Differences between an Old Growth Forest and a Secondgrowth Forest

so I'm currently standing on the border of an old cut block and we can see we've got an ancient Western Red Sea here that was spared and this gorgeous healthy stretch of old ghost forests here that's absolutely beautiful you know plenty of gaps in the canopy a rich multi-layered understory complex vegetation topography on the ground here all sorts of biodiversity it's absolutely stunning but then if we turn this way we've got this second growth forest here that's comprised of very tightly packed skinny trees with all sorts of lateral fuels that pose a fire hazard and a very tightly packed canopy so there's no sunlight coming through so there's nothing growing here not a lot about diversity nothing really enjoys living here so this kind of forest resembles those old kind of grim brother fairy tale for us you know a spooky Dark Forest that we're actually inspired by the second growth forest throughout Europe at the time so not exactly a place you'd like to call home but you know witches love them but then if you turn over here we've got this gorgeous healthy old growth forest ecosystem just a really great example of the differences in ecological Health between a mature complex forest ecosystem and the second growth force that we've created on over 90 of the continent Wild
