Hi everyone! I'm Maddie, I'm a designer at Abby Sparks Jewelry and today we're gonna talk about the difference between moissanite and diamonds and what that difference is when it comes to the actual stones. By the end of this video you're going to be able to decide which stone is best for you. So a lot of people think that moissanites are "fake diamonds" but moissanites are actually their own stone. They're a gemstone that does occur naturally, but it's so rare that almost all moissanite on the market is lab-grown. Just because something's made in a lab does not mean it's fake. Moissanite that's made in a lab is real moissanite. If you compared it to some moissanite you found in the earth it would have the same chemical makeup, the same hardness, the same optical values, and the same goes for a diamond. Lab-grown diamonds and diamonds from the earth look the same, they are the same, they just didn't come from the same place. I have clients coming in all the time choosing moissanite because they love that they know exactly where it came from. It's a more economical option when compared to diamonds, or even lab-grown diamonds, and it's got a little bit of a different brilliance that some people really love. Most people know where your classic diamond comes from. They are formed in the earth over millions of years and then mined and all of that energy is packed into them. You can also have lab grown diamonds, which are grown from a diamond seed and then into a diamond that resembles one that comes from the earth. You can have both! People who go with diamonds typically love the idea that they are the hardest stone you can put in jewelry, The way that light passes through them is different, it throws fire, fire being you know the way that the diamond shines in a different way than moissanite. Sometimes it has a little bit more of a deepness. Moissanite is the second hardest stone to a diamond, it is very close to a diamond in color and brilliance but it does have some differences. In addition to carbon in its chemical makeup it also has silicon. So that means the light that passes through a moissanite is thrown in a little bit different of a way. There's a little bit more color when it comes to moissanite in in the refraction index. Refraction is the way that light comes into and then back out of a stone. It's the way, when you look at a stone and you see the sparkle, that's light refracting out of the little prisms inside of the moissanite. To the untrained eye it's really difficult to see the difference between moissanite and diamonds. People who know the difference typically can see it fast, but your average person walking on the street will often confuse moissanite for a diamond. I've put dozens of clients in both diamonds and moissanite. People love diamonds for their richness and history and other people love moissanite for their sparkle and color. It's really about deciding which one fits your budget, your values, and your look. Thank you so much for watching!
