when you participate in giving you are participating in the very nature of god that is an amazing thought that we can participate in the divine nature in fact in second peter chapter number one it says that we partake of that divine nature in god's character and god's nature and god's attributes and therefore when you give you are participating in that nature of god the bible says god so loved the world that he did what he gave right he gave his one and only son he didn't even withhold jesus from us how much more in in response of a grateful heart should we give to god that which he asks of us in an obedient heart in a loving heart in a faithful heart believing that god's gonna take care of our deeds you will never lack when it comes to the things of god if you will follow his will his way god will take care of your financial needs he'll take care of your family he'll put shoes on your kid's feet he'll put food on the table the bible says never have i seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread you're not going to be out there wandering and wondering about how god's going to do what he needs to do to take care of your needs no god will take care of you he'll lead you he'll guide you he'll give you the stewardship principles that you need to succeed in life god is good and he's faithful to his people and so tonight let's bring me that heart that says god i know i could use this in a million other places but you know what god you asked for it therefore i'm gonna give it and bring it with that grateful heart and watch as god blesses your life tonight if you're amen amen couple quick announcements before you get into the word of the lord tonight first of all is that any ladies know what's going on starting this friday going into saturday my goodness we have the gathering of the saints the women rock uh are hosting and so it's gonna be a wonderful time ladies i want to mention this if you need a shuttle ride to the gathering the saints registration closes uh tomorrow september 9th at noon so make sure that either tonight or tomorrow morning get a call in i was talking to paul bennett who oversees the transportation department and he was saying hey we want to go pick up ladies we're ready for it and uh so if that's you and you need a ride you're in the area you know san bernardino highland east thailand some area like that uh we've got the the the areas that we can go to so call it church offices and we would love to pick you up for the gathering of the saints um also team boys do have a conference at the gathering called men of valor so ladies if you got a teenage boy or maybe some of the men you're volunteering during the conference you like to bring your teen boy to hang out with some other teen boys and then learn how to become a man of valor that's a great way to do that with the youth it is 15 for that so um that's uh something that you can sign them up for um and just like we said with the women's conference you know for for these team boys if you say hey i really can't afford it then whatever you can do do that you know what i mean he said well i can't do anything well then go to the table say i can't do anything and they'll work with you all right but uh but maybe there's some of you guys that say i'd love to sponsor a lady i'd love to sponsor teen boy and you can put down 30 bucks get one ticket for yourself one ticket for someone else and just be a blessing that way also on that note man we do need volunteers for the gathering uh visit the info hub for more information so you can uh put an application if you want to do that like full blown that sort of thing say hey i can show up move some tables and chairs all that go go to the info hub and they can find out more information about that just going to be wonderful and i just want to just let you know from my heart okay ladies our desire is that all of you guys would be able to get a hold of this we know that there are some that you know maybe because of work schedules and things like that you just couldn't get it off but here's what i say go and pray go and pray and ask god hey god would you open the door for me to get here you know would you change the work schedule would you have my boss call me and tell me you know what i can't get away from this you need to go to the church for some reason you know and just just open the door and believe god to get here i want to encourage you guys to call your mama call your sister call your auntie call whoever it is that you need to call it the lady in your life and get them here because i believe that god wants to do something amazing god wants to impart god wants to bless and so part of that is getting in the house and being a part of what it is value these things you know um it's with great prayer great uh concern great care that uh pastor jessica and the team have been putting this thing together it's all in house this year they they knew that they didn't want to do some massive you know undertaking that sort of a thing just after kova they that didn't seem like wisdom but they did feel the urgency from the spirit of god to gather the ladies to just encourage them to pastor jess here i just want to extend an invitation to you i believe heaven is calling us out he's asking us to gather he's asking us to get together it was in the middle of the summer i was in a worship service and i heard the spirit of god say to me i need you to have a conference for the girls i need you to gather them together and so it's not exactly what we're used to with our conferences but it is a gathering of all of us girls and we are going to do the best we can with what we have but you know all that really matters is that jesus christ is calling us he wants to be with you he wants to be with me he wants to heal us he wants to equip us he wants to fill us he wants to show us his word and his will and bring his glory in our lives and so today and tonight i want you to really pray about this i want you to set aside time and carve it out to be with god get time off work if you have to invite as many girls as you can you need to get those kids watched and you need to make sure that you can get here because you don't want to miss out on your encounter with god and so he is reaching out to you he has so much for you and i believe god wants to do some miracles in this house and i believe god is moving on this earth and even though the world is falling apart god knew it all would happen and he's going to fill up his saints he's going to equip us to go out into the world and be the gospel of the lord jesus christ walking on earth so girls let's get filled up with the kingdom so we can go out and do what god has asked us to do i'll see you there i love you shall we father we come before you today in jesus name lord today we want to first of all give thanks for the word of god lord today we thank you for the precious gift that it is lord today we receive it with meekness knowing lord that it has the power to save to deliver and to rescue the soul father today we also thank you for the precious holy spirit whom you promised and who has come he came lord two thousand years ago on the on the day of pentecost and he has made his residence within our hearts and his promise to us is that he would teach us and he would lead us and he would guide us he would guard us he revealed the things to us that we need to know and remind us of those things lord so that we do not forget we thank you for the holy spirit lord today we also want to thank you for the fivefold ministry gift lord the bible says that jesus led captivity captive and he gave gifts unto men pastors teachers prophets apostles evangelists lord for the equipping of the saints lord today we are thankful for these positions and the gifts that they are to our lives father we also thank you for the anointing to preach and to teach the word of god and lord today we want to also thank you for the name of jesus the name that is above every other name that name that has been given to we your people the church of the lord jesus christ we give you the praise the honor and the glory in jesus mighty name and everybody in agreement said amen well i think the lord wants to say something tonight as he does every night and i don't you know i don't talk to the worship team about what songs to play but here they are singing about you know there is power in the name of jesus right how wonderful and you know nothing can stand against it and tonight the title of the message is discovering the authority in jesus name discovering the authority in jesus name and today through the word of god and with the help of the holy spirit i want to paint a picture for you of the authority that is in that name you know i think sometimes as christians we go through life and our use of that name is really if i could say this way is a little bit weak because because sometimes the way that we treat the name is we we don't treat it any greater any better than like we would like a book end at the end of our prayer you know what i mean right heavenly father thank you for this food blessed to my body in jesus name amen and we move on right and that's our extent of the use of the name of jesus sure we we sing about it in songs as we did tonight we don't mean any disrespect we love the name of jesus we honor the name of jesus but our use of that name sometimes falls way short of what god intended for it to be in our lives and tonight i believe that if if if the penny will drop today if if your heart can get a picture it can get a revelation of the authority of the name of jesus if today it will dawn upon you the magnificence of that name it will absolutely revolutionize your life your prayer life your your relationship with the father and the results that come to pass in your life and so with no further ado tonight if you brought your bibles i want to begin in hebrews chapter one verse number one i feel like i have been going over this verse quite a lot lately but that's all right today i really want to get to verse number four you say pastor joe why are we doing one two and three because you just sometimes you just can't leave it out you know what i mean it just all goes together you gotta put it all in there and and really though i believe that it helps set up this passage of scripture but if you will make that mental note that we that we really want to focus on verse number four uh tonight hebrews chapter one as i get there myself verse number one it says god who at various times and in various ways spoken time past to the fathers by the prophets has in these last days spoken to us by his son amen whom he has appointed heir of all things through whom also he made the worlds who being the brightness of his glory and the express image of his person and upholding all things by the word of his power when he had by himself purged our sins sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high oh hasn't it been good already verse number four here we go having become so much better than the angels as he has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they wow in hebrews chapter 1 we find god beginning to make us aware of the fact that this name of jesus it is an excellent name i'm reminded of the of the psalmist he said how excellent is your name in all the earth oh lord right that that word excellence tonight it means to be distinguished when you look at the word excellent in hebrews chapter 1 verse number 4 the word excellent means to be distinguished it means to be set aside i like this one because this one fits in my lingo tonight it is a cut above the rest tonight hebrews chapter 1 verse number 4 is trying to communicate to you and to me that this name of jesus it is an excellent name this name of jesus is a name that is set apart this name is a name that is a cut far above the rest and we need to take note think today of think today of the names that you ascribe greatness to for just a moment think today of the names that you look up to you know as as a boy one of my heroes was michael jordan i just love the way michael played the game when you brought up michael it it it invoked it in me an emotion of excitement right think of the names that you can think of today that have evoked different emotions some names you know evoke emotions of excitement some names evoke emotions of you know awe and and wonder some names even evoke emotions of fear some but this name of jesus it is a cut above all the rest this name of jesus holds significance magnificence and really it should get a hold of our attention it's a more excellent name i also want to point out about this passage of scripture that the bible says that jesus inherited this name or he obtained this name rather through inheritance that is that it is a god-given name it is a god-assigned name it is a god ascribed name a god attributed name think of that for just a moment right when you think of an inheritance this is something that you know a child for example receives from their parents right sometimes before they die sometimes after they die but it's something that the parents have laid up for the children do you follow me today and so jesus has obtained this name through inheritance in other words it was a god appointed a god assigned and a god attributed name now that holds significance also because you know when you look at society today and you look at you know for example in contrast men's evaluation and their ability to assign and to ascribe and to attribute greatness excellence significance notoriety to a name i think that we have all experienced over time right the flaw in human evaluation and the human ability to assign greatness to a name sometimes we assign greatness to things that we have no business assigning greatness to come on somebody sometimes we call good evil and evil good and great and when it's really awful and awful what is really great you know i in fact i i thought of this example and i hope today that you hear my point you don't get caught up in the politics of it okay and so i'm looking for some spiritual people in the house tonight who can see beyond the politics who don't get caught up with the republican and democrat and party thing and you can just focus on the point recently there was a politician who was awarded an emmy award now i don't know about you but when you award a politician an emmy award it's just a little unorthodox i think that's a nice way to put it how about that unorthodox all right maybe you could argue maybe maybe maybe a politician could be deserving of an orth of an emmy award but it wasn't you know not soon after he got this award it was revoked and it was stripped because of the scandal that took place in his tenure while he was in office right we we ascribed and we attributed and we assigned you know this award to a person who really wasn't deserving of the war do you follow me today how about now listen today i am all for honoring you know giving honor where honor is due i'm all for celebrating and applauding you know hard work and achievement and this and these kinds of things but come on after a while if you look at the way men behave we've got the emmys and we've got the grammys and we got the all-stars and we got the hall of fame and we got the this and we got the that and on and on we go and after a while it just gets a little bit sickening am i right but when god assigns greatness and god assigns excellence and god assigns significance it really is significant it really is magnificent it really holds weight tonight and i'm getting a little help myself i got just a couple verses in fact let me just do one first peter chapter two verse number four this is not a verse that talks about the name but it is a verse that shows us the principle of of men's inability to evaluate evaluate and properly ascribe greatness it says it says that we are to come to jesus as to a living stone first peter chapter two verse number four coming to him as as to a living stone watch this rejected indeed by men but chosen by god and precious look at that humanity came in contact with the lord jesus christ and they evaluated that he was to be rejected but god's evaluation was that this man named jesus he is chosen and he is precious in fact the stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone tonight do you see in the verse the disparagement of men's evaluation and their inability to assign greatness properly romans chapter 2 28 and 29 it says again the same the same idea same principle for he is for he is not a jew who is one outwardly nor is circumcision that which is our in the flesh but he is a jew who is one inwardly and circumcision is that of the heart in the spirit not in the letter watch this part whose praise is not from men but from god see you can put a facade on on the outside and the whole time god see what's going on on the inside and you can gain the praises and the the attributes you know of men and the rejection of god ah but when the outside and the inside match when they are in congruence all of a sudden you get god's attention and god gives you the praise that you deserve because god's evaluation system is perfect and god's ability to attribute greatness is perfect and what did god do to the name of jesus he ascribed honor and power and glory and dominion both now and forever amen it is a god assigned name we go on to re reread in verse number four that that this jesus that he is greater than the angels because of this name think for just a moment i'm sure many of you know enough about scripture to think of sometimes throughout scripture where we see angels getting involved in in the human story at crucial points throughout the human story in order to execute the will of god think for just a moment you know lot and his family were rescued from sodom by angels think for just a moment how the angels participated in delivering god's commands to moses before moses delivered them to the children of israel jump over the new testament we find in luke that there's this there's this priest by the name of zacharias and he's met by the angel gabriel and the angel gabriel says to zacharias i have come from the presence of the lord and i've come to tell you that your wife who's beyond the age of childbearing she's going to have a child and you need to name him john the baptist and then he says and because you haven't believed what i've said you're going to be mute until that baby's born so that your words can't interfere with what god wants to do right the angel gabriel his message his his was so weighty that it caused consequence in zechariah's life do you follow me today we see angels all throughout scripture and if an angel shows up on the scene man it's it's important it's it's weighty it's meaningful ah but the name of jesus is even more excellent than if you were to be visited by the angel gabriel with a message from god he has in these last days chosen to speak to us through his son and thank god for that name today i know not only was his name god given jesus achieved the name it was god-given that is to say again god's evaluation system is perfect and so he is he is his ability to ascribe honor and greatness and power is perfect but he didn't just assign greatness to the name of jesus just because he felt like it or just because god you know wanted to show nepotism tonight or he had favoritism jesus god assigned the name to jesus because jesus had some achievements in which he accomplished that caused god to assign the name are you following me today you know when you go to get inducted into the hall of fame you got to do something to get there baby right you can't you can't just get inducted into the hall of fame because you're cute because you're nice and because the people who do the voting like you you've got to do something people who get inducted into the hall of fame right they have achieved some things they've done they've done some things that other people would not do they've done some things that other people could not do and as a result now they have been inducted into the hall of fame and the same is true with jesus because of what he did what he accomplished god has given him this most excellent name turn with me to philippians chapter 2 we're gonna begin reading with verse number six philippians chapter two verse number six and here in philippians the bible is going to begin to describe jesus's achievements philippians chapter 2 verse number 6. it says this of jesus jesus being in the form of god did not consider it robbery to be equal with god but made himself of no reputation taking the form of a bond servant and coming in the likeness of men and being found in appearance as a man he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death even the death of the cross therefore god therefore god because of what jesus did therefore god also highly exalted him and has given him the name which is above every name it was jesus's accomplishments that moved god to give him the name that is above every name this name of excellence can we talk for just a moment about some of jesus's achievements tonight because i think again seeing these things helps helps us to begin to put the proper weight the proper attention and the proper understanding to the name of jesus jesus's achievements for example were he displayed the ultimate act of humility the bible says here he being in the form of god and not considering it robbery to be equal with god he made himself of no reputation and he came all the way from heaven down and he took on human flesh think of it for just a moment we are talking about the creator of the heavens and the earth came all the he set aside his reputation he set aside his godly attributes he set aside the peace the the you know the wonder the the awesomeness of heaven and he came and he was born in a manger wrapped in swallowing clothes and as as an innocent and vulnerable baby boy that's incredible what condescension the lord jesus christ showed when he came all the way from heaven down now some people they look at me and they're like [Music] okay okay pastor joe because again sometimes we think we you know we're just so cute and we're just so nice and we're just so wonderful how could god resist coming all the way down here for us the bible paints a very different picture it says that we were sinners in fact we were enemies of god and i love what the book of romans says romans says that god displays his own love in that while we were still sinners christ died for the ungodly think of the lowliness and the humility that the lord showed you know sometimes we go outside and listen i'm just gonna be honest sometimes you know you see somebody like like a homeless person walking the streets i know we come to the rock church and world outreach center and we're all about the poor and the loss but come on let's be honest sometimes you drive by you think man i'm glad i'm not there right i'm like i didn't make the decisions they made and sometimes we look down on people who are less fortunate than we are right and yet god he doesn't have that attitude god's attitude was that he was going to set aside he's going to set aside all of his privileges and he's going to come all the way and put himself in a position where he was born as a man and took on human flesh and the bible goes further he didn't just come from heaven down and was born as a man but the bible says that that jesus he obeyed god even to the point of death that's one of th that's the other that's the other achievement that the bible talks about here that that jesus obeyed god to the point of death you know some of us we won't obey god unless we see a benefit in obeying god but jesus obeyed god now don't get me wrong the bible says right the bible says that godliness is profitable for the life that now is and the one that is to come let me tell you something today there is great reward in serving the lord there is great reward in obeying god but sometimes it's going to cost you and jesus was okay fulfilling the will of god for his life even though it cost him his life think of the contrast we were unwilling to not eat of the one tree in the garden you could we could have ate from the thousands of trees that were in the garden just don't touch this one and we couldn't oh my god god is trying to cramp my style and yet jesus obeyed to the point of death oh by the way it just wasn't any old death it was the death on the cross that is a criminal's death by by the way by today's standards death on the cross is one of the still one of the worst ways that you can die not just one of the worst ways you can die death on the cross was a shame you were publicly jesus was publicly executed as a criminal you know what else the bible says jesus says nobody takes my life i lay it down so in case today you think that you he could have called down a legion of angels and he could have stopped the whole thing and said never mind i don't i don't really want to i'm not going to do this he said listen i'm too big i'm too strong i have to lay the thing down i just want you to be aware of just how willing how committed jesus was to obeying god and to loving you he showed the ultimate act of humility he obeyed god to the point of death death on the cross how about this achievement this is a good one right he completely handled sin in romans chapter 4 verse number 25 says he was delivered up because of our offenses and he was raised because of our justification listen the work of salvation has been fully wrought it is a done deal it is finished come on somebody are you thankful tonight [Applause] jesus didn't just deal with the sin issue jesus dealt with the sickness issue matthew 8 17 himself took my infirmities and bore my sicknesses isaiah 53 and by his stripes i am healed he dealt with the sin issue he dealt with the sickness issue ooh and i like this one he dealt with the devil issue come on somebody he faced the devil toe to toe he whooped him up one side and back down the other himself disarmed principalities and powers and led them in an open spectacle triumphing over them in it jesus is this jesus is a man of accomplishment and the bible says and therefore god has also highly exalted him and given him this name that is above every name the philippians 2 continues on and it begins to describe and define for us what what excellence really means remember we said this is an excellent name we said it's a it's a name that's distinguished we said it's a name that's a cut above the rest it is set apart well those are all nice fancy adjectives that describe greatness but what does that really mean philippians 2 goes on to tell us in fact let me just tell you before we read it so you know when you read it right the name of jesus it is distinguished in authority how is it how is it distinguished why is it excellent how is it excellent it is distinguished and it is an excellent in that it is a name of supreme authority philippians chapter two let's look at verse number nine and we're gonna read 9 10 and 11 it says therefore god also has highly exalted him and given him the name which is above every name that at the name of jesus every knee should bow of those in heaven and of those on earth and of those under the earth and that every tongue should confess that jesus christ is lord to the glory of god the father did you see it did you catch it this is a name it is distinguished because it holds supreme authority in heaven on earth and under the earth to the place that at that name every knee in heaven on earth and under the earth would bow its knee to the place that at that name every tongue in heaven on earth and under the earth shall confess that jesus christ is lord to the glory of god the father this name is distinguished in that it is a name today of supreme authority and it holds authority in heaven and on earth and under the earth every entity in other words must yield and must submit to the authority of that name that's what it means to bow the knee that's what it means to confess jesus as lord it means that those entities in heaven on earth and under the earth have yielded and submitted to the authority of that name a name of all authority now today we could close up shop we can leave here and rejoice and be glad and yeah the name of jesus right right what a wonderful name it is what a wonderful and it not mean a whole lot in your life but thank god the message isn't over because there's one more point that you've got to get tonight this name of supreme authority has been given to you and to me the church for its use and for the exercise of that authority here on the earth did you hear what i just said not only look not only has this name been was was this name god given right not only that was this name jesus achieved not only does this name have supreme authority in heaven on earth and under the earth but this name has been given to you and to me the church for its use and for the exercise of that authority the exercise of the authority therein turn with me now to ephesians chapter one as you turn there we find paul the apostle praying for the church at ephesus and in verse number 16 he begins to share with the ephesians church under the inspiration of the holy spirit what he was praying for them and so for time's sake i'm going to paraphrase some of this he he says to the ephesians i'm going to quote some of it he says to the ephesians church he says i prayed for you and i asked god that he would give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him that the eyes of your understanding would be enlightened so he's praying for them to awake to and to become aware of some things right and then in verses what let me see here in verse in verse number 18 and 19 he lists three different things we're going to skip the first two and we're just going to jump to the third one so if you go with me to verse number 19. look at me look with me at verse number 19 he prayed that the eyes of their understanding would be enlightened verse number 19 to what is the exceeding greatness of god's power watch this toward us who believe this power are you paying attention this power it is in accordance with notice what it says according to i want you to become aware of this mighty power of god that is toward you and this mighty power of god it is in accordance with watch this the working of his mighty power which he worked in christ when he raised him from the dead let me just stop right there i didn't plan on do this how many of you have experienced the power of god raising you from death to life today how many of you can say that there has been a change in me and i have experienced the resurrection working power of the lord well he doesn't stop there which he worked in christ when he raised him from the dead remember this power is to us word which he worked in christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in in the heavenly places here we go verse 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion underline this next part and every name that is named not only in this age but also in that which is to come let me paraphrase paul prayed for the ephesian church that they become aware of the power of god that was toward them this power that was in accordance with the name that is above every other name what's your point pastor joe the name was given to the church is it any wonder then why we see the early church using that name in acts chapter three acts chapter three i i know we're on a little bit of a journey tonight don't worry i got my eye on the time you're gonna get out of here right on time somebody say amen but you need to pay attention in this moment because in acts chapter 3 we find peter and john headed into the temple walking up the steps leading to the temple to the gate beautiful in fact i've had the privilege in 2019 just before the coronavirus hit i was in israel and i stood on those steps and they go walking up the steps and there's this beggar and he's begging for alms right and peter looks at the beggar and he says hey give your attention to me okay and uh in acts chapter three we pick up the story in verse number six and it says then peter said silver and gold i do not have but what i do have i give to you watch this in the name of jesus christ of nazareth rise up and walk i don't have silver and cold but i do got a name and this name is the name which is above every name and at that knee even sickness has to bow and confess and so he says rise and walk verse number seven and he took him by the right hand and lifted him up and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength so that he leaping up stood and walked and entered the temple with them walking leaping and praising god and all the people saw him walking and praising god skip with me now to verse number 12. verse number 12. so when peter saw it he responded to the people men of israel why do you marvel at this or why why look so intently at us as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk as if by our own power and godliness we had made this man walk verse number 16 now and his name and his name and his name through you got to say it a few times just so the penny will drop it'll get and his name his name through faith in his name has made this man strong whom who you see and know yes the faith which comes through him has given this perfect soundness in the presence of you all the early church exercised and used the name of jesus to run sickness out of sick bodies and to usher in healing to those who needed it i wonder how many of us today put up with headaches and we put up with sickness and we put up with disease we put up with ailment when all the while you have access and you have the tool of the name of jesus and at the name of jesus diabetes has to go ailments have to be healed cancer has to go at the name of jesus every knee must bow every tongue i don't care what your issue is there is a this this name is far above [Applause] in acts chapter 16 we find paul now first it was peter and john now we find paul and paul has received the macedonian call and he's gone to the place of philippi and they're a woman by the name of lydia she's been saved and and she's just so in love with jesus she invites paul in into the house and says hey stay here while you do your ministry and so each day they get up and they share the gospel and they go to prayer well there's this little girl this the slave girl who the bible says is possessed with the spirit of of divination in fact pastor richard didn't you get your masters in divination i mean oh no no you got your masters in theology my bad man my bad inside joke sorry i'm just jealous that's what it is i'm sorry madness she's she's possessed with a spirit of divination and so we pick up the story here acts chapter 16 verse number 16. it says now it now happened as we went to prayer that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us who brought her masters much profit by fortune telling this girl followed paul and us and cried out saying these men are the servants of the most high god who proclaimed to us the way of salvation and this she did for many for many days but paul greatly annoyed didn't say he was moved with compassion pity i just feel bad for this slave girl i just hope that she comes to know jesus maybe he was annoyed aren't you thankful that the bible doesn't hide the motivations that you're not alone if you've been annoyed amen the point is that even with the wrong motivation the name of jesus still carried weight and it says and he turned and said to the spirit i command you in the name of jesus christ to come out of her and he came out that very hour the early church cast out devils with the name of jesus listen today this was a situation where paul exercised the devil this is an exorcism right right right but how many of us put up with just the simple nonsense of the devil day in and day out while he opposes us while he frustrates us while he gets on the backs of our spouses and on our children and he's just running amok and we sit there and we put up with it today if you will use the name of jesus you can run the devil out of your mind out of your home off of the back of your family your spouse your children your boss come on somebody i think there's some devil there there's some butt kicking that needs to happen some devil butt kicking in the house and you need to start to kick the devil out your home because at that name the bible says demons tremble at that name they will bow their knee at that name they are bound cast out and they're rendered powerless and ineffective at the name finally today john chapter 14 verse number 14 how about the words of jesus if you haven't been convinced yet already how about the words of jesus in john chapter 14 verse number 14 he says if you ask anything in my name i will do it you know what's so interesting too about this verse if you ask in some contexts that word ask can also be the word demand let's just try for fun to read it this way if you demand anything in my name i will do it we are not demanding of god but we are demanding of sickness and disease we are demanding of the devil we are demanding of the situation mountain be moved in jesus name in some context this word ask can also be the word demand and finally today in matthew chapter 18 i said finally once this is finally twice sorry matthew 18 19 and 20. again i say to you that if you if if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask it will be done for them by my father in heaven okay now catch this next part for where two or three are gathered together in my name i am there in the midst you know what i see in this passage jesus and the name are synonymous jesus and the name are synonymous in the name of jesus dwells all the fullness of god so that when you call on the name jesus shows up on the scene because jesus and his name are synonymous and the name has been given to the church for its use the name of jesus has been given to the church to exercise the authority therein tonight if you're sick in your body stand your feet we're going to exercise the name of jesus those of you who are seated if you want to just stretch your hands toward those who are standing do something a little different tonight i'm going to lead you in a prayer to exercise the name of jesus okay you know what if i can chris if you could come out and play keys a little bit here [Music] repeat after me say heavenly father i thank you for the name of jesus [Music] i thank you that is a powerful name it is a god assigned name and a name that you've given to me to use just as your people have done all the way from the book of acts today in the name of jesus i command sickness and disease and infirmity and ailment and pain to leave in jesus name in the name that is above every other name sickness and disease you go ailment you go pain hugo in jesus name amen amen all right uh i don't i don't know how to do this one i certainly don't want to embarrass anybody how about this how about uh how about you bow your heads and close your eyes everybody buy your heads and close your eyes okay no looking around if you're in the building today and you feel like there's demonic activity taking place in your life maybe it's in your mind maybe it's in your home i want you to stand up to your feet [Music] and i want you to repeat after me say heavenly father i thank you for the power and the authority in the name of jesus and right now i bind every demonic force every demonic activity in my life and i cast it out devil i speak to you in the name of jesus you have no place you have no right i serve you notice get out in jesus name amen be free tonight amen amen amen you may be seated pastor dan do you have anything on your heart that we need to pray for i'm sorry i'm putting you on the spot i just need a moment myself pastor jess get the conference she said we're gonna be using the name of jesus a lot at the conference amen amen okay all right hey before we close today i want to i just make sure that everybody here is right with god uh listen i don't know where you're at and i don't know where you're headed the bible says that at the end of your life whether that's sooner or later by the way you know a lot of times we go through life and especially if you're a young guy like me sometimes you feel like you know you're gonna live forever and now i'm approaching 40 and i can't go out on the soccer field quite like i did and when i get hurt it takes me a little while longer to heal up and i'm starting to think uh oh got a few grays in my beard and lord what is happening but the reality is is that life is fragile you can be here today and gone tomorrow and and listen i'm sorry that it's that way i you know maybe i shouldn't apologize you know but you understand that life is fragile you get in a car accident your heart can stop god forbid you know you get taken out by a virus i hate to even use that example i'm not trying to promote fear tonight but if you die tonight god forbid where would you end up would it be heaven or would it be hell because when you cease breathing your last the bible says that you don't cease to exist you step out of your body your spirit and your soul just like taking off a jacket or slipping your hand out of a glove this body of yours it's just a suit it's an earth suit and when you breathe your last your spiritual eyes open and you step right out of your body now the scary thing is you're on the right you're either going to find yourself going up or you're going to find yourself going down up is better where you at with god today and if you die tonight where would you end up would it be in heaven or would it be in hell today i i again don't say these things because trying to be rude crude trying to look down on anybody tonight we just love you enough in the rock at the rock to speak the truth and you need to take a real evaluation of where you're at with god would you be headed for heaven or would you find yourself in a place called hell let's talk about your answer because most people in america will tell you yeah i'm going to heaven and if you ask them why they'll say things like well i feel like i'm going i feel good about myself how foolish that you would trust a feeling with with your eternal with your eternal life you just leave it up to feeling well i feel good about it i think i'm gonna make it isn't day you cannot feel and you cannot think your way to heaven you won't find that anywhere in the scripture from genesis to revelation you can check it's not there and you could feel as good as you want to feel and still end up in a devil's hell you ask people in america why do you think that you're gonna make it they'll respond with something like well i'm a good person i mean i'm certainly no worse off than anybody else you've got a few issues but and then we'll start you know again with a faulty evaluation system comparing ourselves to others well i don't beat my wife i don't have a felony or maybe i have a felony but i don't have as many as that guy we do this comparison thing and we think somehow because of our good works is impossible i'm not even there i have no misdemeanors i never even got a speeding ticket you're a liar all right first of all by the way have you ever lied in life [Music] you lie you fry that's what the bible says right in other words we've all sinned we've all fallen short of the glory of god is my point you cannot be good enough to make it to heaven nor again nowhere in scripture will you find that because you're a good person because you help little old ladies across the street because you let people over on the freeway because you haven't done as many bad things as you know the people that we consider the worst of our society but that means that you're going to heaven you cannot be good enough to go to heaven we have all sinned myself included me and you alike we've all sinned we've all fallen short of the glory of god we are all in the same boat and the boat is sinking and tonight i'm trying to make you aware of your need for the savior right by some of you by your own admission you're a liar how many times you have to lie to be a liar [Music] you know what else the scripture says it says you know if you've even looked at somebody to lust after them you've committed adultery in your heart fornication in your heart well now we're not gonna have people raise their hands if you've ever had a lustful thought that's all of us right by our own admission we're liars we're adulterers we're fornicators if you've ever stolen something you're a thief right you know what else the scripture says in god's eyes if you hate somebody you're a murderer again my point is not to beat up on anybody my point is to show you just how far off you are from really achieving salvation on your own it is an impossible feat today you need jesus christ and that's why god sent jesus because if you could have got there on your own he wouldn't had to send jesus but because god knew you couldn't get there on your own he sent jesus and jesus took his perfect sinless spotless innocent life and he gave his life in your place and in mind it'd be similar to if you know if for example a a judge in a courtroom the gavel comes down and he pronounces guilty over a life but then he himself gets up from the judge's bench takes off his robe and then he goes and he stands next to the guilty party and says now i'm gonna pay i'm gonna pay for your for your crime obviously we don't do that but that's what god did because we couldn't pay for it on our own okay so you don't get to heaven because you think that you're gonna make it you're not gonna get to heaven because you think that you're a good person and today you're not gonna make it because you're a religious person because you come to church you carry a bible you know some bible verses you you pray you've prayed here and there you've you know you've been baptized or christian we we all know how to be religious don't we but religiosity does not get you and i into heaven say all right pastor joe how do i get to heaven if i if if i'm not getting there because i think i'm getting there if i can't be good enough to get there in fact if i can't be religious enough to get there then how do i get there i'm glad you asked jesus told a man by the name of nicodemus nicodemus by the way in john chapter 3 was the pastor of his day and just to be clear nicodemus was pointing people to the true god and you would have thought in fact nicodemus he had more verses memorized than probably our entire pastoral staff combined if we're honest about it and you would have thought jesus would have come up to him and said nicodemus good job man you're doing a great job keep leading people in the things of god and one day when you die you're going to end up in heaven i just can't wait instead jesus looks at nicodemus and he says nicodemus you must be born again you want to get to heaven you must be born again there's another passage jesus says hey listen i am the way the truth and the life nobody comes to the father except by me in other words this is my heaven you've got to get there my way and aren't you thankful that in john chapter 3 jesus tells us how he says you must be born again and what does born again mean because that's not a term that we use in today's day and age really right and if you've watched any kind of movies from hollywood they make born again people look like radical fanatical weirdos swinging off the chandeliers talking in weird languages and acting a fool if we're honest but born again from the beginning of the bible to the end it means that you've given god all of your heart and you've given god all of your life that's what born again means that you've surrendered to the lordship of jesus lord means boss you've given god all of your heart you've given god all of your life today there's no other way to make it that is the only way and something interesting happens if i could just take a few more moments to explain to you this idea of being born again when you surrender your heart in your life god comes down on the inside and by the person of the holy spirit and makes you a brand new person you know we watch tv shows right where they like these reality shows and they make people's faces over right it's like a facial makeover they they make over their car they make over their home they they take all you know all these different arenas of life and they take what you've got and they make it over right it's a makeover there's only one person who can give you a person makeover and his name is jesus but it doesn't happen until you surrender your heart and life because he's a gentleman he's not going to break his way into your heart in your life and make you do what he wants you to do it is of your free will he gave you a free will because god doesn't want robots and if you choose health that's your choice [Music] but today i'm pleading with you would you take your free will would you surrender it to god would you invite him to come in to be your lord and savior and make you a brand new person it's called being born again okay today if that's you you need to give god all your heart all your life i'm gonna count to three hit my hand on this mic when i do you slip your hand up i'll see it and you can put it right back down what you're saying by the raising of your hand is this pastor joe that's me i want to give jesus day all my heart all my life i want to be born again as you described i'll see your hand and you can put it right back down right let's be abundantly clear tonight what you're saying by the raising of your hand is hey pastor joe that's me i want to give jesus all my heart i want to give jesus all my life i want to be headed for heaven denying my presence in hell i know what some of you are thinking you're thinking man if i get my hand up that's like kind of embarrassing hey listen better to be embarrassed for a moment than to spend an eternity in hell hello you end up in hell you're gonna raise anything and everything as we've said here at the rock for years you would raise your underwear on a flagpole to get out and you're not getting out it's a done deal there's no way out there's no way for you to make up for what you did on earth god is not changing his mind it's eternity separated from god by the way there's no party going on down there [Music] i'll spare you tonight the descriptions in this in the bible of hell it is absolutely awful so come on quit letting the devil play you for a fool let's get right with jesus today you need to give god all your heart all of your life you slip your hand up on the count of three come on even those of you who have prayed a prayer before to give jesus all your heart all your life and you know today that you're not following through with that commitment jesus said listen when i come back i better find you hot or cold but if i find you lukewarm i'm going to vomit you from my mouth see again just a prayer like like we read today he's not a jew who's won outwardly in other words he's not somebody who's who's right with god who seems to be so outwardly but one but the one who is inwardly and if in your life right behind closed doors in your life outside of the church where people don't see you you're doing your own thing i want to love you enough to tell you the truth you're not going to make it today is your day of salvation so come on if you fit into any of those categories on three you slip your hand up i'll see you can put it right back down are you ready here we go ready one all together now two three let me see your hands slip them about one two three four thank you god bless you can put your hands down four wise people five wise people tonight making a decision for jesus five wise people six wise people seven eight eight wise people didn't your heads close your eyes and from your heart to the lord repeat after me say heavenly father i come before you tonight and i thank you that by your spirit you have drawn me here and i stand at the front of an altar because today i believe that jesus christ died on a cross to forgive me of my sins and to bring me back to you today lord jesus i give you my heart and i give you my life take complete control in fact come into my heart and into my life to be my lord and my savior i receive you holy spirit make me brand new forgive me of my sins wash me clean i thank you now i am headed for heaven denying hell i've got a future and i've got a hope because now i'm yours and you are mine thank you jesus in jesus name amen a congratulations welcome to the family of god welcome to the family
