say sorry or go to jail that was a decision one Maricopa County sheriff's deputy was forced to make and all this after he took papers off a lawyer's desk almost two months ago Mike Pelton joins us now with the story Mike you've probably all seen this video of deputy Adams started taking a piece of paper off of lawyers desk during a hearing at Judge Gary Donahoe made it very clear apologized to the defense lawyer I go behind bars I cannot and will not apologize for putting court safety first deputy Adams Stoddard refusing to apologize for the courtroom incident that has captured the national spotlight he says he won't comply with Judge Donoho's orders and he's not sorry judge has therefore put me in a position where I must lie or go to jail I will not lie this video shows deputies started walking behind attorney Joanne Kucha he looks at a piece of paper takes it and hands it to another deputy to be copied leaving Kucha infuriated we came down here for an apology we didn't get that what you gonna do Kucha says she's made changes since the October 19th incident I think you should just take a deep breath and calm down here all right I've actually had people escort me to court for feeling fear of retaliation and lawyers on both sides are airing their grievances in an increasingly inflammatory fight you feel like this is a circuit yeah yeah you're a member of the media yeah I think so well I would think you have a higher respect for your own profession now don't don't give me that kind of disappointing that mr. liddy and the deputies and obviously their boss sheriff joe arpaio still feel that they do not have to obey court orders Stoddard says he saw the words going to steel and money and that made him take the paper now he is supposed to report to jail by midnight tonight and Sheriff Arpaio announced this afternoon that Stoddard will turn himself in court officials say he will stay in jail until they find he is no longer in contempt of court live in the newsroom Mike Pelton Cronkite news
