hey got something new for you guys something that could be let's turn this one on actually something that could be really cool i mean a lot of tech that comes in here could be really cool but given what razer has already put out with audio meaning their software mixer that came with their razer siren v2 pro which was essentially like the wavelength software you had sub mixes you had multiple channels and everything but it was all software uh razer is releasing a hardware mixer that reminds me a lot of the go xlr mini but it's 20 22 now what are we putting in streaming mixers today maybe there's some new stuff we haven't had a lot of fader based audio interfaces so i'm kind of excited to see if they do a good job full disclosure they did send this to me they didn't pay me at all they're not seeing this video before i release it so it's not a sponsored video plus some i'm a little sketched out about oh let's turn this one on there we go now you can see this thing so beautiful top down today we're going to open this let's talk about some of the features then i'm going to plug a sure sm7b into it i'm going to set this up entirely and see what the experience is like see if it's easy to use see if it's a nightmare and then lastly we're going to plug the same sm7b into another audio interface let's go with the wave xlr it's kind of a staple in the streaming industry very high quality preamp relatively recent product we'll see if there's an audio quality difference between the two because i know a lot of you guys think that the microphone is the only thing that gives sound its quality but xlr audio interfaces like this contain the preamp and the converter which have just as big of an impact on the sound quality so we'll see if it's something worth noting or if it's if it sounds good and then we'll see uh what the product is like oh let's let's roll the intro before we get too far into this [Music] hey so you know how i've encouraged you numerous times to learn a new skill not only because it's a vital part of being a solid content creator but also it's just a great source of internal self-satisfaction well it turns out there is a perfect place to learn any skill you've ever wanted to learn before there is a massive online learning community called skillshare where you can learn exactly what you want exactly when you want to learn it because the classes are structured and easy to follow lessons like for example this class called animation for graphic designers how to animate a logo with willem kessling that not only starts with the basics like planning your animation but even takes you through all the software like illustrator and after effects he even talks about animating your typography if your logo has text in it if you've ever wanted to dip your toe in animation and maybe make something cool for your stream this is probably a great place to start and of course there's way more to learn on skillshare than just animating there are business classes design classes marketing classes even lifestyle classes so if you're ready to start learning that new skill you know that that one you've always said you wanted to learn but you've never actually done it do it click the link in the description below sign up oh also the first thousand people to use my custom link down below will get a free trial of a skillshare premium membership so now's your chance get going i gotta say a lot of streaming companies especially like razer included uh have really upped their packaging like i like this cloth thing around here i like the easy to open boxes you're not ripping anything it's nice looks like we have a couple cables here we have a very small aux cable we have another very small aux cable we have a usb a to usb type c so i assume that is to connect to both of your pcs because we'll we'll get into this but this device can connect to a dual pc system similar to a go xlr then they give you two small razor branded uh which i can only assume is a noise ground ground loop noise isolator just for your understanding of what this is lots of times when you use these uh analog cables to connect two different devices depending on how those two different devices are powered you can get a ground loop in there and you get that hum and that hiss and it just sounds terrible and it just takes a simple box like this to get rid of that that's everything in the box that is it clean unboxing experience it's a nice little carrying bag i mean i can't imagine you're going to use it after opening it but it does make for a nice experience oh this is i like this this is a very well built thing i love the matte black the faders have a ton of give to them just like the perfect amount of give i heard he put a dang fingerprint on this is clean it doesn't have any of that razor green i wonder if it does by default in the rgb when you light it up but it's just like matte black gloss black i assume this is like a plastic glossy plastic on the top and and some white accents and this looks nice so let's take a look at this so usb type c which is nice that plugs into your gaming pc for most users you got optical in if you're still using some previous gen consoles so it's nice that they put in that legacy port just in case you have a console that uses it i've actually used it for more than that i've i've plugged my guitar into there it's just nice to have another input so good on razer for still including that we got a line in and a line out that can connect to your streaming pc with both cables if you plan on using a two pc setup you got a phantom power button and you got an xlr input with a built-in preamp that's the whole thing oh i lied i lied sorry microphone if you're using a microphone that already has a preamb built-in like for example if you're using a usb microphone and you want to go out of the headphone jack directly into this device you're actually using the device's own preamp and so you plug it right into here and you can bypass that then you got your headphones right there i love the feel of faders i miss faders i just replaced my go xlr mini with the beacon system and the feature set is way higher i don't regret a thing but i do miss the faders okay a couple features about this even though it's the size actually let me grab the go xlr mini just so you can see the size difference between the two all right let's bring out a plethora of devices let's clean them all off first lots of dust in here lately here is the go xlr mini you can see it is basically like a a cleaner version of this it is a little bit smaller in its footprint it's a little bit thinner moving down it doesn't have like chunky bezels on it it's just a modern version of this classic device we have the wave xlr we have let's swap this out just again so you can see the difference here we have the avermedia nexus they don't have the full size go xlr on me but we can use the go xlr mini as scale here and this is probably the best comparison here and we have the exact same buttons in the exact same place mute mute mute swear button and then you have the mute button so literally an identical looking interface here but the big difference between the two of them and it doesn't look like it but this one actually has stuff that was in the full-size go xlr this one actually has voice effects built in now you control them with the software but then you activate them on the device how it's supposed to work and we'll double check when we set it all up uh depending on which fader you set to your voice you hold the mute button and that should activate whatever voice preset you have set there we'll see how long you have to hold it because i don't know how i feel about that like if you have to hold it for two whole seconds jumping back and forth between voice effects and non-voice effects like you're not gonna be able to meme like i hope it's either a short hold or you can switch it so that a tap switches you to voice effects and then a hold mutes it because you do like if you're trying to me you need to be able to switch to the voice effect quickly but let's plug this into a pc let's take a look at it by the way while i'm setting this up if you haven't seen the other video on the other razer device that was released today we posted that video today it's on the razer key light which is basically i don't wanna just shout out another company that they're copying but it's basically an elgato key light but with rgb built into it as well which is really cool so i'll link to that down below i'm gonna remind you again at the end of the video to go watch that video yeah so this doesn't show up in synapse um i'm assuming that there is software that hasn't been released just like the problems we had with the with the key lights i've checked everywhere they never sent me any software so i'm gonna have to finish this video tomorrow or just poke them again about the price and about the software and let's see if we can get it and we'll have to post this video day late because what are you guys doing all right see you tomorrow okay it's the next day we finally got the update to razer synapse so we can actually test this thing let's plug it in so you can see we have a couple tabs here at the top i probably need to map it in the sound setting first so i'm going to assume it works just like all the other ones all right so we have five tabs here we've customized mixer mic effects and lighting and under customize it looks like you're mapping out the mixer is that not in the mixer tab no so that shows you all of your inputs and outputs you change what the channels are under customize okay we got our mixer which we'll get into in a second but first we need to set up our mic this is where you choose which microphone and whether or not it needs phantom power condenser mic does need phantom power dynamic mic like the sm7b that we're going to use does not need phantom power all right let's start with the mic let's get this thing plugged in i forgot to grab the xlr cable one second we got our mic plugged in let's plug in our headphones one thing that might not bother you very much is probably good that you know this um the noise gate should not affect the actual gain meter here this should show even if it's being cut out in the output i should be able to meter my voice at least in the preamp stage noise gate comes after this this should not be affecting this but as long as you know it doesn't really matter i guess you've also got a simple version which again i feel like is too much i don't i don't think we're really going to use the noise gate i can't hear myself in here yet can we go back to mixer no effects no mic oh mic monitor there we go like this i still i'm not i'm not hearing my voice at all all the way up all the way up check check check check check check check oh i do hear it but it's really really really quiet what if we turn this up a little bit more i mean it looks like we're peeking now and i can i can barely hear it in the headphones is that the best we're gonna get i can't imagine that's a problem with the headphones we can hear the other stuff just fine i need anyway we can move on it's just probably good to know if you like hearing your own mic in your headphones you're not gonna hear it on this thing i wanna like give it everything like turn the noise gain all the way down no that didn't change anything and let's turn down the thresholds ratio should always be four to one that should be set standard and there's no way to really tell this is just like the go xlr the same problem with the go xlrs they don't give you any way to know where your threshold needs to sit like they do with the beacon mic where they actually tell you how much compression is actually happening based on where you set your threshold um and mikey cue you can either either have a 3-band eq if you want to do something simple or if you want to go crazy you can hit show more and you get what a 10 band eq which is nice and you also have presets looks like balanced is probably what you're gonna want to go for that's pretty standard for a general microphone to make it a little bit more a little bit more presence and then a little bit more crisp but okay that's the microphone um it looks like i'm practically peeking now that we added the compression and uh and i can hardly hear myself in my headphones all right let's go to the mixer this is a lot to take in our output mixer is all of our inputs microphone is going all the way up but it's only going up too you can change it between percentage and db it's only going up to nice 69 percent love to see that why isn't it going up to 100 it only goes up to 46.92 can i move it up this way nope that's the max it'll go up to so it'll only go up to the max of the gain we give it which again is not how that works gain is different than leveling in the mixer this should still be able to go up to 100 because it's a hundred percent of the level that of the gain level that we set again it's just a really weird choice but again once you have things set that's not really gonna make or break the actual user experience it's just weird choices um and then i assume this looks like it's your routing table but rather than have like a routing table they went for a different route where you see all of your outputs so we have your playback mix which i assume is in your headphones yeah so that's what you're hearing you're hearing the playback mix i can mute it so i don't hear it but i can also uncheck it so i don't hear it what's the difference between hitting this mute button and unchecking it they do the same thing this one's i guess just kind of more permanent than this one this one can be controlled with a button this one cannot and all of them you can change between db and percent so for example uh you have your playback mix let's say you want your chat to hear your music but you don't want to hear it yourself you can just uncheck music from your playback mix and then you're both hearing different things so that's how that works i mean to give them credit not every modern device has an actual routing table like for example the wave xlr doesn't have a built-in routing table it just has kind of mute buttons on different channels a lot of this is mimicking the go xlr mini functionality go to effects now this is the thing that's going to set it apart from the go xlr mini uh you are able to change a voice oh a voice changer there's a cartoon [Music] so cartoon brings it up high and it sounds like i'm peeking because i'm hearing a lot like crackling when i do that monster brings it really down low you got low pitch which is less rumbly than the monster but they're very similar i think i can't really hear it very well on my headphones uh and high pitch which is a little bit lower than cartoon all right got some voice effects there and if i go back to customize and i change toggle mute line in i change this to toggle voice changer now if i go to effects if i hold this mute button here okay that didn't change anything how about if i hold this now no that just muted my microphone how long did it have to hold it for okay that's not working did i do that right long press mic mute button is it this one is it this mic mute button oh it's this my button you hold it for two seconds that's a long hold again another complaint about the software don't expect to be able to jump back and forth with voice changers if like like something you're doing on the fly know that it's gonna take you a solid two seconds of holding that button down to turn on the voice changer not ideal and it kind of ruins the spontaneity of voice changers we got echo and reverb and i still is it is it peaking for you guys i'm hearing a crackle in my voice every once in a while i'm gonna stop talking about it because maybe it's just in my headphones we'll have to listen to the recording after this we got a chapel we got an arena we got a marble room small concert hall and then custom so we can make our own we can change the gain like how loud the echo is and the delay time meaning i'd assume that means how long between each echo so this changes the key of something going into the line in but it doesn't change your voice you only have a voice changer and echo and reverb adjust the pitch and tempo of any audio input on the line in port using the slider why would you want to change the key of a line in that's your streaming pc i don't understand these two i don't think anybody ever asked for these i don't know why these exist i don't know why anyone would want to change the key of the input of their streaming pc well it is what it is and then we have our lighting effect um can you change it to show like metering input meter okay i'm trying to get a good sense of the experience of this device i guess i'm just a little bit confused about what new thing this brings to the market this came out three years after the go xlr this device is going for 249 i think i mentioned earlier that i they didn't give me the price of this device i did email them and they did respond that this one is 249. how much can you get a go xlr mini for go xlr mini 217 the reason i look at that is because this is clearly like the razer version of the go xlr mini and they did add something new which is having microphone effects which is a voice changer that has three three presets and that's it and then adding echo and reverb but you can do custom other than that i mean can i just say like it is a lesser experience of the go xlr minute some of this stuff doesn't work properly i i can't monitor it's it got turned off again but it's still monitoring now okay i turned it on it didn't change but then i turned it off and it turned why did why did the switch turn off even though it was still monitoring i mean like considering the the fact that the effects are are so minimal and and don't really have a massive bearing on on the experience and like you can't change the voice changer quickly you only have four presets that you can choose from it feels like a lesser go xlr mini i mean let's do an audio test um the go xlr mini is plugged into a device in there that can't be unplugged at the moment but this it sounds very similar to the wave xlr so let's just real quick record some audio for each one this is the shure sm7b going into the razer audio mixer with default mic equalizer a flat eq set also make sure you listen to stream beats because it's the best copyright free music that you can use for your live streams and youtube videos totally free and safe to use over 15 genres and 1600 tracks links down in the description below this is the shure sm7b going directly into the wave xlr and recording in obs and uh yes by the way if you are wondering uh there are no other music services that are better than stream beats when it comes to your live streams just the way it is it's a fact objectively sorry other people i'm gonna take a listen to these real quick while i'm pulling up these videos i do want to say one more thing that i'm a little disappointed in with the razer one when they release the razer siren v2 pro their dynamic mic they released software with it that allowed four submixes it was very similar to the wavelink software that elgato made and the beacon software that just came out where you can have different mixes for your headphones and then the stream so they already developed that software and they didn't include it in here i thought this was going to be for sure i thought this was going to be the first hardware mixer with faders that has sub mixes in it i was kind of excited that would have been something to make this stand out and they didn't do it they already made it and they didn't put it in this instead they made this really confusing mixer okay let's take a listen after listening to them both back to back i think both actual audio systems sound fine it did feel lacking in terms of punchiness and maybe it's my subconscious it was any difference was pretty minimal i don't think anyone's going to notice the audio difference between the razer and the you know a wave xlr or or a go xlr mini i think the audio components are fine i didn't hear any serious humming on the floor i didn't hear any any of the stuff that i was hearing back in my headphones when i had the problem it seemed to just be in the headphones however that would drive me nuts while i was streaming if those pops and clicks were happening in my ears the entire time i was streaming i'm trying to think of a legitimate reason why someone would want to go with the razer audio mixer over the legacy of the go xlr mini and the only one i can think of is it's it's physical look it's a little bit smaller it looks cleaner it looks more modern but it has all the exact same i o it has all the exact same buttons and it's just not a great experience like in every other way other than the fact that it has some voice changers it's considerably worse it feels like razer's is trying to fill out and become a real player in the streaming market and so they don't have a mixer so they put out a mixer which is fine but it's been three years since the go xlr and you can't just put out a worse and more expensive go xlr three years after that device came out you need to put out something that actually contributes some kind of value to the market and i don't see any value compared to what's already out there but anyway that's just my opinion i'm interested to know what you think if you haven't seen the other video we posted yesterday by the way they also released on the same day they released a key light it's actually called the key light but it's an rgb key light which is actually kind of cool i'll link to it in the description down below i'll also put it on the screen you're probably actually looking at it somewhere on the screen right now click that if you haven't seen it if you want to go check out that light and uh anyway let me know what you think and hit the like button if you haven't yet and i'll see in the next video happy streaming
