Descendants: A fan-favorite film series on
Disney Channel that centers around four Villain Kids: Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos. Growing up in the Isle of the Lost, they initially
came to Auradon to follow Maleficent's plan. Which was to steal Fairy Godmother’s wand
and break the barrier of the Isle. But that all changed when the Core Four realized
that they are so much more than their parents’ shadows. Since then, they have gradually adapted to
their new lives in Auradon, especially Mal. But the question will always remain… who
is the most good? And who is the most evil? Let’s break it down. I’m Brad with WickedBinge, and this is Descendants:
Good to Evil. Firstly, we would like to add that we did
not include characters from Descendants: Wicked World or the book series. All listed characters are from the movie franchise. As usual, we’ll be starting with the most
pure and working our way down. These characters are The Good. The gold medal for most good goes to Fairy
Godmother, mother of Jane and headmistress of Auradon Prep. Fairy Godmother is a wise, kind and accepting
teacher, who gave up on magic because she cares about what comes from the inside. She was the first adult at the school to welcome
the VKs and she even taught them how to be good during her “Remedial Goodness” class. Despite the fact that they almost stole her
wand to give to Maleficent, she forgave them anyway and gave them an A in the class for
their change of heart. She also chases away the press from Ben and
Mal when they keep getting cornered with multiple questions. Another thing about Fairy Godmother is that
she knows when something goes wrong and does what she can to prevent the worst from happening. For example, when Uma and a spelled Ben try
to demand her to bring down the barrier of the Isle, she refuses their orders and guards
her wand from getting into Uma’s hand. Talk about having such good will. The silver medal goes to Ben, son of Belle
and Beast, fiancee to Mal, and king of Auradon. Ben first welcomed the Core Four to Auradon,
giving them a chance at redemption and to attend Auradon Prep among the rest of the
AKs. Despite the fact that many people were displeased
about their arrival, including Beast, Ben was the one person that saw good in the VKs. He is willing to do anything to help them
and grant them equal opportunities among the citizens of Auradon. But he does tend to have a temper similar
to his dad. For example, when Ben finds out that Mal has
been using her spell book to fit in at Auradon, he confronts her dishonesty and vents his
frustrations from taking on the role as king... As if Mal isn’t going through enough pressure
herself. However, he realizes that he took it too far
and attempts to make things right with Mal by going to the Isle to find her with the
assistance of the VKs. If it wasn’t for Ben’s selflessness, none
of the VKs would have helped in making a difference in Auradon. The bronze medal goes to Carlos, son of Cruella
de Vil. Carlos is the nicer VK of the Core Four and
rarely does anything bad. Having been treated like a slave by his mom
for a long time, he is obedient and doesn’t like to go against authority. But he is more than willing to do what it
takes when it comes to helping his friends. For example, he makes a decoy of the magic
wand to avoid having to give the real one to Uma. Although the plan eventually backfires, it
was a good plan while it lasted and it distracts her for the time being to save Ben from the
pirate crew. Behind Carlos is Evie, daughter of the Evil
Queen and founder of her own fashion line, Evie’s 4 Hearts. Due to her mother’s vanity, Evie initially
wanted nothing more than to be the fairest of them all and find a perfect prince to marry. But after meeting Doug and being convinced
by Mal at Ben’s coronation to choose good, she realizes that she is much more than a
pretty face. She also does whatever she can to help a friend
in need or initiate a plan to help a great cause. Such as helping Ben blend in with the Isle
while trying to find Mal, assisting to make changes to Mal’s dress for Cotillion if
she wants to go, and declaring the idea to compose a list of kids from the Isle of the
Lost to come to Auradon. She also tends to play peacemaker in certain
situations. In Descendants 3, she brings up an icebreaker
to get her friends to settle their differences with Uma, Harry and Gil. Then there have been times where Evie will
call out Mal whenever she notices that she did something wrong. For example, when Mal was using her spell
book to impress Ben as Lady of the Court, Evie scolds her for her dishonesty and tells
her to give up the book to Fairy Godmother. She also confronts Mal for lying to her and
the other VKs about bringing more Isle of the Lost children to Auradon when she initially
declared the barrier and the VK program to be shut down. Given that the situation was hectic due to
having to stop Audrey, she had every right to be upset. Even if Mal chose to stick with her initial
plan, Evie would understand either way since this was only for Auradon’s safety. Luckily, her morality on the whole situation
influenced Mal to take down the barrier forever and finally bring unity to the two worlds. Behind Evie is her best friend Mal, daughter
of Maleficent and Hades, and future queen of Auradon and the Isle of the Lost. Mal previously wanted to be just like her
mother: pure evil. Throughout the first movie, she would act
ruthless and cruel to others, especially when it came to trying to prove herself to Maleficent
that she is evil. She would come up with anything to get close
to Fairy Godmother’s wand, such as manipulating Jane over her insecurities and making a love
potion to spell Ben so that she could get a spot at the first row as his girlfriend. However, that all changes at the last minute
when Mal realizes that she truly is good and doesn’t want to be like her mom. Despite her mean girl facade, she is caring
and protective of her loved ones. For example, she rescues Ben from Uma in exchange
for a fake wand to keep her from destroying Auradon. She also turns into a dragon a few times to
keep others out of harm’s way. However, the only reason Mal got ranked behind
Evie is for the way she handles certain situations when it comes to making difficult choices. For example, she lies to the VKs about bringing
more kids from the Isle when she initially proposed to close the barrier for good thus
ensuring Auradon’s safety. But after the fact, she realizes the wrongdoing
of this decision thanks to Evie, and comes through to do the right thing. She declares the barrier to be brought down
for good so that Auradon and the Isle of the Lost can live together in unity. In the end, she turned from the most feared
Villain Kid to the most admired royalty figure of Auradon and the Isle. Then we have Jay, son of Jafar and captain
of the Auradon Prep tourney team. In the beginning, Jay wanted to gain his father’s
approval by stealing the “big prize,” also known as the wand. He would steal anything that seemed valuable
or just something to keep. But then he learns to value friendship and
teamwork, even acting more like a big brother to his friends. He is also very protective towards his friends. For example, when Harry Hook tries to get
too close to Mal by using Ben’s endangerment to taunt her, Jay shows up on her side to
make sure that he doesn’t hurt her. That’s what a big brother should always
do. Now we have one of the younger VKs: Dizzy,
daughter of Drizella Tremaine. There really isn't anything bad to say about
her. If Dizzy was born in Auradon, she would have
been considered a goody two shoes with no doubt that she couldn’t be bad. However, circumstances are different for her,
given that she grew up on the Isle of the Lost. Unlike her family, Dizzy is a sweet and loving
girl who enjoys fashion design, music, and creativity. She gave Mal a new hairstyle during her arrival
back at the Isle. She also gives Evie all of her handmade accessories
with the hope that Evie would wear them so that she would feel as if she was in Auradon
herself. But thanks to Evie, she is the first person
to be selected by the Core Four to finally go to Auradon. Dizzy is also protective of others around
her. When the VKs went back to the Isle to get
Hades's ember and stop Audrey, she looks after the Smee twins until they are safe. Although they appear very little in the last
movie, we decided to throw in Squeaky and Squirmy, twin sons of Mr. Smee. We can’t say anything bad about them. Squeaky and Squirmy are nice boys who are
timid and shy around others. When the twins are chosen by the Core Four
to come along with Dizzy and Celia, they gradually become comfortable around the VKs. Initially, they did not want to split apart
since they always prefer to be together. However, they had nothing to worry about since
they got separately chosen by Carlos and Jay. They also care about their dad a lot. When the barrier finally gets taken down,
the twins were so happy to see their dad again. Then we have Evie’s boyfriend: Doug, son
of Dopey, one of the seven dwarfs from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and a member of
Auradon Prep’s marching band. Doug is a smart, sweet, yet socially awkward
young man. Despite knowing of his family’s past with
the Evil Queen, he fell in love with Evie the moment he laid eyes on her. He even defended her when she got scolded
and threatened by Mr. Deley, who accused her of cheating. Not only does he help Evie grow her business
as a fashion designer, he shows her that she doesn’t need to rely on a prince for her
fairytale ending. Up next we have Lonnie, daughter of Mulan
and captain of the Swords and Shields team. Desiring to be as cool as the VKs, Lonnie
was the second person in line to get her hair magically done by Mal. Unlike most Auradon kids, Lonnie is more open
minded about the VKs coming to Auradon Prep. She is very friendly to them and doesn’t
look down on them as wicked villains. However, she was quick to turn on them after
Mal was confronted by Queen Leah. Despite the heat of the moment from that situation,
Lonnie eventually becomes friendly to the VKs again at the end of the first movie. In the sequel, she is very strong-willed that
she really wants to be a part of Swords and Shields, even though it’s an all-male team. She receives misogynistic remarks from Chad
as a result of trying to land a spot before eventually becoming the team captain. She also has a brave heart and is eager to
do anything to help someone in trouble. When she overhears that Ben got captured,
she volunteers to help Jay and Carlos get back to the Isle of the Lost to rescue him
and fight Uma and her pirates. The next Auradon kid is Jane, daughter of
Fairy Godmother. Jane is initially shy and fearful of the VKs
at their arrival. Despite the fact that Mal changed her hair,
partly to help her feel good, she insults her after the Family Day incident to feel
accepted by Audrey. When Mal reverses the hair spell, her insecurities
get the better of her when she tries to take her mom’s wand to learn how to use magic
and make her look and feel pretty again. But in the sequel, she becomes outgoing, more
self-accepting, has a happy demeanor, and is more relaxed around the VKs. Especially with Carlos, who she develops a
romantic relationship with as the movies progress. She is confident in getting things done when
she helps with Cotilion’s decorating committee. She is also rebellious when it comes to helping
her friends. For example, she displays Ben’s gift for
Mal to try to break him out of Uma’s spell and change his mind. She also takes enchanted lake water to turn
Ben back to his normal self after getting a splinter from Maleficent’s scepter. We can definitely say that Jane has changed
for the better. Below Dizzy is Celia, daughter of Dr. Facilier. Celia is known to be feisty, sassy, and has
a knack for being mean. She is also known to be mischievous and witty,
especially when it comes to making money with a little help from her dad. For that reason, Mal points out that she could
use a little time in Fairy Godmother’s “Remedial Goodness” class. However, what puts Celia in the Good list
is that she can be loyal, caring, and brave when she needs to be. She cares for her loved ones, especially Dizzy
and her dad, and will do anything to protect them. She is also trustworthy as she was willing
to keep Mal’s secret about Hades for the time being. But most of all, she doesn’t tolerate blatant
deception about important matters and has a strong sense of morality. For example, Celia calls out Mal for lying
to the rest of the VKs about the situation with closing the barrier. This was given the fact that she would’ve
never seen her dad again if Mal went through with the initial plan. Now here is Mr. Smee, father of Squeaky and
Squirmy. Though he has performed villainous acts to
help Captain Hook and a crew of brutal pirates to take vengeance towards Peter Pan, Mr. Smee
is actually a kind-hearted soul who is overlooked by others. In Descendants 3, he cares for his twin sons
and wants nothing but the best for them. Next we have Belle and Beast, parents to Ben,
and former king and queen of Auradon. They are ranked in that order. Initially suspicious of Ben’s proclamation
to allow the Core Four to come to Auradon, Belle was willing to give them and the rest
of the second-generation villains a chance. The same way she had done with Beast when
he was under his beastly curse. She is kind hearted, level-headed and she
is willing to listen to someone else’s opinions. For example, she became accepting towards
Mal and Ben as a couple when she told him that he was doing the right thing by helping
the VKs. Unlike Belle, Beast is hot-headed when he
disagrees with something, especially when it comes to his son’s proclamation. He is especially dismayed when Ben introduces
Mal as his new girlfriend. But even more so when Chad is put under a
temporary sleeping spell due to the fight that erupted between him and Jay on Family
Day. As a result, Beast put the blame on Ben. However, he eventually comes around and is
willing to see where things go with the VKs. Especially with Mal and Ben’s relationship. To round off the Good characters is Coach
Jenkins, coach of the Auradon Prep tourney team and one of the only non-Disney characters. Coach Jenkins guided Jay into becoming a better
tourney player and helped him learn to work in a team. Despite the fact that his only appearance
was in the first movie, he played a big role in helping Jay control his aggression and
teaching him the values of teamwork. With that said, we’ve wrapped up the Good
characters. Let’s get onto the Grey Area. The Disney villain to start off the Grey List
is Lady Tremaine, mother of Anastasia and Drizella, and grandmother of Dizzy. Like Ursula, Lady Tremaine has a voiceover
cameo in the sequel. She yells at her to knock off the racket when
she gets hyped a couple of times. She is more stern towards Dizzy than she is
with her own daughters. Despite this, she always looks out for her. When she makes an appearance in Descendants
3, she makes sure Dizzy has her things and wishes her to be safe on her way to Auradon. Showing that she cares greatly for her granddaughter. Then we have Gil, son of Gaston. The only similarity Gil has with his dad is
that he acts before thinking. Besides that, he is a thick-headed, happy-go-lucky
guy who does his best to keep up with Uma and Harry when it comes to orders. Especially given that he has been a part of
the pirate gang for a long time and will follow them anywhere they go. If he didn’t tell Uma about Ben’s whereabouts
on the Isle of the Lost, he wouldn’t have been captured. But on the other hand, he is a nice guy towards
people he cares about. He also becomes very friendly towards Jay
and develops a bromance with him at the end of the franchise. Up next is no other than Hades, the estranged
father of Mal and formerly the God of the Underworld in Hercules. In the beginning of Descendants 3, the encounter
between Hades and Mal for the first time in years is when he tries to break the barrier. Leading up to a showdown to try to keep him
locked in. Because of the fact that Hades’s magic is
impossibly strong compared to Mal, it almost drains all of her powers. As explained in the song, “Do What You Gotta
Do,” Hades was never there for 16 years of Mal’s life. Not only because he couldn’t stand Maleficent,
but he wanted Mal to grow up an independent woman. Which was his defense for not showing up after
all of these years and makes him offsetting. However, he does show love for his daughter
and wants to protect her. For example, at the end of Descendants 3,
he secretly gives Mal his Ember and comes back to see her when the barrier is taken
down. He also gives Ben the “I’m watching you”
eyes to show him that he’s the kind of dad who will protect his daughter from any guy
who hurts her. Good thing Hades finally came through. Below Celia is her father Dr. Facilier, the
notorious tarot reader from The Princess and the Frog, and founder and headmaster of Dragon
Hall at the Isle of the Lost. Despite Dr. Facilier's history of swindling
clients, he is actually a decent man when it comes to raising Celia. He cares for her very much and when making
money, he tells her, "Make sure you get your cut." But his influence has made her just as mischievous
as him. So her similar ways of doing business can
go for better or worse. Now back to the VKs with Uma, daughter of
Ursula. In the sequel, Uma has been known to be the
main villain as a result of being raised by her mom. She is ambitious to get revenge on Auradon
for being trapped on the Isle all her life and on her arch enemy, Mal. Not only due to their longtime rivalry going
back to their childhood, but because she got picked to go to Auradon instead of her. But that doesn’t justify capturing Ben,
putting him under a love spell to hurt Mal and get the wand, and harming the citizens
of Auradon at cotillion. However, despite her tough exterior, she does
care for her pirate crew and the citizens of Auradon. She also gradually becomes more trusting towards
Mal after Audrey is defeated, which finally puts their arch rivalry to rest. Behind Uma is Harry, son of Captain Hook and
a member of Uma’s pirate gang. Harry is prideful, sneaky, wild, and always
ready to hook someone, especially when Ben got captured. He is put in the Grey Area to no one’s surprise. He steals money from Dizzy moments after she
got paid by Mal for her hair appointment and taunts the other VKs every chance he gets. However, in Descendants 3, it shows that he
truly cares for Uma and Gil, and gradually starts to trust the Core Four after Audrey’s
defeat. Next up is Queen Leah, mother of Princess
Aurora and grandmother of Audrey. In the first movie, Queen Leah is shown to
be cordial to Audrey and the Auradon civilians. But another side of her shows her mistrust
of the Villain Kids, especially Mal. Her attitude towards the VKs is due to dealing
with Maleficent's curse on Aurora many years ago. As a result, she loses 16 years with her daughter,
who was forced into hiding under the protection of the three fairies. Because of her resentment to the villainess,
she automatically assumes that Mal will become an exact carbon copy of her mom. But that’s not the only thing that puts
Queen Leah in the Grey Area. In the third movie, she had high expectations
of Audrey becoming the next Queen of Auradon, until Mal and Ben get engaged. For that, Queen Leah becomes disappointed
in her for failing to uphold the family name. However, this was forgotten when she showed
concern for Audrey when she falls under the sleep spell. Afterwards, she learns to let go of the past
and apologizes to Mal for her attitude towards her. Then rounding up the Grey characters is Audrey,
daughter of Aurora and Philip, and ex-girlfriend of Ben. Audrey is the popular girl at Auradon Prep
who is extremely vain and self-absorbed. She initially disapproved of the Core Four
coming to Auradon at their arrival. But the one person out of the four that she
disliked the most was Mal. Not only because of the history behind Aurora
and Maleficent, but because of Ben’s attraction to her. In Descendants 3, Audrey resents Mal over
her engagement to Ben, especially when Queen Leah had pushed her to become the next queen
of Auradon in order to live up the family name. As a result, Audrey attempts to destroy the
crown, only to be induced under an evil spell by Maleficent’s scepter. In an act of vengeance, she puts the citizens
of Auradon under a sleeping spell, turns some of them to stone, and hatches schemes to keep
the VKs from stopping her wrath. But what keeps Audrey from the Bad list is
her empathy. After being awakened from her enchanted sleep
by Hades, she apologizes for everything she did under the staff’s influence, especially
to Mal and Ben. Now onto the final category: the Bad and the
Evil. Starting off the bad list is Ursula, the sea
witch from The Little Mermaid. Ursula only makes a voiceover cameo in the
sequel. She unleashes one of her tentacles on the
pirate gang, yelling at them to be quiet and telling Uma that the dishes are not gonna
wash themselves. Uma tells Ben that her mom doesn’t care
for her unless she needs someone to work the night shift at her restaurant. Making it very clear that Ursula neglects
her own daughter to the point where she falsely believed that she was as villainous as her
mother. Next we have Mr. Deley, the science teacher
and another original Descendants character alongside Coach Jenkins. Mr. Deley attempts to humiliate Evie in her
first day of class by asking her to solve the atomic weight of silver. To his surprise, she gets the answer correct
while having her magic mirror in her hand. Then when Mr. Deley has the mirror in his
possession, thanks to Chad, he uses this as an excuse to scold Evie and threatens to expel
her. This shows how much he looked down on her
as a VK and would have done anything to get rid of her if he continued to abuse his authority. Bad move, teach. Below Mr. Deley is The Evil Queen, stepmother
of Snow White and mother of Evie. For 20 years of imprisonment on the Isle of
the Lost, she has taught her daughter to cook, clean, sew, and do make-up. Despite not being as invested as Maleficent
in their plan, she uses Evie to go with the rest of the VKs and steal Fairy Godmother’s
wand. Also, not only does she give Evie the magic
mirror to find the wand but her own vanity influences her to find a prince, hoping that
she will get married as well. For a long time, this made Evie think that
she is only worthy of being a pretty face. Although this is not the worst thing a parent
can do to their kid, it is not the best thing either. Then we have Jafar, former ruler of Agrabah
from Aladdin. While being imprisoned on the Isle of the
Lost for as long as everyone else, Jafar has been making a living as a shopkeeper. To keep his store stocked, he orders his own
son to steal items from residents. He also doesn’t take things seriously when
the situation calls for it. When he laughs at Cruella de Vil for being
dissed by Carlos on video chat, the mockery leads the two into arguing with the Evil Queen
and Maleficent in front of their kids. This shows his inconsideration to Jay’s
feelings, as he was embarrassed by their argument just like his friends. Now here is Cruella de Vil, the wealthy heiress
from 101 Dalmatians. In Descendants, Cruella de Vil is as cruel,
mean and sarcastic as she was towards the dalmatians. As Maleficent sorts out the plan to use the
kids to steal the wand, Cruella is reluctant about it at first because she will miss Carlos. But not for the reasons you would think. She would only miss having him shine her shoes
and do other chores for her. Then while web chatting, she notices Carlos’s
new dog, Dude, and comments that he would make great ear muffs. Which makes it clear that she wouldn’t have
let Carlos keep Dude if they were back on the Isle. She would only continue to put her own needs
before Carlos like she had throughout his whole life. The one Auradon kid who deserves a spot in
the Bad list is Chad, son of Cinderella and Prince Charming. Chad is a player on Auradon’s Prep’s tourney
team and the Swords and Shields team. Unlike his parents, he has been known to be
an arrogant and spoiled jerk who uses his charm and looks to get whatever he wants. For example, he manipulates Evie’s romantic
feelings for him to get her to do his homework for him. He also snitches on her to Mr. Deley for cheating
in class and gets her mirror confiscated as a result. Then he belittles the VKs on Family Day and
manipulates the AKs to turn on them. Which is a total dick move if it wasn’t
already obvious. Although he acts more decently towards the
VKs in the other movies, he gets jealous of Jay when he is selected as captain of Swords
and Shields. He also makes misogynistic comments toward
Lonnie when she attempts to earn a spot in the team. Only for him to be displeased when she ends
up becoming the new team captain. In addition to that, we would like to add
that there have been times where Chad acts like a coward. For example, he pushes Audrey out of the way
to hug Doug in fear when Maleficent arrives to claim Fairy Godmother’s wand. Then in Descendants 3, Audrey manipulated
him to the point where he had no choice but to follow her commands without even trying
to stick up for himself. Karma hurts, doesn’t it Chad? While this is no surprise to anyone, Maleficent
is the most evil. Not for being the most notorious villain in
Disney history, which is a given, but for the way she treats Mal as a mother. She constantly pushed her to be evil like
her ever since she was a kid. She also berates her daughter for choosing
to give the wand back to Fairy Godmother after vowing to be good from here on out. Due to her plan backfiring, she continues
to put down Mal for falling in love and calls her weak for it. Going as far as crashing Ben’s coronation
to put a frozen spell on the citizens of Auradon and attempting to hurt the VKs by using her
powers as a dragon. All in an attempt to take back her power as
mistress of evil. Who do you think are the most good and evil
characters of Descendants? Let us know in the comment section below. Don’t forget to hit that notification bell
