazy Nate: Do you remember the Pixar Short, Presto? It's a story about a magic hat and the magic rabbit that just wanted to eat a little carrot. Well the stage that Charles Muntz decides to show his discovery on, is the same stage that the magician performed his little magic act on. [Rabbit eats carrot] Fun little fact, Paradise Falls is based on a real water fall. And the water falls so far, that by the time it hits the ground it’s just a mist. But in the movie, they stretched out the waterfall to make it 3x longer than the real life one. Speaking of measurements, 43,976 feet used to be the real altitude record. Basically, meaning how high we can fly. However, in 1933 Gustave Lemoine crushed the record with a new world record of 44,819 ft. So Muntz isn’t the one to break the record. That’s right, that’s just Fake News! Pixar can be pretty clever sometimes. In this scene we see Carl FALL for Ellie for the first time. Get what they did there? You get it? The house #18 is actually the address of Bob Peterson’s Grandparents house in real life. Bob Peterson’s the co-director by the way. Another thing we find from his grandparents house is the “clock of life” sign that was in Carl’s kitchen. His grandparents had the same exact sign in their kitchen. A cloud full of babies. This sounds like a reference to Pixars short, Partly Cloudy which was also included in the movie Up. They even have a stork painted on the wall. Those white wall tires are the same tires that Lightning Mcqueen uses in Cars. Recognize that postcard? It was seen in Toy Story 3, and that ambulance can be seen in the movie “Toy Story that Time Forgot”. And that license plate. That’s a little reference to the release date of the movie. The movie was released in 2009 in the month of May. But that’s not all. If you look close on the top of the license plate it says 1934, also on the little badge of the ambulance it says 1934. In 1934 Walt Disney started production of his very first, fully animated feature that he ever did, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Here’s another fun little fact that you might not have known about Walt Disney. In World War 1 he drove an ambulance for the Red Cross. He also lied about his age because he was to young to be driving in the military. You remember the Pixar Short, Knick Knack right? Where the poor little snowman's stuck in his little snow globe. Well if you're a Pixar fan you would think that flying to Sunny Miami would be quite a great place to travel to right? So it makes sense that this little Miami girl from Knick Knack was in the Travel office on the brochure. Shika BAM! Ellie was voiced By Ellie Docter, sound familiar? That’s because she’s the daughter of Pete Docter, and yes Carls Ellie, was named after Pete’s daughter, Ellie. You're already familiar with the Luxo ball and the Luxo lamp right? Well have you ever heard of Luxo Drugs before? That’s apparently where Carl gets his medication filled. Also while we are in the bedroom you will notice the painting on the wall behind him was painted by his wife. Of course, that makes sense. Carl and Ellie could go down as the cutest couple in Pixar history. If you didn’t cry when Carl lost his wife in this scene, then you’re, you’re a... >> Ginger Bread Man: You're a monster! >> Crazy Nate: We can learn a lesson from Carl here. When you give your information to a tourist company, they are going to be sending you junk mail for the rest of your life. There’s a lot of rumors spreading around this little Russel guy, but let’s just focus on the facts about this kid. First of all if you think he looks familiar, it’s probably because he was modeled after Peter Sohn. Remember, that’s the guy who directed The Good Dinosaur? Russel obviously worked hard to collect all of his badges. Apparently being in a Pixar movie though gets him a Pixar ball badge. >> Russel: You may notice, one is missing. >> Crazy Nate: The one badge that he was missing though just happened to be right over his heart, that was not by accident though It was a reflection of the relationship he had with Carl, and how by the end of the movie they both found what they were looking for. Russel was looking for a father figure in his life, while Carl wanted someone to find new adventures with. >> Carl: You ever heard of a snipe?! >> Russel: Snipe? >> Crazy Nate: In case you don’t know what a snipe is, basically its not real. It’s a practical joke that typically is played on new comers of camp out groups like the Royal Rangers or the Boy Scouts. And yes, I’ve been a victim of snipe hunting. On the bulldozer we find another easter egg. Lou Ramano was one of the Lighting Directors, and Lou was born on April 15th, 1972. L 4 15 72. Now, I know Carl got in trouble for whacking this guy in the head, but if you ask me, the guy had Carls property and wouldn’t let go, so I think Carl had every right to protect his property. Survey Time! What do you think. Do you think Carl was in the right, or should he have been punished? When Car'l’s going to face the judge you will see another easter egg. The room in the courthouse is A113 If you paid close attention to detail of the Shady Oaks employees, you will notice that George is neat and tidy while seeming to have a genuine concern for people, while A.J. on the other hand is messy, tags sticking out, hasn’t shaved, and his name tag says Nancy. Pete Doctor the director said that was to show he just grabbed any random uniform from work and couldn’t possibly care any less about his job. We can see Losto-huggin from toy story 3 still not being played with. Toy Story 3 was the very next movie to come out after Up, and they like to hide secrets to their next movie in their current movies that you're watching all the time. There’s the Pixar ball, and no, that is NOT the plane from Toy Story. It has two sets of wings, and the Toy Story plane only has one set of wings. We see the pizza planet delivery truck a few times in this movie. The first time is when the house is floating away, we can see it down in the street below. and there’s another Pizza planet truck rolling out of the parking lot. See the rocket on top and the little white camper shell. There's another spot I'll show you in just a second. >> Russel: Hey, that one looks like a turtle. >> Crazy Nate: When the Pixar team went on their little research trip for making the movie Up, they actually found a rock that was in the shape of a turtle. So that's a little nod to what they found on their little adventure, and it’s not Crush from finding Nemo. >> Russel: And afterwards we go get icecream at Fentons. >> Crazy Nate: Back in the good old days, Russel's dad used to take him to Fenton's to get ice-cream. That’s so nice of him. Get this though. You know Pixar animation studios is located in Emeryville California, right? Duh. You want to know what’s an 11 minute drive from Pixar Studios though? That's right, Fentons Creamery. And they have flowers in front of their shop, and they have a bench to sit on facing the street. I bet you anything, some of Pixar employees have been there quite a few times before. It’s too bad Ellie didn’t draw a hat on that platypus, then it would of been an easter egg to Perry the Platypus, instead it’s just a platypus. One cool thing though, is Pete Doctors daughter Ellie actually drew that platypus. [mirror breaks] >> Crazy Nate: Oh no, Carl just broke a mirror, so now he's gonna have like 7 years bad luck. I wonder if that will catch up to him in Up 2. Just kidding, just kidding, there’s no such thing as luck, besides it’s bad luck to believe in luck. These dogs playing cards is referencing to Cassius Marcellus Coolidge. What ever, that's is. I can't say it! If you don’t know who that is, he's known as "the most famous American artist you've never heard of.” You probably seen his dog painting though and didn’t even notice it was from him. But look harder and you'll notice some of his dogs are cheating. Meanwhile back in Up, that dog right there, is also cheating. Here’s another thing you might of missed inside the blimp. Look closely at Charles Muntz collection, See the skull? That skull is Gazerbeams skull from the Incredilbles. Now I can already see some of the comments now. That’s not the same skull. It doesn’t even look the same. Keep in mind, The animation style of these two movies aren't exactly the same. But some of you won't believe me no matter what I say. So you can just listen to Pete Doctor's comments on this little subject, while I sit here and drink a glass of I told you so. >> Pete Doctor: There's actually a skull on the wall in the back behind Muntz, and I think it's duplicated again later in the fight, it's actually Gazer Beams skull from the Incredibles. >> Crazy Nate: That was good. HAHAH! >> Charles Muntz: Epsilon is the finest chef I've ever had. >> Crazy Nate: Epsilon is the finest chef? Sounds like something we would be hearing out of Ratatouille. Look closely though at the dinner table, and you will recognize the silverware and the dishes are actually from Ratatouille, including the scallop dinner. Not including the hot dog. If you watch in slow motion you'll see the skeleton of the scary fish that tried to kill Dory and Marlin in Finding Nemo. But as long as we are on the death subject. It’s not very often in a Disney movie that the bad guy dies, in this case though , Pixar made an exception. One reason is because Charles Muntz symbolized the old Carl, and the old Carl had to die in order for the new Carl to be able to make all his little new adventures. Another reason though is probably because Charles Muntz was named after Charles Mintz. Charles Mintz is the guy that basically took the Ozwald character away from Walt Disney forcing him to make the Mickey Mouse character. So basically he was basically Walt’s enemy. Have a nice fall Charles Mintz, I mean Muntz. >> Charles Muntz: Ahhh! [music plays] >> Charles Muntz: Ahhh! >> Crazy Nate: obviously, we all know that the Ellie badge is called the Ellie badge because Ellie gave it to Carl, and clearly it’s from a grape soda bottle. You know who else has grape soda? Toy Story. That’s right, Toy story is littered with grape soda cans… in the commercials, the back of the pizza planet truck, Sids room, and probably more than that. >> Woody: What an idiot! >> Crazy Nate: And the last time that we can see the pizza plane truck is inside Fentons parking lot in the corner. See the little pizza planet truck. Always stick around for the credits, Pixar likes to hide stuff in there too. Here we can see Star Wars located in Oakland, which is also near Pixar studios. At the time that Up came out, Disney didn’t own the Star Wars Franchise just yet, so perhaps this was a hint that they were in the process of Purchasing that wonderful Jedi.
