Diesel Motorhome Cold Start after Sitting for Years

[Music] you okay so let's see what we got here we got a 1996 what is this scenic cruise by Gulf Stream something by Gulf Stream it's got a got a huge Cummins in the back here I don't know what the displacement is I know very little about motorhomes but the guy ran the camera is gonna know a little boat more than me about it and from what I've been told this thing just hadn't been running a long time they got to get it out of here so I'm gonna do what I can to get the thing running one of the first things I did was power up the chassis batteries used a little Fusion Hybrid out there to jump the chassis batteries lots of electrical power in that thing and so you can see we do have some fuel that's good there's a voltage gauge here that looks good look at that man almost 14 so what we're gonna try to do before we try to start that big thing we're gonna try to get the little looks like a little bitty three cylinder Cummins diesel which is in the front of the motor home it's funny cuz you open the hood and you see a little bitty three cylinder Cummings in there like wow those Cummins pack-a-punch well we're gonna try to fire that thing up first and get it running so we can charge up the batteries which looks like they haven't been touched in years they probably need to be replaced anyway but take a look at this whole this whole generator you're a little preheat button there oh oh oh well you have some power and we're gonna have to warm that thing up there oh yeah must be like a little fuel pump runner or something yeah and it's cold - it's like 17 degrees this morning look like a little cumin stud more juice you have to let it warm up to bed while we bring your truck around here and use the second set of jumper cables so cup you just enjoy it as long as we put it in parallel all right let's do that stick your nose right there where mine is yeah move that heavy cord out of the way all right now we'll get some real power on this thing little bitty comings in the front medium-sized Cummins their massive Cummins in here yeah you're good [Music] pull the straps and everything else that's in there out there with it that strap done while ago producer red on red there you go is positive there you go bring that voltage up men yes The Pianist jumper cables you can find on planet Earth but I think inhabit two of them here parallel like this should be alright so let's go give oh it sounds better already how long you supposed to hold the preheat in 30 seconds maximum uh-oh we got some fuel leakin that that's actually a good thing that means we got it means we got fuel give it some time to warm up wonder where that will be leaking fuel at Cameron here but I can't see that ah yeah a typical or rubber hose rubber hose has been sitting us all he got in this cold well it's not her not typically to make it not run so we couldn't get a jump started just too much draw from these ice-cold batteries so we're over here at batteries plus and I'm just gonna go get some new batteries here for the flashlights to nothing they're both dead yeah you don't need straps so we're gonna try with the we're gonna try the chassis batteries further obviously because we want to we want to get the thing mobile and then we'll worry about the house batteries later because hopefully once we get the big boy is it to fire up the little generator in front but we're gonna see if we can get the big boy fired up first all right I have no clue what's gonna happen but we're pretty sure these are the chassis batteries that we just replaced here now too bad only a hundred bucks a piece I expected to pay more than that well hopefully it's enough to turn that big diesel over in there over and fire it up but only time will tell let's see what happens so if we did this right should be chassis use yep that looks nice and strong open up the window here so we can get a good shot of the exhaust if and when it starts but I got a I got a screen in the way oh there we go the screen opens that alright okay what do you think you gonna start I think it's gonna go yeah alright well here goes nothing you roll them back there I was probably just gonna need some cokes and then Oh oh boy that's going all right I cranked it again yes we gotta some got some fog back there oh yeah man we should have done this a long time ago yeah all right moving out yeah pretty hey let's see is this thing having fast idle and I think it's low oh she sounds so beautiful yeah we we got some fog back there she's smoking a little and that's steam I thought that was smoke that's just steam she's burning clean there we go now it's finally off yep first thing now the second tanks off so in parking brakes there we go ain't no warning lights man oh we shooting something music [Music] man that's weak I wanted air horns maybe pull enough pressure should work yeah yeah I bet you're right oh man that thing sounds sweet dude yeah ah there in naming any smoke about 17 degrees it's awesome give her a love rap yeah she sounds really healthy mean get it to move head drive yeah go for it she's coming up there you go yeah you need me to move are you good oh sweet Oh that's sinking into the asphalt there that's how long has things been here so unfortunately we never got the little generator here running the fuel leak was just too much for it as you saw earlier in the video there was fuel leakin and upon further investigation we found that it looked like a rodent had actually chewed through the rubber fuel line so we couldn't get this one running unfortunately I really wanted to see the sink fire up and run but maybe another time for now we got the chassis engine running so it's drivable we can get it to a shop and get the rest of it all taken care of anyways I hope you guys enjoyed this video give it a thumbs up if you did and we'll see you next time [Music] you
