okay maybe you feel like your home's nice but it's just like a little flat and you want to give it a little bit of edge a little bit of oomph or maybe kind of feel like there's always been like a little more of a stylista designer inside of you and you're just looking for the ways for it to come out or maybe you just have that nasty cousin who's coming over soon and she's never believed in your taste and you're going to show her I don't know your reasons but if you want to inject a little more style and Edge and like editorial polish into your home you're in the right place let's [Music] chat oo I'm excited about this video some of these things are going to be affordable some will cost a little money all of them are going to be inspiring wo let's talk about seven things that are going to instantly upgrade the style of your home recently I saw this video called things that make you instantly stylish it's about fashion video by beep World highly recommend great video I thought it was very well done very smart I liked how she did it and I thought let's do that for decor here we go we're doing it also in the middle of this video we're going to play a little design game that I think people are really going to enjoy and learn a lot from and if you stay till the end you're going to get to experience a very special surprise treat it's a treat and it's a surprise at the end oh here we go [Music] okay baby something I'm loving recently tiling in weird places or like a rethinking of your tiling look just look at this bad boy we've got a tiled kitchen island obviously the rest of this kitchen is beautiful as well but the thing that makes it feel like styled special like a wizard was here is this kitchen island that is what stands out as unique so this kitchen without the kitchen island I still think it would be a beautiful kitchen I like it but adding the kitchen L is that piece of style a little bit of Edge and it's not everywhere It's contained so when you're thinking about your space if it's feeling like it's falling a little flat pick one showstopper it can be um you know one piece of furniture you're going to invest in one particular antique one weirdo sculpture one amazing artwork or maybe you're going to towel your kitchen island someone's flushing the toilet upstairs excellent I love this little niche the colors they chose to tile this Niche which like it would have been a beautiful wood Niche cutout even without the tiling it doesn't need it doesn't require it but it's just beautiful it's like someone made a beautiful foundation and then sprinkled a little style dust on top of it just something a little extra ooh we've got what is this called tell me what it's called is it a range no is it a hood tell me what it's called what is it called when it's like a niche a built-in Niche for the range hood I will call it that this built-in Niche range hood covered the entire facade and tile it's so unique like they could have done just the backsplash area they didn't stop there they did the whole piece so it's like this immersive Central statement piece it's the showstopper so if you looking at all that inspo imagery you see online and you're like H I have to spend all this money here and all this money here and all this money there on every single thing no you don't have to pick the one thing where you feel like being a little fancier and then the rest can be you know a little more reserved and it lets that thing pop and it tells the eye where to go and it tells people what to compliment you on when they come to your house okay another thing you can do with tile if you don't want to tile in a weird place you don't feel comfortable like making that jump you can just think about using your tile differently it's very common to see tile like halfway up a wall in a bathroom but they've taken it up to like picture rail height a little higher it's not you know the normal third of a wall they've taken it up higher I love how just makes it extra cozy extra encompassing it feels like a more designed thoughtful experience this bathroom image I keep coming back to this is not like a crazy crazy inventive use of tile but I love the way that they've uh paired the checkerboard tile with this tile that wraps around all the way the backsplash and the side of the wall this image also captures a another style enhancement tip we're going to touch on later we'll come back to that another instance of taking the tile all the way up the wall you don't normally see an entire wall cladded in tiles but it just it makes such a statement looks like a little bathroom they got a basic like Pine piece of furniture There simple sink it's not extravagant otherwise but they've just made a really bold choice and I love doing it with tile this one's cooky this one's insane this one I do like it it wouldn't be in my home oh look how they've added this little pop of a yellow faucet it's nutty there is no distinction between the floor the wall the shower the sink I love it I think it's pretty and I think that's why they did it okay final tile I'm going to make you look at I could look at tile all day yes I could but I won't this is not a crazy use of tile I just think it's a cool tile there's so many colors in the floor with kind of a checker and like there a lot going on but it makes the whole Space it just makes it a little more interesting you take that out and it would be like a beautiful vanity yes nice paint and like everything in here is beautiful but that's what makes it like taste you made a specific uh and unique decision that's what taste is and sometimes the pursuit of taste actually means you're going to fall flat on your face like it's not all wins and that's why it gets scary cuz it's your home it's like the thing about the this the other day how crazy interior design is when you're trying to design your own home it's kind of like fashion like picking out your outfit but it's like I have to wear this outfit forever or for 10 years this outfit has to represent me and how I want to feel for 10 years so It's Tricky I get it and I get why people you know kind of end up tiptoeing away from making a boulder choice but if you ever want to feel like you really nailed like the stylized editorial little bit of edge or just a little more interesting and unique you got to take some of those risks oh my God you totally caught me sleeping it's hard to stay out of bed ever since I got my brand new linen sheets from Brook linen Brooklyn is sponsoring this video and I just link in description good night okay for the next tip I'm going to take us back to this beautiful beautiful bathroom and talk about another thing that's going to sound simple and it's going to just it's just going to blow up your space in a positive way which is going tone on tone with color tone on tone this room really has like as far as like the main color palettes not accent colors it's got one it's got one of them and it's everywhere this tealish whatever it is is used on the walls on the ceiling uh in the checkered tile on the wavy tile tone on tone it's an overwhelming experience it's bold it's like I will not back down from this color I am doubling down tripling down quadrupling down and I actually think it's kind of a safe choice to do because if it's a color you like you're going to like it everywhere in that space it's so fun okay and this is where I want to play the little design game I'm going to describe a room to you I'm not going to show it to you I'm just going to describe it to you and you tell me if you're interested in that design okay just by imagining it and then I'm going to show you the room and we'll see how the images line up so we're talking kitchens this kitchen first thing we're going to do is we're going to paint it red how you feel about that it's kind of like a dirty red but it's red we're going to paint the whole kitchen red and then take like a darker kind of muddier version of that red maybe like an old blood red and we're going to take a tile clad like the bottom half of the wall in like a dark red tile and then we're going to make sure that all the light fixtures are also red dark like old blood kind of red ox blood right so a lot of red hope you like red I don't particularly for the accent colors we're going to use green like a really bright green are you sold now I'll tell you what if I heard that description I'd be like that I hate it that's so hideous but now let's look at this image this is one of the most beautiful inspo images I've seen online recently and it's tone on tone with bold color which I love and is what I want to talk about in this section but when I saw it I also was just like oh my God if you'd ever describe this to me I would not be on board and I don't know what my point is my point is just that like when you're relaying a vision to something I know that other people can't see the vision if someone explained this Vision to me I'd be like try again but this is so stunningly beautiful and whether you're designing a space or you're trying to broadcast the the dream business that you want to start to people tell them about it explain how it's going to be it is so hard for anyone who's not living in your head to be able to see your vision the same way you do they're not in your head they can't see the vision I think the lesson I take from this as well is that you have to take the risks you have to if you ever want to get to anything new anything interesting anything notable you have to take some risk it can't just be a reproduction of everything you've seen and vetted before it has to be something new you haven't thought of you got to take those risks you're going to be so happy wo look at it love this space okay beautiful tone on tone we've just painted the windows the shutters some of the trim a darker green and we got like an olivey green I've never painted a room in olive green look how fun it is look how beautiful and it's actually kind kind of simple yes they have nice Windows they've got one nice lighting fixture but the rest it's just a room that has some trim in it dog they have made this space with the tone on tone of the green they doubled down on the green they're like I'm going to die on this green hill and it's adorable if it was all just one color without that second green it would fall flat to me it would feel like someone took a risk but they didn't like complete the thought but I think that's what like the tone on tone does it's like it's both taking a risk with color and it's seeing it through with like a a sequel you know what I mean is that a good metaphor I don't know here's an even better example this is an even more basic space this hallway it's like it looks like it's concrete not a lot going on not a fancy space but they made it by just making a color choice and splitting it into two tones it's so doable okay we're going to play the design game again I'm going to describe the space to you so this space it's a bathroom bright yellow like Crayola yellow everywhere we've got black fixture the bottom half of the wall tiled in like a school bus yellow bright yellow as bright as you can imagine are you ready can I do this to your bathroom well check her out stunning stunning stunning I love this home so much and look at this one A different one in green it just makes me so happy and then what else do you have to do with it not much put up one little piece of art with some contrasting colors not much dog that does the heavy lifting bold color Choice double down if you're in a contained space the the places I think that this is hard is when you're an open concept it's I find it way harder to [Music] do okay this tip is one of my favorites I'm already excited playing with scale don't forget about scale it is your friend and it's a silly time for example very lovely pretty simple bedroom kind of oversized headboard they went big on the headboard big and dramatic with the curtains and then just like beep look at that little sky Boop look at that little side table that little vase it's like According to some design rules not the standard proportion it's like no you can just go doink I think it's done best when it's balanced with larger scale elsewhere so playing with scale oh here's another little dink it just makes me feel like Yeet just like Boop ooh here's a great example super impressive like bold statement of a fireplace we could totally have done a giant artwork over top we could have done a gallery wall around it but no they just said with the accessories that's it and this looks like a designer did it what who did did what it's just a vase on a mantle but it it's special this image to me this captures the magic of scale so well nothing fancy is going on in this image but something about doing a stool and just making it so dony like I love that very fun use of scale we're looking at a pretty simple scene and then boom with the artwork doing the large artwork over the tub just one of them and it's making a statement and the color palette can stay really simple that's how you make a really neutral color palette work is you've got the interest coming in different ways such just playing with scale very large oversized artwork on the wall and we've paired it with very low Baby Boy chairs doink doink I like that we'll call this the principle of dink okay y'all this is a quickie but I'm so passionate about it I'm so passionate about it so here we are here we are some statement hand crafted dishes dish wear yeah dish wear I am absolutely obsessed with this handmade hand painted dinner set and I am certain it can't be cheap it can't be cheap and it shouldn't be this is hand done by somebody but if you were to put this like this on my cheap $300 dining table it would make such a statement that's the entire statement I can serve you Burger King on these plates and you are having the meal of your life you're having an Instagram worthy meal they are so unique they're so stunning this set in cobalt blue look at these ones I'm losing my mind if you're trying to to host a dinner food yeah Food Matters for sure but I don't know anything about food this video isn't about food for the hosting presentation part of it you know the tabletop is like the canvas everyone's looking at that's the artwork everyone's looking at that's the main thing get some beautiful plates some beautiful dish dinner wear this guy stunning absolutely stunning please I'm dying here's a very pretty one a little bit different style it almost feels like a little like New Mexico or maybe original Mexico I don't know which but it's beautiful these things that you're you're touching interacting with your home it just goes such a long way you're not just looking at it you're feeling it you're eating off of it you're passing it around you're putting your mouth on it you're licking it you know it's I'm going to say it's the jewelry of the dinner table you [Music] know another favorite to enhance your home if it's feeling a little flat if it's feeling a little predictable don't get too attached to one style aesthetic now almost every single beautiful inspiring photo in this video you would have a hard time naming what the style is what's the design style if you can name it too easily it might be falling flat cuz it could just look like a bunch of other things and I think the most interesting spaces are always a really great mix maybe just of two Styles but maybe of a ton take this image right here it's almost like a little rustic we've got like a rustic table and a very simple bench and just this kind of worn chair but then we've put in a modern little artwork and this very fresh modern pendant light beautiful I love that friction it can just be one piece two pieces that bring in the friction and make it more interesting you take those away it falls flat it's not the same this guy please look at this photo and tell me what the style is what design style is this I don't know I don't know there's like a very stunningly traditional kitchen island and then we've got super modern pendant lights a more traditional chair with a very modern table it's just a great mix I love the mix a simpler version you don't have to go crazy you can pick like two Styles this image by Karly page this room is a very traditional base but it's got very distinct intentional modern accents I love love this photo at first glance it looks like a pretty midcentury space with that credenza and the chairs and all the wood then you look at this wallpaper it's like a weirdly floral dainty wallpaper back there it's different it's so personal you're never going to find another space like this and I love that so don't be afraid don't be afraid this room I'll tell you what it's a little industrial it's a little modern it's a little eclectic and it's lovely we don't actually really have to know what the style is we don't have to know oh baby this is one of my favorites this is one of my favorites let's talk about High color contrast high contrast in your colors so scary to do so let's take some time to boost up our confidence about doing it by looking at some inso pics that are hot this guy I look at this photo probably once a week I just keep coming back to it I love it would I imagine pairing a pale blue wall with an an olive green hallway and like a coral trim probably not I probably wouldn't think of it but I love it so much and those three colors do go really nicely together like if you just held those in the color palette they go really nicely together that's not so surprising but to have them so boldly paired in such a large way it's delightful the showstopper is the color palette of the home they've gone smaller with the artworks they've gone smaller with that little table in there they have a nice rug on the floor but like the rest is minimal and it lets you just appreciate look how we lost our mind in the paint store I love ochre it's no secret they've done this bold ochre color and then left like the trim and the ceiling and white kind of as a frame it frames it out has like a really cool masculine feel to me I just think it's so fun I love how they painted above the picture rail in this room otherwise like this is a cute room ain't nothing wrong with this room but that color on the ceiling the Bold High color contrast that's what makes it Pinterest worthy basically High color contrast you can even do High color contrast by just like keeping the dark woods the natural Woods of your home and going really bright white with your colors this guy bright blue sink and it's so much fun this little bathroom here is kind of Nothing Without It And they also don't need a lot else in here it's like I want to take a picture of that bathroom now it's so fun it's like it makes it fun we're playing we're playing in the bathroom this is a very accessible version which I'm loving where they've just painted around the trim of the arch I love how it frames out the the bed what fun High color contrast I think I just like this dog but I also love the high contrast in the colors here and it wouldn't be nearly as fun without it like here this is another image of the room where you can't see any of the red and it's like okay it's a blue room it's a blue shelf and like that's nice and we don't have any complaints but boom this is the business just a business honey oh I also have to make two very important announcements if you watch my decluttering video I talked about how I lost all my health insurance by accident when like I had to cancel a credit card and I was trying to get it reinstated and it was extremely stressful and one of the subscribers who watched the video contacted me through a previous message we'd had on Facebook marketplace where she was going to buy something from me and she was like hey this is random but like I saw you need insurance and I work for XYZ with the insurance Marketplace and like this is the number you need to call to have them reinstate your insurance and I it was a number I was never going to find I had no idea I had no way of knowing and she reached out to me via Facebook Marketplace and now I have insurance again literally due to a subscriber who watched my video so one of the most amazing crazy ridiculous undeserved things so shout out to Kelly if you're watching this video you actually like maybe saved my life you're officially my favorite subscriber right now and I have to say thank you other important announcement is that I am currently accepting compliments on my new throw blanket pretty good colors huh look at this pre-existing pillow I had yeah yeah I think so and wouldn't you know this blanket is from none other than Brook Lin and I love them okay deal with it okay this last guy is Far and Away my biggest design Obsession recently and it's one of the most accessible and affordable and the most fun the most fun I am obsessed with abstract Floral Design I think of this as sculpture this abstract Floral Design it's like modern Floral Design modern and yet it's actually not this kind of flower design comes from something called ikibana which is an ancient Japanese art of floral design and floral and arranging and it's something you could study for a lifetime so I'm not going to pretend to be an expert of it but it's an art for I love I'm obsessed with it I've been really enjoying bringing more modern touches as accents into my kind of traditional base of a home we talked about having contrast and friction in your Styles abstract Floral Design it's sculptural it's kooky it's Unique every time every single one of these ends up being a statement piece you know what's really cool about this too you don't need to buy as many flowers it could actually be way more affordable than just having giant bouquet everywhere all the time look at this guy I've been so obsessed with it you have to have a specific kind of vase to hold flowers in this way like if you try and put flowers in a vase like that they will not stay standing that way on their own if it's a thin stem or like like look at these cucarachas so I contacted the only person I would ever contact for this my brother and together we designed our very own custom vase that allows you to do abstract Floral Design oh my gosh if you've been admiring these flowers in the background look at this absolute Cucaracha like you can't do this in a regular vase so I asked Luke to design for me an ikibana they usually have these like very short bases this device in the center that allows all the flowers to stand up this is made of pure Walnut this is a more medium siiz he also designed some little smaller babies cuz we wanted to have some smaller ones so everybody could afford one this is Walnut look at the grain we die for this grain oh my gosh and it has this little device in the center that allows for the ehib style of flower arranging which again I'm not an expert at but what's really fun about it is that like you don't have to be you don't have to be an expert for it to look really cool like I love this I love this so much and I can't do this in a regular vase oh I had one in my like little fashion outfits video and people were already asking about it but I wasn't ready to share the secret the vases are available for purchase I am so over the moon with them they're my favorite thing on earth are you kidding me are you kidding me oh if only we could ask the creator of this phase the Craftsman of this vase about the vase well hey there Luke my brother you're familiar with Luke made these vases um so I just take wood this is Walnut because Walnut is King and I turn it on a lathe I'm a lath this and we wanted to make sure to have like a super affordable one which is why he came up with the design for the tiny baby oak guy who's a little less finished because you said most of the hours of Labor cuz you're making each of these by hand most of the hours of Labor go into making this super super fine finish so he made sure to come up with a really affordable one which I love sweet it's so sweet of you which one do you want to design which one do you want to do a floral floor that guy here ly that's really looking adorable I really love so nice to see you express yourself wait you were saying you don't like um you like the phrase mix and match yeah I was a little like interesting hot take 12 12-year-old kid and friend of mine's parent very nicely was taking us to get slushies at 7-Eleven he was like you going to get one flavor you going to mix and match and I just just remember being like I hate that I hate the way that you said that and that doesn't really make any sense can match them and mix them look at that wow I am ooh it smells like it smells like allergies Luke you're beautiful wow I'll be oh i'llbe ly you're an artist wow look at that that's amazing It's amazing that's Bonkers actually I need to take a picture like just for me just like just for you to look at have a picture when you're happy when you're alone in your room instant sculpture instant art but with florals I'm going to post Luke's Etsy shop if you guys end up getting one it's so much fun if you style it take a photo tag me so I can see it but tag my brother's Etsy account because he deserves all the props here but tag me so I can see it cuz I want to see it I just want to see it okay baby that is it that is stinking it I have had the worst cramps this whole time I'm going to go cuddle up with my heating pad Justin actually gave me the tip to use a heating pad for cramps why did he know that I can't get over how cute this looks up here I'm just looking at it like a proud mama I hope you got some very exciting tips to upgrade your home please check out Luke's Etsy shop because he's making one-of aind Creations they're showstoppers if you want a showstopper with one purchase in your home mhm he's the best I think is the moral of this story I think the rest of the moral is it does get scary making those like Bolder stylistic choices for the first time when it's going to be permanent when it's going to be forever when it's going to cost a lot because it's your the home you own so don't wait till then I start experimenting just with paint bold paint Combos and like it's just paint dog nobody's ever died from it except when they ate it back when it was made of lead but ever since then people have mostly been fineing start experimenting stting little ways and build your confidence up so that you can make those bigger stylistic risky decisions and just reap the benefits we're all style Queens talk to you soon if you love making your home beautiful you got to check out Brooklyn and click the link in description and you can get 15% off your first
