hey everyone so since luffy began using advanced  conquerors hockey readers have been going   back and forth over just how close luffy is to  quote-unquote yonko level and with chapter 1026   suddenly it feels almost undeniable that  no what we were seeing before was not   a fluke luffy just came back even stronger and  more determined than before and he just did   something that is simply undeniably reserved  for yonko caliber pirates splitting the sky   i don't want to hear any revisionist history  here the fact is pretty much every single reader   prior to this chapter 1026 accepted the notion  that splitting the sky is a feat that signifies   a clash between two yonko we accepted this was  practically a symbolic image of two yonko fighting   a visual effect that only they produce note  i'm not trying to get into discussions of   whether or not other characters are capable  of producing this effect i'm just saying   we all universally accepted that oda clearly  liked to show the sky splitting as a unique symbol   of two pirates of the highest level clashing ever  since oda explained the concept of the yonko to us   and made us understand that these are  simply a different caliber of pirate   than any other in the world the effect of  having them split the sky almost felt like   a reinforcement of this notion that they are in  a league of their own essentially proof of their   status so no revisionist history right this is  how we all talked about the sky splitting before   so now when we see luffy splitting the sky  with kaido it does feel surreal and it honestly   understandably has people a little riled up  this is not like that earlier 1v1 with kaido   where it felt like an even back and forth but we  could at least downplay it at the end of the day   by the fact that kaido ultimately dispatched luffy  cleanly we could tell ourselves that obviously   luffy is not yet the same strength as a yonko like  kaido but this this moment this is a feat that we   have already accepted as symbolic of two yonko  facing off this is symbolic of two pirates being   in their own league above all other pirates in the  world this moment is both awe-inspiring exciting   and difficult to believe for many so let's  break it down why do we feel not yet ready   to unanimously accept that this is happening that  whether or not luffy can actually beat kaido why   are so many not yet ready to put luffy in the same  category of characters like shanks big mom akainu   and so on so before we get into it make sure to  subscribe for more one piece content every week   now i'm not here to tell you that look luffy is  like number 10 or number five or something in the   world okay i'm not going to get too nitty-gritty  into the power scaling i just want to break down   why luffy's growth this arc has been jarring  for many readers more jarring than any growth   luffy has experienced in any previous arc why some  skepticism over luffy's current feats may be fair   but also why it may be time to accept luffy at the  you know top tier level the biggest factor in all   this first is of course how fast luffy reached  this level i'm not talking about luffy's age or   anything here i'm talking more so the time it took  in the story because as one piece progresses we   get used to a certain growth rate right and in the  one arc the reality is that luffy has progressed   much much much faster than any previous arc  in fact in the wano arc alone luffy progressed   more than pretty much all the previous new world  chapters combined i mean really it's arguable that   luffy didn't really even get stronger during  the first couple hundred chapters between   fishman island and rosrosa since opponents like  hordy caesar and even xinjiao didn't really push   him to high difficulty fights doflamingo was the  first character to make luffy finally unveil gear   fourth so really it took till the end of dressrosa  for luffy to even have to show the full extent   of how much he had grown from the time skip now  following that whole cake island was the first arc   where we got to see luffy pushed to grow stronger  again and i think that this is where the sense   that you know luffy's growth in wano has been too  fast may be coming from for some people because   if you compare luffy's relative growth in whole  cake island to luffy's relative growth in wano   the difference is pretty crazy in whole cake  it took an extremely extremely long intense   grueling battle over dozens of chapters and 12  hours for luffy to gradually begin to improve   his observation hockey and it wasn't really till  the end of that 12 hour that luffy was finally   able to see a bit of the future so basically the  most difficult and longest fight of luffy's life   just to improve his hockey in just one category  observation and while luffy was solidly stronger   coming out of whole cake than he was at the start  of the arc the fact is the relative growth was   far far smaller than what he has achieved in wano  and really what he has achieved in just his brief   time on the rooftop alone in wano luffy at the  start of the ark was so so far off from kaido   that kaido could casually one-shot luffy while  luffy was in his strongest form and kaido was   in his base form the gap between luffy and kaido  at the start of wano was far far bigger than the   gap between luffy and any other opponent in the  series up till now no arc villain had ever been   able to casually one-shot luffy with their first  attack so we went from the beginning of the arc   with kaido easily one-shotting luffy in luffy's  strongest form wakaida was in his base form   to now luffy in his base form easily splitting  the sky with kaido while kaido is in his upgraded   form and you could say well that was a long  time ago it's been 100 chapters since their   first fight so the growth hasn't been that fast  but the reality is that even as recently as udon   oda was really playing up how luffy basically had  no chance against the yonko with luffy unable to   even briefly stop an amnesic big mom from casually  wrecking him it didn't really feel like much had   changed from the kaido encounter and it felt like  we had a long long way to go before getting to   yonko level now finally after a week of training  and armament hockey i and i think many others did   feel right that luffy could finally start dealing  some damage to kaido on the rooftop i think where   things shifted to a lot of people feeling like  wait what the hell is going on here this was a   huge crazy leap forward was during the rooftop  fight itself when luffy got advanced conquerors   haki and started clashing evenly with kaido and  actually putting kaido on the back foot and at   this point now is very clearly being portrayed  as going truly evenly with kaido again without   even using gear 4. so to stress how crazy that is  let's look back at what luffy's base form was like   like an hour ago in the same battle he was going  about even with ulti and page one and now he's   splitting the sky so contextualizing luffy's  growth in whole cake it felt like luffy went   from starting off being around like let's say a  yonko's third commander to in the end being around   yonko's first mate and that in itself felt like  a huge substantial leap forward now in wano it   seems like luffy started the arc being comparable  to yonko's first mate and is now going toe-to-toe   with the supposed strongest character in the world  we've seen that even entire yonko crews together   may not necessarily be able to take down these top  tier figures like a kainu or big mom so the gap   between a yonko and their commanders definitely  felt like heaven and earth for a long time   in this series meaning the idea that luffy would  soon be doing this in base form against kaido was   pretty much inconceivable at the start of this arc  now i'm not saying that any of that makes luffy's   growth here necessarily unfair i'm just clarifying  why so many people feel that this just seems like   too much too fast because factually you can look  back at the entire series and especially the new   world and acknowledge that this is pretty much  the biggest and quickest leap forward luffy has   ever had even accounting for the two weeks  of training in udon the reality is that the   real huge leap luffy made was during the fight  on the roof that was the real huge moment of   exponential growth again just a reminder this was  luffy before the rooftop and this is luffy now the   leap on the rooftop was clearly way way way more  drastic than all of the udon training beforehand   it's easy to forget but up till luffy unlocked  advanced conquerors haki the consensus was that   kaido and big mom are still way above him so if  you feel like this is just maybe too much at once   i think that's understandable and i think that's  a fair argument to make the clarifications i would   add though are that perhaps that final barrier of  achieving advanced conquerors hockey was always   destined to be the biggest most drastic leap  forward for luffy in the series as conquerors   hockey has just always been treated as a very  special and unique branch of hockey and whereas   we were always given glimpses of what advanced  observation or armament could do conquerors was   the one shrouded in mystery furthermore even  though mastering advanced armament and advanced   observation hockey seemed to be much longer more  gradual processes the fact that luffy was able to   suddenly used advanced conquerors haki all at  once makes sense looking at the explanation we   were given which is that luffy simply realized  that you can allow conquerors to flow out of   you offensively the same way you can with armament  meaning that the bulk of the training luffy needed   for advanced conquerors haki was really already  technically achieved in udon where luffy learned   the process of letting haki flow out of him it's  just that the only final step luffy needed was   the sort of aha moment where he realized that the  same skill he had mastered of letting haki flow   out of him could be done with conquerors instead  of armament making for an exponentially stronger   effect when he swapped armament for conquerors  that's at least my justification for why such   a huge leap in such a short amount of time makes  sense but i kind of want to acknowledge both sides   in that it is not unreasonable to say that luffy  getting to this level so fast may feel rushed   as this was just factually way way way faster  growth for luffy than anything else in the series   beforehand i mean some people felt like luffy's  growth in whole cake island where he attained   future sight a skill that katakuri had trained for  decades in a single fight that alone was too fast   so to see luffy walking into onigima like  this and two hours later doing this is just   pretty insane by any standard it's a long way  of saying that for many people they may not feel   ready to call luffy yonko level just yet because  it simply feels too early or too fast now another   interesting reason i personally feel people may  subconsciously not be ready to acknowledge luffy   as one of the strongest characters in the world  is because we are only really getting to see luffy   fight kaido now that might sound weird since  kaido has been established as one of if not   maybe possibly the strongest character in the  world right now but i think a big reason people   may not be giving luffy credit at the moment is  because a lot of people may also be subconsciously   not giving kaido credit this goes back to the  marine ford war the marine ford war was when we   got to see all of the world's strongest characters  that we knew of so far fight each other white   beard the admirals the shichibukai blackbeard etc  we got a lot of feats and information to go off   from the marine ford war and a lot of ideas of how  these characters stacked up against one another   the marine ford war to this day gave us the most  context of what the strongest figures in the world   look like in a battle against each other now  what's interesting about kaido and big mom is that   even though we know and are told that kaido and  big mom are the same as whitebeard and shanks were   that they are among the strongest few characters  in the world we have actually almost never seen   kaido and big mom against other established strong  characters besides each other which is essentially   the same problem which is that kaido and big mom  from what we have seen on screen in the story have   essentially existed in a bubble separate from all  of these major figures in the marine forward war   yes it's amazing that kaido can solo all of  these scabbards and we can logically draw a lot   of inferences to determine that the scabbards are  pretty strong but the reality is that people would   simply be more impressed seeing kaido against say  an admiral because that is drawing from a context   that we have more to go off now that's not to say  that kaido and big mom are weaker than admirals   or other yonko i'm not saying anything i'm just  saying that this might be a more subconscious   feeling some readers may have that we have yet  to be shown how impressive these two figures are   against the outside world we have been told that  they should be considered among the strongest   but seeing it has a greater mental effect for  instance even just shanks who has had way less   panel time and way fewer fights than kaido in  the two times he swung his sword in the series   it's been him clashing with whitebeard and  clashing with akainu that alone makes shanks   subconsciously carry a lot of weight in readers  minds as this absolutely tippy top tier character   as we were shown that whitebeard and akainu were  the most impactful figures in the marine ford war   on either side and we got to see shang's clash  with both of them i think that's why i see so   much discussion nowadays of people saying that  even though luffy is very very clearly going   even with kaido right now that it's hard to  imagine luffy taking on shanks on the other   hand i think if we had actually seen kaido clash  with whitebeard or seen kaido stop a kainu then we   would be viewing luffy's current feats with less  skepticism in terms of what this means for luffy's   status among the world's strongest but because  luffy is specifically fighting against kaido   and we haven't been shown kaido against other  major world figures from the marine fort war   it almost feels like people are finding it easier  to simply downplay both luffy and kaido in this   moment not saying people are right or wrong about  who's the strongest how strong people are what are   the rankings etc i'm just saying this is why i  believe a lot of readers may subconsciously be   skeptical of everything that's happening right  now and what it really means for luffy's place   in the world and finally there's of course the  most important point that's holding people back   from saying confidently that luffy might now be  able to go toe-to-toe with any character in the   world that's the simple fact that movie has not  actually defeated kaido yet this is obviously not   the first time luffy has looked good against kaido  and then ultimately lost splitting the sky does   make a bigger impression than before for sure as  splitting the sky has historically symbolized two   absolute top tier pirates clashing on par with  one another but the reality is until luffy proves   he actually can beat kaido people are going to  be rightfully skeptical of where to place luffy   it's still very possible kaido himself has not  yet gone all out considering he hasn't used his   awakened zone form yet so at the end of the day  we need to know for sure that luffy can take on   kaido when kaido is going all out and not just  get wrecked yet again the reality is no amount of   clashes or sky splitting is going to make readers  unanimously feel like luffy truly has ascended   to that same level as the other yonko if kaido  beats luffy again right here you all know i for   one don't think luffy is going to beat kaido this  round but even so i personally consider splitting   the sky with kaido to indicate that luffy is now  perhaps actually yonko level whatever that means   and even if luffy still loses to kaido if kaido  you know awakens his devil fruit or whatever   i still think that splitting the sky with  kaido is a big enough deal a big enough   statement to say that luffy should now at least  be considered by us to be in that same category as   you know kaido shanks big mom blackbeard etc  as that fifth emperor of the sea so if you all   enjoyed this video then definitely like comment  and subscribe and i'll talk to you all later you
