melon born on January 14th 1846 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania was the son of Judge Thomas melon the founder of melon bank and patriarch of the influential melon family growing up in the East Liberty neighborhood of Pittsburgh's East End James was immersed in a world of privilege and opportunity he attended Jefferson College in Cannonsburg Pennsylvania where he joined the Theta Delta Chi Fraternity and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1863 James's early adulthood was marked by health challenges prompting his father to send him to Milwaukee Wisconsin to work as a clerk in the law offices of finches Lind and Miller his work later took him to lenworth can where he met Rachel huy larer his future wife their courtship blossomed and they married on June 3rd 1867 once his health improved James's father requested his return to Pittsburgh to join the family business a pivotal moment in his life nestled within the Lush surroundings of patka Florida stands a historic clabbered sold to Oscar Enis a cousin of the blands who resided there with his family until 1962 do Robert Watson acquired the property in 1967 and embarked on extensive restoration efforts only to face a tragic setback in August 1969 during Renovations a fire broke out in an upstairs section of the house when workers accidentally ignited paint with a blowtorch despite these challenges the Rockwell Mansion Arlington is a historic Federal style Mansion situated in matches Mississippi with roots tracing back to the early 19th century according to tradition the house was built by John Hampton white originally from New Jersey as a residence for his wife Jane Serge at White historians estimate that construction took place between 1819 and 1820 although the exact design plans are not documented the architecture is widely attributed to Levi weeks who also designed Auburn in natches Arlington embodies the federal style introduced at Auburn but with a unique interpretation marking it as the second Grand columned Mansion in natches the main house is an imposing two-story red brick structure featuring a partial basement and adorned with marble elements throughout including the front porch window Howie Mansion is a significant historic property situated in Howie in the Hills Florida this Grand 7500 ft residence featuring 20 rooms epitomizes the Mediterranean Revival style it was constructed by William J ho the Visionary founder of Howie and the hills born on January 19th 1876 in Odin Illinois William John Hoy began his career in sales at the young age of 16 selling insurance by 1900 he was involved in real estate development for a railroad company in Oklahoma his entrepreneurial Spirit led him to establish the Howie Motorcar Company in Kansas City Missouri in 1907 setting up a Manu ufacturing plant at 1707 nor 7 Street in the former Y and Dot carriage and wagons Works building the Howie Motorcar Company produced High wheelers which were Carriage likee Motor Vehicles branded under the name Howie these vehicles were equipped with a two-cylinder gas engine capable of 10 horsepower driving the rear axle via two chains and they were steered using a lever priced at $600 directly from the factory these vehicles were a significant innovation of their time in 1924 William Hoy and his wife Mary Grace Hastings Hoy finalized the plans for their longlasting residence in ho and the hills by the end of 1925 the house was completed and they moved into their new home the Mansion quickly became a hub of social activity hosting an array of distinguished guests such as Lord Bathurst Kansas Governor Alfred Landon Mr and Mrs Frank Phillips of Phillips petroleum and former President Calvin kulage the construction of the Howie Mansion was completed in 1927 costing an impressive 250,000 equivalent to 3.2 million today when adjusted for inflation the Mansion was designed by Katherine Kil Bud a trailblazing woman architect from New York the completion of the 20 room 7500t Mansion was celebrated with Grandeur featuring a performance by the entire New York Civic Opera Company this event attracted a crowd of 15,000 people with many arriving in 4,000 automobiles to
