color="#CCCCCC"> a caldron of</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> crazy</font> far-out ideas the Germans were<font color="#CCCCCC"> building</font> rockets and circular tanks the Japanese were just flying<font color="#E5E5E5"> their planes into</font> battleships and the<font color="#E5E5E5"> British were</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">actually gonna make an aircraft carrier</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">out</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> of an iceberg</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> being in the middle</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> of</font> the bloodiest war in<font color="#CCCCCC"> history can kind of</font> make you think<font color="#CCCCCC"> outside the box by the</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">time the United</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> States entered</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> the war</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">in 1942 German u-boats were sinking</font> hundreds of ships a month<font color="#E5E5E5"> thousands of</font> seamen and<font color="#CCCCCC"> sailors were</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> plunging to</font> their deaths they were looking for any kind<font color="#CCCCCC"> of way</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> to avoid this kind of</font> detection<font color="#E5E5E5"> this it's believed is what the</font> Philadelphia Experiment was all about <font color="#E5E5E5">they were trying to find a way for</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> ships</font> to<font color="#E5E5E5"> be able</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> to</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> sort of jump</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> across space</font> to get<font color="#E5E5E5"> out of</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> trouble and</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> if that sounds</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">like teleporting yeah that's that</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> that's</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">exactly what it was</font> and according to believers of the story they were<font color="#E5E5E5"> a success</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> a</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> nightmarish</font> success the date was October<font color="#E5E5E5"> 28 1943</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> the</font> place was the<font color="#CCCCCC"> Philadelphia Naval</font> Shipyard and the ship was a USS<font color="#CCCCCC"> eldridge</font> which is docked there with a small skeleton crew<font color="#E5E5E5"> on board nearby in the</font> shipyard was<font color="#CCCCCC"> a</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> cargo ship</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> the</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> SS</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> Andrew</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">Farriss a--the where many of the</font> witnesses<font color="#CCCCCC"> of</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> this event were standing</font> late in the afternoon between 505 and <font color="#CCCCCC">520 p.m. the Eldridge began to glow</font> witnesses described it as<font color="#CCCCCC"> blueish green</font> or just green it was<font color="#E5E5E5"> also notice that the Eldridge</font> became invisible<font color="#CCCCCC"> to radar and for about</font> a<font color="#E5E5E5"> minute there it began to dim</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> it was</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">becoming sort of translucent</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> at this</font> point one of<font color="#CCCCCC"> the sailors on the</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> Andrew</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">first that couldn't help himself and he</font> reached out<font color="#E5E5E5"> to touch the Eldridge and</font> when he did<font color="#E5E5E5"> he got hit with a massive</font> electric shock that threw him backwards <font color="#E5E5E5">and then in a flash of light the</font> Eldridge vanishes<font color="#E5E5E5"> one of the crew</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">members on the Eldridge opens his eyes</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">and looks back</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> at the dock</font> but everything<font color="#E5E5E5"> was different</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> in fact</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> it</font> wasn't the<font color="#E5E5E5"> Philadelphia dock at all he</font> recognized<font color="#E5E5E5"> it</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> as the Naval Shipyard in</font> Norfolk Virginia<font color="#CCCCCC"> which he'd been</font> stationed before the Eldridge has instantaneously<font color="#CCCCCC"> traveled a distance of</font> over 200 miles for the<font color="#E5E5E5"> next several</font> minutes<font color="#E5E5E5"> that Eldridge remains there in</font> Norfolk Virginia and then it disappears<font color="#E5E5E5"> in reappear</font> seconds later<font color="#E5E5E5"> back</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> in Philadelphia</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">completely unharmed this alone would</font> make<font color="#E5E5E5"> the story of the Philadelphia</font> Experiment one of the weirdest stories in military history but it's what happened to the crew where things get <font color="#E5E5E5">really</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> weird first of</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> all two crew</font> members just vanished<font color="#CCCCCC"> just</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> got lost in</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">the jump they were never seen</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> again</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">other crew members were reportedly fused</font> into<font color="#E5E5E5"> the metal and those who make</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> it off</font> the boat don't<font color="#E5E5E5"> fare much better</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> some of</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">them have</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> gone insane just immediately</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">others in the next coming</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> days</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> and weeks</font> go<font color="#E5E5E5"> into what they call a standing coma</font> they just kind of like freeze in<font color="#CCCCCC"> place</font> for minutes at a time<font color="#CCCCCC"> they called it</font> getting<font color="#E5E5E5"> caught in the flow or stuck</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> in</font> the<font color="#E5E5E5"> green some reports say that</font> survivors spontaneously burst into flames some of them just vanish without a trace one reportedly walked through a wall right in front<font color="#E5E5E5"> of his family</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> and</font> other crew members<font color="#E5E5E5"> and never was seen</font> again<font color="#CCCCCC"> these weird phenomena continued</font> long<font color="#CCCCCC"> after the experiment in fact part</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">of</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> the</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> mythology</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> around the Philadelphia</font> Experiment is a newspaper<font color="#CCCCCC"> article that</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">claimed in 1944 that a couple</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> of sailors</font> were involved in a barroom brawl and right in the<font color="#E5E5E5"> middle of</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> this brawl they</font> just sort of dissolved into thin<font color="#CCCCCC"> air</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">this</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> was apparently witnessed by several</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">people in the bar including a</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> couple of</font> hostesses who did an interview<font color="#E5E5E5"> for</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> this</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">newspaper but</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> it should be said</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> that</font> nobody<font color="#E5E5E5"> has ever</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> been</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> able to find</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">exactly what newspaper this came from</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">it's just sort of a clipping that's out</font> there<font color="#CCCCCC"> what is</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> remarkable about the</font> newspaper clipping however is<font color="#CCCCCC"> that it's</font> it's the only real piece<font color="#CCCCCC"> of evidence</font> that<font color="#CCCCCC"> corroborates any of these rumors</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">and stories about what</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> happened to the</font> Eldridge and its crew which<font color="#E5E5E5"> believers in</font> the story would say it's a<font color="#E5E5E5"> secret</font> military<font color="#CCCCCC"> project so duh</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> but this is</font> where the story remained for over<font color="#E5E5E5"> ten</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">years just</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> sort of relegated</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> the rumor</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">and conjecture until 1955</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> late in that</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">year</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> the</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> Office of Naval Research of the</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">onr received a package in the mail</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> it</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">was a manila envelope and written across</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">the front of</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> it said happy Easter and</font> inside the<font color="#CCCCCC"> envelope is a book</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> by UFO</font> researcher MK Jessup<font color="#E5E5E5"> titled the case for</font> the unidentified<font color="#CCCCCC"> flying</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> object and in</font> the margins of<font color="#E5E5E5"> the book are these weird</font> bizarre handwritten notes<font color="#E5E5E5"> that seem to</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">be like one side of a conversation</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> about</font> aliens and Einstein and it briefly mentions the Eldridge<font color="#E5E5E5"> the</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> onr reached</font> out to<font color="#E5E5E5"> Jessup who said that he didn't</font> send<font color="#E5E5E5"> the book or write those notes but</font> he<font color="#CCCCCC"> thinks</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> that he might know who did</font> because he'd been receiving<font color="#E5E5E5"> letters</font> somebody whose handwriting<font color="#E5E5E5"> matched that</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">of the notes in the book</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> now it needs</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> to</font> be<font color="#E5E5E5"> noted really quick that</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> Jessup</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> was no</font> slouch he had an interest in UFOs but<font color="#E5E5E5"> he</font> had a master's in astronomy and he stopped<font color="#CCCCCC"> just short of</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> his PhD in fact</font> many of<font color="#E5E5E5"> his friends and colleagues</font> called him<font color="#CCCCCC"> doctor out of respect and</font> while working at<font color="#E5E5E5"> the University of</font> Michigan he helped operate the Lamont Hussey<font color="#E5E5E5"> Observatory in South Africa which</font> at the time was the largest refracting telescope in<font color="#CCCCCC"> the southern hemisphere and</font> he and his team<font color="#E5E5E5"> actually discovered</font> thousands of double stars<font color="#CCCCCC"> anyway he was</font> brought in to talk<font color="#CCCCCC"> to the onr and he</font> provided<font color="#E5E5E5"> with them the letters that</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> he</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">had been receiving</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> from</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> this guy</font> the letters drop a lot<font color="#E5E5E5"> of the alien</font> stuff<font color="#E5E5E5"> and focuses a</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> lot more on</font> Einstein's theories but really doubled down on<font color="#E5E5E5"> the</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> Eldred story the author of</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">the letters was clearly just desperate</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">for somebody</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> to listen to him</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> any</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">thought</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> that maybe Jessup was</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">open-minded enough to do so and this is</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">probably because</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> it's the exact same guy</font> that<font color="#CCCCCC"> I mentioned earlier who reached out</font> and touched the elders and got hit with <font color="#E5E5E5">that electric shock it was a man who</font> went<font color="#CCCCCC"> by</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> the name</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> of Carlos Miguel</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> IND</font> Carlos claimed that Albert Einstein himself<font color="#E5E5E5"> witnessed the</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> Philadelphia</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">Experiment from another ship on the dot</font> called the USS<font color="#CCCCCC"> emic</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> and he saw Carlos</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">get shocked the way he did and he</font> brought him on board<font color="#CCCCCC"> for a little bit of</font> a debrief and that started<font color="#CCCCCC"> something of</font> a<font color="#E5E5E5"> friendship between the two and he</font> claimed<font color="#CCCCCC"> that</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> over the following weeks he</font> became a student of Einstein<font color="#CCCCCC"> and</font> Einstein taught him<font color="#E5E5E5"> all about</font> invisibility and starship propulsion<font color="#E5E5E5"> and</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">Einstein shared with him a theory</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> that</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">would allow travel at four and a</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> half</font> times the<font color="#E5E5E5"> speed of</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> light and what</font> happened to the Eldridge was the result of sending it down<font color="#E5E5E5"> a</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> faster-than-light</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">tunnel crazy accusations definitely</font> fascinating fascinating enough<font color="#CCCCCC"> that one</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">of the officers</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> in the case</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> captain</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">Sidney sure be actually republished</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">Jessup's book with those liner notes in</font> there<font color="#E5E5E5"> it was a small print run but it</font> was enough<font color="#CCCCCC"> to kick off a whole slew of</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">philadelphia experiment conspiracy</font> theories<font color="#CCCCCC"> that continued to this day</font> and all this really<font color="#E5E5E5"> came from the</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">testimony</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> of Carlos a</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> yen Dave he's sort</font> of the axis around which the whole Philadelphia Experiment revolves but there's a lot<font color="#E5E5E5"> of problems with a story</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">like a lot of problems for</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> starters ship</font> logs show that<font color="#CCCCCC"> the Eldridge wasn't in</font> Philadelphia in October of<font color="#E5E5E5"> 1943 and</font> neither was the the USS<font color="#E5E5E5"> Andrew</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> vs. in</font> fact<font color="#E5E5E5"> at no time were the two ships at</font> the same dock<font color="#E5E5E5"> at the same time and</font> neither was Einstein in Philadelphia at the<font color="#E5E5E5"> time that Carlos claimed he was many</font> of<font color="#CCCCCC"> the witnesses that</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> claimed</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> to have</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">been on the Eldridge were</font> later discredited<font color="#E5E5E5"> as attention seekers</font> and in fact many<font color="#E5E5E5"> of them</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> weren't even in</font> the<font color="#E5E5E5"> Navy so there's no way they would</font> have<font color="#E5E5E5"> been on</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> the ship</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> at all and then</font> there's<font color="#E5E5E5"> Carlos IND himself like how</font> credible is this guy<font color="#E5E5E5"> well for one thing</font> Carlos again<font color="#CCCCCC"> des is not his</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> real name so</font> we can just start<font color="#CCCCCC"> there</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> his real name is</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">Karl</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> Meredith</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> Allen and he served in the</font> Merchant<font color="#E5E5E5"> Marines from 1943</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> to 1950 to</font> his resume<font color="#E5E5E5"> was unremarkable</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> to say the</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">least and after he contacted</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> Jessup he</font> actually<font color="#E5E5E5"> kind of disappeared</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> for a while</font> they couldn't find him nobody knew his whereabouts<font color="#CCCCCC"> it was easier to hide from</font> the government back then he began to <font color="#CCCCCC">reappear in</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> the 1960s when that</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">republish</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> book with his notes and</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">letters</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> and</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> it started</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> kind of making</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">the rounds amongst paranormal groups in</font> fact at one<font color="#CCCCCC"> point there were several</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">different Carlos</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> a.m. days</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> running</font> around claiming<font color="#E5E5E5"> to be the real guy</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> and</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">throughout the 60s</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> and 70s he made</font> several appearances at conferences<font color="#E5E5E5"> and</font> whatnot<font color="#E5E5E5"> reiterating his story and his</font> story seemed to change over time at one point he claimed<font color="#E5E5E5"> that while he was</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">working with</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> Einsteins group he met this</font> scientist named Charles Proteus Steinmetz<font color="#CCCCCC"> who famously</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> had a hunchback</font> in a case of dwarfism<font color="#CCCCCC"> he also had a</font> minor<font color="#E5E5E5"> case of</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> death he died before Karl</font> was even born so<font color="#CCCCCC"> Karl was kind of crazy but he wasn't</font> interesting crazy in fact one<font color="#E5E5E5"> University professor that</font> sought him out<font color="#E5E5E5"> said that he did so</font> specifically because<font color="#E5E5E5"> it was merely</font> curiosity over encountering a genuine crackpot people say that about<font color="#CCCCCC"> me</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">someday</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> so is there any truth at all to</font> these stories<font color="#E5E5E5"> the Philadelphia</font> Experiment is mostly<font color="#E5E5E5"> considered a hoax</font> these days even professional paranormal <font color="#E5E5E5">researchers just consider it</font> misinformation<font color="#CCCCCC"> but there are still some</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">hardcore believers</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> out there</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> that</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">completely believe that something was</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">going on some</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> kind of secret military</font> thing was going<font color="#E5E5E5"> on at the Philadelphia</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">Naval Shipyard</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> in October 1943 and</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> the</font> thing is they're<font color="#E5E5E5"> kind of right yeah</font> thanks to declassified documents we now know that Philadelphia in<font color="#E5E5E5"> the 1940s</font> played home to some secret<font color="#E5E5E5"> military</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">experiments including</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> a fatal accident</font> where some people<font color="#CCCCCC"> died and these tests</font> were part of<font color="#E5E5E5"> the Manhattan</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> Project as a</font> refresher the Manhattan Project<font color="#CCCCCC"> was</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> a</font> secret project<font color="#E5E5E5"> designed to create the</font> atomic bomb the spine<font color="#E5E5E5"> its codename the</font> Manhattan Project actually took place mostly<font color="#E5E5E5"> in</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> Tennessee and</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">Iko but there were facilities all around</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">the country that</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> were refining uranium</font> specifically to power<font color="#CCCCCC"> nuclear-powered</font> subs<font color="#CCCCCC"> and one of those facilities was</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">located at you guessed it the</font> Philadelphia Naval Shipyard<font color="#CCCCCC"> construction</font> started in<font color="#E5E5E5"> 1943 and the plant went live</font> one<font color="#CCCCCC"> year later and on September</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> 2nd of</font> that year<font color="#CCCCCC"> yeah there was an</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> accident</font> some workers were asked<font color="#E5E5E5"> to clear a pipe</font> that was filled with steam and<font color="#E5E5E5"> uranium</font> hexafluoride<font color="#CCCCCC"> and</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> yeah things didn't</font> didn't go well an explosion ruptured the pipes showering the men with <font color="#CCCCCC">hydrochloric acid</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> two of them died on</font> the scene one in about<font color="#E5E5E5"> 15 minutes the</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">other one took</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> about an hour to pass</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">away a third man was</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> badly burned but he</font> did survive in total 14<font color="#CCCCCC"> different</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> people</font> were injured<font color="#E5E5E5"> in this explosion did Carl</font> Allen hear<font color="#E5E5E5"> about this accident</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> and get</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">it mixed up in his head with other</font> secret military<font color="#E5E5E5"> projects that he was</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">hearing</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> about it is possible they were</font> also<font color="#E5E5E5"> testing equipment that was supposed</font> to<font color="#E5E5E5"> help make ships invisible to magnetic</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">minds at the time</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> in fact a magician</font> named Joseph<font color="#CCCCCC"> Danar came in and</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> sort of</font> consulted the Navy on the principles of illusion<font color="#E5E5E5"> to help make the ships more</font> invisible<font color="#CCCCCC"> to the enemy</font> our brains<font color="#E5E5E5"> can do things like</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> that it</font> needs to<font color="#E5E5E5"> make</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> sense of the world and</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">sometimes it can pull disparate bits of</font> information<font color="#E5E5E5"> that</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> really have nothing to</font> do with<font color="#E5E5E5"> each other and</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> smush them</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> all</font> together into<font color="#E5E5E5"> something that never</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">actually</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> happened</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> you know there was a</font> bit of<font color="#E5E5E5"> a perfect storm around the</font> Philadelphia Experiment<font color="#E5E5E5"> actual secret</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">government programs</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> an accident where</font> people were killed and<font color="#E5E5E5"> injured a weird</font> newspaper clipping and
