Discovery in Egypt Changes Everything..They Had Ancient Machines!

[Music] when the Wright brothers lifted off in their experimental aircraft in December 1903 naked he Hawk North Carolina it was not only the culmination of a lifelong dream for them but also a triumph for Humanity as a whole from ancient times civilizations from all over the globe had been telling and retelling myths of powered flight a formally earthbound humans conquering the air and perhaps even going into space but could some of these myths have had some basis in reality some researchers have speculated that certain ancient writings and unusual artifacts could point to a much earlier genesis for flight than the generally accepted date and indeed a few of these stories and objects from the distant past do seem to present the alluring possibility that the ancients were far more technologically advanced than anyone gives them credit for ancient Egypt some of the most intriguing evidence that the ancients were familiar with the principles behind powered heavier-than-air flight comes from the temple of seti in Abydos Egypt when the structure was discovered in 1848 archaeologists noticed a bizarre series of hieroglyphs on a ceiling in one part of the temple the carvings appeared for all the world to show at least three very modern-looking machines including a helicopter a Zeppelin and some type of craft that resembled a spaceship or a submarine photographs of these extraordinary symbols began to circulate and though at first it was believed that the photos were fakes further research demonstrated that this was not the case the carvings were genuine and Egyptologists were baffled the best explanation they could come up with was that the strange symbols were actually conglomerations of several different symbols that had been carved over one another at various times this was known to be fairly standard practice in ancient Egypt whereby hieroglyphs would be partially rubbed off and overwritten producing what is known as a palimpsest indeed this scene to be a more plausible explanation than the three thousand-year-old flight technology comparable to our own but the palimpsest theory was dealt something of a blow when an arab newspaper published photographs of what appeared to be very similar symbols carved into a wall at another temple in karnak if these photos are genuine then it would seem that the ancient flight hypothesis gains another point in its favor likewise in Egypt the discovery of the so-called Saqqara bird or Sakura glider from 200 BC gives proponents of airborne ancients even more ammunition those skeptics have dismissed the artifacts are simply depicting a bird it should be noted that the model does indeed have a bird-like face and beak but defenders of its status as an airplane argue that other aspects of its construction are less animalistic a more mechanistic for example the tail could be said to suggest a rudder rather more than a bird's tail and the slight downward sweep of the wings gives the appearance of a modern-day glider ancient Indian of reminisce some have also alluded to the fact that the Vedic texts of ancient India some of which are thought to be up to three and a half thousand years old describe what are essentially flying machines called Vimanas these contraptions resembled flying palaces or chariots some of which were pulled by horses or goats through the air but others of which were equipped with engines in fact the word Vimanas started out as referring to the palaces of the gods and gradually came to refer to flying palaces as well the modern word has morphed again to refer to any type of flying object or machine beam honors were supposedly used by the deities to get around and in some cases were said to be able to traverse great distances even going underwater and travelling to other planets in like fashion some of the more technical descriptions of the Vimanas purportedly drawn from a text known as the villa mica Shastra are thought to be bogus as this document was not written in the same era as the other Vedic texts but was indeed penned in 1952 by a man claiming to have translated it from a text written in 1918 though references to Vimanas are indeed sprinkled throughout the authenticated ancient Vedic texts many of the descriptions of their methods of propulsion for example the mercury vortex engine and the metals of which they're constructed are taken from this one possibly hoaxed document ancient Greece the ancient Greeks were also no strangers to the tales of the possibility of manned flight one of their better known myths that of Daedalus and Icarus Chronicle down to father-son pair built wings out of chicken feathers and wax that allowed them to fly though Icarus paid for his folly of flying too high crashing to earth after the heat from the Sun melted the wax from his wings but it wasn't only this myth that has given some researchers grist for the middle of ancient flight theories famed philosophers Socrates who lived from 470 to 399 BC was quoted in Plato's Phaedo as saying to begin with the earth when seen from above is said to look like those bowls that are covered with 12 pieces of leather it is divided into patches of various colors of which the colors which we see here may be regarded two samples such as painters use to modern ears that sounds very much like someone describing our home planet from far above it's either from a plane or perhaps even from orbit the Greeks were the forefathers of this modern scientific method so is it possible that Socrates and others might have had some knowledge whether hypothetical or actual of powered flight long before it suppose a discovery in the 20th century it seems far-fetched to be sure and various experts have pointed out that a similar description of the earth could be given by someone who for example was surveying the landscape from atop a very high mountain and not necessarily flying through the air the quote is admittedly rather vague no matter how eerily evocative it seems to our 21st century sensibilities the new world as the centuries passed it seemed that the new world was also not immune from hopes of man flight some researchers for example claimed that the renowned Nazca lines in South America were actually designed as runways either for ancient aircraft built by the local people or for extraterrestrial crafts the geoglyphs carved in the desert sand in southern Peru at some point between 500 BC and 500 AD cover an area of approximately 20 square miles and are only truly appreciated from above though many of the figures clearly represent animals such as spiders birds fish lizards dogs and monkeys their overall purpose is unknown and the fact that a majority of the glyphs are nothing but straight lines has suggested to some observers that the carvings may be caused ways or runways for flying machines adding to this speculation is the fact that of these straight lines many are situated on the top of hills or cliffs as though they were used to launch gliders or alternatively for early aeroplanes or spacecraft coming in for a landing not only that but a few of the glyphs are also suspiciously mechanical in nature resembling modern windmills or pinwheels for example which would seem to strengthen the case that the technology of the time may have been more advanced than first thought though there has never been any evidence found for extraterrestrial visitation in the area it has been shown that the Nazca civilizations easily could have carved the lines themselves using very simple tools a group of modern people using similar technology as there's a fashion similar glyphs in only a few hours since there's little question then that the Nazca people themselves likely made the lines what exactly were they useful most scholars at this stage believed that the figures were ceremonial rather than the arising that the straight lines were causeways that led to various places of worship or perhaps at some astronomical significance pointing towards various celestial bodies at important times of the year much like Stonehenge a further speculate that the animal and human glyphs was simply carved so large because they were intended for the gods to observe and note that the figures did not necessarily have to be seen from the sky to be fully appreciated as they can also be seen sufficiently well from surrounding hilltops they also point to the supposedly windmill looking designs in the sand and claim that they're simply depictions of stylized flowers and not mechanical objects at all though some experts have argued that flight was absolutely necessary to construct the intricate figures most would only go as far as to postulate a crude hot-air balloon rather than a more advanced modern style aircraft the Nazca lines though aren't the only new world artifacts that have encouraged suppositions about ancient flight technology the famed thousand-year-old artifacts unearthed in parts of modern-day Central and South America known as the Tolima or Quinn buyer aeroplanes appear to be depictions of fanciful aircraft fashioned out of gold complete with features that resemble rudders ailerons and other strikingly mechanical looking parts further in more recent times some interested parties have actually built gliders based around the designs of these specific artifacts to try to demonstrate their aerodynamic properties on a large number of these up sized versions of the figures could actually fly to varying degrees though in all cases the scaled up models needed to be partially modified for maximum flight efficiency the artifacts are striking without a doubt though it should be pointed out that the objects that most closely suggest modern aeroplanes only comprise a relatively small number of the similar artifacts discovered many of the other golden trinkets are clearly supposed to be representations of stylized animals such as frogs bats lizards alligators cats and bird using this logic it would seem that the airplanes were likely intended to be animals as well though which animals they are supposed to be is not readily apparent some suggestions that have been bandied about include catfish rays flying fish or some type of insect albeit highly modified from the forms that creatures manifest in nature evidence for early flight though it is indeed possible that someone somewhere over the centuries was able to successfully construct and fly a heavier-than-air machine especially given the number of widespread nature of myths and artifacts depicting human flight so far there has been no solid evidence that the technology existed prior to the flight of the Wright brothers in the 20th century though the above mentioned examples are certainly intriguing and bear further study mankind has dreamed of defying gravity and taking to the air since the very earliest times and while it remains to be seen if our ancient ancestors did somehow managed to master flight technology thousands of years before it was thought possible it's still a fascinating thought experiment to consider and a testament to the ingenuity of the human
