okay this is our Tuesday night Bible study for the 10th of October 2017 and what we've been going through I think last week we went through and looked at the Melchizedek Dead Sea scroll and we thought that was pretty interesting because it showed a Dead Sea scroll kind of a commentary what the Essenes believed would be the coming of Messiah establishment of the kingdom things like that written about a hundred BC or more everybody agrees that it's way too old to be Christian and the Essenes believed a messiah would come according to their calendar and compared to ours it would have been 32 AD we saw that that he would save us from our sins that's what he came to do that he would be rejected by the priesthood the peace priesthood what priesthood would be absolved and he would start a totally new priesthood the Messiah would be the one to fulfill numbers 24 Isaiah 53 Daniel 9 all those passages that we think about or that Paul or the New Testament writers say this pointed directly to Christ or that Jesus quoted to the Pharisees many of those I think we looked at there's probably about eight or so in that document that document is just a fragment of a much larger book the top prophecy you know and it's just amazing to me that those are around just enough to let us know kind of piece things together we didn't really learn anything new we knew what the New Testament teaches about Christ we knew he died in 32 ad but it's interesting to see the it confirmed it yes and it's interesting because I want to say one thing before we look at a couple these things people find a date in Scripture and and instantly try to say it's the rapture of the second coming and like I've found several dates in Scripture that show you clearly from this point at this point is when a certain thing happens and from Daniel we learned the Messiah was supposed to die in 32 ad Israel was supposed to come back as a nation in 1948 and was supposed to take the Temple Mount in 67 and those things happened not just to the year but to the day prophesied and so since it's passed and I point out that's what we're talking about I don't get yelled out too much for setting dates because I'm not talking about future things but it's interesting that we look at these things and we have signs and blood moons and those point probably may be just a coincidence but probably to something you know but it's not the second coming or anything and in looking at this I wanted to say that there are certain dates we can look at we can figure out that the dates of the end of ages but that doesn't necessarily mean anything in particular so take for instance Jesus first coming we know the end of the age was it was 75 AD according to the Dead Sea Scrolls the Talmud lots of things like that school of Elijah but what happened Jesus was born a lot of us would think like the main thing is the birth of Christ okay that was two BC while the death of Christ is really what started it that's 32 AD and the birth of the church is really what started at Pentecost well that's 32 ad then 70 AD was a destruction of the Jerusalem Temple 73 ad the destruction of the Alexandrian temple the 75 the setting the side of the the sacrificial system and that actually was the year of the change of the age so what I'm getting at is somebody in the first century could have looked at that and said well Messiah is not gonna be here until 75 ad you know according on our calendar while you were mistaken as far as the birth it's almost a hundred years before so there's lots of things that of course Daniel told us told us when he would die and told us that he'd be a priest so he had to been born at least thirty years before that and so we pull all the Scriptures together you just got to put the the prophecies in the scriptures together in the right order so my point is we ought to be able to from all these calculations and the calendar of the Dead Sea to figure out probably fairly accurately give or take even maybe just a year the Year 6,000 so if we did that and figured out four that's the end of an age something's going to happen that year that's for sure but that doesn't necessarily even mean that's the second coming or that's the rapture so if we look at what we know about prophecy it could be a rapture could be the Antichrist in the middle of the temple could be the second coming destruction of the Antichrist system could be the laying the foundation stone of the next temple could be the finishing of the next temple that's been major focuses on a lot of these ages finishings of the temple that whole process there probably is 40 50 60 years you know around that time period you know so in other words we still don't know for sure when the rapture is happening even if we can pinpoint for instance the end of the age and I think the end of the age is pretty easy to pinpoint so I just say that because we might be able to use this to figure out something and but I don't think it's going to be the second coming or the the rapture although it could be I mean just you just never know so but with that I wanted to kind of stop back and again remind us we looked at the teaching of Elijah and the ages I had that sheet we handed out in the sheets on Bible facts dorg under I think creation history the timelines so that's an early we looked at Enochs prophecy of the weeks and it kind of showed the same thing we saw the church fathers the Dead Sea Scrolls the Talmud everybody teaches a 6,000 year history the coming of the Messiah messianic kingdom and then a thousand year millennial reign so it's all the thing is the calendars are just messed up and it's a good guess on where we're at which is actually a prophecy out of Enoch that the calendars would get messed up but again when when the Dead Sea Scrolls come back and it's the same thing if somebody says this event will happen in just even in in the decade of this and then you get five or six different manuscripts saying other things will happen in this decade of that and then you can look at the exact dates where those happened in history you can begin to pinpoint down to a dead maybe down to a half a decade maybe even down to a couple years if you have enough points and so I think we can we can do that and so what's interesting is to go back and look at some of these other prophecies again showing the same calculations on the timeline but these are mostly pointing out the things that happen right before the Messiah comes the first coming is day we're really concerned with the end of their age which is pretty interesting and so we looked at Enochs prophecies last week we looked at that Melchizedek Ian document there's a couple of other prophecies from the Dead Sea Scrolls I wanted to look at of course they're fragments they're very very small but again they help out with this kind of thing one of them is a fragment let's see where I want to start here exactly okay let me just start out here when we went through and we looked at the Enochs prophecy of the ten weeks we had that lined out and each week was each day was a hundred years and there's ten weeks and so that's seven thousand years and he had in that series of time certain things would happen and they were major things there is actually not only parts of that in the Dead Sea Scrolls but there's actually a commentary from the Essenes on Enochs ten-week prophecy and so that's pretty interesting so just just to remind you on the ten week prophecy look at the weeks five through five and six here in well in week four it says in Enochs prophecy during the fourth week there will be visions of holy and righteous God which would be on Mount Sinai will be seen am a law given for all generations and an enclosure will be made for them so you've got the law coming the law of Moses the tabernacle those things happening during that week so we're talking about Sinai and then it says after that during the fifth week the house of Dominion that be solomon's temple will be built and forever glorified and then in the sixth week you get some strange things happening so that's what he's talking about so just to remind you of that now the commentary on Enochs ten weeks you just have a really small piece of it but I thought this was pretty interesting there's six lines they're fragmented so they just say this line one says a period engraved on the heavenly tablets that's Enoch type language line number two says after it shall come the fifth week and its end is and then that's all we have so we're talking about the fifth week and that's when solomon's temple is is created and the second or the third line says its four hundred and eighty years until Solomon builds the temple then the fourth line is Zedekiah king of Judah goes into exile so these are things that happen you know that's it toward the end of the temple period so he's talking about he's basically saying this is what he not prophesied and here's what happened Solomon did build the temple it existed this long and there was a king named Zedekiah and this is what happened this is how it got destroyed so he's making commentary on all this huh pretty amazing number five says the sons of Levi and the people of the land do something and then the last one I thought was interesting is number six is the king of chittim and that's all it says thank you kitten ki t T I am that's a Hebrew word for Rome and if you think about it during this time period if if you go back and just kind of look it out that's we're talking about the fifth week is when the King Solomon's Temple is made and then in the sixth week that's between 425 BC and 275 so that's during that time period that's when the ships of Kodama came Rome took over Messiah Cain died the church was born Israel was dispersed during that whole time period sounds pretty interesting that doesn't again give us any new information but I just thought it's interesting that not only did the because we have the Book of Enoch in its best form in the EcoP canon but those are Christians okay so Christians might tamper with stuff we're just trying to you know play both ends against the middle here but parts of Enoch found in the Dead Sea Scrolls the parts that are found which is not a whole lot but it's a good amount amount to know what we're talking about is identical with what's in the the text that we always have and then these guys not only had the Book of Enoch but had commentary on it just really interesting and the commentary goes along with the weeks and the Jubilees and the same kind of a timeline so I'm beginning to see a lot of different sources from a lot of periods about things that happened on a certain Jubilee in a certain week and in a certain year and so again the more of those we pull together and they tend to all be correct so if the majority of them are correct we can probably find a good timeline and it shows us you know where we are on the on the time scale so when is the year 6,000 is the end of our age and then some time it on either on that date or some time before is going to be the second coming and the rapture and that kind of stuff I doubt those things are going to be in the next stage although I suppose it's possible but some sort of a major shift occurs and the next age is called the messianic Kingdom so that kind of you know fits and that type of thing so that was pretty interesting and there's a just go up here there's two or three things that we could talk about but I just wanted to show I'll just do this one and we'll talk about the other stuff later but there's another fragment it's called qa4 q 385 a and most of these don't have names they're just fragments in other words this is a Dead Sea scroll that was found in Qumran that's what the q means in number four so far there's been 11 caves that have had Scrolls found in them so in cave 4 scroll number 3 85 the first part of it is what that means but that's a prophecy of three priests and I thought this was really interesting where it doesn't tell us exactly and we'll figure out later when this happened it still passed dealing with the first coming but this is pretty fascinating it says this there will be three priests okay Levites and he'd ruin something like that three priests who do or will not walk in the ways of the Lord like the former priests who by the name of the God of Israel were called and in their days there will be brought down the pride of those who act wickedly against the Covenant and of the slaves of foreign things you see that all through the writings there's these people that follow the Covenant of God godly people and they're the people that are that are enslaved to foreign things you know Israelites don't have idols and they don't have stuff you know things like that they don't have sports but and they don't have the weird kind of food you know and stuff like that not that any of that's bad for Gentiles but it's just if you're Jewish you're supposed to eat kosher you're supposed to stay away from naked people you know and you're supposed to not have certain things then there are these Jews that follow the Covenant and there are these Jews that don't follow the Covenant so I'm pretty interesting so you love the Royals and yeah that's okay but he goes on and says and Israel then in the time of these three kings or these three priests rather who are our wicked who follow foreign things Israel will be rent asunder in that generation each man fighting against his neighbor over the Torah and over the Covenant so this tells us number one the Covenant is slightly different than the Torah something to keep in mind anyway and I will send hunger upon the land but not for bread or thirst or water but rather for the hearing of words that's that's the whole fragment of that but what's interesting about it is the prophecy is basically saying Jews are Jews they debate stuff but we all get along there are no parties there's no pharisees sadducees in whatever it were just Jews we know what the prophecies say we're following the scriptures were waiting on the Messiah everything's fine and three priests show up and everything gets obliterated to the point that they become enslaved for Greek or foreign things they stop following the Covenant they start fighting with each other which means they form factions so we're gonna have Essenes and M Pharisees and Sadducees and zealots and Bolivians and different groups like that and it's all fighting over the Torah and the Covenant somebody's changing things apparently because if we all were just Christians and we all basically believe the same thing then there's a church split or three or four or five Church splits and now we've got five different groups and we fight bitterly over this one doctrine or over five doctrines or something like that that's really what it's being prophesied here so I think it's fascinating because there is another prophecy in and again we've talked about this a little bit but there are the Essenes about the the Pharisees believed in what's called the Oral Torah so they interpret the Old Testament by the writings of the Oral Torah if the Oral Torah is what it's supposed to be which is God talking to Moses orally dode be great if there's weird stuff in the Oral Torah then that's bad okay so anytime you want to but we all do that I usually in but the Scriptures by the way the early church fathers interpreted them so I see him through the church father glasses and and most Jews would see him through the Talmud the reticle the Pharisee type glasses the Essenes however interpreted the Old Testament by the way the patriarchs taught it and they had a collection of books called the writings of the patriarchs and if it's true supposedly these would be the writings from Adam through Aaron that all taught about prophecy and the things that are going on proper morality what to guard yourself against so be that right or wrong be it fiction or real or a combination of that that's basically the difference so you've got Essenes following the written Testaments of the patriarchs the Pharisees following the written oral code if that makes sense the oral code that was finally written down and that that's always fishy to me anyway if we have a secret code that we've always talked about and we keep it alive by talking and 300 years goes by and then somebody writes it down how do you know for sure they got it right if it was never written for three you know so but anyway it's possible so anyway with that being said there is a testament of Levi Levi's the one that started the priesthood it's pretty interesting he's talking about a set of weeks there's gonna be 70 weeks of years where some there certain thing happens and he's doing everything in Jubilees and in weeks that kind of thing - let me just read you part of this this is part of a prophecy from him this is from chapter 17 of Testament Levi it says because you have heard concerning the seventy weeks he and I'm not sure which one he's talking about he didn't bother telling me so again it's just like the prophets well you know about that one not really I wish you would start by telling me that but anyway we we know about the 70 weeks this is probably not Daniel 70 weeks because Daniels not alive yet but there's another 70 week prophecy in Enochs is a ten week prophecy so he's talking about something else because you have heard of that here now also concerning Priesthood this is a prophecy about the priesthood so this is Levi and Levi's gonna have Co hath Amram Aaron and Moses Aaron starts the official priesthood Noorani priesthood and then his kids continue the line so this is a prophecy that Levi has it it's in us too it's in that particular age and so there's a series of 10 Jubilees like normal says in the first Jubilee the first who is anointed into the priesthood was Aaron obviously will be great and he will speak to God as to a father or God will speak to him as a father his priesthood shall be filled with the fear of the Lord and in the day of his gladness he shall arise for the salvation of the world talking about the Messiah in the second Jubilee so this is series of fifty years so basically you're starting back there and the priests are great the priests are godly fifty years later in that next Jubilee in the second Jubilee he who is anointed shall be conceived in sorrow of beloved ones some sort of award his priesthood shall be honored and shall be glorified above all the third priest will be held fast in sorrow the fourth shall be in grief because unrighteousness shall be laid upon him exceedingly and all Israel will hate one another his neighbor so in the fourth there's this extreme hatred factions in the fifth shall be held in darkness likewise in the sixth and the seventh in the seventh there shall be such pollution as I am NOT able to express before the Lord and men for they shall know it who does these things therefore they shall be in captivity and for a prey and their land and their substance shall be destroyed in the fifth week of that Jubilee they shall return to their desolate country and shall renew the house of the Lord in the seventh week shall come priests worshipers of idols contentious lovers of money proud lawless lascivious abusers of children and beasts that doesn't sound like animal cruelty that sounds like extreme depravity it's it's hard for me to think of a priest of God that's child molester yeah I'm just extremely twisted so this is showing a progression from holy people to extreme horribleness of course when you think of Anna's and Caiaphas buying the priesthood whoever had the right money and the right connections got it you know that's who knows but I thought this is interesting because what I did was I went through and looked at this looking at that last age in the ten Jubilees and so if we go back to you know we start at 75 it's the end of our age so 10 Jubilees back put us back to 425 BC so and I've got a chart in here but you got the first temple destroyed the second temple dedicated sect first temple was destroyed in 587 second temple is dedicated in 5:17 and then artaxerxes decree which is that 70 weeks prophecy of Daniel that took place in 444 BC all in the age previous to this so then we kind of start over 425 yeah 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th Jubilees then you get to the 6th the Jubilee not mentioned in here but in the 6th Jubilee that would be 1 75 to 125 BC and we remember about 163 is when Antiochus Epiphanes came desecrated the temple the Maccabees took over finally ousted him had to rededicate the temple we had the miracles of Hanukkah you know and so we're talking about Judah Maccabee the first priest you know the Lord again in honor and glory to the Lord totally sold out to the Lord we're talking about the Maccabees in this part so that's pretty cool so then you go down in the seventh week that's the one of the prophecies were about seventh week then is the next or the seventh Jubilee rather would be 125 275 BC okay so the fifth week in here was 96 would be 96 to 89 BC and that's when they're exiled and the temples desecrated and then they finally come back and they fix stuff sounds like a civil war kind of well I looked that up in like codex Judah aired in that encyclopedia Judaica and those are those other sort of the sides 96 by basically in the 90s too I think 88 in that time period there actually was a civil war and that was the civil war between the Pharisees and the Sadducees that had just started the factions had just started but some of this prophecies pretty accurate if we plug it in to the same age chronology that we've been doing everything seems to be lining up of course yes yeah I'll tell you I'll tell you what happened here in a minute but it's just interesting the 70th seventh week then is 82 to 75 BC of that one now in the in the eighth Jubilee which would be between 75 to 25 BC that's when we have Herod the Great picked that was in 37 BC we know the Essenes were alive and well at that time because mineus the Machine the Essene was the one that predicted Herod the Great would be the next king and everybody said you're nuts he's not even Jewish it can't happen well the Romans made it happen you know the they were extremely accurate with their prophecies pretty interesting so then you get to the 10th Jubilee that's that last one in the first week that's between 25 to 32 ad that's when the Messiah died we saw that from the Melchizedek Ian document and then in the seventh week of that which is the last week 80 or 68 to 75 ad sacrifices are abolished account the V&A comes it's the end of the age so it's pretty interesting that this fits in here so we want to go back and look at since who are these priests specifically there's three of them that somehow cause problems so there's a civil war slightly before that civil war or after that Civil War there's three priests that change stuff so that's what the prophecy is telling us so if we go back and we look at the history basically here's the history that I found so you've got Judah Maccabee leading the successful revolt against Antiochus Epiphanes about 165 BC and we all know that pretty well the Chanukah stopped annika stories his successor started the Hasmonean dynasty so the the Maccabee in dynasty okay when both the Seleucid and the Roman Empire's finally recognized Israel as an independent nation that happened about 110 BC at that time the ruler who was John her canis started to come a campaign to conquest all the neighboring nations he ruled as king and as High Priest which is forbidden so normally they didn't do that he was the first to say no I'm a king you're not at the lineage of David you can't be king but anyway the Jews who supported the high priest being priest and King and the idea of priestly rule which is forbidden became known as the Holy Ones or the Sadducees okay they supported the king the the name was taken from Zadok the priest so when the priests or Kings there's a Bakke ins or Sadducees okay a dissension arose by from those who believed that the king did not have the right to force non-jews to convert to Judaism and be circumcised and that's absolutely true he does not they should be Noah hides they should be accepted this was between 110 and 103 let's see here so these separatists these were separatists we're going to break from this you don't have the right to tell us what to do even though you're King so these separatists became known as separatists in the word for separatist in Hebrew this Pharisee so you get the Pharisees and the Sadducees do you support the king or you support the people at this point Sadducees are wacko they're disobeying the law of Moses Pharisees man are right on target so everything's cool at this point I'm a Pharisee but then that that phased out and then in 103 BC Alexander J Gnaeus became the next has money and ruler he'd not only continued the idea of priestly rule and continued the idea that we should force all Jews and Gentiles to live as Jews which goes against the law of Moses we'll study that sometime in the near future we'll look at the law of Kings from the Dead Sea Scrolls and other things and talk about Noah haidle on the way it used to be the way it's always been and was always supposed to be and he changed it but not only did he do that but he said that all Jews and Gentiles must follow the priestly code now this is where we see in the New Testament were the Pharisees or Sadducees or whoever come up to Jesus and say why don't your disciples wash their hands like we do following the tradition of the elders well they're not priests they're not supposed to know know everybody's supposed to know you made void the Word of God again that's not for Gentiles that's not for normal Jews they are not priests but he wanted to do sacrifice their own animals in the temple they should be put to death for that there are things priests do and there are things that Jews do and there are things that Gentiles do there are things that women do and there are things that men do don't mix those up but this guy said no no it the highest form of holiness is what the priests do in the temple so we're all going to do that no that's wrong so the Pharisees were saying you can't do this that's inappropriate so that's what he did so this and led the Pharisees into an open rebellion no if God killed need a band huh by you for takin a coal from this pot to that pot because it's inappropriate and you want me to violate the priestly code even though I'm not a priest to go mess with the pots of no I'd want to get killed it's apparently important so they rebelled against that and that caused this Civil War to develop the Pharisees believed that the law of priests were only for priests not common Jews or Gentiles they said the king had no right to force conversion or require non priests to follow the priestly code this plunged Israel into an eight-year civil war was from 96 to 88 BC amazing just like that scroll predicted now I suppose the scroll could have been written after the fact but either way it's showing what happened so at this point we don't really care although the scholars dated about a hundred and fifty BC like the other Scrolls so pretty interesting okay doing this during this intense persecution that there was of the Pharisees there was one man named Simon Ben Sita okay he was a Pharisee and nasi which is a present president of the Sanhedrin so he was basically kind of a ruler plus he was a ruler of the rebellion so he almost got killed so he fled for safety into Alexandria Egypt just outside of the reach while he was down there he met two men Maya and a blatant I don't know if I'm saying these words right or not but these two guys they were natives of Alexandria but they were direct descendants of the king of Assyria but that was pretty interesting and they were converted to Judaism the persecution ended and he returned to Jerusalem and when the persecution ended it ended with the death of the current king well this guy Simon Ammann Sita his sister okay the next queen or Hasmonean ruler and she was called Queen so salami of Alexandria so she became the next ruler the Pharisees then became very powerful and you've got this kind of a middle ground of Sadducees and Pharisees and they're kind of compromising and somewhere along the line we see by the New Testament everybody accepts the idea that the priestly code is for everybody and everybody should do it but it gets more interesting though because that happened and then a Simon been Sita replaced the long-standing tradition that the fathers teach the the sons the Torah up until that time each father taught their sons the Torah how to do it how to follow directions you do the Sabbath you eat this food you don't eat that food it's up to the Father at this time because of this and people are getting killed Pharisees or Sadducees they created the official sad you see Pharisee school and all kids have to attend the proper indoctrination but that was pretty interesting all children now so they replaced that with Torah schools all children were required to attend these Torah schools for proper and alternation then he brought his two Assyrian converts to Judaism and they ended up succeeding him as rulers in the Sanhedrin but you don't you're not supposed to allow not convert so they can get married and their kids get raised up they can be rulers but converts or not they have all the privileges of being Jewish but you know like Paul said you don't let a Novus rule in the church the same thing it's the same concept but somehow they became rulers in the Sanhedrin they changed the standard way of interpreting Torah and replaced it with what would become known as midrashic interpretation they were the first according to Jewish history they were the first Darshan's darjah and meaning teacher or preacher Midrash Arshin so the same kind of root word this new method of Torah interpretation was called the rush or oral tradition and somehow this oral tradition becomes known as what Moses gave us and the interesting thing about it is just like we have a president who writes executive orders and they're in force as long as he's president when he goes the new president changes stuff what Congress writes is permanent or it's way it's supposed to be in this case that's kind of the way it was - but with this oral tradition they said from now on anybody that makes a ruling that's mandatory forever and ever it's part of the tour it's oral torah so it has to be followed and so the Oral Torah tradition develops at this point from this point forward legal rulings of the Sanhedrin are binding on all and were to be collected and enforced for all future generations at this point then a new denomination emerged called the Essenes okay so you can understand this at this point you realize that if you're Jewish it's wrong the Essenes are wrong you don't just follow the king no matter what he does you follow the law of Moses so then you become a Pharisee then the Pharisees say well we're going to adopt this new Oral Torah thing so in other words we're going to take our tradition and make it superior to Scripture at that point you're going to say dad goes against the law of Moses - that's I'm not a Pharisee anymore so the Essenes were born and again the Essenes are going to interpret this from the writings of the patriarchs are you interpret the law of Moses his Pharisees will interpret the Torah by the way the oral torah says and the Essenes will interpret it by saying whatever the King tells you to do you do so the Liberals in that group so the Essenes then agreed with the Pharisees that forced conversion and forced observance of priestly code by non priests is wrong but they rejected this new doctrine of Tora so they believe that no one had the power to go against the written Torah and they written histories of the forefathers so that's just kind of a small synopsis of this I just thought it was fascinating kind of pulling all that together then you've got this prophecy about everything starting with Judah Maccabee fine the priesthood getting corrupt like all the other like the patriarchs prophesied many many generations back and the three priests would turn everything upside down and in the mention the time period so if we plug it into our chronology and our chronology is correct then we look back at that seven year period and find out that's the middle of a civil war and realize it was the civil war between the Sadducees and the Pharisees and the Essenes were born slightly later it's really amazing that you know that this these girls are actually in here so this is written like it's a prophecy you know I imagine some people would say well they just read it I wrote it after the fact well for our purposes it doesn't matter because it tells us when the the Civil War was what it was about three three people specifically started it in history records the three priests that started it so it's just really really amazing to look at that so we pull all this together and to know that the Essenes taught apparently what is correct in history that Jews were Jews we all looked forward to Messiah we followed the Torah the way it was supposed to be interpreted which incidentally if you look at it closely as the way that rabbi Paul of the New Testament disciple of Gamaliel in Jaleo taught it so but there was a civil war because of politics factions formed the factions got corrupt each one going off at the deep end with their own stuff and so and then the Essenes are waiting for the Messiah to come at 32 ad start a new priesthood put the Torah back the way it was supposed to be the Messiah comes the temple in the veil is and they hear about the disciples of the Messiah they go to listen to them and then the Essenes suddenly disappear because they all become a Christian it's an amazing story and you won't hear it anywhere because nobody believes this stops off but anyway that's our that's our teaching for today and we'll go back and look at some of these and get a little more involved in some other stuff in two weeks we'll be back
