[Music] we're not long quarantine with the boys oh let's go let's go Derek boy man what's up man thank you guys been just living the dream one day at a time out in quarantine hey didn't I just see the video of you guys throwing punches at each other throwing water what will throwing a punch at you you did we can talk about that as soon as we started this thing oh we started the whole all right oh okay actually don't don't put this part in but Derek um I'm gonna ask you questions is I just want to know like me your thought process and everything and then if you're ahead I want that to be a thing then I'll just we'll cut that out but this is cuz this is never we're never about 20 klicks or anything I just want to know he knows the boys are for the boys man a hundred percent cool that's our biggest goal in this whole podcast thing is to make sure that's never like our goal is never about getting clicks about like pumping up the boys and getting your thing going no appreciate we're good yeah I'm the worst but yeah we're very we're very unprofessional here so just keep it as is I know you're a family man you're a religious man so I don't think we'll have any issue with you getting too rowdy on this whole entire basement there is um you did you did bring up that yes we'll threw a punch at me I'm talking with my lawyers right now about what to do from a from a legal standpoint I'm still my statute of limitations of whether or not I can press charges so I I may I may have to go down that route and take all bustled with the boys from will it's crazy it's crazy it's crazy to me that people who are watching this I don't know what we're talking about there's a clip that came out that somebody tweeted at me and well of when I was at Michigan and he was at Nebraska and it was 23 to 9 we're getting at were actually getting our dicks kicked in in the fourth order and I just push willed the sideline as any good offensive lineman should do and he was a frustrated and threw a punch and refs hate me and so they did they did nothing so the revs also need to be seized they're the police officers they're they're the security and the police officers on the field and they did not protect all the players at that time I think they should major buys them Bob that's work yeah I didn't I said I didn't think that I didn't think that knowing will I didn't know that it would go to that and escalate so quickly like I didn't think that that would happen I saw this video I was like there has to be some background there it's now I know you two did that Brett was the only first maybe at the whistle push that's just my page I can there's nothing no we didn't like know each other anything back then obviously which is crazy that's why I love the video so much but I'm sure Taylor was saying something you know I mean you know I'm saying Taylor like but the play was done like it is what it is we've already talked about this the play was over in Ann Taylor LaJuan fashion each finished nasty Oh Lyman who finished he knew me I just you know good ol white boy just jog it back to the huddle next play next play with spacious camo dirt put me on ESPN there kept me on ESPN what year was it was it my sophomore year I think Fresno State came to Nebraska and they're kind of top ten play because he like scrambled for the pylon of the endzone didn't you like jump over two of us or something I did do a front flip I did I did oh no way it was on top ten back when ESPN did the top ten like it was one of those top plays I was like forever I've had I've had that picture now my wife got that for me literally that Christmas select life-sized blown right and it's like one of the coolest place because he can like literally seen Nebraska like where you guys run out of the tunnel in the background all that good stuff and and she gets it blown up for me in for three years like obviously I've watched you play I'm a football fan right at what should play at the what you watch to play right but I never put two and two together that you were in the picture and go into week signs you and you were like dude you remember that front flip and it clicked I was like no way I can't believe he got you like that well that's cute leave it you can't believe it or you're just like just horrors right now Derrick no so we just moved in I don't have it I don't have it blown up yet but I don't have it framed yet but that's one of my all-time favorites for sure are you you're fishing weekend in Vegas huh we're here man we are here no doubt you stoked how far you from the strip Oh literally I can like literally look out that window and see it like it's probably 15 minutes max and so I assume you don't have any gambling problems yet but they're probably like there fats on their way yeah absolutely my wife is going to let them catch me before I take out a new mortgage on the house and well you signed 120 million dollar contract I'm sure I'm sure you don't you don't have to worry about staying new mortgage or anything like that dude I'll tell you what I went with rich incognito my first I'm going to Vegas like after like I been in Vegas a bunch I'm from Arizona yeah so the first time I went to Vegas like I met Richie like he was playing for the bill still and he like as a hate you wanna go to Vegas and watch the Conor McGregor made Diaz fight it was the first one well I was like yeah I don't really watch you and see him but he put me on McGregor and it was high dude but I went I played craps for the first time and you know that like beginner's luck and rollin getting or drinking way too much rolling up the tables one like 10 grand I'm like no no I'm not a big game but I was like putting paid money out there was it was like the long haul but ever since then you know the boys everyone doesn't go line trip or something that I'm sure your guys do something like that but we always go to Vegas and I'm stoked Dione the tables now and I feel like I feel like dudes in Vegas like like people like you like you like people like yeah I don't know there's good dudes and there's other guys that everyone has a voice right whether it's chewing tobacco the other thing sometimes like you know the locker room can be sometimes you know like some dudes might get their asses in a little bit of trouble you know I'm saying do you think I know gruder's other big rules got so you think he's gonna like try to implement anything or what's the deal there you know that's that's the crazy thing to me is like we think about the NFL gambling and then we put a team in Las Vegas right right a little different topic well hey yo Derek I need you to get a little more enthusiasm behind that voice I feel like you have your child sleeping right next to you I think that we are people on teams that we've been on that I can put on a list of yeah they're gonna be in trouble if they went to Las Vegas right and right I think that the hardest thing is going to be these young rookies coming in which they're gonna get to Las Vegas you're on the Las Vegas you're playing for the Raiders a story like long story history franchise huh all the excitement everyone here in Vegas - it's like a small Big Town everyone is 100% like it feels like a college atmosphere like everywhere we go is like Raider flags everywhere already and it's just nuts right and so I think these young guys coming in they find a couple stories hopefully hopefully not but I'm sure that there's some stories on the way I I do a little bit so will be my wife do is like what we do for like entertainment like I'm not a big show guy like if we go out of town when we used to come here I'm not in the shows I'll take that money and die well let me go play craps and let's see if we can actually make money on this thing so that your game craps oh that's my game I love it some no it's fun it's so much fun social game have a blast like if somebody gets on a roll to it you're just like everyone's playing for each other there's some do not pass line there's always one guy that shows up and does that too it's like are you doing this Shapley always swelling balding guy and he comes up and all the boys rummages through the broad shoulders of your office lineman he looks left anything looks at the guy about to roll and gently places like $200 in the do not pass line way basically just doing this to you and you're just like hey what do we like we're a team here we should be fighting the casino but we're here to put a better enemy right in front of me this is insane no no no one likes you at the day today nobody no no everyone's rooting against you who loves craps he loves like but he's he's a nickel and dime er like he and I don't know if you've gotten to know him at all but Marcus Mariota one of my favorite one of my favorite teammates of all time like one of the hardest workers great leader I think you guys will really enjoy each other obviously it's very weird situation with like us both being quarterback gs-11 quarterback but he loves he loves hitting the craps have you like have you talked to him at all or had any of those conversations with him about like how to get acclimated the guys like all any of that stuff kind I've been a good teammate or been like alright we'll see how it goes Oh me and Marcus we we've known each other obviously from playing each other in college and then obviously throughout the NFL we it was like we went to Tennessee the first four years of my career to play the Titans which no doubt we were there every time you guys came to us one preseason and every other time we go to you guys I know but knowing him and then we had we've talked already we've we've talked about where we're living and this and then football plays Cruden and offense in the team and everything you know literally literally and he is by far one of the coolest nicest professional people I've ever been around I got nothing but good things to say about him as you know you guys don't like he's amazing he's a great guy yeah and I think yeah I think that us too in that locker room helping lead our football team is amazing I think I think that the most important thing is this Devon United or a back room I always think I've always thought that coming up to the latest when you have a strong United quarterback room we can all go leave the football team it doesn't matter if you're the backup you're the one on the field it's our job to lead those guys because our depth of the offense that we know and we have to correct guys and things like that happen to in really three four you know guys that can do that I think is only mud good things for our team yeah you were uh you were telling me he reached out to you like right away to like what I almost I texted you to say a couple good words about him and stuff like that because you know how everybody can be blowing that kind of up you had mentioned that he reached out to you right away cuz I was like you know Derek and they're gonna get along so much out there because you guys are like he's just your stuff in style a guy yeah ya know you you hit on head when you when you need to text me and asking and all those kind of things because you know how people get nowadays as soon as something happens when you don't win ten football games there's a problem right you know that's how this league is and there there's I can say this especial that there's no problems there's no issues we're good and I don't want anyone to put Marcus against me or me against Marcus or divide our football team or if I have we're in this thing together at legal team and the coolest thing ever is I've had a lot of great guys come and be the backup here like a long list of guys that have been here for my seven year try and Marcus was the first one to reach out to me and say man I'm so excited for this I'm pumped I'm here to 100% support you let's go do this thing I'm excited and I was like man this is the the selflessness you know the selflessness that he had to just say man I'm just here to help you you know help us win I was like dude it put the icing on the cake of who I already thought he was you know he didn't have to do that but he just still went out of his way to say man this is your football team we understand I'm here to compete and get better and all those kind of things awesome just like every football players but you know let's let's just go do it together and like honestly blown away by just the kind of person that he is and that you guys probably aren't shocked with hearing that but that's just the kind of guy is yeah not at all I think I think I mean like Marcus is the most selfless human being ever my life he's the most detailed building permit wouldn't you I mean just notice things when you guys go whenever any treats our universe he will go to one yard pass a line and come back every single time you know would we be right next to each other at all the laws I think that I think says a lot about a person just how they give a little tiny details and he is a like I could not say enough good things about him it's it's unfortunate because I don't know you I don't know you that well we're in the same draft class so I've known of you for a while and I've got I got to know you at the rookie symposium when they did have that because our the Raiders and the Titans like were together we have for some reason been like like the brother teams throughout our career like you guys always coming up and like yeah the last six years we've played each other what five times so it's it's kind of crazy but I just think you know when Tia Hill came to the Titans channel had a very similar approach like Tannehill and Marcus are both unbelievably good guys like hey like we're in this together well then they had the same mindset as how can we grow to help this team this franchise and I think that's that's gonna be huge for the Raiders as well but whether you guys like it or not that's going to be a huge story right is is what's what's gonna happen like throughout camp it's gonna be a host boost throwing the ball well he's doing this well anytime you throw a pick on seven on seven or and warm-ups like it's your character how like years are able to set those things aside and know that you know whatever you believe in whatever you know you put your the higher power in is its own it's already got it already knows it's gonna happen you can see you guys just putting the work in and doing that thing it's a bit very very cool but that heats coming man at all it does I've seen it yeah I've been in the middle of it you know it is just it's just part of the gig it is what it is okay the media dude they're just looking for those clicks that's it that's it just not those clicks bro and and that's been the story of my life for seven years it's just it's you know especially with all the turnover that we've had my goodness like everything is just a story with this so hopefully third year in a system let's just hit the ground running let's just go play football and let's all just high-five each other at the end what it's that's all I want to do what why do you think that why do you think there's been so many I'm sorry well I hate I hate a repeat but why do you think um there is been so many storms why is it like did you in grew didn't have a fight did you guys get an argument yes that's my people people are always saying I'm like and dude I'm you you walk in the facility I know how it is the Raiders but like I walk in the facility and there's things up and it's a given it's ever the Raiders it's like well we know their cars not rooted in sky and well and it's like wow these people know that you know how these people understand and really seems like a type of guy he seems a lot I he's a very smart individual he seems like a person that seems very outgoing and is a very open book but I don't I think he very much keep stuff close to the best in PvE tricks people with how charismatic he is how colorful he can be and how fun and outgoing and outlandish she can be sometimes no but I think like he still does he'll give you this much but there's so much more to him that I think you might know a little bit more oh yeah you're right you know he what people don't get to see from the outside looking in its him and I our interaction every single day and that's why I are tied in thank you he just came out and was like I would all this talk about a new quarterback mind-boggling to me the way I watched those two interactive well never only gets to watch us do our job you know no one gets to watch how we interact how practice goes how we game plan how we make corrections on during the games and all these kind of stuff the freedom that he gives me at the line of scrimmage like there's just another level of stuff that he we don't go into and he's always been a guy that is like you said he's going to show you so much with his now the other things like that but his competitive advantage is what he knows and what he sees on tape but he's gonna hold that close to his best he doesn't want he didn't care if anyone talked he does not care one bit if everyone hates me if everyone doesn't like the way I threw that pass or did that thing he's gonna watch his film he's gonna show me his great cheese and say hey just do this and this and I don't care about anything else and then he's not gonna answer the questions everyone wants answers he just won't do it just that's not I you know he he directly communicates me I mean what people don't understand is I talked to this guy on the phone almost every day I was on the phone with him yesterday for like 15 minutes just talking about some other stuff with our team right and people just don't they don't get to see that stuff and for whatever reason they because of the way that I do live my life they don't get to see the competitiveness and me don't get to see the how much I love football the grit and all those kind of things the similarities they grew and I do have they don't get to see those things when we're behind closed doors you know yeah which i think is a good way to transition into you know when I texted you that one day like yo I love the IG post you're doing now the subtle little like dropping emoji and people talking about your kind of competitive nature and questioning it and you're kind of just like throwing a little jab like you know the boy is here in competitive how do you feel like your mental has changed the probably read certain things and it might affect you might not to where you came out on Twitter the other day saying like you know I don't make my words not yours like you know I don't give a what the haters know about that talk about how your mentals changed from that people kind of questioning it you know what it's become now yeah you know that's always been that's again another part of my life that people just don't really know the death of my competitiveness I don't really love the depth of that dog and you know and it's because I don't need to portray that you know on the streets or anything like that portraying myself yeah my my husband I'm a dad and that's just what I keep it you know but if it comes down to it you know don't mess with my family and right [Music] and I'm a people-pleaser like couple yours is you can't please everybody you know it's impossible and that's something I had to grow through as a man and as a person to where I really don't care what anybody has to say about me you can turn the film on let's watch this let's watch that and then we can talk about you know then it's a different conversation but when I when I continued you know slowed many times could let people write these narratives and I would just give them these politically correct answers and I'm done with that like they can handle that like I'm done with it like I know what I can put on film I know the things that I've accomplished and things like that and I know the things I can do better and the things I'm going to accomplish and the things I'm going to move forward and I don't need any of them to write anything nice about me I don't need any of their votes for anything playing the nice guy only got me six MVP votes anyway you know I didn't do it for me and so I'm still me but I just don't care about any of that anymore yeah like I told you I like you were like hey hey come jump on the bus with us you know and I was like bro absolutely I said I'm telling everybody no like I don't have any times that if they don't if their negativity and their hopelessness and what I'm trying to accomplish isn't pushing me in the way that I want to go I don't have time for cut them out cut amount you said like Eric Church buddy Church you got a song about that he's like I'm a knight stop if you mess with my boys it's over yes I like that I like that a lot dude you don't need to try to please other people will do nothing but take away happiness from your own life so I respect the out of that I think that you don't need to be the perfect all-american but you need to be the best guy you can be traumatic thing but in my own experience I talked about talk so we'll about this pretty frequently is when I was at Michigan they had this you know I came back for my senior year that I want to be like the Jake Long's of the John Jensen's and the you know the Steve Hutchinson I don't actually don't think Steve stated all time but they're like hey you need to be like vanilla you need to be this all-american classic clean-cut you know keep it together kind of guy and like beat a leader everyone needs and it's like I did that and I hurt myself no maybe not maybe not drafts off maybe draft stock but I hurt myself like um like soul like it took away from me as a person it's like if you're not being true yourself to make other people happy the only thing you're gonna do is is this kill Viet your inside and so I think you know whether whether you're an or whether you're you just if you're you but you're constantly trying to be the best you can possibly be and I don't think that you can go wrong and you're not you're not ever to make everybody happy right people you know when I had a bunch of penalty is earlier this year will and I'd be on the face times oh man it's rough out there in Nashville and licking my wounds every day but it really is is like people turn on you and they'll come back just as much - but the only people that matter are the ones you love you know I'm saying your teammates you made the friendships your wife your kids that's the only thing that matters hey what else can kick rocks after that yeah that's what I was telling my wife I said man if I got enough friends you know I've made enough friends you know I got enough people that that I would allow to hold my children you know I would be okay with I had to go to the store yeah let them watch monkey I got enough I got enough of those man I'm not I'm in this thing to come and win and that's how I win but I think eliminating to me just trying to please everybody and do all those things I think it's only going to be great for our pain because I'm not trying to do that anymore I don't care you know what they say about me what they want to write or anything like that look look narrative a try they try to do it for seven years now you know and I'm done with it you know and a lot of it's been great it's a lot been good but even that stuff will fill you up the wrong way I mean I'm just trying to stay right here and just do my stuff it's hard to do it's hard it's hard that when you get a taste of success right man what if I can do this look like a be MVP for you know what if I can you know be all-pro those types of things and it's like then you start reaching and trying to turn to do too much in one direction that all of a sudden they get you from behind you know they get you from a different direction so I get it man I'm not near as much of a spotlight as you are but I've tasted some enough and wanted more to where it's bit me and I've acted in certain ways I thought was supposed to act when I wasn't the real me and I think you could never go wrong with just being yourself so I'm happy for you Dean I appreciate you coming on it was very cool you taking the time we'd love to have you on the actual bus [Music] right before you get off you're mentioning you're talking with curry yesterday for like 15 minutes how are you guys kind of how are you adapt to this kind of quarantine a virtual meeting set up to where I've seen you post stuff to where you're throwing routes and stuff and probably meeting up with guys and talking to them constantly how are you communicating and keeping up with everybody and being you know being a leader being the QB well yeah it's tough you know with all everything that's going on man like this stuff is crazy you know we event I don't know if anyone you know we get York all the time or that something like this has happened where everything really like just shows been right for a lot of people and one thing that we've been able to do you know every morning when I get up and you know me but I don't know if I'm reading my Bible I'm eating breakfast with my three kids you know my wife in my bowl of lab right and doing that thing but then you know once once I had my family time that's you know I'm working out downstairs I'm running I'm throwing you know I'm studying I'm watching film I'm watching you know what I have been doing that's are watching everything every bad play that I was having and then I'd write them down and I'd go to the field and throw those 100 more times you know I'd throw all those rich and get all those things and so just trying to fine-tune you know I feel like you know the the worst thing to do right now is to actually you know be alone and stay aside and just trying to say well everyone else is just chilling like who's not everyone is chin you know he had no down yeah the worst thing to do right now is just to be lacks and oh man well when we start out you know if we start out you know they a week goes by than three weeks in a month and then you're like I haven't done anything you know and that's just never been my mindset so as soon as the season ended I took a few days but I mean I've been I've been hitting it ever since and I my life has kind of stayed the same same force obviously with you know with with what we're doing what workout wise and things like that but you know for the families and those you know really you know the nurses the doctors the hospital staff the patient's everybody dealing with this stuff like my prayers are out to them because they're they're in the midst of it every day in there they got to go back home to their families you don't know if you have it and things like that so you know I'm glad that we have people a lot smarter than me dealing with this stuff but I'm just trying to try to do our best without getting too close to anybody yeah well sure we appreciate you coming on man thank you I know you don't go on other stuff so hey you know the boy is very grateful that you came on here yeah absolutely appreciate you guys for
