everyone is Paul burger le reporting for Ave web and aviation consumer a little bit windy to be on the ramp today the airplane I'm sitting in the new diamond da 62 on the ground looks fast sleek sexy and expensive it is I first encountered what eventually became the da 62 four years ago in Europe and flew it in a test version when it was still called the da 52 now it's all grown up certified and a selling briskly for a twin the da 62 is the most refined variant of the original da 42 a diesel powered twin that found good sales in the training market the da 62 is unique for having up to seven seats and a pair of large gull wing doors for ingress and egress it's physically quite a bit larger than the da 42 with a three foot longer wingspan and a much wider cabin interior like the da 42 the da 62 has a large top hinge rear entry door for engines it has Ostrow a a330s which at 180 horsepower are the most powerful Ostrow yet I connected with diamonds Brent Eddington for a check out but first a quick walk around the da 62 is tall on its gear and the top of that T tail is a foot higher than the da 42 you'll need a ladder to see the top of it the airplanes are typically equipped with tks de-icing oxygen systems and bright efficient LED landing and position lights carbon fiber is used throughout in the construction and there's generous baggage space in the tube nose compartments at 5071 pounds the da 62 is diamonds heaviest airplane yet useful load is about 1,600 pounds we just taken off out of Plant City we've done some air work looting commend announced all we'll get to that in a minute her friend let's go over this airplane we did the walk around this is a significant air plane that the DEA 42 and if a lot of different and improvements and changes in the system let's talk about what some of those changes are sure absolutely we've we stayed with the 10 inch screens with the thousand so as you mentioned she's got longer and wider yeah if we were to earth to the VA 42 you and I would be shoulder to shoulder at this stage in the game that gives us the ability that little comfort in the on the flight deck the engines have gotten bigger on this airplane so they've gone from 168 horses on the DA 42 to 180 in that place and that that engine designation is a 33 30 on an 80 horsepower that continuous and would I think I was mostly done in the software there's no mechanical Daisy I mostly done in the software few tweaks in the fuel delivery system but yeah mostly a software management um so they've gone from the AE 300 terms of fuel capacity fuel capacity on board the airplane to 86 gallon 25 gallons in the mains and Gallants either side in the auxiliary tanks a considering we're cruising along here or 9,500 feet at 175 knots true bernie 7.5 precise 15 gallons so it's a lot of fuel and believe the youthful load is 1600 pounds at 1600 pounds if you factor out the fuel you still have a thousand pounds useful load on the airplane okay so in this airplane and just b-roll here of the seats and the sedation we've got six or seven feet except seven seats to the seats of the three seats in the second row and then two seats of them okay so depending on the weight of those people you can actually put people in those vents it's a it's a respectful useful load what we found is a lot of people that have been looking at this airplane er are I have two kids husband and a wife combination as well so as we carry a lot of luggage perfect this airplane will do exactly that for you the third row of seats becomes a cargo area configuration you'll put it up along with the cargo space that we talked about it the nose as well and it becomes a true family SUV as though it's been marketed and I agree with it how about CG on the airplane okay CFG very respectable range and when we get on the ground we can take a look at the the center of gravity side you could definitely load this airplane up and I'd be overly concerned with driving it to the apathy of G limit and the sparse engine management you've got me kind of giggling over here when I'm starting it up because it's so simple and I'll show some b-roll with this to to the start these engines you just moon the master on and push this big glorious silver button the engine sort of shakes a little bit although you barely notice it as running you do that on both sides and then for the run-up completely automatic there TAF Wayne a lane B and then hold the EP you push buttons and it runs through the automatic routine and that's it at that and we we filmed a engine shutdown which is equally simple it's a left-handed so okay so good speed wise we're looking good so when you're ready let a master switch opposition okay we're shutting down the left and the auto feather could put that engine a little bit of bank into the right and bring up the right power but 200 feet a minute align the headings in about the same zip code right here at 92% of power bank of engine flip on a rudder see what I can get out of it hey and be why I see is 87 87 shut up a little bit oh sure there's 500 feet present isn't it it's not too shabby Batman she's uh full of fuel on the mains and that ox is so so we got two minutes limits that's two minute limit okay so it'll restart okay so to restart bring the nose up just slightly bring her back to about 90 no okay hey in that dead engine throttle back to idle channel been idle okay and left engine master on Benjen on and the starter oh yeah there we go we'll run them off engine powers coming up right edge a little back and we're recovered perfect very easy well that you could do this and it's also got trick electrically adjustable rudder pedals please I mean we don't see that very often and airplanes but in an airplane to this class it is this airplane and now we get to the painful part which is it which is the standard price of his air plan 1.08 millions for the standard price point zero eight okay I thought a little higher that and that what options included so running down that electronic stability control is standard now a DSB in-and-out standard as well you're electrically controlled rudder pedals of course standard Herrmann g1000 all all the diamond trucks with the exception of the the DA twenty of the g1000 and a selective standard as well everything above that onboard oxygen air condition hadar for example tks those are all options to be added on and speaking of the autopilot and the havea Mike service it does have that below protection so william one outbid some steep turns and when you get above a certain bank angle you get pushback you get control pressure to feed you back towards thirty to be a degree back same thing on the pitch to kind of keep you out of trouble if you're not paying attention exactly yep it's a it's an airplane that is very docile as we talked about on the on the ground through the whole flight envelope including chronic stability protection to add with a safety
