hi friends hey welcome to this live stream i'm nate chatelier from daisrone i'm gavin brown uh developer and product designer for dikestrone and i'm manny uh co-designer and i made art for the game and kira who are you thanks everybody for joining us we're excited to have you guys uh the reason that we're doing this what the point of this is to be a tips and tricks uh helper video for dive strong adventures and dice from adventures when we designed it we wanted to create a cooperative game that is both fun and challenging we did not want to make a pushover game and a lot of people really enjoy that but struggling to get through it and so we think that with a number of helper tips and suggestions we can we can make sure everybody has a great successful time in that short adventure so that's what we're gonna be doing today uh i will say we're gonna have a q a at the end so please feel free throughout this whole thing to add all of your questions ahead of time and build them up and then we'll get to them all at the end uh but let's get into it dyson is not intended to be a mindless dice checker there's actually a substantial amount of strategy that goes into dice drone adventures and first i think we want to tackle a few rules that you might have missed along the way may you would kick us off sure i think uh one of the first ones that people overlook is on the score sheet it'll tell you that when you've lost the session you're going to begin we're going to restart your session but you're going to start it with whatever the base salves were let's say you had two plus three more so you're going to get you're going to re try that level with five salves now and that's a that's obviously it's our hope to help give a little boost in health to be able to help the overall uh team and i've seen a number of people who have forgotten that they get to add that plus three into a defeated round yeah so i think the key and the key thing here is uh it doesn't matter how many you spend uh during that round that you've lost you're always looking at what did we start this scenario with we're gonna add three to that number not whatever we have use all your salves and you lose that doesn't matter you're gonna be adding it to whatever you started this that scenario with yeah and on top of that uh making sure that you loot because you can even when you lose you're gonna get to draw and look at loot cards from rosella's shop so it's really important that you spend that gold get those sweet loot cards and get them into your deck or if you're a boss of course uh it's not rosella shop but you still get some boss loot to said but either way both your deck is getting stronger and salves as you restart is always higher than it was the last time you played when you lost you're getting stronger and stronger as you go through uh next rule you might have missed is your upgrades whatever um hero upgrades you play to upgrade your abilities of your character those last for the entire scenario uh this is maybe an ed's case but we've heard a few people who played them in a fight and then removed them afterwards that's not a thing they stay through the entire scenario now next game night or next scenario we play yes they are all gone but throughout one scenario they remain yep yep um oh this is an important one this is actually kind of a dice thrown rule is read the card and do what it says and sometimes that may seem silly or maybe even condescending to some people but we don't mean it that way right so a lot of rules questions will come up because they read the card and then they wonder if it does something else and we try really hard to tell you what it is and so sometimes we make it more complicated as gamers we're trying to we don't want something to happen or we do want something to happen so therefore we're trying to read in between those lines and as we often joke uh the rule book would be a thousand pages if a rule book had to say everything it was and wasn't every time you wrote a rule yeah so yeah don't don't think about what it isn't i guess yeah right and don't think about what you want it to say or not to say that's a very common problem in dice road is people we get all kinds of rules questions with uh it's because somebody had something done to them that they didn't like and they'll post the question because it's not what they need to do take it at face value do exactly what it says no more no less yeah so this next one is a very very common one uh that we've heard in the community people misinterpreting rules um this one is i think it's kind of on us because we we do if you rules lawyer it out it's it's correct in the rule book but we could have probably structured the rules we we probably could have did away with this one uh whenever a chest is whenever a chest is open so whenever you kill a minion you get a chest reward right whenever you roll dice for that everybody rules everybody gets that reward so everybody anytime any person kills a minion you everybody gets to roll dice for it and everybody gets the rewards so everybody's referencing uh the loot table and getting the reward based on their role there's always something in uh so in in our rule book we say you know uh the person who slayed the minion gets the reward which is technically true because we have a a a promo minion that actually just gives cards to whoever whoever slays them but in reality uh if you if you look at the the section on rolling rolling for loot uh everybody actually gets gets the what's inside the chest um so yeah the idea with there is because we could easily add we probably very likely will add expansion content to this in the future and so it leaves us room uh to do all kinds of different things but the idea is if i kill the minion and let's say he happened to give me cards and a chest right okay i get those rewards but whenever i open a chest there's something in it for everyone so hey manny hey gavin come look what's inside this chest that i got for you as well is the thematics of it all yeah exactly um the other thing uh that i was gonna talk about is uh playing open-handed so we're gonna be talking about this a lot this is probably the biggest you know strategic tip um or it's related to the biggest strategic tip of the game playing open hand everybody should have their cards on the table um and you know you might wanna i'm gonna surprise them by you know i'm gonna surprise my friends by helping them in this way it the the the puzzle of dice on adventures so complex that we especially in you know higher player count games we need everybody needs to have access to everybody else's cards and you should always always be thinking about how you can help your teammates on on their turns uh in order to do that everybody needs to you know you need to have your cards on the table and you need to be constantly talking about the options you have to help each other um make sure you pay attention to each other and the reason this is in the missing rules section is because some other cooperative games you cannot do that uh you have to have your cards secret to you that is not a thing index fun adventures in fact not only do you not have to keep them secret but we encourage you as gavin said to let everybody see them it'll be a much better experience okay uh don't forget that there are multiple difficulty settings in the game some of the struggles we've heard from people saying ah this game's so hard i can't beat it and then we ask what difficulty playing on they're not playing on normal uh difficulty if the game's too hard no problem we suggest starting out with an easier difficulty um and getting used to it there first or even you know if you're if you've done two scenarios on hard and you're like man this is your veteran it's too hard then switch yeah just change middle of your campaign no big deal yeah we will not call the police [Laughter] we won't we want it all um all right let's get into some some just basic tips in the game now uh the first one is make sure that you understand a basic dice drone strategy that is such an important thing in the game uh i know some people don't want to feel like they they want to battle manny and gavin one-on-one and stuff and so let's just quickly jump right into dice run adventures uh you're making the game much harder on yourself than it needs to be uh play normal dice phone first it'll be a smoother faster experience you'll understand the strategy more and how to how to win if you don't want to feel like you're you're killing your friend and some people don't like that in 1v1 or whatever then call it a sparring match and you'll you'll figure it out but it's really important that you understand basic dice from strategy before you play the game yep agreed and actually one note on that too the fundament that the strategies do definitely change in dice run adventures so although it's very important to have the foundation of basic dice run strategy that strategy may or may not work in dice run adventures for example there are a lot of times where i try actively to avoid my quote basic attack in standard dice room but that might be the best ability um to use in dijon adventures given the situation so the strategy does change but still without that foundation of basic dice run strategy you're making it harder than it needs to be yeah i think i mean i absolutely agree with that and i think even when you look at certain heroes right the shadow thief wants to play the long game in a standard game of dice thrown but in dta he may not get as many turns he may not have as many opportunities to play that long game and so you have to change how you think about your characters and how they how they act in a setting where the goal is for all three of us or four of us or however many to conquer the game itself great totally um so another tip is uh don't only this kind of piggybacks we just talked about but don't only use your cards to improve your attacks and again this is a dice thrown dueling mindset right in a dueling game i'm going to use my wilds for myself i'm going to tip the die against my enemy i'm going to make sure that i get the best turn possible and sometimes using a wild to to wreck the role of a minion is more important than making sure to get that part straight and knowing when to use those cards or even having conversations about it is really important like uh last night i was playing with aaron hein and uh the whole game was just an open conversation of okay i got my wild um i could use it now but if i save it i can help you hit your ability once you get this you know you're this status effect of this thing oh that'd be sweet you do that and i'm gonna hold onto my cp here you know it's just a giant conversation and i think that that's a super important thing is that my cards are not my own my cards belong to the entire group and i think uh like the card you know tip it you know that that card can be used um not just when you're fighting a minion it can be used against uh tiles that you flip right when when a tile asks you to to roll a die and something horrible is going to happen i mean that tippet can be clutched for those events oh my goodness we're going to all you know take whatever damage or we're all going to get poison or whatever because i rolled this do we have a tip it do we have two tippets you know and analyze those situations and see if the if your tippet is is better used for something like that than just okay now i'm gonna i'm gonna tip this to get a six so that i can do three more damage right right um yeah i think so one of the things i was going to talk about is uh don't don't push your luck i mean when you guys when you've uh when you've wrapped up uh a scenario you're especially a portal crawl well a portal crawl specifically um and there's three more tiles left i mean if you keep pushing um you're gonna potentially lose and you know we we do that all the time because we are completionists at heart i know uh manny is the type of guy that wants to destroy every single barrel in diablo me too yeah so i mean you make sure you understand that you know when you keep your you're put um often best to just go to the end um and also in that vein like plan your route around obtaining portal shards as soon as possible um so that you can allow yourself yourselves to heal more so we need to we need to upgrade the power of ourselves immediately immediately that's what we're always thinking about and usually there's a there's a portal shard like really close to your the uh the the uh what is it called the the starting tile um so yeah make sure you try to plan as well as you can how to get those um portal shards as soon as possible to upgrade yourselves right um salves are are very valuable um for boss scenarios they're you know you wanna you wanna go into a boss scenario with as many salves as possible and that's not always that's not it's not always possible to to to save them but if there is a case for for for potentially trying to save salves and pushing your luck a little bit um you know saving them saving as many as you can for boss scenario is a good plan yeah i mean it's pretty obvious when you look at it the bosses start with 80 health yeah you as a team have 40 or 50. so those salves um can you beat a boss with any helps yes yes you can like going back to my points about um you know getting the finishing the scenario so you might be like well we have like three salves or four salves left we should clear all the rest of these tiles we'll make it that's not all you got to consider you have to consider the you know the the the upcoming boss fight right so if you're pushing your luck and you're consuming yourselves just trying to be greedy with those other tiles you're potentially making yourself lose the next scenario so i think one thing also is this kind of goes with uh understanding the core of dice throne understanding how dueling works understanding how heroes function is playing heroes that you are comfortable with and that you're familiar with and if you haven't played very often and if you're playing with anyone who knows how to demo the game they probably had you play the gunslinger or the samurai or the barbarian or the moon elf or what we would consider lower complexity or lower bar for entry heroes and knowing your hero knowing how to get them to to fail less often or learn how to optimize their play is a crucial element like if you've only if you've only played once jumping into the huntress or the artificer yeah or the cursed pirate it's probably not a good idea even if you think oh it's just a dice game i just gotta roll dice right you know this it is not just a dice game there are players of strategy so being really familiar understanding how do they prevent are they an all-in hero on prevention is it an evasive hero that needs that needs that one two or the serif who needs a six on flight right saving that six it for the perfect opportunity to hit your flight is clutch in uh dice run adventures yep um yeah avoid your team has to actively avoid players just flubbing and not flubbing their whole turn and not yes you know doing anything you know so if somebody has um and and don't be too you know don't be too again don't be too greedy uh don't push your luck with just your basic turn i mean if if the guy if your your minion has four health left and you can just do a basic attack or risk a cooler attack you know consider taking your basic attack uh that's not that glorious but again let's let's finish the scenario and and with and achieve victory as our main goal yeah and go ahead i was just playing a game with my my son my daughter and my eight-year-old daughter had uh she was fighting a minion that had two health left and she was playing the moon elf and she oh her first roll had three sixes and two feet i got i gotta go for it right and so she she went for it came away with nothing we had no cards to help her she failed her whole turn but in truth she could have easily killed that minion if she just rolled for some bows yeah those uh those three sixes that's like the sirens call yeah yeah you gotta chase it um so one of the i'll say is uh definitely use and abuse uh synergies between heroes so for example actually in the game with my family um we use smoke bombs and and things of capacity basics and smoke bombs and things like that liberally so we would look at like okay who's either on the verge of death or who is going in who's going to be the first one in the turn order to open up and fight this really hard you know epic minion or whatever it is and let's try and make sure that we're set up to support that player it's dice run adventures is a very very team based game you if you play a four player game and you're all playing your own individual games within a four player game you're gonna just lose the game period it's gonna happen you have to work collaboratively as a team or it's not gonna work out so consider the team consider the the strategies that your hero has to be successful and how those strategies can help other players so another example is the pyromancer uh i i love that her burning soul ability can hit uh everybody out there on the board and so we will purposely figure out ways to keep the pyromancer alive because she's a glass cannon but then instead of going together as a group we'll purposely start multiple fights on the map together and then set it up so the pyro can just finish people off when she does aoe damage to everybody on the board so think about your character strategies and how they can help the whole team totally kevin uh yeah uh i was going to talk about how it's never too early to use a knot this time well sometimes it can be too early depending on how much health you got but you can always use a not this time on somebody who's whose health is just seems to be draining right you can use it on any player um just because you got in your hand again in front of you you know let the team have it help your friends um so you know it's it's always best to use these over salves um because the the longer you can go without using your salves and the better they become uh the more the more probable it is you guys are going to make it through your your session yeah and multiple reasons for saving those salves one is because with each portal shard you get of course the value of them goes up uh in a port crawl anyway and so ideally you want to try hard to to not use any solves until you've gotten all the portal shards if you can help it um and two is if you don't use a salve at all then of course you got to carry those into the next scenario now you can push your luck a little too far on that and end up losing the whole thing because you didn't use the solve early enough um so there's a balancing act there which is part of the fun of the game but even you can save themselves use not this time and other methods until you're ready to use this i'm gonna i'll talk about something else you're related to salves um while we're on the subject um you know work work your turn order and who's doing what on their turn in order to allow the player who needs the salves to get them right um so there's salves on the board that you can go and obtain who should be getting those salves who should be picking them up i maybe i i have more health so i can go for this portal shard pick up the portal shard next turn to allow you to go get the salve over there on your turn right try to work your return order and who's doing what um in order to get the salves to the people who need them i agree because rezzing other players is is not optimal because they come back and hit point yeah it can happen but not optimal um i'll say that uh remember that you can always discard loot cards at any time no matter what's going on in the game and immediately draw a replacement loot card and this is important for two things here number one is you don't have to care about deck bloat at all in dice road adventures as someone who loves deck building games quite a bit um thinning your deck is like one of the most important strategies you could ever do to any deck building game in dicer and adventures it's irrelevant because if i add a new card and i feel like well i wish i could get this card outside thinner deck you can always do that option i draw it no i don't want the starter and i'll discard it draw a new card no problem you never have to worry about it or if a card has an edge case scenario we're like well this would be good but maybe only 20 of the time so if it was a true deck building game then i might not add this card well what if you draw it exactly in that twenty percent of time and if you didn't find this card draw a new one and the last thing i'll say on this note is sometimes you may just discard cards even if they're good cards but they're loot cards and you might discard them anyway because there's a panic situation happening so manny's on the verge of death man if i just had you know i haven't upgraded not this time in my deck or something i have a maybe a wild card tip it could save his life i've got a variety of cards in my deck that could save him and if we don't do anything he's going to die i might even discard good loot cards that i have right now just to draw and hope that i get just the right card to save so it's a very powerful ability to be able to do that and further to that getting uh obtaining or picking those loot cards that are upgrades to your base cards are actually a way to tooth in your deck because now you're not this time two or whatever which you probably would never discard but it's you know better d better d2 or whatever um you can if you get that you can discard it and you know just get a new card so by obtaining that upgrade you've actually removed one card from your deck so yeah that is there is actually a way to thin your deck which is getting those loot cards agreed uh don't over kill enemies with ultimates so like everybody likes getting it like you know nate was saying with the three i rolled three you know sixes man this this whatever green minion has two hit points left and but i want to ultimate them anyways you know i'm gonna twice as what like no yeah what kind of attack is appropriate to minimize the the use of resources of that our team has like don't be don't be using card dice fixers to to just so you can get your ultimate or just so you can get the amazing attack in right and i would uh it's interesting because i 100 agree with that but again understanding your heroes and how they function in the game is important because there are heroes like the vampire lord like if she's at three health and she can hit an ultimate against a hero that doesn't prevent with full blood power stack she could then be at 15 health a moment later right and in that instance i might do that i might help them in the middle of a campaign in order to push them through so again that understanding the deeper under the heroes and how they function is super important and most times you shouldn't overkill minions with your ultimates totally and it'll be those corner cases yeah and you know if you're if the minion you're fighting against has like two h two hp left um maybe you choose to do like maybe you go for the your ability that does too undefendable right right so that they can't activate their their defense ability right because that defensibility is going to potentially do damage back to you which wasn't necessary to begin with if you go for your undefendable attack which is usually lower damage right yeah totally i think with this statement i mean everything we're saying kind of continues to redirect back to the idea that the it is a cooperative game this is a game where we are a team we are using our abilities to help each other they're unlike regular dice thrown where if i hit 4 on defendable and i gain a cp and mesmerize oh that sucks but in dice thrown adventures four undefendable a cp and a mesmerized could literally be the difference in saving your friend or defeating the minion or the enemy and so having a different perspe on the abilities on your board how they function in the game how they interact with each other uh you know the uh shoot the card that the paladin has that gives a chosen player retribution protect accuracy and crit like he can generate those like crazy but yeah it costs 4ccp but being able to give that to my teammate super awesome yeah agreed and in general kind of in closing in our tip section uh don't be afraid to lose that's kind of an aspect of the game it's very very difficult to go through the entire game without losing a single scenario certainly it can be done but it's a small percentage of teams and players who managed to pull that off so it's okay to lose you you get you get more salves you get more cards and you look back it's no problem at all um keep going so yep agreed so i think that closes out uh the the rules and the tips we had let's move into a q a cure i don't know if you want to kind of guide this section if you've seen some questions that have popped up we can try and catch up too i have the first one i was gonna say this is manny's realm i think as we've alluded to the whole time um it's all about understanding the situation and what's needed uh if you're playing in a team if you're playing as a group and you're fighting a boss and you naturally roll a bunch of hearts maybe that is good to take that six or seven heal i will say that the barbarian is ridiculously powerful in dice strong adventures yep he as he is in the dueling game he's the only hero that can literally one shot an enemy in one turn and you utilizing his powers is super valuable to the game like his defense his defense is relatively soft he can heal a little bit he might not heal at all but that isn't why you're bringing the barbarian and i think just like in dueling people who bank on the barbarians healing as their method to victory they will be sorely disappointed if they expect the barbarian to heal the team to victory all right it sounds yeah i mean this the barbarian can i mean the barbarian you know if we're if we're saving all of it as a group if we're playing them with the barbarian against the boss you know when uh multiple of us have wilds out i mean let's stun lock the boss or or at least get his king's hands gone right yeah right out of the gates like the barbarian can stun lock you can keep stunning the guy over and over again so if the more wild cards that we have at the table the more players we have the more probability of wild cards we have and the more we can exploit the the barbarian's offensive power all right great question all right so next pyromancer solo veteran tips that might be too specific good luck it can be done in truth i mean different heroes are they they do have different strengths and weaknesses in their stream adventures uh based on a number of factors there's better team synergies on what goes together there's there's better style i think playing dice thrown adventures as a pyromancer solo in veteran is just going to be difficult um i mean sorry to cut you off i mean i i think that that kind of sounds like playing playing through a d d campaign with just a wizard soloing is just a wizard and you have no healing and your magic runs out and you're hitting with your staff you know it it's it the pyromancer does need a poor character really yeah good challenge like i i have actually done a solo run with the pyromancer and guess what you lose you lose scenarios it happens yes you need sounds you need a way you you need to when you get loot cards you need to prioritize ones that can heal or can benefit your defense or that can generate more salves or grab them off the board where you need them and you're probably not going to run a dungeon with a with a pyro you're probably not going to clear every you probably have to play optimal as opposed to uh fully explore every dungeon or portal crawl so i don't think that there is a do a do be and then profit with the pyro yeah but i think it could still be uniquely fun right at the same time yeah i love just burning everybody to the ground she does high damage high risk high reward you'll be a little more on the edge of your seat frankly than a lot of other characters would be and so that might create its own fun factor if you like that kind of thing it's like if you like dark souls you probably might like that kind of a challenge if you don't don't don't it's probably not for you yeah don't do that yeah you're kind of wanting to one-shot everything right yes yeah you are absolutely trying to win and the pyromancer has the damage output that she's capable of that right yeah because a lot of a lot of the minions kind of hover at the the amount of the health level where she can just squeak over top and one shot them i'm not gonna i'm not gonna spoil it but there's something in the box that would make playing pyro solo way more sweet true save it so speaking of spoilers so finish the game first yes speaking of spoilers we are specifically not getting into spoilers on this q a so please head over to our facebook community for those and uh do your best to make sure that you you know put the spoilery content low in the post all righty so the next question is about a boss fight um if i draw a card that says draw another card should i use the roll aim don't know if that's the right wording at the moment of this card or the next strong card yes so i mean again this this goes back to read it and do it so the card says gain 3cp draw another card so i take that card i discard it and i draw another card that becomes the top card of the boss's deck or the one that is active and now we do that card that card has a roll objective on it it might say um whatever it might have say give king's hand to the boss you know so you treat the new card as a new card and now that's your new role objective so uh the reason a role objective is on every card and we address this in the rulebook is for the corner cases where let's say i'm the barbarian and i can cuss the boss turn one they don't even get to play yet they have to flip a card over when they begin their turn in order to have a role objective that card could be coffers and then they would ignore the benefit of gaining cp and they would simply use the role objective on the bottom so while it's a little confusing for people upfront when you experience it in game like that it makes total sense as to why that exists yeah and speaking of coppers i'll just take this next question um has to do with that it's if the fallen barbarian draws coffers to gain two cp and draws one card is that card drawn from the upgrade debt or loop deck uh so two things going on here first to manny's point you just explained it i won't recap it um but second is after you upgrade the boss then the upgrade deck is is gone it's set aside there's not two separate decks beyond that point uh so you would always just draw it from excludes upgrades after the game is in play and you definitely wouldn't draw it from the loot deck because that's yeah that's that's true i think the wrong word but yeah from from the remaining of his action card for sure not the loot deck in case anyone yeah yes for sure okay next question are tokens limited to the count in the box or stacked for character stack per character like on the pamphlet in the base rule book that says if you run out of tokens then use whatever you have around your house to represent the token so don't ever be afraid of that it's the stack limit that matters yeah and that's true even uh if you already have two tokens you want to give one to your friend you don't have enough there's too many players or they're all over on minions regardless of the scenario if you need more tokens than you have in the box find some things to represent them you can even use other tokens that aren't currently in play uh from other characters and put them on whatever you want it doesn't matter yeah okay so ourselves limited to 10. this is the same question so but i figured we'd say it just because it is that particular very important thing in the game so this is an interesting one we were just talking about this we actually um in the rulebook did originally intend salves to be limited uh to ten but we went back and forth um and we were just talking about this the other night danny gavin i think i mean if we're being totally honest i think we forgot to write it in the rulebook i think and and i in the end i don't think it matters i if you want if you want to generate 18 or 20 or whatever i according to the way our rule book is written you can do that yeah sorry i i think you're playing aptly if you're saving 20 salves either the game is too easy you should probably crank up the difficulty or you're probably not playing yourselves accurately yeah we did it actually i mean in truth i did intend the number of ourselves to be limited uh for i think it can get crazy when people just accumulate too many subs that was not the intention of the game that that should have been in the real book having said that i think for some of the players who are struggling a bit more um you know by all means if you need a lot of styles and you're still struggling with the game i would say house rule it this should be a fun game for you and if if the difficulty seems too hard feel free to house rule it for things that you feel like let's make sure my family or friends have a great day tonight don't be afraid to do that uh but the truth is we the players who are just hoarding salsa get the highest score possible that was absolutely not intended um to be able to do that but we didn't put in the rulebook so feel free to take advantage of that okay well let's talk about heal so when the heal abilities happen can a character heal another character so no so i'll say no and yes so the the the key thing again is read the card or ability and do this if a card says a chosen player may heal x that means anyone it doesn't anybody can get that healed if it says heal for heal for means the person with the card that they're playing they're the ones who heal not so the default is feeding everyone yeah the default is you it's your card it's your deck it's your ability you're playing or activating the a chosen player player's key or in the original version of the game it said target player so that's that's a key differentiation when it comes to healing okay thank you so if a player is engaged with a monster do the other players wait for that monster to be killed after or after one turn of battle from the player and the monster the other turns can now be done by the non-engaged players turn order always progresses no matter what um you'll never take two turns in a row unless you happen to have something unique that says you take two turns in a row as many said um otherwise that's not what happens turn order always goes on so if me manny kieran gavin we're all playing and i'm locked up in a minion and it's taking me you know five turns to kill this minion uh then i would still take my one turn they could go on with all their turns back to me i'm still the same minion and around around we go uh if they want to join me and help me with this fight they can certainly do that if they want to go their own way they can certainly do that it's up to them great thank you so real quick i'll preface this one um we definitely had a lot of rules changes as we play tested after the kickstarter and going on and on so yes there are bits of content out there that might have rules that are no longer present uh so we definitely make sure want you to look at anything that's been posted around now so like the how to play on man vs meeple and such so um this question pertains to that in one of your later playthroughs after finalized rules you killed the final minion and then explored the rest of the crawl map that's no longer allowed right not a thing okay correct when a card says take a token from a hero's leaflet can you use that on the enemy boss do they count as a hero no um they count as a player yes so cards that uh choose a chosen player blah blah you can choose them but they are not heroes uh that word specifically means us human players who are playing to win the game together yep is there any scenario where you can lend cards to your teammates never well you can always use them on your teammates so you can't you can't give them to them to use them in the first person but most cards in the game can be lent through using them on your teammates yeah yes that's kind of true this is giving you a hand yes help again uh this is about some of those rules of what you want the game to do versus what it can actually do i know you may want to do that and again if you want a house rule to make the game better for yourself you can but in the actual rules of the game no definitely not this falls into that same category i believe but uh if you if you pull a card that says something like spend a cp to do a thing or do something else alternatively do something else if the cp isn't available available must be alternatively be done always yes correct all right can you discuss the usage of your tokens and buffs and how to use them in co-op yes you want to do that i think we've uh yeah can you discuss the usage of them how to use them for sure i think you should definitely again it's that whole open hand thing like uh knowing that i have protect and i can potentially give it to someone we should all know that so that we can be absent accordingly not only can you you should yes yes 100 yes and if you want to win you must i agree with all that all right is it best to hold yourselves for bringing a teammate back the health you get often doesn't seem worth it i would say no this yeah this this is where i think strategy comes a lot into play uh and generally in general uh i specifically try to hold salves to do the most healing that they can possibly do so i try to get all the portal shards and i try to use them when i'm giving plus six or more based on some other things that may be going on in the game um and use them at that time when and if i have to use them uh there may occasionally be a time where it's better to revive a teammate um so for example or hold it for the potential of reviving them yes absolutely um so if gavin has he's on his last hit point and it's his turn and i have no self yeah and he's got no salves and he's fighting you know level four minion he's probably gonna die if we can't do anything with him so making sure that you know me or manny or somebody else has a self to revive him is a good strategy um in that scenario but it's the majority of the time i will try to use them for healing if i can and we always always talk about okay so if i use myself now and you go down on your turn then manny can use a itself on you and then he could potentially heal like you need to talk about what's happening in in the coming turns you know you you gotta even with salves like everything in the game you need to talk about as one group right we're getting into some specifics here on this one so um let's see where did it go um yes thank you i thought i saw another one there but i lost it so in a boss fight can i use the heal bot any time the shared health pool is attacked no no the defensive abilities and things like the heal bot are only used when the artificer is being attacked this next question seems to be in response to something you guys said earlier and i apologize for not having that exact reference but they said wait you can exchange positive status effects with transference yes yeah yeah so to clarify when when i said it earlier like again i'll use an example the paladin has a card that allows him to give a chosen player all of his status effects all of his positive status effects now obviously i must have the cp to play that card to then give my teammate the status effects um and so in that situation yes i am exchange i'm giving them to my teammate but no we are not freely sharing the status effects amongst each other all right is there any point not to join in a minion battle definitely 100 absolutely depending on your health yeah there's a number of reasons so some obvious reasons are there are some minions that will do damage to all engaged heroes and so you may want to limit how many people engage with them another example is you may have a hero that can handle a minion on their own and so we want to as quick as possible have somebody else go get some portal shards or do something like that so we can get them a little better uh or you may have a particular hero's ability that gives reasons like i mentioned the pyromancer earlier it's better to have more minions fights happening at once um with her based on what she want to roll so that's just a few examples there are many times when you do not want to all team up and sometimes you do want to all team up it goes both ways yep go for it i was just going to say like you know whether you know manny might be an evasive hero um which is good against this specific minion that um that does un undefendable because and he's got an evasive on his board so i'm gonna go he's gonna come in and help me uh so that it doesn't get around to my turn and the minion can potentially do more damage to me so that would be a time when he would help but but maybe the opposite is true right so yeah also factoring in first strike minions is a key thing as well um if i am low health and nate's engaged with the first first strike minion uh i may not want to immediately jump a fight where the first thing that's gonna happen is i potentially take five damage right right so or or if you don't do undefendable and i do and i'm engaged with uh has like you know it's just got three hit points left then i i actively don't want you to come and help me because i can just undefendable this guy my next turn whereas maybe you don't have as good of undefendable abilities right lots and lots of reasons or timing also picking up salves maybe gavin really needs a salve i have three totally like dude you go get the self because you need it don't finish this guy because then it's my turn and now i'm gonna end up getting a solid when you're the one that should have it a number of reasons yep all right so we talked about this for a brief moment we of course went through a lot of iterations with the rules um especially like the save state edition so can you talk about how why those rules evolved and how you feel about the final balance you achieved we went through so many iterations of rules it's actually one of the bad parts of doing game design is after the like 100th iteration of rules in a game sometimes they all jumble together and and then we're on a live stream and i say the wrong thing i was like oh no that was ten rule sets back um so uh we did go through many many iterations uh i'm quite grateful to collaborate with gavin and manny on this they they brought many many wonderful ideas at the table that were were indeed implemented um and so i'm quite pleased with the final set of the rules is it perfect uh no actually i think there's room to have improved even things um a little bit more but uh am i pleased with it very pleased with it it's a lot of fun i've been having a blast i finished camping with my family recently i've been reading a lot of reviews i'm i'm quite happy with the final rule set all right so this is a good one because i do feel like i've seen this one come up several times if a minion dies in your upkeep phase do you still roll your offensive gaining the tokens and so on yeah once you start your turn you finish your turn it's a very simple rule so whatever phase a minion has died if i have begun my turn i still get a complete so what does that mean of course now am i doing damage to error uh we highly recommend take the time to try to do something that benefits your hero in the long term so back to that question of barbarian fortitude that might be a great time to use barbarian fortitude and just heal up uh or perhaps you want to try and gain flight or evasive or some other beneficial effect or if i was the pyromancer maybe i try to do burning soul and hit somebody else's minion who's fighting or there's a number of different ways where you can try and take advantage of that situation but you still get the rest of your turn so uh let's talk a little bit about people who are struggling with the first boss do you have any general level strategies and maybe cards you should hold back i found that question to be interesting because your your change dice he says specifically should i save my change dice cards for the boss attacks uh maybe it depends on how many how much damage they're doing to you and right what you can change their dice to yeah i mean ultimately you're trying to make them flub not just hit something less good if you're gonna use your change dice cards on them um again maybe it it depends i've done both yeah it's true because he's gonna have a king sand if he does have lots of king's hands then maybe i want to force his dice into him doing the worst attack he has available on his board or attack that i am set up to defend against based on what i have going on or something um so for example let's say somebody hits me for 14 damage the gunslinger does 14 damage against me well maybe instead of messing up with their attack if i'm someone who has an evasive token or smoke bomb token then i might save my change dice to just evade all of their damage rather than force them to so there's times and situations where your strategy changes and without knowing what hero you're playing and everything else or how many people are your team it's hard to give specific advice right so i mean think again uh knowing the game well enough will help you here because the fallen barbarians specifically can stun lock you into the ground and that is something you don't want to experience yeah so understanding that when they get six fusion and they're start chasing their skull crush you know like that's a time maybe to mess with his dice yeah cause him to only hit you for 10 defendable with his basic attack instead of letting him hit you two or three times in a row or like the other bosses maybe use evasives well well you might need that tippet to stop them from using evasives and this is where there in some ways the game definitely gets harder with increased player count and some in other ways it gets easier so for example if i'm against the fallen barbarian and it's me manny gavin playing and someone saved that bye-bye because now let's say i get stunned by the barbarian i can't play any cards but manny still can so he might say play the instant remove a sass effect for me remove my stun and now the barbarian doesn't get that benefit against me that's something you could not do in a solo game but it's a great strategy in a multiplayer game yep and you have the you have the potential in a four-player game you have four ba-byes in your decks yeah yes or again in a four-player game there's a lot of strategy around player count i mean the game can totally change your strategy based on player count so if we have a four-player game and somebody for example is the paladin i would combine all of our resources to ensure that our paladin player hit his ultimate so he gets blessing of divinity and if we die we all come back with one health point so i would say no matter what guys we're gonna make sure the paladin hits his ultimate above all that's one example of how you might change based on your player account yeah all righty so um we've semi covered this but this is a specific little specific so i'm going to go ahead and go over it again when you're using a status inflicting equipment item such as poison syringe can the status effect inflict can they surpass the normal effect stack limit in this case no no i know you wanted it this is one of those what you want and what it says do what it says yeah stack movement for poison is three three doesn't become four it doesn't begin what it is yeah all right so a couple heroes specific questions here is the paladin tithe ii and trench coat infinite combo with prosperity or gold digger legal to use okay so if you can pull it off yeah 100 you can i want to see video of this happening so yeah i'm gonna i will speak to this directly so this one so we obviously we're evaluating we're in the comments we're in facebook we're in discord we know what people are attempting to do we follow and so when i when i heard about this one the first thing i did was check the validity of how how hard is it to do to pull this off and step one is you have to own the promo pack of cards so the base game doesn't even come with the promo pack so anyone who buys it from now on they would have to own that and then there's a handful of cards they would have to draw from the loot decks and have in their deck and then have the cp to play it and then draw the trench coat and then and then and then it's about five and then deep and so part of me just says hey good job you found you found an intensely odd loop that could happen and isn't even guaranteed to happen every game so will there be more of those that happen in the future maybe but i think it also goes to show how deeply people want to dig into dice thrown which is actually kind of awesome i think yeah and i mean yeah we we did talk about you know a fix to the trench coat would be you could only or was it yeah the trench coat was once using it once per turn right right yeah that would be an easy enough way to the first card you sell this turn you get 2 cp from but right you know if you want to implement that as a house rule like it's pretty clear how to fix it um you know it's kind of it's kind of fun that it exists for a video game we we put a patch up [Laughter] although if you look it's like do maternal or whatever it's all sorts of broken and the the speed running community is like finishing the game in like 15 minutes or whatever and the developers are like we're going to actually keep all this stuff because it's tough because it's awesome that you guys have figured out that i think it's true yeah that's cool all right so nate for folks that are trying to gm dysart adventures do you have any tips for how to frame this adventure for them like a story of what they're doing and the things that they come across yeah um so we when when i was guiding uh people through that sort of ventures at uh pax unplugged and south i think it was um we were kind of doing that and it was it was a blast uh i gm'ing is not required in this game but it's a lot of fun uh to be able to do it i have one person that's just dedicated for it and so with my when i was playing with my kids it was just the three of us and so i was both a player but i would also whenever we'd flip an environment tile you know i would still uh gm that basically and create a stereo uh some kind of narrative around it wait till the last second and be like out jumps and i flip the environment and you know talk about the hero the the minion that spawned etc and my kids loved it it was so much more engrossing to them it kept them in the game a lot more i think it's a great way to do it uh two things one make up whatever story you want that's half the fun of jamming right um you can add your own flavor of why when i went down the alleyway did somebody that i like that's an easy story for you to fill in you know explain what happened some of it is a little more canon if you would like to use that um about the mad king of the portals manny do you want to speak mandy's our lore builder for this whole world yeah so to speak to the lord i mean as people have stated there is not a story campaign that is that was a choice we made a choice to not force you on rails through a narrative and partly because dice throne is typically all about the your narrative i'm the barbarian nate is the shadow thief you know we are these heroes so when i'm in there and i'm playing this is my game it's my story my hero and so to tell you and to force you to experience something along the road x happens and blah blah blah there's the the you know the guy jumps out blah blah you know we could do that and maybe we'll explore that in the future by creating a narrative narrative element to the game but specifically like the portal shards um as you see there's rosella right rosella has the has special abilities and we've we've explored these a little bit on the leaflets on even a little bit during the kickstarter campaign there was a few snippets of story about her and and so the portal shards being the keys that you need to unlock the different environments and portals that the mad king has put in place like he has he's handcrafted his world his his world is his playground and i think that that also really encourages what nate's talking about is go ahead gm uh some people ask how can you play five player and i think the perfect way to play five player is for me to be the person running the world i roll the dice you can get mad at me when i roll a large straight for the corrupted rogue and then you don't have to get mad at your daughter or your son who had to who rolled for the boss that time or whatever um and then i get to be like oh ho yeah here comes the you know the harpy you know and the environments are mine and i get to help speed the game along and to keep it in control and i think that that's also very important for the the gm so to speak okay i'm gonna wrap this up we are at our hour so we don't want to keep every too long but i do want to ask this one last question and real quick for anyone that did not get their question answered maybe we missed it or you didn't get a chance to ask it please feel free to do that in the comments below the video after it is on the replay or over in our facebook community so last question for you guys um what are your favorite personal solo duo and trio compositions for dta um four barbarians of course four shadow thieves no i actually really really want to play it that way um my favorite at the moment honestly is the vampire and the paladin that's my that would be the duo that i would do we can't hear you gavin you're muted still admitted and still muted no there you go can you hear me now yeah yeah sorry um yeah the paladin is definitely he's very very utilitarian i guess he he's very good for a lot of different things in in dicer an adventure we've we've also found the serif is really really good in dice round adventure yeah and i i think this would be a good time to like talk specifically about some of the good the good classes for those are that are struggling um you know i think the the paladin the seraph who else manny the vampire lord i think the vampire lord is real strong the barbarian i think is an excellent hero across yeah yep i think in general okay i was just gonna say as a general statement any hero with evasives can be very clutch yeah being able to mitigate all of the damage of an attack it's a great use for your your dice fixing cards on things like that they can make the game much easier there are parasite is a satisfaction that kind of punishes those heroes um but it they're still very powerful and okay on that in that vein what are the hardest heroes to play dicer adventure with pyro we've already been through that first pirate yeah she's she's hard but but incredibly fun um we've had some people that have really ripped the game apart actually with her i think if you play her um a little careful with when you flip and the damage you're taking from that and if you use a lot of the card play that she has available um she can be quite quite powerful she has a good chance of one-shotting a lot of minions too based on what she does um but she's kind of a high-risk high reward character yep great cool all right everyone well that wraps up the faq and the strategy strategy tips for today uh but don't forget like i said head over to our community don't forget to ask questions below and we hope everyone enjoys their adventure thank you so much everyone thanks kira appreciate it guys keep rolling sixes
