Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
I actually lived in Granby Colorado this past summer. I was told Marvin Heemyer was upset about the rezoning of some land and thus the "Killdozer" was born. On main street they have the history of their town displayed on a concrete wall, all except for the part where a bulldozer went on a rampage. So it now shows that after 2004 they built all new government owned buildings (post office, Town hall, police department).
Only 7 million?
I don't know why, but that doesn't seem like a big price tag for a BULLDOZER GOING THROUGH YOUR BUILDING to me.
Just water damage to a lot of buildings could cost millions in dollars to fix. And that's without a bulldozer going through your front door.
He was prepared.
For visibility the bulldozer was fitted with several video cameras linked to two monitors mounted on the vehicle's dashboard; the cameras were protected on the outside by 3-inch (76 mm) shields of bullet-resistant plastic.[2] Onboard fans and an air conditioner were used to keep Heemeyer cool while driving, and compressed-air nozzles were fitted to blow dust away from the video cameras. He had made three gun-ports, fitted for a .50 caliber sniper rifle, a .308 semi-automatic, and a .22 long rifle, all fitted with a half-inch-thick steel plate. Heemeyer apparently had no intention of leaving the cabin once he entered it.
...those are bolt-action hunting rifles
My buddy is from the Granby area and was a kid at the time. Most people in town knew this guy, and he says that the killdozer was no secret. He would show it to people while he worked on it in his garage, explain what his plans were, and they'd just laugh it off like a crazy joke. A lot of people from the area like worship this dude now, they wear shirts in support, they took photos with the killdozer after his rampage. I think my friend said he even posed by it himself, and was later struck by how weird and morbid it was, especially knowing a corpse was in there.
"I was always willing to be reasonable until I had to be unreasonable", he wrote. "Sometimes reasonable men must do unreasonable things."
You have to wonder how much of a bunch of assholes does a town have to be to inspire a man to build a KILLDOZER?
jesus, he welded the door shut behind him when he started this rampage. they had to use a cutting torch to get his dead body out.
They need to make a video game version of this. You design a battle tank in your shed and then go out and do as much damage as you can, as efforts to stop you stop you pick up with every million dollars of damage or every life taken.
