I'm a 3D artist
who makes things primarily for VR chat. It's been my job for over a year. I won't pretend like I've had my hand
forced among my choices. I genuinely like VR chat and the developers,
put a lot of effort into certain parts of their game. One of those parts
is not preventing ripping. The EAC update was considered laughable
by so many because VRC claimed it would put a stop to harassment,
stalking, ripping and botnets problems that they had directly observed
innumerable times. So it's not like
they're oblivious to ripping. And despite the updates, rollout,
ripping has not slowed down. Every so often,
the coalition of troglodytes that run Ripper
Discord's will hold competitions for who can disrespect
people's art and time the most. And invariably, when that happens,
your discord pings will fill with well-meaning server owners repeating to stay out of public worlds
for the time being. But that demonstrates a fundamental
misunderstanding of how ripping works. Here's the hard truth. All the Ripper needs is your username. If they can find it through
Tik-Tok, Twitter or even other's VR chat photos, a ripper can steal your work
without even launching the game. Tupper claims that things are being done,
but they can't talk about them since it will never be 100% solved
and only perfect security can be talked
about openly since it's foolproof. Kanna Protecc makes Rippers shit
themselves. All the code is there on GitHub
for anyone to read. It's free and easy to use. It has its issues,
but it's highly sophisticated. It fully obfuscates your avatar, scrambles
its mesh and unscrambles it in modified shaders, effectively making it impossible
to get a usable copy of your work. It's not foolproof,
but to say it's incredibly difficult to defeat is an understatement. It, among other things, would require Shader Decompilation,
which is a process done manually. No one buttons solution exists. Given that a majority of rippers
are smooth brained script kiddies stealing art,
this is incredibly effective. In the next video, I'm
going to show you how to use Kanna Protecc and some additional things you can do
to protect your work from rippers. I'm in no way
affiliated with Kanna Protecc. I just find it to be an incredible tool
and I really want more people to know about it. Ripping is defeatable. And as someone
who puts a lot of work into my avatars, I find the extra couple of minutes of
effort completely worth it.
