hey everybody welcome to clay shared day oh it's coming to the end we only have this diamond core tool demo and then we have a clay escapes pottery little q a session and giveaway and then it's the cake at eight so the cake party happens at eight so that's all we have left today but it's been so fun so far and i'm going to be doing a little demo sadly diamond core tools was not available to join me for this demo today but don't worry i'm going to make it worth your while i'm going to be doing a demo using the diamond core tools new handle extruders mine are still brand new in their package and they thought i was pretty brave to use these first time ever on a live broadcast but you guys know me yes brave would definitely be up there if you were to describe me it would be one of the top things i have zero fear so yes we will use them and we will see how it goes i bet they're going to be amazing if i know diamond core tools which i do they're going to be fabulous and then we're going to do a scorphito carving demo and if you don't know what's graffito is it means to scratch so you scratch away usually you put a dark colored slip or under glaze on a light clay or flip it around use a dark clay with a light colored slip or under glaze like i did here and you carve your lines so you scratch your lines in this is graffito let's see this one here is graffito i also have some examples of mishima here this one actually is graffito as well as are these cute little dishes look how cute they are and the other examples i have are technically mishima but it's the opposite where you carve your line and then you inlay it and my rooster is crowing for it because he loves scruffito and mishima it's his favorite thing and here's an unglazed piece this is what graffito looks like with black under glaze on a white clay body and then you carve through you get your lines and then you put your glaze on top the key is to make sure you use a glaze that's translucent so you can see your lines right that's the key all right let's move this pottery move those pots no it's not been that long of a day yet we're not there yet all right we're going to scooch all this stuff over because i got a box i got a block of bmx clay and we're going to use the handles you're excited about these handles too today oh lots of love that you're here for the birthday yeah and i just have to show this piece off because this piece took me eight hours to carve it is a mashima inlay and then hand colored every line you see i hand carved freehand i have been asked if i would sell it i will not because i will never make another this is a one and done it will never happen again although i do pieces that are very intricate this one was entirely different so but i can show it you could do graffito like this but this is mishimo it's been a very exciting day it sure has and it's been a long day but it's been a good day so i i like those kind of days so diamond core tools makes i think the best carving tools out there uh they make fabulous trimming tools i didn't grab up my little container of tools sorry everybody so here is their trimming tools i have a whole bunch of those yes they're messy because they get used that's how life is right if you use your stuff it's messy and then all of my carving tools i take much better care of because they don't send them out this way anymore but you used to get them in these little plastic tubes and i keep them in my tubes they live in their tubes because these are babies we treasure these we don't want anything happening to these tools so i have mine in here trimming tools you know they sit in their little bucket but the carving tools they're they're little treasures so we'll get to those later but right now we are going to be doing the extruding handles so i'm so glad to hear you've been enjoying the day it's just been fun it's a way to celebrate four years of clay share and there's nothing i would rather do than share it with all of you and other potters and it's it's just been a lot of fun so this is a fresh bag of clay and i'm not gonna wedge it i'm not gonna do anything to it but i think it would be nice to start with a level playing field here so i'm gonna grab my wire from under my counter and i'm going to cut this straight back so i have a nice flat surface because i've never used these before i haven't played with them i don't know what will happen oh the the discount yes so those of you who are waiting to find out what the discount is diamond core tools is doing 10 off everything except the studio sync like everything but the kitchen sink everything but the studio sink um so they're doing 10 off and that's the code is dct all capital letters d c t for diamond core tools and then jessica that's what it is it's my name sorry shaking the table and it's 10 off today only so if you've been waiting to buy diamond core tools now's the chance 10 is about as good as you get from diamond core tools they don't usually do a better deal than that all right let's start with these some of these are better for making feet some are better for making handles that's what i have been told so we will find out and when you order these they now come in these incredibly fancy lovely packaged boxes and it includes a little instruction sheet because when you first get it you know your it depends how you hold the little tool right so we're going to go ahead and we can adjust the depth of how far down we pull and so it looks like i have three in this box three in this box what do you want to bet there's three in the other box start a pool oh you've fallen in love with diamond core tools too i know i know i know they're nice oh they sent me a little patch a little diamond core tool patch and a little carving tool i need to add that to my clay share apron stick some patches on my apron three more all right so i have the these nine tools let's see oh these are really cool now they sent these to me a couple weeks ago and i haven't had a chance to get to them so i figured i'd save them for today so we're going to find out how they work and i see yes you hear my rooster growing he's doing his job he's out there doing his job that's what he's supposed to do all right let's go with this one and i'm going to tell you it's the r9 r9 okay let's see what the r9 does now remember some of these are better for feet some are better for handles some are better for rims i'm thinking the r9 what do you think the r means let's just before we let's just have a little little check r9 okay they're all ours forget it i thought there was something in there there's not so let's do this ready are we gonna um switch it over to the camera too alrighty on camera two i've got my tool in hand let's go i'm just gonna submerge it in the clay and pull it okay it drifts but you gotta you gotta hold it down firmly grasp it pull it through your clay now let's see if we peel it up oh oh oh oh yeah that's nice that's very nice look at it's beautifully smooth that i need a tray somebody give me a dish this is the perfect little can't you see can can you believe i have no trace i'm getting a tray hold on i have to look see when nobody's here with me and i don't have a guest i do what i want look how cute make your little handle for a tray right there right instead of i mean the fancy one's nice too but you could do this one and you could put it at an angle you can have it hanging off a bit this is a winner okay so i'm going to put the shape it makes next to the tool so i have a visual reference for myself i will take a still photo when it's all said and done and we'll put that up now the thing you would want to do is if you want a really long handle you're going to pull down the side of your block of clay right you're not going to go across the top but i'm doing little tests so we are just going to go ahead and do them here could you use as a rim oh yes yes you could this as a rim shape absolutely but also as a handle so love it that one's like a little bump bump on that one so things i have learned just keep it nice and even pull it through while it's submerged through your clay and then you peel it up this one's like bump bump bump bump look at that one nice rim absolutely hand build a plate plate looks great needs a little something throw a bowl it needs a little something pull one of these attach this and it will the clay will curve you can bend see it's still pliable how's that make a new rim i'm telling you this is going to be a game changer all right i'm gonna lay this one flat and put that next to that tool so far we are two for two i'm loving them all this one has bump bump a little bit of a sharper v we're going to see what it looks like as i knock my handle off oh my gosh all right here we go this one's not it's it's not true because i kind of went off a little bit but you get it it's a little simpler design so we have a sharper groove in the center a little a little softer rounded edge i still really like it i i think handles rims uh foot yes pull one of these cut the little chunks up and you can attach them as little feet so that's a win yep going with that too all right that's one box remember i still have to carve for you guys so i gotta get the i got to get these handles made because oh oh we got plenty of time all right so here's one it's a it's a little simple oh by the way would you like me to tell you what they were r9 was the first one i think i'm working backwards our eight is the second one i did the third one was r7 let's go find is there an r6 so that's our three i have a i have a random selection it seems all right we're just going to keep going this one is r6 all right we'll go with that put it in it wants to flow up just fight it don't let it come up you are the boss of the clay so this is just a strap handle a simple strap that's all that's nice though sometimes you want a simple strap so that's the r6 is a strap put that there now continuing on we are on our five it's my block of clay i can do what i want i'm just going to go down the side i would kind of like it a little smoother though so this would not be the way i would do this normally but for demo purposes why not okay fresh nice smooth surface got the r five handy let's see what we get gosh they pull smooth or for a basket instead of an extrusion exactly so this one here is the r9 that's the first one and then there's the r8 this is the r7 this is the r6 this is going to be the r5 the r5 has a little point it's kind of like if you were in sunshine cobb's workshop with us and she made those handles she did the little bit of pinching you were in the workshop you know i'm talking about right that is what it's like but it also has a little groove on the back and so there looks like you know a little cleanup you need to do wipe it down a little bit but it's pretty snazzy all right so that was the r five now we're on the r4 i'm counting down you see i'm counting down from nine that's how we're rolling here and i think you'll definitely want to practice a bit for how how deep you're going to press it in oh this is this is like a pulled handle this is beautiful this is a beautiful pulled handle very nice this is the r 4 the r4 and show instagram folks it would be a great strap handle great for a mug so many uses all right there's the r four and now we're going to r3 let's do this one oh this makes a a bit of a a chunkier piece here like it's a chunkier handle it could be a rim definitely could be chopped up for feet it has a nice profile that's a really nice profile there so that is the our three r2 is next oh it's a pointy like a v so instead of extruding these with an extruder you just pull it through your block of clay right this is the v oh wow can you see how nice that v is look at that profile if you want a triangle shape easier than put it through an extruder because you don't have to clean your extruder after you pull you're done so that's the r2 and then that leaves us you guessed it the r1 which is kind of a trapezoidal sort of shape going on there let's do this make sure you all are in camera because i want you all to be able to see right and we'll just pull through this one too and then this is the r1 which is that kind of trapezoid it really is a trapezoid shape like that wow so i've got nine handle options or rim or feet options here pretty quickly made you know the clay i'm just going to put this back in here and put this away can you pull a handle though that quickly i can can i scoot the board over he says yes i can scoot the board over yes i can so i think as much as i love my extruder if i want to extrude a handle and you know i bought lots of fancy handle dies for my extruder my big wall extruder they were very expensive and i tell you they're they're not they're not that great honestly but this i'm telling you let's talk about my favorites right i'm telling you r9 is a big winner the r8 is a good one those two i love i really like this one that was the r5 if you want a traditional pulled handle you definitely want the r4 and then i think the triangle one is really appealing as well as the r1 with that trapezoid so i don't know if they're selling them in sets if they are you might want to get a few me for the bang for my buck is the r9 definitely would be the one i think i'm going to be using this one the most it's very elegant classic has a lot of uses i can see it as a handle i can also see it as a as a mug handle i can see it as a handle or a rim on a platter and then if you want a more traditional strap handle you've got this one here which is the r4 so if you hate pulling handles and you want one to look like a pulled handle the r4 is your friend or maybe you like the look of the the r5 that's that's kind of nice too so think about it check them out if you're buying yourself a gift there you all go showing the instagram folks now we have to move on because i am going to be doing some carving for you all and uh you know that takes a little bit of time because we gotta prep a few things up make a nice foot the triangle one would make a nice foot it's definitely a game changer now i'll tell you diamond core tools are not cheap they're not cheap because they're the best quality tools out there but i have to tell you in all the years i've been using diamond core tools and diamond core tools you should know has been with me before clay share so they i've been working with diamond core tools for since 2015 so for six years i've been using diamond core tools almost seven and before that i just used whatever was out there for carving tools and it was okay but you'll notice on older pots that i don't have these really great crisp lines there's a little tearing on the side or maybe the lines are a little muddy they're just not as sharp as you want them to be and once i found diamond core tools that's it everything got very sharp crisp very professional looking plus the fact that i've been carving for 21 years so you figure if i only found them six years ago 15 years i carved with inferior tools many of you know i just had bilateral carpal tunnel surgery where i was out of work for almost two months couldn't use my hands but it was in pain for many many years before that i guarantee if i'd been using diamond core tools years before not saying i wouldn't have gotten carpal tunnel because that probably was coming no matter what but i have a feeling it would have been much better you know not as severe as it was so let me get my carving tools my favorite one and i'm going to get it out let's see if i can figure out where i put it yay can also adjust the thickness of the extrusion by using a screwdriver to loosen the tongue on the tool and lifting it up and down let's grab it okay so the ones that i extruded i thought were a perfect thickness i didn't have any problems i i would happily take this straight out of the box fix it thickness and use it if you wanted to change it you can loosen the screw on the side right here and change it up and i believe all the info you get some info on the sheet right so thank you so much for the the handle extruders they are amazing and i'm i i love them like i can't wait to use them on just about everything i can get my hands on so i'm going to do a carving demo now but i've got to get my tools out because i have tools that i'm very particular about when i carve now and one of my favorites is the l3 that's the small football large football that is my that's my go-to when i need a tool i also like the l1 the needle tools and i like the crown now the the p line of tools like the p1 is a good one the p12 here the v1 i'm sorry i think it's a v1 i've got a lot of tools to sort through so those are all some of my favorites and we're going to do this graffito now where we're going to scratch away and i've got some plates prepped so first you have to get your pieces ready if you're just starting out the first time you've ever carved i would highly suggest you make a bunch of little small plates like this there i won't say throw away but they're the kind of plates that if you mess up you're not heartbroken over as opposed to making a wheel thrown basket or making a big tr a bigger tray piece right so you struggle with carving groggy trays but you like them for other reasons do diamond core tools make it possible they are better for carving on groggy clay than other carving tools yes but if you're going to carve on groggy clay you're always going to struggle because the best clays for carving are smooth clays they can be light clays they could be dark clays but the smooth clays are the best all right so graffito is scratching through so we have to scratch through a layer of color to show the clay body that's how graffito works so on this piece here i applied a red iron oxide wash to the surface and then i carved through that and the white lines we are seeing are just the clay underneath that's it and so that's the theory behind this if you're using a white clay you want a darker slipper under glaze if you're using a dark clay you want a light slipper under glaze so a yellow or um a white now here's some scrafito i did where i used whatever color i wanted not not caring about that light on dark i used some bright clays i used some light pink and i just carved anyways and so there's different ways you can do scrafito but the traditional way is a scratching through and you can really see it in this piece here because you see all the scratch lines through that white slip on the dark clay so to set these up i decided we'd have fun with layering different colors i'm using speedball under glazes you could use anybody's underglaze i'm just going to use speedball because i love them and they work great so we're going to go with that i'm using their aqua their teal and their c blue are the three colors i'll be using today and the brushes that i have right here are the sumi brushes now this first one we're just going to do aqua and teal and i'm just going to brush the inside of this plate now you could just do the the rim look see this little guy right here i only carved the rim right that's it that's all so maybe we'll do one we'll just do a rim because i could carve that pretty fast for you guys this one i put this the under glaze on the entire piece and carved this pattern on it so it's really up to you what is my favorite sanding pad from diamond core tools i love the 120 grit i i like all of them but if i'm getting one grit it's the 120 because it's multi-purpose you can use it on bisque you can use it on finished wear whatever you want yeah it's a it's a great one it's a good multi-purpose one and you know diamond core tools has a bunch of sanding pads i like them all i think they're all spectacular all right so i've gone ahead and i've applied just a bit of the under glaze to the rim of this and then you have to let these dry one of the the big big things about carving your clay is the clay being the proper state of dryness if it's too wet it's going to mush if it's too too dry it's going to crumble a bit and you're going to create a lot of dust so these plates i made yesterday left them out they are a very firm leather hard but we're still going to add under glaze which will soften them back up so we'll have to wait again for them to stiffen up and be usable so let's do this and i'm going to do something crazy i'm going to do a crazy thing we're just going to do a blob of one color in the center i'm not worried if it's really even and this is just one one good layer i'm not doing multiple layers of colors although you could i would do two maybe you find the carving extremely satisfying i find it extremely satisfying too so the piece i showed that's the white slip on the dark clay would i have a glaze over the slip such as the leaves yeah you could do that susan um actually what i would have done is i would have painted the color i want the slips the leaves to be with a under glaze first and then carve the leaf shape along with the rest of the design but you could go ahead and add color after before you put a glaze on you could actually go back in and do a china paint if you wanted to so i'm doing this is the teal so i did the aqua and the teal keeping it keeping the blues happening here and i'm just making sure i have a good coverage really two coats two nice coats are all you need and then i think i'm going to go with sea blue sea blue is like a dark denim blue it's a really nice blue if you want a bright cobalt blue try speed balls royal blue if you're looking for that true blue and white look and you squeeze out my brush so you're liking the overhead camera with the picture in picture huh you can see it all so i'm going to layer these on top of each other and i'm letting them overlap you know you'll see a little bit of one color and the other color transitioning i want that that's kind of what we're after if you picked colors that were more of a gradient or you mix them so here i'm using the aqua to the c blue if i mix the aqua and the sea blue together in a little container creating a new color i could use that as a transition color so that i have this even softer gradient from one shade to the next that's all you have to do this the speedball we used this you know morning we did some staining and wiping back and we talked about the fact that they are completely mixable just like watercolor i mean that's how you treat it you treat it as a watercolor all right so we got these on looks cool as is you don't have to carve it but you do have to carve it because we're doing a carving demo right so let's grab we'll start with a simple one like this right here and i like to carve hold on i got a little little friend a piece of foam craft foam anything you have floating around i like to rest my pieces on that when i'm carving you know that way i'm not especially if it's a vase i'm not pressing it into a hard table or something and the the other thing i'm using is a piece of plastic because as we carve we're going to create all these little crumbs of clay and i want to be able to collect those crumbs so how did i keep my egg platter moist for carving a card everything for eight hours plastic my darling i had a big sheet of plastic with me draped over the piece and as i'm carving one little area the rest is covered in plastic i brush my crumbs i move to the next area and scooch my plastic around as you carve yeah you just keep it covered with plastic and that allows you to carve them i have spent two days on other pieces carving so you just just use plastic you'll be fine all right let's get these out of the way we're gonna carve this little baby guy now all of the diamond stylus line of tools are amazing i really love them all like i said the l3 is my favorite and wouldn't you know i had it yesterday and guess who misplaced it this girl so we are going to have to improvise and use the needle tool unless somebody wants to come look for my diamond stylus l3 it has a pink squishy on it so if you see it ran off with my color shaper all right can you come look for that thank you and i'll keep up i'm gonna do uh let's see what is china paint so china paint is over glaze enamel you put it on after you've completely glazed fired your piece and you fire it a third time and it's a whole it's like porcelain painting it's called all right so here we go we have a square going on here real quick step over here let me swap your mic oh my my sorry folks my mic is about to die week that's why we have our mic packs here because we do this kind of marathon broadcasting thing all right good to go sound on all right so when we have something like this and we want to do this graffito pattern the world is our oyster like we could do anything we want i feel like this sort of thing you know we have all these lines going i think we'll i think we'll do something sort of like this what do you think you want to do that so i'm going to use the needle i'm just trying to decide which one i want needle and crown maybe i guess i'll use the needle kevin's going to find my other tool but while he's doing that i'll use the little needle and crown carving tool just a sweet little baby you're looking for my l3 it has a pink foamy on it it's the small football large football it's probably going to be under down there in a jar or laying i might just toss it in there i don't actually know what i did with it anything is possible so i want to go ahead and highlight the line here where the side comes down and you'll want to have a stiff bristle brush nearby hey you want to grab me a stiff bristle brush if you see any down there or is that gone too look they've all run away because you want to be able to brush your line clean that isn't technically a stiff bristle brush but it's what we're using so i'm going to just carve a border on here and after i carve a bit what i'll do is i'll just brush this off and it's a bit of clay dust so what should we be doing we should be wearing a mask or do it outside preferably do both i usually do you know that's that's one of the things we have to consider so let's go ahead and do some freehand triangles and these are just freehand you know they might line up they might not they might not luckily they do now things like triangles and i know i know we're supposed to be doing a demo using the diamond stylus tool although you use what you want first graffito when i am doing lines like this more straight lines my go-to is something like this p12 you know the v-tip tool those sort of tools are so good for this because they draw your straight lines so well what i love about the diamond stylus line is they're great for more organic shapes so if you want to have curly cues and things like that which we do that's what you want to use so now let's go ahead and let's pull some straight lines so you're actually going to get more than you bargained for today because i was only going to show you how to use one tool instead i'm going to be using a lot more just pull your lines don't worry about them being evenly spaced you might think people are going to measure them and then complain to you that they are not evenly spaced they are not but if they do please ask them to leave because that's just crazy stuff so you see what we have going on on our simple simple border like that how does that how is it how is angle maybe i'll go this way so you all can see better so you see how this would go right we just keep following the triangles we made to begin with what is my fave the v or the u-tip i prefer the v-tip over the u-tip for carving patterns like this if i was going to be doing faceting the side or carving just simple texture on the side i think the u-tip is really fun so you just go around the outside with that one right and then you have lots of fun stuff happening in here so imagine we'll do the whole border we don't have time to do the whole border today but then you can come in with something like this and create a second pattern and that's where these shine because you can make the tiniest little curves so straight lines i go with the v-tip curved lines i go with the diamond stylus this is the crown and needle and then i can actually go in and remove even more material and i know it might be hard to see because they're tiny little lines but i'll show you a close-up in a second all right so we did that so we've got a double let me just see if i can get that up there can you all see that look at that look at the double line look look how i want to get really close see that's when we run into trouble because then i start trying to shove it up into the camera and the camera is like no there nope sorry everybody you know me i just gotta keep keep pushing so then on the inside here you know what are we gonna do here okay what are we gonna do we are gonna fill it with curly cues of course i can't do the whole thing curly cued right now because i have to do my other border before i know where to stop but you get the idea right you get it it's crazy good so i'll finish this and share that but i got the bigger one we got to get to the bigger plate right so there's a border very simple finished right here looks amazing with any of the under glaze colors you want to give it a try with and then now we're going to move on all these little crumbs that i've got in my plastic bag are going over here to my bucket of water and i'm just going to dump them into that to keep clay dust to a minimum this um gosh i don't even know what came in this bag i think a new pillow or something save everything classic this is i'm officially back this is what i know this is should we not have had a big announcement first time carving since carpal tunnel surgery what that's right it is this is my very first time carving since my surgery so we should have fanfare balloons i mean we're getting cake at eight so we're getting something it does not bother my wrists at all i'm having zero pain right now which is amazing so the tools want to zoom in on the tools um we'll do that after let me get this one and actually i could come a little closer hold on and get you right up in there get that in focus does that help a little bit all right so this one we did something similar to what we did with the square plate when we applied our under glaze i did three different colors kind of layered them in and i'm gonna do a carving and i'm just gonna i'm just gonna really have fun with it i'm gonna do something a little kind of crazy you see the scallop shape we've got going right here i'm going to mimic that scallop and i'm just following it and this plate i made with the diamond with the jar pottery forms triangles it's their new ones they're called their i don't even know what they're called guys help me what is this one called it's their soft triangle maybe is it called a soft triangle all i know is it's rounded corners instead of sharp corners and the outside shape is a cutter that dayla designs makes so that's where that came from and then we're going to come in here and we're going to remove a little bit more there so we've got a side going and then we're going to do this side and i'm just going in this angle for some reason this is the angle it's getting it's just how it's happening i'm doing this all free form i am not worried if one is fatter than the other if one is skinnier than the other not at all and you notice how the i'm using the crown end now it's fatter so i'm getting a bigger line right which is what i want now we have this part in here so i need to do a loop for that all right there we go i connected it i again i'm not worried if it's if they're the same shape and they match perfectly because this is a very organic design we're just having fun we're just carving a pattern and this is how i want you all to approach carving don't think it has to look perfect if you see somebody's carvings on instagram or on facebook and you're like and you try it and you can't get that and you're frustrated stop doing that just go ahead and get the tool make some shapes have some fun you know i have a lot of great beginner classes for carving that will get you started and then once you're going you'll you'll get more confidence and you'll just you'll just find your flow right it's called a plate yes it's a plate so i'm going to go in and do another loop so i left a little space and then now i have this here i got to do something with you notice i've been turning the tool around and using both ends so i can get fine lines and i can get really thick big broad lines so we're just going to go ahead and scratch away down some nice vertical lines try to get it so you can see how i hold it i hold it like like a pencil when i draw this is how i hold my drawing pens so it's very similar to drawing if you can doodle on a piece of paper you can carve a pot spherical triangle thank you that's exactly what it is spherical triangle but look at those lines we got in there look at the difference right so now we have another another row so i'm just going to continue on of course i got to do the other side but you know you continue on and i'm just going to go up to that bump and back down um yeah i guess i'm going to do it bumped to the middle of the top of each one right i don't know you know you you set up the plan in your head as what what they do like where they can meet and touch because that's really what we're doing it's like we're coming up with a little design it's kind of playing a little game like oh if i do this to this then i do that to that what if i add this line here what if i add that line there you know so you just keep going with it and i'm just going to flow with this design all the way to the end until i get it to where i'm happy with it so you know we're going to do this connection here and connect this one here it's going to go like that so you'll just keep going on with this and this needs a loop here see i didn't even know i was going to put a loop down there until just now when i realized it needed it so it's very intuitive when you carve it's you know it can be really spontaneous or it can be as planned as you want there are so many different ways to carve if you're somebody who likes things all planned out sketch out a design before you carve it on your plate and do that first so that's that's a pretty good that's a pretty good start we got a little time before uh we've got to go but name two or three favorite pieces um so two or three of my favorite carving tools so i would say um gosh look at that look at how great that's coming along it's gonna look totally different when it's done um i gotta show the folks on insta so you guys see it it's just started i still have so much more to carve and it will take me um probably another 30 minutes to finish that up so when you see people carving pieces just realize that they've made the pot but now they're spending an extra 30 minutes to eight hours carving that design on there so some of my favorite carving tools from diamond core tools and we can go over the handles again too quickly and then we have to go because we have clay scapes pottery joining us we're going to talk about raku firing kilns and all that goodness so the l3 small football large football diamond stylus tool that is my favorite carving tool it does graffito really well and it does mashima really well the needle tool the diamond stylus tool that has the needle in the crown that one is the one we just carved that with it's very good because you get a great big wide end and this teeny tiny fine end so it has that variable in it the small football large football one the l3 that one is the smallest tip is still not as tip as small as this tip makes sense so that one and then if i'm going to get a carver i really like the p12 straight tip carver that's the v1 that we were using straight v is what i got straight v on here so back to the handles you know the handle extruders if you need to know my favorite well here they all are so you can see them and let me zoom out if you're on the overhead still a little bit so that folks can i can get you all to see so i if i was going to get one i would go with the r9 and remember you can adjust these to make the depth deeper so you can get a fatter handle you know if you pick it up and you're like it's not beefy enough you can make it fatter so the r9 would be my number one to get if i was only going to get one if i was going to get a second one it would be a tough choice but i really like the r8 and then i i feel like there's a lot happening with this triangle which is the r2 and then there's that trapezoid one the r1 so i think if i was going to get two i might get the r1 and the r9 because they're different enough from each other to be very interesting this is more of a rim or foot if you just want handle ones and rim ones although you could do feet i'm thinking that would be the r9 the r five if you like sunshine's handles if you like a traditional pulled handle you're gonna want the r four so go look at the profiles i'm going to tell you they all pulled great first time out of the box you saw i'd never use them before ever and they pulled easy i might adjust the depth of a couple of them but honestly every single one of these handles i could happily take this handle and i would just smooth it down a little bit you know just from my handling it handling the handle i can't help it and i would use every one of these on a pot right now straight out of the box first time pulling you saw me do it so pretty easy awesome okay that's what we got you guys so after i finish carving what will i do with the piece i will clear well i will bisque fire and then i will clear glaze it that's what i will do so all of these these two i just i'm loving them both i think i have to do a swirly curly bit in the center of this one too and i got to finish them up so once you carve them after they're completely carved you don't have to cover them up to dry anymore you might want to go ahead and check your bottoms my foot has a little bit of crumbs so make sure you wipe the crumbs off your feet wipe your crumbs off your feet wipe the crumbs off your bottoms see this is wiping off the foot this is the bottom yep there's crumbs on my bottom smooth bottoms always here at clayshare wipe the crumbs off your bottom so that you can put your name on your bottom that's right folks that's what we got tonight alrighty so remember you can save 10 off diamond core tools dct jessica all capital letters been waiting to get some tools now's your chance to get them you have any more questions about it you can email me you get to midnight tonight and we will be back in about nine minutes with drew seymour from clayscape's pottery we'll talk about raku firing kilns and any other firing glaze questions you want to ask me all right instagram folks so is that the case for all of the diamond core tool
