progress and i got really insecure so i got a dump truck to show you guys my progress hi everyone welcome back to my channel my name is stephanie and today we are back with another gun today i'm excited because we've got a an array of mexican food that i'm super excited to eat we've got some elotes we've got um geez my brain is blanking i'm just like i think i'm focused on my dumbbell right built this dump truck and the one on my okay i'm growing a butt that's what i was trying to say this whole time like i'm trying to grow my butt i'm trying to get some muscle i'm trying to like be like ready for 20 21 summer are you guys getting prepped for 20 21 summer i don't think i'm going anywhere but i think i might post a bikini pic so i need to start prepping now and the way that i'm doing it is with built bar and i actually just ordered a new flavor that i have never tried before and i wanted to try it with you guys if you guys don't know about billboard i've been raving about them for quite some time now and it's amazing these are protein bars that don't taste like normal protein bars they don't taste disgusting they don't taste like oh is this just like cardboard they taste chocolatey i love the texture it's smooth it's creamy it's almost like a dessert but i don't want to say it's a dessert because it's full of protein so for example this white chocolate cookies and cream is 130 calories for 16 grams of protein which is insane i have tried so many bars and shakes and this is truly a guilt-free gluten-free low-calorie high protein snack for after you eat so let's try it after you eat how do you work out can you take my dump truck hey easy first of all love their packaging i can't believe i haven't tried this flavor yet i have to try the regular cookies and cream but whoa sir my milkshake does not bring the dogs to the yard [Music] is this my new favorite flavor delicious and they have 18 different flavors so i'm going to leave a link in the description so that you can get 20 off of your buildbot purchase and thank you buildbar for sponsoring today's video and where'd my dump truck go it's gone and let's get started wow these wings i don't know why they look so good they look so i feel like i've been having a hard time with wings i don't remember the last time that i got like some banging wings are they banging i'm waiting well these are these are really really something else okay band so good oh my god what's the flavor it's kind of sour tequila lime mm-hmm am i gonna get drunk they only had two flavors it was either this or diablo spicy and i knew diablo spicy would be the end of the night wow this is delicious wow okay so i love fish tacos i'm gonna go in with this baja fish taco i hope it's good because the shrimp tacos were two dollars more so i got the baja fish tacos but i actually wanted the shrimp oops whoa whoa so fresh really how do i eat it i feel like i'm going to eat it wrong i said don't you eat this with chips am i crazy can we be a little classier okay so today's story involves the lapd and i just want to put a quick disclaimer um i'm not really gonna go into depth on how i feel about the lapd because i live in la and i feel like that is enough on how i feel about the lapd and this story is crazy this one i don't even know bits [Music] what oopsie i lost my chip i got nothing holy cow hmm not even sure what to say that's so good so good why is everything so good wow grab one of these no one okay then wow wow this is too good i don't even know what to say i'm just kind of like in a place right now where bacon wrapped shrimp oh i haven't tried that i got to tell you is it good yeah okay i'm literally standing up for this hmm because that saltiness hmm [Music] you don't love it i don't love it cilantro rice so good so much better than chipotles cilantro rice yeah wow theirs is so good crazy okay i'm so sorry we're getting into the store what what why'd you just freak out stop we're just so extra you know wow holy cow i'm done bye i think i love you food really changes people i apologize because i feel like that was just 15 minutes of me moaning about the food and i don't know what came over me food just like does that to me sometimes i need to not like act so easy do you know what i mean today's story is about stephanie lazarus i actually was intrigued by this case because a lot of the times you know how like youtube recommends you stuff well mine is a really weird feed of just like food videos but also like interrogation videos and stephanie lazarus this one has kept coming up and i briefly watch it and i'd be like oh like i need to take a note like i know that i'm gonna like come back to this case i need to take a note but like for some reason i never wanted to cover this case because her name is stephanie and it bothers me i don't know why like she's so evil but her name is stephanie and i'm like you be it and it also involves the lapd which i live in la and i just want to say they are a very scary organization not sure i'm grocery but i also want them to look for me if i ever go missing so they do a splendid job in this case i don't know if it's a police cover-up i don't know if it's a love triangle gone wrong but it's just the weirdest thing i mean it all starts with an unsolved murder case that happened in van nuys los angeles about wow so many years ago the actual murder took place in 1986 but no one got arrested until 2009 like 1986 in 2009 so that's like 20 something 25 years later someone gets arrested 25 years later so for the next 25 years you can actually go down and see them acting like a free person like doing these things starting a family doing things that their victim could never do because they never got caught for it now i think what's weird is that when you look back at it i'm not saying it's a police cover-up i'm really not saying that i'm really really 100 not saying it's an lapd cover-up but it's just really odd that nobody found this out like it seems like such a straightforward case and people did not they just didn't investigate it so it all starts with a woman by the name of sherry rasmussen and i feel like i'm gonna say her last name wrong so sherry she i don't even know how to describe her other than just like this compassionate woman but like highly intelligent like this intelligent compassionate achieving woman like her entire thing in life was that she was like gonna grow up and she said that she was gonna change the stature of nursing nationally like that was her goal she wanted nurses to get treated better but to do better and she just she was all about that she graduated high school i believe she started college at 16 years old she became a nurse by the time she was 20 by the time she was 29 she was actually like the director of nursing at a glendale hospital which is a really really intense position to get like this is a highly coveted position and she was able to achieve that at the young age of 29 she was giving she was teaching classes at the same time she was giving like motivational talks to all the nurses and people loved her they said she knew all the answers to like everything she just was this really kind person who just always wanted to give back and give and give and give and that was like her thing i think it takes someone really really incredible to be a nurse i could never be a nurse i just like was not born with that okay so she's kind of got her whole life together and she's like okay i got my career i have all these things going for me but i kind of want to meet someone maybe i want to start dating and settle down and get married and so her good friend was like listen i started dating this guy he went to ucla he's got tons of friends and they're all cute and they're all like you know they got these degrees and you're going to love them like just just come out to a party it'll be fun if you don't like them what's the big deal you go home and so she's like okay fine so she goes to this party and she meets a man by the name of john rutin so he graduated from ucla and overall he just seemed like a really good catch he was an engineer he was incredibly sweet he's handsome and he took a liking to sherry so they immediately start hitting it off and they start dating and it just it gets really really intense he proposes so they move it together in van nuys together which is in the san fernando valley this is going to kind of come important later so they move into a condo in van nuys and he proposes and he does it in a non-traditional way so instead of getting her a diamond ring or any other ring he got her a car so sherry's really practical she's like listen i don't think i need this ring like i'm always working i always have gloves on i think it'd be much more practical for you to get me a car so that i can drive to work and drive back and it just seems like more money or more bang for the buck and so he was like yeah i mean that's amazing like i think this is why i'm marrying you so he gets her this beautiful bmw for their engagement he's like thank you for like marrying me here is your present and she loves you that car yeah be my woman be my woman man that's good [Applause] [Laughter] it's so good dude you should go work at a bmw yeah oh my god bmw should literally use that as their slogan right my wife and so he got her a bmw and she loved it now this car becomes really important to the case later so they get engaged and sherry's like okay like now we're prepping for this wedding this is a new chapter of my life like imagine how exciting it is and one month into their engagement he gets a call out of nowhere and it's this woman hysterically crying over the phone just like balling her eyes out it sounds like someone's dying and so she's like okay like what's going on and he's like listen it's my friend from college she's kind of freaking out about something she wants she asked if i could come to her place i'm a little worried about her like i'm just gonna drive over there and make sure everything's okay and she's like yeah yeah absolutely like i said sherry is this really compassionate person so it didn't seem like sherry would have a problem with it and so he drives on over to his college friend's apartment and he walks inside and she's like listen john this sounds like a movie and it's not she's like listen john i've loved you my whole life and i need you i don't want you to get engaged i heard from a mutual friend of ours that you're engaged and i want you to know that i love you and he's like okay thanks but i don't love you like i love sherry and i'm gonna get married and so she was like but i want you to do me and he was like okay and so they do it that night and this because i know so that be my wife thing so this becomes really important later i'm not gonna i'm not gonna kick john written down when he's already gonna be down in the dirts later but like this is really forked up okay so they do it then he goes back home and he acts like it never happened he was just like oh my friend just needed something like it's totally fine what he failed to tell his wife is that or not wife but like you know fiance it said this is his ex-girlfriend from college so let me rewind to john written's college days okay so he went to ucla and he was studying engineering but he was also playing basketball at the same time and so he was around a lot of outgoing athletes and it was just fun right and one of those being stephanie lazarus yeah [ __ ] stephanie dude and so she went to ucla she was also doing basketball she was known to be very popular and outgoing and just really well loved and so they start kind of like it's not really dating i wouldn't even say it was like they were just sleeping with each other they didn't sleep with each other until after they graduated so it's just like they're kind of in that phase of like what are we nobody knew that they were dating nobody knew that they were doing anything like nobody knew anything it seemed like john was just kind of enjoying her company maybe not maybe but stephanie would do a couple of weird okay so they're just friends it's like just friends but it seems like they're probably like making out and stuff like that's the vibe i'm getting you know like they're always kind of together but then if you ask john he's like oh no you know but then like if i were to pull stephanie aside i'd be like hey like what's going on she'd probably be like yeah like we're gonna get married same like same i'm gonna marry someone they don't know yet but like it's gonna happen um so they're kind of like doing that now i don't know how this information i think it was through the book but i don't know how this information got out there but apparently stephanie would do some weird books well there's a book called the lazarus files which is really extensive i went into some of that book to get some of this research but that's a big behemoth of a book okay it's a big big book it's a big book it's a big boy it's a big boy it was a lot it was a lot it was a lot but somehow there was information online that while they were going through this phase stephanie would do like weird things like as he was showering she would just steal his clothes so he'd be like hey i'm gonna pop into the shower and she'd be like okay cool and then just like shove his clothes into her bag she wants him to walk out like say hello i see maybe it's that maybe she's like taking it home to like sniff his sweaty socks off her head skip ahead let me if i'm serious like i don't know like i couldn't find an explanation of why she was doing this maybe she thought oh like if i steal his clothes then he can't leave my dorm because he can't leave naked like i genuinely was trying to do some mental cartwheels but i mean they're in the same dorm and he's showering yeah i don't know maybe it was like a hehe joke maybe she's just a little jokester so there's that she would also do these things where she would take pictures of him while he's sleeping now this one this one's weird okay i feel like this is a situation where if john was in love with stephanie this could be almost seen as romantic but because he didn't feel that way about her it's seen as very creepy okay it's just creepy dude don't do that don't do that don't do that until they tell you they love you first don't do that i don't even think pictures hit him in his sleep sometimes i'll record you snoring you don't believe me you don't believe me i tell him that he snores and he doesn't believe me and i'm like i need i'm taking so many pictures of stephanie sleeping so many oh my god i'm gonna expose you one day there's just so many of them it's because i sleep with my mouth open and he thinks it's comical it's so funny so she would like take pictures of him sleeping so it's just kind of weird now he never really told anyone about this relationship like i said and he didn't really think anything of it they graduated they do it a couple times here and there and he didn't even tell her that he got engaged like that's how little he thought of her like he didn't he didn't think that she was a friend to be like hey like guess what like amazing news right he didn't do any of that but she's still obsessed over him i mean it seems like it because he always treated it super casual he was constantly always talking to other girls while he was sleeping with her even after they graduated and it's not like he was hiding it from her i mean she knew that this was not exclusive but stephanie didn't take it the same way like she prepped and did a surprise party for his 25th birthday and he's like one of those really sad relationships really sad just really really sad okay and she just was like really obsessed with him and she found out through a college friend that he got engaged she broke down at this point they hadn't even talked in years and she completely broke down called him crying asked him to come to her apartment to like explain you know and then that's what happened so they get married life goes on right he doesn't really hear from stephanie like maybe here and there i can't really find any evidence if they continued an affair it doesn't seem like it but um i don't know so they kind of like drift he gets married and it seems like everything's going great they're like newlyweds to the point where he was overly romantic it's like the phase where you're like oh that's too much like for their three-month anniversary of their wedding he gave her three roses one for every month that they've been married and everyone just said if you go to their house their condo in van nuys it's just like too much like they're holding hands and they're like no you sit john like i'll go get the tea you know like that type of relationship it just was really really really lovey-dovey so the day of the murder john wakes up super early because yeah he looks shocked i know so um it gets even worse this this case is gonna infuriate you this one really infuriated me this is where it starts to get really serious so the day of the murder john wakes up early because he has to like i think drop off dry cleaning before he gets to work so he leaves and he's like sherry are you gonna be okay so she had called out from work that day like how long did you get married at that point like three months oh what so she caught out sick that day and he was like are you gonna be okay like just call me if you need anything and she's like yeah i'm totally gonna be fine she was in her bathrobe and so he leaves he was gonna come home around 6 p.m and just take care of his wife it doesn't seem like anything crazy was going on so he leaves and then during the day from um different sources i found one saying that he was getting calls throughout the day at work from neighbors being like hey like someone left your garage open like i think your wife left and because the car is not there but like the garage is open and then some people were saying that that didn't happen and that he just was trying to call her but she wasn't picking up the phone but either way again he wasn't really freaking out about it like nothing really happened and so he gets home at 6 p.m the garage is open her car is gone she hasn't been picking up the phone all day so he's like okay this is weird he goes into the apartment and it's just it's so bad like this crime scene is so bad like there was there was blood all over the walls um the first thing that he saw actually was sherry so she was laying in the living room and she her face had been so badly beaten that you couldn't necessarily recognize her but he knew it was her so it seemed like someone had beat her on the face like very angrily she he didn't even notice that she was shot in the chest three times because of all of the damage that was done on her face and he was just freaking out there was blood spot around the walls she had um a bite mark on her inner arm like bite marks here right and i'm gonna get into that okay so he sees all of this he immediately calls the police and people said that when you saw cause some neighbors came by he was freaking out when you saw john he didn't look like it wasn't faked like it was really sad they said he was like a deer in headlights he looked so traumatized he looked devastated like i can only imagine they call the police the police get there and they start investigating immediately because this is a brutal brutal murder sheri was only 29 years old she had this entire life ahead of her she's a nurse she's the director of nursing i mean this woman is just known for being so compassionate like why would someone do this to her like what if we need to get to the bottom of this is what i hope the lapd was thinking and so they get there they start investigating and they realize you know it kind of looks like a burglary but it doesn't but they personally are like this is a burglary but like there's things i can see why they would see that but a lot that i don't so a lot of the living room was ransacked the tv console looked like it had been tipped over there were drawers that had been pulled out the tv itself looked like it was in the process of like being unhooked like someone was going to like haul the tv out of there so on their staircase i know and then everyone's like someone can stole my tv you stupid bits i don't know it's like maybe um they also said that on the staircase there was um like a stereo so this was 86 so they had like those you know stereo systems that are pretty pricey so that was like stacked up and unhooked near the stairs like that's not a normal place where john would keep it and john's claimed that's not where he had it so it kind of looked like someone was like organizing things to put it into a pile like we're gonna take this before we go and maybe they didn't realize that sherry was home so that was their theory other things that confirmed this theory was that her car was missing i mean you're talking about a bmw they probably used it as a getaway vehicle i mean it makes sense her purse had been missing they later found the purse though but it was inside of the condominium units like there was like a little garden patch in the gated neighborhood and they had just tossed it out the window on their way out and all of her wallet and stuff were there so it was a little strange so she had a jewelry box and that was completely left untouched now a couple things that were missing other than that was her marriage certificate to john which is a really weird thing to take guys you can't even open a bank account with a marriage certificate like it's not even like you're trying to do identity and that's something john probably point out right because yeah who would have known that yeah like who would know that where do you keep your marriage certificate and so they were just like this is a little bit weird but it matches the theme of a burglary because in van nuys there was a lot of burglaries around the time and in l.a homicides were going up so they were like this is just a city situation of another burglary they thought that she wasn't home she comes downstairs and she's like what are you guys doing and they confront her and they're like what do we do we gotta kill her so they get into a struggle maybe the bite mark because i was dead set on the bite mark that's really weird like no one has to kill someone in a burglary but let's say they do why would you bite them that seems like a very personal thing to do so they're saying no no it's probably because as you're struggling like this maybe they want you to let go so they'll reach over and bite your arm so that you like let go of something so they think maybe it was like that because it wasn't like on her thighs that would be a completely different story so they thought maybe it's that there was no other signs of any other things other than a lot of damage blunt force trauma on her face her head and the three shots to the trust and then they left so then like a week later there was another attempted burglary in van nuys and they're like see african toads it's a burglary so they get all of these people together and they're like hey what does this person look like and they all described two latino men they're like they look like this so they're like okay that's the person these are the two men who murdered cherry we're gonna go find these men wait so there was a burglary a week later yeah and there were boys before there wasn't murder no so people saw those two burglars face yeah i see so it was like maybe like witnesses saw it um there was a woman who i think she was like assaulted while she was getting like robbed i'm not sexually but i think they like had hit her and she had seen their face so she gave the description as well so it was always like the same two latino men now i i don't think that i do think that they were burglarizing people but i don't necessarily would tie them to sherry's case but they were like this is the same thing like it's gonna be the same these are murderers we need to catch them so they're dead set the lapd is dead set on this burglary thing even before they start questioning sherry's family and everything they're like this is a burglary gone wrong so sad but let's still talk to john let's still talk to sherry's family because that's what we get paid to do so they bring in john and he had an airtight alibi they said that he was again like a deer in headlights he didn't necessarily seem guilty now a lot of people will think otherwise because um well because he kind of just like dips like he just leaves so he's not necessarily the same type of person that you would see in a lot of these cases where the husband when they're innocent they will go to the ends of the earth for their wives you know they will be camping outside that police station advocating making facebook groups right but john wasn't really like that he just kind of he just kind of like left like he just didn't he didn't really advocate for her case to be solved he didn't really publicly address it or plead the press to help catch these people who did it he just kind of fell under the radar now so it's like up to sherry's parents so they both live in arizona her dad is a dentist and they came down to la and they were like just hounding on the police like they were sherry's number one advocates and i'm sure a lot of people were really upset with john for doing that but i think maybe it has to do with the fact that i don't know like i bet those are really complex emotions like people are upset that john wasn't yeah out there like but like what i'm thinking is when i feel like i [ __ ] up i find it really hard why does why would he think he [ __ ] up because he slept with someone else and nobody knew about that but why i shouldn't have anything to do i know but maybe like he feels dirty i guess i don't know like i think maybe like i'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt and maybe it's a situation where he's like i don't even think i deserve to like be advocating for this right now when i don't know for something like this serious yeah that's it i don't know it's weird it's like another thing i guess it's another thing to like post on facebook like love my wife so much after you've done something like that but like yeah so he just kind of like disappeared he just fell off the radar so a lot of people were upset by that um a lot of sherry's friends primarily but also a lot of like the public opinion was kind of like where'd he go why does he not even care and he doesn't even want to bring attention to this case so shari's family they get interviewed not all of her family though that's another thing why people were so upset with the lapd so her parents they demand to talk to the police but the police didn't necessarily go and investigate every corner of sherry's life like sherry's sister was one of the last people to see her alive and they didn't even ask her for anything they didn't even question her they didn't even say hey did she mention anything like the day before she was murdered to you because you were one of the last people to see her alive like they didn't even ask sherry's sister even though they knew that she was one of the last people to see her alive so it just seems like really shitty police work right so the parents kept saying listen i don't know her name but she's an lapd officer and this is john's ex-girlfriend that's what our daughter kept telling us his ex-girlfriend is an lapd officer and she's been doing some crazy stuff and they're like okay what has she been doing and she they're like listen she one day she like showed up at the house um the apartment that they shared together wearing this like really provocative outfit with her skis like skiing down like the slopes and was asking john if she could wax her skis oh my gosh and so obviously sherry's like okay like who is this oh this is your ex-girlfriend like i don't really feel comfortable like you know like the way that she's dressing and this is a really random request i don't want her to think that this is something you're gonna do all the time right and so she asked if he could say no but he didn't and he waxed her skis so then he goes to work a couple days a really really odd thing to do yeah like hey open this jar like what are you doing okay like why anybody do it to do it like if your ex-girlfriend called and she was a mess and she was like listen i'm going on a ski trip with my friends tomorrow and i don't know anybody else who can watch some skis i'm going to need you to help me i think i'd be more chill about it but the fact that it was so random and she came in like with a booby booby outfit to the place like without even calling first like can you ask me like and so she just felt like she was really thrown off by it but then it got worse so the skis were waxed and john had to go to work right so he's off to work a couple days later and sherry's home and this is when john's like hey i think stephanie's gonna come by and pick up the wax skis and she came in like decked out in her lapd uniform just really aggressive and was like getting the ski so sherry's like this is a completely different person like one day she come in like all booby booby and now she's like trying to be all aggressive instead of like i can't even wax my skin she's like look at my gun bits you know like it's just what is going on like are you trying to play like a mind game with me like okay like maybe you're on your way to work like here are the skis she didn't really like make a big deal about it because sherry's a really good person and just was like here bye she also told her dad that someone kept following her and she couldn't tell who it was but it looked like they had these wild crazy eyes now if you look at a picture of stephanie lazarus i mean like the first thing you're going to notice is her eyes like she got those crazy eyes how does she think someone's following her like she knows the eyes so like she kept saying like she was telling a bunch of other people too that someone kept like wearing disguises like these big hats and it's like she would look around quickly and you know how usually the first thing you see are the eyes and they would just like be covering their face or something or they'd be like going like this and like looking at her and she would just constantly feel like are they following me like i feel weird about this they keep glancing at me like she would be at the store she'd be at the gym and this person would be there and she told her friends it almost felt like a woman trying to dress as a man following her like doing a disguise right not anything else just like straight up a disguise so she's like this is so strange so then they started interviewing all of her co-workers now they interviewed the co-workers not because they thought they wanted to know about you know john's ex-girlfriend but they actually interviewed because they wanted to see if this was like a work situation she had actually just recently gotten this new position and someone else i don't know if they got demoted or fired her hospital um colleagues sherry's colleagues you know and the person's position that she took i don't know if they were demoted or fired but there was some bad blood going on so they're like do you think it could be that and all of them all of the colleagues all of the fellow nurses and doctors when they're interviewed they're like no i mean they had some fights but it wasn't that serious but but there was this one woman i think she's an lapd officer because sometimes she would come in and uniform and she was crazy like she would come up in here and start yelling at sherry while shelley's in her sherry's in her scrubs like trying to help people stay alive and she would say things like oh just you wait when your marriage is over like i'll be the one to pick up the pieces and obviously all of her colleagues are like you don't talk to my colleague like that get out of this hospital right so they distinctively remember this happening multiple times one time she came in and was like you know we did it right like just pretty much told sherry that her and john had sex to try to break them up and this has been confirmed because john did confirm that sherry came to him and was like hey your ex-girlfriend came to my workplace first of all super unprofessional second of all she told me that you guys did it and he confessed everything she decided to forgive him and they proceeded on with their marriage so nobody really filed a report nobody did anything about it and then this took place they tell the police all of this and they all collectively say yeah no i think it was really a burglary for sure because those are technically stephanie's colleagues yeah so at the time that this takes place she was a patrol officer they call it like a po um so she's like low ranking she's not even a high ranking officer she's not like a detective or anything why do you think they would do that so the problem is did they investigate her no even though many people yep nobody questioned her really they just were like hey did you date someone named john written she was like oh yeah in college and they're like oh yeah like his wife was murdered oh that's crazy so this is when cherry's family is freaking out because they don't believe the burglary theory they're like this doesn't make any sense why wouldn't they take any of our stuff really like it just it almost feels like someone set it up to look like a burglary gone wrong but they weren't intelligent enough like they were just like this will do i'll just unplug a stereo and put it next to the door like are you kidding me like what is your deal and so they keep going to the police shari's dad kept going to the lapd to the point where one of them looked at him and said listen you watch too much tv it's a burglary gone wrong and he was like what the [ __ ] so the parents are like okay like what do we do nothing we do is connecting with the lapd they won't even investigate they were like listen you have fingerprints you have dna saliva taken off the bite mark we will pay for any dna testing if you need it like we don't want you to pay use taxpayers money or any resources we will pay for everything and they were just like no we don't want to do it because it's a burglary gone wrong sorry and they also put up a ten thousand dollar reward the parents like they were doing all of this and the police were doing nothing then the case goes cold they never even found those two men that were suspected of burglarizing van nuys at the time i don't know if they're innocent i don't know if they're guilty i don't i know that they're not guilty of this murder but you know you get it and so they never find those two men and then 2001 hits and they're like listen we need to solve some cold cases that was like the whole plan they set up this entire unit in los angeles that was just dedicated to solving cold cases now they kind of marketed it in a way marketed they kind of said it in a way that was like hey we're doing this because like we have resources we have dna testing available but it genuinely seemed like it was in a way where they were like hey let's just close as many cases as possible so that our closed case like ratio goes up you know what i mean so like let's make it happen so that was kind of the thing so a lot of dna testing was done and one of those was from the saliva of the d like the bite mark on sherry's arm now in 1986 you wouldn't even think that saliva on a bite mark could be used as dna this is really important you would not even think that there are so many things where we are leaving evidence everywhere and in 20 years we're gonna be like i got caught because i [ __ ] did what that is that would be kind of fascinating right right from this point on everything you do yeah like forget about like dna like cameras i don't know like it's gonna be just the the way ai and data works i feel like they're like just based on this person's internet behavior yeah boom you're the you're the murderer it's crazy yeah so they didn't even know in 1986 to put in perspective the police department didn't even know that this could be used as dna evidence but like the pathologists who were there they were really good about like taking all this evidence they put it in a little vial they put it in a little envelope 2001 comes they're like let's open some cold cases and they run the dna on that now there was a lot of weird stuff that happens going forward so they realize that the dna on this is not a male it's actually a female so this completely contradicts the burglary theory because we were looking for two latino men but now this is saying it's a female so what's that theory hobbits and so they're like okay like what do we do so the criminologist her name is jennifer she brought this to the lapd and was like y'all need to open this case again because this is a female you need to investigate everyone in her life that was a female because this is a bite mark from a female and that's when the lapd looked at her and said oh yeah i was probably like a couple then like a bonnie and clyde situation like it was probably like a female male robbery duo and she's like what are you saying like i what are you saying like that doesn't even make any sense and they were like yeah don't don't even worry about it like it's fine and they just completely ignore it so they just put that into storage again they don't really do anything about it and then 2009 comes around yeah i know i know so then 2009 comes around and a bunch of people were a bunch of police officers on their free time they were looking into cold cases two of them their detective jim and detective pete and they open up this file and they start looking into it and they're like okay like this is weird because it's you know the dna of a female it was supposed to be burglary so this is just all sorts of [ __ ] up so they're reading it and they see a bunch of names and they're like wait a [ __ ] minute stephanie lazarus i know her she's actually married to a guy in my unit the detectives are like her husband is a detective and he works in our precinct she is a detective now at this point stephanie lazarus was no [ __ ] patrol officer okay she had a spotless pristine successful career in lawns for enforcement she had not one little mark on her she did not have one disciplinary action done to her which means like you forked up like none of that she's never late but what is she just she's a detective she was a hybrid husband is also a detective so her husband was a detective in their unit but she was a detective in the art theft unit because yeah los angeles they have a unit dedicated to art theft and burglaries and like all of that like art crime i don't even know what that means okay like if you fake a picasso stephanie lazar is going to be knocking on your door like their own little department yeah so she was now a detective at the art theft department and she was um this is a high profile unit meaning that anytime they bust like a massive art bust stephanie lazarus is doing interviews she's gonna be there's pictures of her in front of like i don't know like paintings i don't know if they're fake paintings or it's a theft painting i don't know there's pictures of her in front of paintings okay she looks weird so um and i'm only making fun of her looks because she's genuinely evil i feel like that's the only time we can and so um yeah so she's like this high profile detective and if you look at our history you would never think that this woman could possibly murder someone because she's a thyroid cancer survivor she married another detective she um adopted a little girl so they're having this amazing family she's the type of neighbor where she would make handmade soaps and pass them out to all of her neighbors for christmas like handmade soap bars like a small business like you know those cute little decorative soap bars great yeah she'd pass them out during christmas time she organized and fundraised to have daycares for lapd like moms oh wow wait so she didn't get together with um no like she volunteers all the time she has never had one bad thing on her record so both jim and peter looking at this and they're looking at each other like but even in the notes of the original case file she had p.o next to her name which is a thing that they knew immediately meant that she was a patrol officer so they write pio i guess if the person that they're writing down notes about is like a police officer right so they're like okay like there's no way there's also five other females that were listed as potential suspects like hey this is the person that she was having trouble with at work this is this lady so they start interviewing these people so many years down the line like 25 years down the line so three of them had airtight alibis the other one was like take my dna like i did not do that like take my dna so they took her dna and it wasn't a match so it's like okay like we just have one name on the list unless it's completely random which it's usually not we gotta look into stephanie lazarus like we gotta look into one of our own like finally after this many years they're the first lapd officers are like we should probably investigate our own so they take this to the robbery and homicide unit which is probably the most high profile like they take care of all of the intense important cases in los angeles county right and that is in the same building as um the commercial crimes which is the art theft division like literally right across the hallway so they're like okay we're just gonna like calmly walk in there and then we only tell one more person i think it was like five police officers who knew about this because they didn't want word getting out and so like in police in internal investigation it's like so super secretive wow because i'm sure there's so much like loyalty in the police department like because you know i think it's one of those things i'm just trying to think psychologically like if you are partners with someone and you've like put yourself in danger and you trusted this person with your life like there's got to be some sort of like crazy loyalty bond there and so if that word gets out like you feel inclined to tell them so there was only like four people yeah so busting another cop how does that make them look in there oh it's bad it was behind at the end they had to like come out with a statement that was like uh this does not directly reflect all of us what yeah they were just like uh she was she was her being a cop to like do really bad things but like we're all really good people no i'm just saying no i'm saying these two who busted how do other cops look at them do they think oh good job you guys so i think my opinion these could be really amazing people but i think it was made a little bit easier that the probably the original detectives on the case were probably retired at this point 25 years down the line right i think it's one thing to like go against what other detectives are saying and be like no you don't think it's her but i'm gonna do this investigation anyway i feel like that's like so much friction and maybe it's hard to do but like psychologically speaking it's such a cold case that i think it was more widely accepted that they could go after one of their own yeah because you know we can't deny that there is like a camaraderie going on and so they take it to the robbery and homicide division and they're like telling these like one or two more people they're like we gotta investigate like how do we do this obviously we can get a warrant for her dna but i mean like she's got her own officer weapon her husband has weapons like oh this could be really bad maybe she could run and here's another thing cops love to get confessions they love to get on tape and they don't want her to immediately lawyer up they just want to do this in the best way possible so they start putting surveillance on her for like weeks and finally finally at a [ __ ] costco she throws away a coffee cup and they're like a sample coffee oh my god get that coffee cup so they go into the trash after she leaves and they bring it into dna testing and it's a match it's like a one and like a bajillion match like they always have like a number for it and i never know what it means it's like 500 quadrillion they're like a one in 500 quadrillion chance that it was you know stephanie like what are the odds it's stephanie for sure and so they get the coffee the dna is a complete match now what makes it even worse as they're digging in the records they find that um she had the weapon that had the same bullets as what was used to kill sherry so technically any revolver like a bunch of different revolvers could use this bullet but it just was weird that during the time that her officer appointed weapon was one that used these specific bullets what makes it even weirder is that two weeks after sherry's murder she went to the santa monica police division and said hey i'm a police officer and my car has been broken into and someone stole my um police gun so i just want you guys to know she filed a report there but never reported it to her own division which is really odd but she did make a report but never to her own department which just seems really weird why would you i mean maybe you can make a report in both departments but it still seems odd what makes it even worse is the three days of shari's murder so the day of sherry's murder and like a couple afterwards she had requested off it wasn't just like naturally happening on her schedule she was requested off so they thought this was weird she wasn't on call or anything so the detectives they want to question her now there's two problems like two major hurdles with this the first being that she always has her you know police gun on her and they don't want her to be armed because you just never know like imagine being a police officer in prison like that's going to be really bad so maybe you're like whatever i'll just take everyone down with me right and so they're like we need to get her in a place where we don't raise her suspicions but we get the gun away from her the one place is the basement jail so when you interrogate people you have to check in your badge and or your gun you can't bring it into the interrogation room because they could steal it from you or maybe you're just a really nasty cop and you'll get angry and just shoot them right and so they're like you need to check in your weapon so they came up to our desk and they said hey so um we caught a suspect and he says that he knows something about you know your little art theft going on in beverly hills i don't know if it was beverly hills sounds like it'd be beverly hills you know in beverly hills and she's like really yeah and he says he's gonna make a deal if if you can give him one so she's like all right well let's go [ __ ] going in on her and so she's like all right and they start walking down they get into the elevator and he's like so how's your day and she's like good good you know is this the tape you watched yeah when we get downstairs so they didn't even um use the interrogation tapes like they put a hidden camera in like a work bag and just placed it on the table so it's literally like right in front of her like usually interrogation tapes are in the corner of the room like a cctv and you watch like the overall body language but this one was like right here so they really want to get that what yeah footage for whatever reason yeah but they also needed to do that because they couldn't use the interrogation footage unless they read her her miranda rights but this one they can use it because they had a warrant for surveilling her so this would be entered as evidence of surveillance oh yeah so it's like a technical i guess it's like paperwork driven and so they get her into the basement she checks in her batch she or her gun and she starts walking in with them into the interrogation room and so there's two detectives there she sits down and they immediately ask do you know a john rooten and she looks ah yeah i know john rutin this whole interrogation tape i'm going to link it in the description because it's the most mind-boggling [ __ ] ever okay so first of all she's got those crazy eyes and she makes a lot of facial expressions i know some people complain that i make a lot of facial expressions think 20 times more than me 20 times just sure any question they ask she goes golly the first like 30 minutes of it are just them trying to ask do you know john written do you know what happened to his wife do you know his wife's name like very simple basic questions and the whole time she's going wait what year is it now okay so if it's 2009 i graduated gee what oh god that was like a million years ago um okay so 2009 is right now i graduated i want to say 86 no no i think it was 86 and i i'm pretty sure i met john maybe like gee i know like two years two years before i graduated what's this about guys what's this about i mean that was a million years ago what's this about and so they're like listen we're just gonna you know we're looking into some cold cases we just wanted to ask you some questions your name came up in one of them and obviously we wanted to give you the courtesy of not doing it upstairs you know you know how they all do they're just to talk and so she's like you know yeah i appreciate it but guys you know it's a million years ago and they're like okay well um did you guys date i i can't even say i mean i dated a lot of people i mean i wasn't a floozy she straight up says that what's up like a like a like a hoe she's like i mean i wasn't a floozy you get it but um okay so ucla we probably shared the same dorms um oh yeah his sister his sister she like went to northridge i think her brother went where did her brother where did his brother go yeah but like i'm sure maybe i think i had slept over once maybe he maybe he's stuffed a man i mean guys it was a million years ago guys chi golly there's a million years ago guys sometimes i kept getting swept up in it where i was like going along with her story and i was like wait a minute what did they ask her and she's like how long have you known him for and she's like i got my scuba diving license and you're just like what is happening and she's just like like this is literally her they will ask her how do you know john rutten for example they're like how do you know john roon and she's like gee golly that was a million years ago where was i in 86 i remember i lost my house to the earthquake i moved to simi valley i got my scuba diving license but gee golly i can't remember that was a million years ago why is she like that is that her tactic or it seems like it it seems like it so if you guys don't watch on youtube there's um a channel called jcs criminology and they're known for like literally um analyzing the psychology of interrogation videos so there's like points where they'll ask her what's john's name like john's uh wife's name and asked her about that and she was like she's like she looks like she's fake thinking and then they ask her the third question so the first question was have you ever met john's wife and it looks like she's fake thinking and then they asked her like what was john's wife's name and she's fake thinking and then they ask her do you know like what she did for a living and then her facial expression changes why so it seems like she genuinely was trying to think about that one so it's so interesting because that when she's acting like oh i don't even know this girl's name like at one point she was like was it shelley was it shelley oh i see you know was it sherry was it sheila buff like she was just like it's like you know it's sherry come on and finally about like an hour of just her going gee golly and like rolling her eyes and that was a million years ago right there they asked her for a dna sample and she says no i mean this is ridiculous like at this point you know i'm thinking you guys are trying to set me up you guys are trying to frame me and i'm thinking i need an attorney and they're just like listen if you can just give us a dna sample we'll be completely fine and she's like well let me get my attorney and they let her walk out for some reason and then they bring her back in before she can go out and then they arrest her and they read her her rights so she goes right so that was it the interrogation because the dna evidence was such a solid match so there is a lot of um debate whether so some people think that her interrogation was so shitty that that she just fell apart right now other people say that she didn't necessarily hurt her case like if they didn't have such clear-cut dna then necessarily the interrogation tape she didn't admit to anything i mean obviously it would have been better if she had gotten an attorney right off the bat but there wasn't anything too damning other than just like the social aspect of like you look like you're guilty right like there was no other like there was no crazy smoking gun like they didn't catch her in like a crazy crazy life so um they arrest her and her bail was set at 10 million dollars which is a lot a lot more expensive than a lot of um bails that were set for very very rich and powerful people in los angeles who were also on the hook for murder yeah so there was a lot of drama about that a lot of drama but i think they were just trying to make a point because you know they arrested one of their own so they're like hey we're not trying to be lenient on her even though we were for 25 years but like suddenly we're not going to be so they set it at 10 million her trial started and this is where the witnesses started pouring forward so the first witness was actually a fellow patrol officer at the time who was her roommate when john got engaged she remembered distinctly that she was waking up in the middle of the night by stephanie she was just like hey can you wake up and she woke up and looked at her and was like hey so like my ex-boyfriend just got engaged and i really need some emotional support right now and just like stayed up with her crying so they're like okay like this is really weird so it shows that she was really really forked up by that engagement news then we had her bragging to a bunch of other patrol officers at the time that she had learned how to pick locks they also checked her house why in the world yeah in her current house she had two books on professional block picking like locksmithing not lock picking lock smithing right on top of that she had actually sent a letter to john's mother when she found out about the engagement saying this is stephanie lazarus and i'm in love with your son and i am devastated that this is happening so again it just goes to show she was really [ __ ] up by this like she really really cared it wasn't just like oh this is my ex-boyfriend so the jury takes all of this information in and they find her guilty now here's where it gets weird i mean she's trying to actively appeal this i think um the last time i checked she was appealing it because she's saying like the evidence doesn't make sense so there was an issue with the evidence being stored so they store it in like a vial like a test tube right and then they put it into like a an envelope now the envelope was torn like it ripped a little but like nothing happened to the test tube yeah but they were trying to argue like you know it was messed up there's no way you can 100 say it wasn't altered or it wasn't tampered with and on top of that they were also saying that there was i think like um a log was missing of where the evidence was so you need like a precise log of where the evidence has been under who's you know control who has touched the evidence at any given time but there was like a brief moment in time where they didn't have logs for it so just like we don't really know where it was so they're trying to say that could have easily been tampered with because other than that the only other evidence you have is that maybe she was still upset about her ex-boyfriend getting married how many people in america can say that i'm sure a ton you're like my ex-boyfriend got married and you know so she was sentenced to 27 years to life which is the possibility of parole in 2039. i don't think she's going to get paroled because i doubt they'll do that otherwise people will be like you do favor your own and i'm sure they'd rather just throw her under and be like babbitts right i personally think that she's guilty i mean the jury thinks so too like the justice system thinks so too but i don't know if you cared about my opinion i think so and the department came forward and said that this shouldn't tarnish their reputation i plea no comment no comment so stephanie lazarus be in jail right now and she's like golly i was a cop when did i get arrested i don't even remember guys that was like a million years ago i'm not a cop that's how i imagined it going right now trying to see that tape yeah it's just very quick so i hope you guys enjoyed today's video and make sure to check out billboard linked in the description and i'll see you guys tomorrow bye
