I'll is Freitag I am an employee with Yale education I'm a curriculum specialist we're gonna get straight into our rotations this week I was working explicitly with just Morehead and April Harris we were filming them to capture some of the amazing things that are happening in their classrooms with skills block and their differentiation now we're going to transition to our stations all right give yourselves a yes yes I go ahead and move when they're planning for differentiation they use of assessment conversion chart to pinpoint what skill that child or that group of students needs to work on and that needs that additional support by looking at the students data based off of this information and using my scoring chart I'm able to take this and go straight to my conversion chart and see exactly where she needs to start in her learning for her rotations once they identify that cycle they can pick whatever activity they want to support that with in writing within word work within fluency but as long as it lines up with that specific cycle that was picked in the assessment conversion chart so looking at this data that I have some of my students I might have to pull back in a cycle where others get to jump ahead and they get to move further to where they need to be finally find your pictures and walk to your stations once I decide what microphase the students are in from the benchmark assessments then I will get the different activities April Harris and just Moorhead do a fantastic job of showing examples of differentiation technique in their classrooms we're going to use our different strategies in this Harris's class she uses colored clip the colored Clips coordinate with the colored folders so students know which activities to pull from based on their micro phased group so what is something that we need to improve on with just Moorhead we see that she has colored folders and students all have the same task card but their activities are actually differentiated within those folders air is one of my students favorite stations they get to go freely around the room and do what they love which is reading I love to utilize the level reader here and this is where I get them reading on specific grade levels and I can really pinpoint a specific skill I want to work with them thank you in air with finding mystery words in a poem and we'll build into sentences and then those synthesis and mystery words are read throughout the decodable book and then you have the accountable comprehension check to prove that they are ready for their comprehension piece so what you guys are going to be doing is you're going to be playing your compound word game writing is a beautiful station because you can include grammar in this station it doesn't necessarily have to be just sentences this week I plan for my students based off of my State Standards one of the things that we need to master by the end of the year is compound words so I always love to try to incorporate some kind of game here you can also take some of your topics from your modules and you can incorporate it in this station my full alphabetic and my early consolidated groups they're just finding words within the time and they're writing them down to create the new words for my higher two groups they have to do the writing portion once you're finished with this I want you to notice on the bottom it says blue you're going to take your words and I want you to write this into a paragraph in kindergarten most of our writing time is spent on the letter formation not only is it all paper and pencil we also have different games to provide the letter formation as well before they actually put it on paper we have been working in our fluency station together on reviewing our neighbors we see that just Moorhead's classroom is predominantly made of above grade level students so how is she meeting the students needs we're using skills block materials she's adding additional rigor to those rotations so it's meeting the needs of those learners and pushing them along Henry what do you think you could work on what about it your expression could be a little bit better so this week what I did with my middle consolidated group so they're reading readers feet are influencing and they do a pure evaluation on that but I want to add more rigor to that group so to do that I'm taking it a step further and now I'm having my students do self evaluations you were good at following along while other people were reading that's an excellent thing so I want them to have that reflective mindset and I want them to start thinking about how are they doing as a reader if this is w what letter do you handsome eyes in miss Harris's classroom we might have seen some students that needed additional support what's great about that is she's able to really make sure that those students are going to be able to get to where they need to be first ladder ready go what's the word job another way that we see differentiation in its powerful tool within skills block is inves Harris's class in her teacher led group she uses spelling to complement reading what's wonderful about that as she uses that as a kindergarten teacher with some of her students that are working more at a first grade level what is that word hah let's clap and snap it out together so then what's great too is we see in Miss Moorhead's classroom that she is also using that same instructional practice because that's what those specific students need in that classroom what do you notice about that oh it is a short oh the magic of this is seeing when you give those beginning middle end of your assessments and you see a child move up to three phases it's a wonderful thing to see because you know that they have mastered all of these skills what do our keywords help us do unlock the sound so I love just to see my students move throughout the year was awesome the repetition of the skills block the small group instruction the teacher lay it really showed growth they humble me on how brave they harm the incredible things that they do and I just seen their confidence levels get stronger throughout the year I think that's one of the greatest things I've seen so far [Music]
